Midsize trucks don't have to be world beaters. They just need to be useful and reliable, done.
yes. im really interested in this truck because i honestly prefer cars. it seems to act more like a full size sedan on the road. but has the bed, and can tow a small trailer without issue.

True! I have family and friends that need big trucks (We live in Texas) I’m like for what? What are you hauling lol? You don’t even have a trailer hitch. My Tacoma can do 90% of what your big truck is doing. I was able to haul anything I need for my house anything I need for my lawn no problemo.

I love how he's scrutinizing the truck. He pointed out all the things wrong with it that most reviews don't.
Hence why I get my true opinions from tfl studios. All of the big boy media companies gloss or never mention anything really negative.
If only they scrutinize the Taco in the same way.

IMO, if you’re towing more than 6000 lbs on a regular basis, you should move up to a half ton, anyway.

Agree, actually they say 7000 is for the gladiator but when you see someone towing 7000 with a mid size truck (they really struggle) 7000 X 0.80 = 5600 is the real towing capacity for any vehicle you have to multiply by 0.80 to get the real capacity.

I like it's non turbo simplistic running gear. I don't drive far enough to care about fuel mileage.
Everything Andre said at the end that could be improved would drive the price up up and up. This truck is less expensive and not best in class in every department and that's exactly what Nissan was going for. I agree with Nissan on this.
I wish man, it starts at 40k in Canada, thats 2k more than the Tacoma and it doesn't have basic stuff like a telescoping wheel adjustment. I'll have to stick with my '12 frontier for now, that's way beyond my price range
The limited range and comparably bad fuel economy are the main reasons I'll pass on it. Reasonably priced Pro-4X is cool though.
couldn't agree more. Nissan's wheelhouse isn't producing class leaders, they are much more about value, horsepower, and lower prices than Toyota haha
I just bought one of these yesterday. I drove a Toyota Tacoma, then drove this. It drives better, is quieter, steers better and the transmission is way smoother. It’s plain Jane… but It’s awesome.
90% of truck owners never even tow anything so yeah.. it's definitely a win.
That's what I'm saying. Looks, comfort, that goes a long way. Fuel mileage and telescopic steering would be nice, but they don't do anything for your image. That color!

@@alh06 If you want to argue a towing point.... you shouldn't be looking into midsized trucks. Midsize are for daily and light work. Which 95% of people don't even do. You want a real towing truck get you a full size diesel.
“90-95% never go off road or tow anything”u guys pulling numbers from your asses ? All the guys I know carry a camper, pull trailers and go off road with their trucks. You guys must live near the stupid malls.
Considering Nissan was still selling frontiers that we a 17 year old design, I think they did enough to maintain their sales. Maybe they wont beat everyone else but I dont think that's the point.
If they weren't priced like a Tacoma that would make more sense, but now...
@@paultruesdale7680 i agree but I dont think they are going to be blown away in sales since everyone is making a mid-size trucks now. If they had done this 5 years ago they would be setting pretty by now. Nissan has always made good trucks so I hope this one doesn't disappoint.
I still really like the old one despite the old interior. Given a killer price on an old used one, vs this new one would have me thinking. Course, I'll be looking at them in 3 or 4 years, so definitely this new one would make more sense.
That 4l V6 they put in it for 20 years was essentially bullet proof which is why people bought them and the new 3.8l V6 is even better.
Don't forget that the new tundra with a 6.5 ft bed had a payload of barely over 1200 lbs. And honestly, no midsized truck should be towing over 7k

Nissan removed the tow hitch when they sent it to TFL. Apparently they watch the channel!

I bought the Pro-4X the day it came off the truck as an upgrade from the 2019 SV. There is no comparison. I will be driving this truck for the next 15 years.

I mean the way I look at it, it’s nothing insane or mind blowing but looks and seems like a great mid size truck.

I ( still ) own a 1996 Pathfinder XE that I bought BRAND NEW in April, 1996...
187,000 miles. Does not burn oil, still easily passes SMOG....
Looks pretty much showroom new...
1996 was before Renault took over, they were still good at that time. now Nissan make scrap vehicles and is the worst Japanese auto maker.

