Putting a lid on pot would speed up the water to boil as well....At 11 degrees, the lid would speed it up tremendously.

I second the idea of putting a lid on the pot. Saves a lot of lost heat

Why not use a kettle if you are just boiling water ? That’s what they were designed for ? Or put the lid on … comon dude 😂. Still good video

when we go for camping in India, we always make sure of plating mud on the bottom of cooking utensils from outside. so utensils can be cleaned easily as they don't turn black. and also soil captures heat fast so less wood you use and it gets cooked evenly and fast.

COmmon camping tips, place a piece of foil or put a lid on your pot to get it to boil faster in cold weather. Probably would have gotten a faster boil on in the cold weather. I love how well seasoned your cast iron skillet is. Beautiful job there. No sticking. Love you moose meat with that deep red coloring. Gorgeous stuff. That stove would come in handy when ya'll go fishing to cook up a fresh fish on the go so that you have some fuel to keep going. Great job!

That was great. I used an identical rocket stove today. Cooked bacon then added it to a full pot of 15 bean soup with minced garlic & onion, spices, and a can of tomatoes. VERY full 6 liter pot of soup. Got it to a rolling boil (putting a lid on REALLY helped speed the process). Then put it in the thermal cooker to finish the job. Making some solar oven bread now to go with. :)

Great little stove, with the exception that you have to take your pans on and off the heat to keep the food from burning. Your food looked so good, even with it slightly burned. Good job!!

Build one bigger out of bricks and it's free fuel on your canning days outside.
You also can take a round of fire wood drill a hole from top down about 3/4 and intersect it with a horizontal hole.

You can also use dry twigs and grass to get it stated. Really small stuff before you try getting larger pieces to light. They are an awesome thing for anyone to have on hand for emergencies even if they don't think they will use it as often as someone who camps or lives off grid. Enjoy yours.

Wow thanks for this! I got started with rocket stoves about 8-10 years ago and it looks like the "technology" of this design is far superior. Ours was difficult to arrange correctly for proper air flow (didn't have that lower chamber).

You had my mouth watering with the food cooking - especially the bread, and the caremelised onion - it looked soooo tasty! :)
I wish that stove had been around when my hubby and i used to go out and about, back in the day - it would have been amazing to cook our food on it, instead of having to start up camp fires - and would have used a lot less wood in the bargain! :)

Thank you for posting this! I just bought one of these stoves identical to this and I will be using it today for the 1st time and will be making a Teriyaki pork loin with teriyaki rice and I was definitely noticing the firebrick inside the bottom and was thinking I should be able to cook on our log table as well! It's 5:30AM and I'm salivating, just thinking about our upcoming meal! On a side note, I just also got ahold of a vintage, dual fuel Coleman 502 gas burner from the 60's. Mint condition and runs great on non-ethanol unleaded (as well as the prohibitively expensive Coleman white gas!) and that is what I will be using to fire up my vintage coffee percolator while I'm preparing our meal! Oh! and finally, those soft boiled eggs looked like they turned out magnificent! I'll be throwing in a couple of those for like you said, 5-6 minutes in 6 cups of water for 4 eggs as well!!! Enjoy your weekend! (final-final thing....can you post an updated video now that it's been 2 years to tell how your stove's held up?!) THANKS!

We have something similar, a little bigger. That we use on day trips, quick to cook up sausages and chops when the kids get hungry. We've never used wood, a handful of charcoal does the trick just fine. It's become a staple in my house because we have occasional power outages and it makes for quick meals. It's a great little contraption!

8638marc haha yes I meant outside the tent. For cooking and camping in general. I was thinking it is better than cooking over the fire on the ground. But not for backpacking. Some camp sites you have to really control your fire, and I was thinking that stove would work great.

Cool, wish they had a screen on the top so all the soot wasn't flying out. Then again it's a camping stove. It got so hot you had to cook off the stove, but it would have worked if you closed the air vent on the bottom. I like it! Have never heard of it before though. Great investment.

That stove looks pretty fancy, and the Germans can sure engineer stuff, but there are a bunch of very-basic designs, made from 4" steel tube, where the feed is "automatic." That is, you are dropping the fuel in at an angle, and it self-feeds as the stove consumes the fuel. That German thing seems like a pain. It's cool, but I wouldn't want to have to feed it constantly when gravity can do that for you. Hard-boiled eggs? Surely you have some moose burgers ready? Edit: Commented too early: Moose looks great!

I've been wondering for a long time when you'd incorporate some type of rocket stove (and possibly some type of "mass" to hold the heat overnight).
This table-top model might be good for when you go out ice-fishing or other camping, but for your house, you need something more "self-feeding". And given how much you try to optimize your lives, I'm surprised you haven't done more of this to reduce the amount of wasted wood needed to heat.
    Keep up the great work!
