just realised that the one big scrap engine with a face was Dudley, nice bit of character use, giving us an idea of what happened to him after the whole incident with him and Bear
he came to Sodor and had a very big hatred for diesels and tried to have Bear sent away by causing confusion and delay by any means necessary and blaming it all on Bear, in the end he got found out and sent away, this was in the time of Dieselization so he'd have most likely been scrapped at some point or another and ended up back at Sodors scrap yard, or at least his ghost did@@catthecommentbothunter6890
@@catthecommentbothunter6890 After getting sent back to his railroad (British Rail) he was sent for scrap and was sent to killdane scrapyards, he’s the same demon engine from demons.
@@evancross9873 In most fan stories that I've seen Bowler tends to meet the same fate as his number's basis, which is to be cut up at Crewe in 1984. Personally I like the idea of him getting a shot at redemption, though I'll admit I'm biased as I like his class and am generally a fan of redemption tales, provided they're well-written.
I love this story. The use of the pilot Gordon and Thomas models, Dudley and 1020 (nad maybe the Kildane experiment) makes it seem like if you disrespect the dead. The dead will disrespect you. I like how Dudley and the scrap engines confront Bowler and show who really has more dominance. The use of 1020 as a saviour is really befitting when he encouraged Oliver to keep going and not give up in ‘Spirit of Survival’. Really like the crossover of different characters in this. Great job Shunter!
Hmm...so Dudley is now the "head honcho" of the scrap engines, and 1020/Dane is the kind soul? Interesting choice in characters. I know that this story and Richard the New Engine series two separate storylines, but I'd like to think that this experience was what changed D261 into helping Richard find a new chance at life when Henry made that fateful bargain.
I think this is one of the best fan stories about D261! The use of the scrap engines to show that engines that we have sympathy for can become the villains themselves if it means seeking revenge on the character we are used to viewing as the bully who always gets what is coming to him. Naturally, a scrapped Dudley had to appear in this. The fandom really does love the idea of him returning as vengeful scrap engine.
This is very well made, using Dudley and 1020 / Dane is a very nice narrative considering how it shows dane's character growth of wanting to help engines after the events of hawin lake, as well as a result of what happened to dudley after that story. Very nice contrast and great execution. Props to whoever was involved in making this and I cant wait to see more stories like this :)
Now THAT was an amazing story, I love that not only did the scrap engines get a chance to be seen as a proper vengeful force, but also managing to show there can be a difference between the kinds of spirits you find here I loved this, and Bowler felt like the near perfect character for this story, the only other two I could see this working for are D199 or Diesel, but I think Bowler works better due to the blank slate his character is and how possible it is to mould him into the position he ended up in, amazing work on the story
Now I wanna see Dane be the guardian angel of these good guy diesels, using his own experience as a restless spirit to help them stay safe from Dudley, who I'm sure won't move on until reverse-dieselization is a thing.
Really loved this story, gives some nice depth to Bowler and was an interesting change-of-pace. Rather than changing his tune solely because of a scary experience, what changed him were the thoughtful actions of 1020. Now I wish poor 1020 could be saved, though of course it's too late now. Sweet how Bowler still wishes to see him again.
New working theory: Dudley was finally scrapped and his soul lay dormant till Diesel woke his soul up and Dudley remembered his hatred and pain. When Bowler came in, Dudley decided he could get payback and attempted to scrap him. On the other hand, 1020 found peace and saw what was happening in the scrapyard, and remembered the kindness he once had and wished to help those in need
Kinda funny when you think all the horrid diesels are given a fright to change whereas those who show compassion (dereks deathwish comes highly on that theory) are given the blessing not to be afraid of them.
I must say you perfektly captured the old Magic from the first few seasons of the series back when they made so good Halloween Episodes with the models. I am exited about what you will bring out in the hopefully near Future
I imagine that the majority of the scrap engines would attack a diesel but I’d a steam engine were to get lost and stuck in the sidings they would get them out of there or would be silently watching over them to make sure they do not suffer the same faith as them. Plus I think most of the engines that wanted bowler dead were young engine and those who believed they were still in their prime. Over all great story one again by the king of horror himself.
Well, after an encounter like that, I think it's safe to say that old Bowler is scarred for life! Excellent work Shunter! Your work never fails to impress us!
That beginning felt strangely familiar there. For a moment, I thought it was Class 40's perspective on being in the Smelters during the events of The Spectre's Warning/A Dark Night for Bert. It kinda looks like an alternate story of it. That scene with the scrap engines is very frightening Especially when a rusty Dudley (I thought it was the Killdane Experiment when I first saw it) was like the leader there. Nice to see a certain engine came to help Class 40 on his way in the end in a way. A very frightening story, but nice in the end. Well done here!
Keep it up ShunterProductions Great Story of Bowler You Made There The Part Where All The Scraped Engines Surrounded Bowler and Dudley Took Him to The Sidings Where They Cut up The Engines Was Scary And The Part Were 1020 Helped Bowler Escape and Took Him to The Fuel Pumps Was Kind of Him
Yeah but just one thing, behind Dudley, I can see the Killdane experiment making hissing and clanking noises and the prototypes of Thomas and Gordon, pilot Thomas and Gordon that is, but I didn’t think that Dane was a kind engine to save the diesel, it was like when he gave Oliver confidence to keep going to Sodor, not to mention a very kind soul of the spirit
I do understand the scrap engines. They were right with their statements, but the ghost of engines past was a s well. D261 had gone too far, but he indeed deserves a 2nd chance + yes. Engines get replaced. Time is the answer.🙂 (Hope it gets a pin. That's a statement for everyone watching it.)😉 Your Shunter Productions fan Lexie.😁
Something I wonder about is sodor’s scrap engines. All of em usually look like the same shapes of living charecters.. why did the railway have so many of the same kind?
if you think about it steam engines are kinda hypocrites. Before they came along horses pulled wagons. Throughout steams tractions life there were attempts to improve or replace them (oil burning instead of coal, using electric to preheat water making them literal kettles on wheels, full electric heck there was one engine that was powered by diesel whilst the boiler was heating up). They had over a century to become more efficient. Aside from most of them being extremely rude, some diesels such as derrek (I think that's his name the one who kept breaking down on the episode "double teething troubles") were just as prone to malfunction as steam engines maybe more so.
The scrap engine is dead tho. He’s meant to be the guardian angel to all engines. Also why the heck would they join the steam team being long dead?? Plus the concept of a main character team is irrelevant in ShunterProduction stories.
This is a ghost story with realism at its finest! I love the fact the scrapped steam engines include Dudley, The Killdane Experiment and the prototype Thomas and Gordon models. Makes me think that all of those stories are canon to this one! You never cease to spook us, dude. Truly intriguing to see two different scrap engines from two different writers end up in the same story...

To my surprise, there was no scrap Gary or Tyler (LSWR H15 and Highland Railway 'Castle' types). All of them got scrapped in real life

I do like how more and more people seem to be using the smelters yard as a pseudo silent hill for the engines
I haven't seen very many pieces that are of this high a quality. WELL Done.