People were paying $40k for Tacoma TRD Off roads back in 2016. You can get one of these now for little over 40k.
@@Ntmoffithe previous gen pro4x started at $37,890… this gen pro4x starts at $39,300… I’d much rather pay the little more for this much nicer truck. Everything’s about perspective, you can’t find a mid spec full size for anything under 50-55k
I just bought a 2004 Nissan Xterra I found on Craigslist for $4,500. 4wd, just over 120k miles. Gave it a tune-up, changed the fluids, washed it, everything works,runs great! No need to be wasting $50k for a brand new truck.

From everything I’ve seen about this truck I say yes it was totally worth the wait for this truck I can’t wait to see how the hydraulic body mounts affect the chassis flex of this truck off road

Locker button is a bit low, but how often will the average owner need to engage it?
Not very often if at all. For a rarely used function , putting the locker button out of the way isnt such a bad thing.
Tow button is in a proper location considering this feature could be used much more often.
Picked up my Pro 4x yesterday. It’s really a sweet truck!!!!
Bought a SV 4X4 instead. Didn't need fancy shocks, skid plate and vanity graphics. Does the same job. Saved thousands.

Yep I am biased. After working on Toyotas at the dealer level since 1990, and a Tacoma owner, I spent 2005-2010 at a Honda Nissan dealership. Went back to a Toyota dealership until 2017.
That said, the latest Frontier looks great. But my experience as a flat rate Technician working on Nissan trucks for 5 years, I learned at that time, that I would push my Tacoma, with only 3 wheels, axle deep in mud before I would own a Nissan truck. This was based on what went wrong, and how Nissan corporate would pay for warranty work, and how well that they stood behind the product at THAT time. With what I have to deal with now, being a shop manager, working on these trucks today, honestly my opinion has not changed. We presently have 2 Titan diesels waiting for turbos, and Frontiers waiting on rear differentials. For now, I will keep my Toyota's
I have owned two nissan frontiers first a 06' crew cab Nismo 4x4 that i sold with 240K and now a 2013 pro4x with 100k. Although these trucks are reliable and easy to work on. i have to agree with you. My wifes toyota highlander has required absolutely zero weekend time/time off to repair. I just do regular maintenance and put gas in it and it just goes, never breaks down or throws me for a saturday at autozone. My next truck will be a tacoma.
Truck looks great. I’d love to have one as a daily but I need a full sized pick up to do full sized truck stuff with. Plus with everything thats going on in the vehicle market place, I guess I’ll stick with my 2014 Silverado. Its not the latest, fanciest truck but it is paid for .....
The big pro for me is the seats: far more comfortable than all others in the class, which is a big deal on long trips. The truck should be reliable, if not abused. I can live with the faults. Trucks in this category are way too small to tow 6k# in the real world: 3K# is my comfort level for this class. This leaves payload room for a cap and light load. 4x4 is great for the tasks I shall have: the truck is not in the rock crawler class, and I would not try it. I think Nissan has a winner.
What seats do u have im considering pro x seats but sv seats and leather seats look really good
I would rather have a great truck and either upgrade the seats or put in pricy aftermarket seats.

My 2010 LE 4x4 crew cab has the Rockford Fosgate sound system with the subwoofer under the rear seat like that Fender set up. My dog didn't like it, but my daughters always got a kick out of feeling the seat thump when I cranked the tunes. My younger daughter was 9 when I bought that truck. She fell in love with it and told me then that when she was old enough to drive, I would have to buy another car for me, so she could drive the Frontier. She is using it as her daily now, and it is getting close to 150K miles on the odometer. Something tells me the new Frontier is going to have similar reliability and avid fans.

That engine sounds faster than it is! Actually, I think they did a good update. Very competitive package for someone who wants a traditional pickup truck. I would agree with Nathan, it should have a tow hitch as standard. And an excellent engine without resorting to a turbocharger. I would consider it, though I am a Ford guy.
Need to put something under the bumper to simulate a hitch off road, even if it’s just a piece of paper that hangs down the same amount as the hitch would. Otherwise the departure angle isn’t accurate.
I totally get if someone wants more modern or luxury features, but this has highly functional buttons and hard plastics that are easy to clean, solid as hell. The Pro4X has just enough features for me. Having full LED headlamps and tail lamps is nice too. No need to consider aftermarket options
I just bought this truck with the orange trim interior and I love this truck. Extremely happy with it.
I also am super very with it. It rides super smooth and quiet, yet very capable. I have the Pro X in tactical green w a tow hitch and it is perfect for me and our family. Congrats & enjoy!!
I saw one of these new Frontiers, a dark gray one, the other day. It was parked in a parking lot and I saw it as I drove by. As I was driving by, I thought it was a freshened ‘22 Tacoma. Looked JUST like a Tacoma!
So...since the fenders have that square bump out, are we expecting a new Xterra? Those fenders sure look like we could see a new X built off this platform. Thoughts?

Nissan Frontier could ALWAYS beat the TACOMA in cab comfort, for me at least.

Non telescoping steering column is a head-scratcher?? Perhaps, Nissan is taking a page out of Ford's book. Often times, Ford will introduce an all new vehicle...with carry over parts (engine, transmission,etc) from the previous generation. Over the next couple of years, it will update those carry over items and jack up the price doing it.
I got to hope it's just because it's pee-production........That's a deal breaker with all the features new vehicles have.

I had the 2011 Frontier. Not a bad truck. Towed my 16' boat and 21' Tri-hull just fine for a 4.0 V6. Pick up was good. Never let me down during hunting seasons from snow or mud. Hate that it's rigid on turns all dated looks and instruments. So....I guess I would give it a thumbs up all in all, but compared to my 2019 Tacoma, I'd say...My Taco wins by a mile in many aspects, but the Frontier beats it in terms of get up and go.
Brilliant Job of taking Next to nothing to really work with" pre model , no tow etc etc".. an making it focused an interesting, a case of "Less is More".. Well done guys..

I owned an 06 Frontier crew cab SE for 15 years. Loved the truck, just bought a 2020 F150 XLT. I miss much of the convenience of a small truck but my Ford with 375 hp gets better gas mileage than my old Nissan. I waited forever for the new Frontier and turns out they took too long.
I just bought one. I traded in my 2021 Tacoma SR5 because I hated that truck due to the gear hunting and power output. The 3.5 V6 was under powered and had a ridiculous lag every time I tried to gain some momentum. This Nissan is a much better truck price for price and feature for feature.
It's the little things that would really bother me over time. Such as the placement of the rear locker switch. Buttons and selectors should be easy to see and reach. The fuel economy isn't good at all for a mid size truck especially when a half ton full size truck can get as good if not better mileage if configured accordingly. But when the price difference is $10,000 less for this truck vs a full size truck, then it becomes a value thing.

As a previous owner of a 2016 pro4x Frontier, I like the new one. Hopefully the engine/trans combo proves just as reliable as the 4.0 was. The one thing I'll say about this particular model, the green looks great but the red in the badges doesn't really match well with it. The red would look good on some other colors though.
Whoa just got to the end... they didn't make the turning radius better? the previous gen turned worse than a cruise ship.
The Turn radius could end up a deal breaker for me. My 2009 frontier 3 times dented it due to crappy rear visibility and terrible turn radius while parking. I bet an F150 could out turn it. The quiet road noise and all the other new stuff looks great. They need a trim between SV and the Pro4x for adults with $ who want leather and good stereo. the decals are so juvenile. Didn’t buy the 4x in 2009 due to the roof racks with lettering,also juvenile. Did not want to be a billboard. Cross shopping this against Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz which has sigh…ventilated seats.

@@zarbon700 owned 3 frontiers for my company since 2005 all made it to 300k before I sold them with no issues.
@@Supernova778 The 2005 to 2020 generation was designed by Nissan before Renault started having more control over the brand. Prior to this, Nissan built very reliable vehicles. 2005 to 2020 Frontier is a 15 year old Japanese engineered vehicle that had very little changes over the many years, so it will be reliable. That's why I'm not surprised the ones you owned were reliable.
The 2022 Frontier was engineered during the Renault controlling era, so it won't be as well engineered as the previous generation you owned.

I'm the infamous Tacoma fan boy and I love this truck.
I think that it looks better than the Tacoma on the outside (especially that front end). This coming from a diehard Toyota guy.
But, I still like the Tacoma's interior better. It looks like Nissan skimped on the materials that they used inside; hard/cheaper plastics on the interior, and the dull grey dash. I still need to see one in person, though. Maybe my opinion will change.
Also, this doesn't seem to have Crawl Control like the Toyota TRD PRO. What gives, Nissan?
Having said that, Nissan finally updated the Frontier, which is cool to see, and waaaay overdue at this point.
I’ve had both and it’s not close, frontier to me is best inside and outside!
Due to various shortages, (steel and manpower), manufacturers across the board have severe backorder problems. However, the old body style hitch (999T5-BY500) will bolt up.

Great review. I have 1 more payment on my 2016 Frontier SV Crewcab and would love having no truck payment for years to come, but this new Frontier is very tempting. The mini subwoofer under the bench is awesome, I don't mind giving up that storage space. I love the look, they improved it cosmetically but didn't over do it. I loved the old Frontier because it looked traditional and with this new Frontier its traditional but with flair. My biggest complaint on the old Frontiers was the screen size, so glad they finally improved that feature. Its got the looks, got the power, and the practical features.
I love the truck, but $60,000 for a pro 4x in Canada doesn't work for anyone. They said the starting price would be $29,000. Instead it's $39,000 for a base model. That's not acceptable.
Finally subscribed, the only reviewers I feel like actually know what they are talking about.
16:52 Agree with the driver, I hate having to contort myself just to get in or out of a truck. So many vehicles focus on aerodynamic drag and slant the windshield far to back. This caused me to bump my head getting in or out. I like a wide birth driver side.

My titan Pro4x has the same hard plastic on the doors, but the armrests are really nice and soft. I don't mind the hard plastic because I know i can wash it down easily....like he said.

Is that it’s durable. The softer materials that are common to a lot of German cars tends to wear faster.

Theoretically, couldn't you get a Curt or Draw-Tite hitch for the previous generation Frontier and bolt it on if the frame is unchanged?

Replaced my 2017 Colorado with 2023 Frontier. I really like the Frontier. Only thing I miss from the Chevy is the rear bumper made it easy to get in and out of the bed of truck. Frontier feels more solid and drives better than the Chevy did.
A new Tacoma TRD off road is 10k less. Im pretty sure I know what one i would choose. lol, I really want to like the frontier , but I cant. Especially at 50k....
Agreed. I had a 19 Colorado and traded for 21 Ranger. Had little cosmetic issues from Chevy and the Ranger has been in for air bag sensor issues and just broke down 250 miles away from home with silly “remote start fuse” problems! Twice in for repairs less than 4K miles. Ford customer service the worse I ever experienced. The Nissan just too expensive like sone have said Ram needs to step up.
I ordered a hitch online for my 22 frontier. Very reasonable an super easy to install. I installed it myself
I really like it. I test drove a new Tacoma and didn't care for it. I plan on cross shopping the frontier and the tundra next year.
You should consider the Titan. Cheaper than a Tundra.

Well guys I have owned several Frontiers and so far this has been the best one yet. I love the design of the 2022 truck.

I’m a Tacoma guy myself but I have huge respect for Nissan keeping a naturally aspirated v6. I guarantee that the engine will outlast any turbo I4
Can’t wait for you guys to take it off road. I’m not sold on it just yet! Gonna really miss the IKE for this one especially with the class leading hp.
I got the SV in gun metallic just love it. The six foot bed is mandatory the 5ft is useless in any truck. I sacrificed a few options over the Pro 4 locking differential, phone charger pad, Blistein shocks. I use my atv mostly during hunting and occasionally tow a 3700 lb Feather Lite 19 ft Jayco. Great all round truck and mileage too 10.2L/100Km if I keep it under 110 kms/hr
I bought one and traded in my 2019 RAM 1500 and bought a pro4x package with all the bells. Best midsized truck in my opinion! Its Tacoma killer!

@@UTVPOWERSPORTS One Toyota flaw is laziness 😂. They only update trucks when they feel sales are in danger. Now, that the ranger, updated frontier, much more competitive Colorado look for the next Tacoma to have higher payload, possibly hybrid truck and more.

I have my 2002 Nissan frontier 4 doors V6, 16 inc wheels 122xxx miles and still 💪 strong as hell
Front end looks a lot like my 21 Titan PRO4X! I had two Frontier's great trucks.
I own a '19 Frontier and part of the reason I bought it is that I have a decade of junkyard trucks to get parts off of, it fits were I want to go, and it sit's the lowest to the ground in class and you can still touch the bottom of the bed from the side rail.
Thanks for the video guys, I think I like the frontier better than the Ranger and the Tacoma, I’m not a midium size truck guy but if I had to buy one I’d probably look at either this new Frontier or the Colorado with the Diesel engine.

I really like the the boxy design on the new frontier they knocked it out of the park very well done . So I noticed on the new tundra as well as this one that the grill is far from the radiator seems like a waste of space adding to the length of the truck why are they doing that ? Is it for pedestrian safety ?

I don't have a problem with the turn radius on my 2017, it can do a 180 from the turn lane across 2 the opposing 2 lanes well enough. Parking it isn't an issue either.
Pro-4x? I have to pull off the shoulder to bust a U in my '18

I think it's a pretty nice truck, towing and payload capacities are really just guidelines, I mean if you hook up a 10,000 LB trailer to an F-150 then drive 90 mph in 110° heat you're going to smoke that truck! I don't care what the towing capacity says! At the same time if you hook up a 7,000 LBtrailer to that Frontier then drive at 45-50 MPH on a nice 65° spring day? You're not going to have any problems.
Nobody talking about the cup holders. 2nd gen X/Fronty/Pathy cupholders were the best.
If I was in the market for a new midsize Pickup,I'd probably lean pretty heavy toward the new Frontier.
Its either Fronter or Ranger at this point. Toyotas too expensive and underpowered, Chevy & GMC are too unreliable. Then again Nissan has had a history of being unreliable too and the new Ford EcoBoost has a lawsuit that I've heard about hanging over it.
@@Pizza626 In the midsize I don't find the Ranger as pleasing to the eye for some reason. Now in the halfton class the F150 inverter sounds very interesting to me. I probably don't need it,but it sure sounds nice.Of course if I had that though I'd start dreaming of a travel trailer.

Of course, I would be adding a few things like heavy duty bumpers + bushbars + winch front and back AND a higher lift and some pretty big NITTO Grappler tires to it and an in-bed rollbar with LED lightbar and an extra in-bed gas tank to it to make it better fit my 4x4 waaaaaay offroad boondocking/overlander life-style.
I definitely like the new front hood and grill design. If the finance options are good with better interest rates and lower monthly payments, I could easily see myself getting one of these just to be different than everyone else!
The Toyota Tacoma has been upping their prices to such a level, that I am getting onion-eyes from their dealer lot sticker prices. I've been SERIOUSLY looking at a Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition OR this 2022 Frontier (with some mods!) as a 2nd backwoods lifestyle truck until my reservation for a Ford F150 Lightning used as a daily driver goes through next year!
In my books, for now it is a TIE between the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition versus 2022 Nissan Frontier as Best-4x4-Offroad-Bang-For-The-Bucks trucks of ANY TYPE be they medium-size, full-size or heavy duty! Can the Ford Ranger haul more in true comfort and can the Toyota Tacoma crawl rocks better? YES they can! .....BUT..... these two trucks give you TRUE VALUE !!! -- as in you spend less money to get nearly the same abilities! That saved money buys you a lot of gas and lot of extra food and gear to go camping/fishing more often which is the KEY metric --- How much extra free time and extra memories do you get for your saved money?

@@dirtrider88 Automakers STRESS TEST their truck frames at 3x up 5x the stated bed and payload weights. Compressive, Tensile, Torsion, Flexion and Shear tests on all metal parts is part and parcel of a truck frame and truck bed development program.
With proper upgraded springs, shocks, wheels, tires and bed-mount bolts and mounting pucks plus some extra T and L brackets welded to the frame, I can put 1200 lbs into the bed and 1000 lbs (250 lbs per person) into the cab with NO PROBLEM!
It's less than $5000 worth of tubing and hardware since I can weld the bumpers, bushbars, winch mounts, roll-bars myself in less than two days using 6061 Series or 8000 series Aluminum plate and 3 inch diameter tubing!
I only need to order the winches and light bars and wheels/tires --- Everything else I build myself.
If I can design and model it in my CAD/CAM/FEA program, I can build it and weld it together!
Again, I like the 2022 Nissan Frontier as it has potential to save you some big bucks per month if you get 72 and 84 month financing terms.
I still like the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition BETTER which is basically a Chevy-built Ranger Raptor BUT for those of you who have limited credit and/or want NEW and don't mind 72 month financing, you are getting a BARGIAN of a well-thought-out Daily Driver + 4x4 Offroad + Boondocking + Overlander truck when you get the 4xPro versions!
All the Toyota FanBois can keep the TRD Pro with its Eye-watering prices! The Frontier ticks 97% of the boxes of the TRD-pro at a HECK OF A LOT CHEAPER PRICE!
That leaves you more money for gas and gear for your 3 day weekends and 2-or-3 week boondocking trips to the backwoods fishing holes and campsites!
What's not to like about that?

The science is there! I can PROVE the safety of my modifications, so it not an issue on my part.
Unlike others, I actually TEST and SIMULATE my mods on an FEA (Finite Element Analysis) system to see if they are SAFE to use and apply on a real world vehicle!
I work with aerospace systems that are faaaaaaaar more safety critical than a ground vehicle mod, so I think I will adhere to what the engineers say can and cannot be done!
AND, once the insurance company signs off on my mods (ICBC is pretty picky here in Canada!) I am legally covered!

I’m not sure how you are figuring value, but the tested truck is basically Nissan’s version of a Tacoma TRD Off-Road, similarly equipped and similarly priced. They even look the same. But they’re not the same. The Nissan won’t have the Toyota’s reliability, durability, aftermarket support, or resale value. Again, not sure how you see the Nissan as the value pick in this class.
I was looking forward to this truck but I just love my 2019 Frontier Pro4X! Simple truck and a whole lot less things to go wrong as far as electronics go. I wanted a simple truck to take off road and not worry too much about and for the price, you can't beat it! For less money than a brand new Tacoma Trd Pro, I was able to get a brand new Frontier Pro4X, the titan swap lift, winch and bumper, lunch box style front locker and this truck as yet to let me down. At 44k, I'll stay with my 2019!

Anyone can pick something and complain, but overall this is a good truck. Want to see the offroad challenge of this truck soon.
You can find stuff to complain about on any truck, all that matters is whether it fits your wants and needs

does anyone understand how much more you cant get with 44k when you move up to a half ton without sacrificing much of anything other than the FEW benefits of its smaller size? even gas mileage isnt far off.

The door sills being hard. He said people will say it will be easier to clean. But, I drive my vehicle everyday, I clean it occasionally. I'll take small comforts used everyday over small conveniences used rarely every time.
All Pro-4xs for sale in the central US that I've seen are priced well above $40k, usually $45-47k. I understand current car sales and chips issues, but a 4x4 mid size truck should be in the upper $20s to low $30s. For the current pricing that Nissan has set, the interior is still relatively cheap looking and feeling, it's 2021 and they didn't bother with a telescoping steering wheel, and the midsize truck gets bad fuel economy. It simply didn't come through for all the hype on it. Will be interesting to see if ford makes good updates to the ranger this year.

The 4x4 SV models I've seen listed are typically priced $38-42k, depending on what package is included.

They can't make any money selling a truck that's just been updated and upgraded at the price of a 2000's bare bones 4x4 truck. And absolutely nothing is budget friendly. I blame everyone that insists we need nice stuff year after year. What was so horrible about all the vehicles five to ten years ago?
Just bought this 2022 frontier in the ProX version with lava cloth seats in green yesterday. Great truck no regrets.
