My 2022 Nissan owners manual says that the frontier pro 4X is rated at 6270 lb towing, so technically you were overloaded on the frontier. It did a phenomenal job!
One of our parts guys at the Chevy dealership I work at bought a Pro-4X Titan after the transmission in his Silverado blew, the Titan is definitely an underrated truck
The torture test I used to see for the titans really caught my attention. They would purposely drive it at an angle and even directly into a curb. You would see the truck bounce and jolt but still drive away.I’m sure folks figured we can make a vehicle extremely strong but the squishies inside are the limit.I have a friend who always raves about Rams safety ratings which for me if your not an idiot and don’t abuse your things everything should last. I’ve heard of rams steering being car like which I think should be really popular with all the old ladies. . . . Hahah no but I imagine it is easier and smoother but a little more delicate. The truck also doesn’t have the auto start stop function which I like.
Nissan deserves a lot of credit for persevering in the full-size truck market. Their truck is on a par of features and performance with Ford, GM, and Ram. I love the 5.6L V8. 400 HP, 413 lb*ft of torque makes it competitive with any V8 out there. It's too bad that the 5.0L V8 Cummins diesel didn't catch on.
The V8 Cummins was not a good motor. Many issues which you can discover on the forums. Nissan and Cummins support is dying fast. For the engine weight, it was under-powered and a fuel guzzler. The I6 6.7L beats it in all categories including fuel efficiency.
@@freedomisntfree_44 i would take titan over F150 in any configuration. I was financially able to choose which truck to get and Titan XD was on top of my list.
I understand this is about the Frontier but y’all continue to short change the Titan. Test it with the same 8100lbs you have been testing all the other half tons with.
I've had my 2022 pro 4x in tactical green for just over two months now. It's been dead reliable and Nissan seems to have amazing build quality. I am stepping up from a 2018 civic hatch so I was obviously expecting an increase in my spending on gas, but I've gotta say the Frontier has impressed me with its fuel economy. The best I've had it, while driving is 8.4 L/100km, and after a trip is 9.0 L/100km. I have also been able to get a projected fuel range of up to 760km from a tank. All in all very impressed and can't wait for the many years ahead with my Frontier!
@Glitch rush just keeping positive chief. We are all aware of the issues that have plagued some of the other new vehicles that have been released lately. 👍
if U could, keep me/us informed, looking for my next new midsize this year to update from my 98 Dodge Dakota 5.2l since a new Dakota seems to be dead issue
I honestly saw the new age titan as being the second best truck after the tundra and with the tundra loosing the V8 I can now say the Titan is my favorite truck now with ford being 3rd or 4th
325,000 miles on my Titan and still runs perfectly. I will look to the Frontier as my next truck. Nissan makes one of the best motors you can buy. You might get a nicer and maybe little more roomier interior out of Canyon or Colorado but this Frontier will out last any domestic truck by decades!!
I just bought a 2022 frontier, had a Tacoma for 6 years. I like the frontier better. It in my opinion has a better engine and transmission .I also like the feel and the way the frontier drives.great truck as far as I'm concerned. Would highly recommend.
2020 Frontier Pro4x awesome old school look, with the new 3.8L v6, 9 speed sweet tranny, 5' bed, body graphics, roof rack, bilstein susp, leather seats, oh man an INSTANT classic when I got it. There are a few others out there but this one is mine! The midsize truck category has many fine entries in the field, and Nissan with the Frontier is a reliable, good looking, fun running, value proposition. Body on frame, a tough cookie, and a kick ass ride. Whats not to like?
That is pretty impressive for the Frontier. Of course probably would not want to do this daily but if there’s a need once in a while, that’s pretty darn good.
I paid 49k for my 21 pro4x Titan and it’s dealer price was only 52990 so prior to Covid this was the cheapest set of trucks to buy on the market but nicest interior outside of a ram or updated ford
First of I like all your test videos, real world testing, not just some dude in shorts driving around the block and giving it a doug score. I bought the Frontier SV model with the convenience/tow package and wonder why Nissan didn’t include a brake controller either. I will have to buy a Prodigy brake controller since I plan on pulling a 3500 lb camper with it. I previously owned a ‘09 Frontier since new and have no doubt I will keep my ‘22 for 10 years or more as well. I like the comfortable seats, the handling and ride and the heated seats and steering wheel. The thing I don’t like is Nissan deleted the cargo channels on the bottom of the bed, I used them all the time to strap down lumber to. No other manufacturer had these as far as I know. Also the control switches on the lower left side are too far down to see, if Nissan raised the display panel about 2 inches they could relocate the switches below the panel. It would be an even better truck!
I like it. Frontier looks like a stout little truck. With that, I've got to wonder if the suspension isn't a little stiff for off-roading. A little more flexible suspension would help off-road maneuvering but may not be as compliant with a heavy trailer. I don't think you buy a midsize though to pull 6000# all the time, so why not set-up the suspension for a little more movement.
Because when you aren't towing you have your dirt bike or other cargo I'm the back. Real pickup owners have to truck for a reason, to carry something back there!
The suspension is stiff on the older ones, and not even the Pro-4X versions. I had an SV and thought both the suspension and the steering were a little too stiff. But that said, you get used to it and then don’t give it much thought. My 2014 was such a beast it went anywhere and everywhere in just rear wheel drive. That was the most impressive feature to me. Had 4WD that was literally never needed, and I’m talking about miles and miles of driving in 8” snow (43 miles one way to get to work) on roads nobody else had driven. Also off road in sloppy mud and sand. Used rear drive only, and on stock tires, it went everywhere. It was just an unbelievable performing truck.
I can understand docking points for the safety chain hook being so hard to get to. I can also understand docking for not having a brake controller. But I don't agree with docking cause it didn't grow. It's supposed to be midsize, not full sized.
If you had to choose ANY model of Nissan Titan OR Frontier, in any high-altitude location such as Colorado, Montana, Alberta, British Columbia, Alaska, Yukon or super-cold winter area such Wisconsin, Minnesota, Vermont, Michigan, Upstate New York, then a used Titan XD or the Latest 2022 Titan SHOULD be your choice. If you are coastal California, Washington state, Oregon, Vancouver, BC, or in a summer hot New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Florida then the Nissan Frontier is the better choice due to the smaller size and better newer engine technology saving you fuel/maintenance costs. ALWAYS buy a new Nissan truck on extended financing because you tend to get enough deals on them compared to Ford, GMC, Chevy or Toyota that the money you save paying out monthly on extended 72 month financing still leaves you enough left over monthly that fuel and weekend trips are far more affordable than the other trucks. It basically means you get MORE out of your truck on the weekends and daily driving meaning more PERSONAL FUN TIME out of the Nissan trucks than the others because you SAVE more money per month which can be put towards your weekend fun camping/fishing/4x4 time. When you compare trucks between the major manufacturers, you MUST categorize yourself into a specific financial band BALANCING the looks, fuel costs, maintenance costs, resale value, hauling/towing ability and 4x4/off-road capability versus your monthly payments or outright cash outlay. If you WANT a mainstream U.S. truck, then any of the three North American majors will do for mid-size, full size or heavy duty trucks. They are ALL powerful, tow and haul a lot and financing is not outrageous. If you WANT high resale value, a Toyota Tundra/Tacoma is hard to beat but damn expensive on a monthly payments basis. If you are younger and just started in your trades career and need a weekend warrior truck AND a daily tool/gear hauler at a good affordable monthly payment, a Nissan Frontier looks good and so does a Chevy Colorado ZR2! If you want PURE high-end interior comfort AND good hauling/towing ability then the RAM 1500 Limited is Numero Uno right now! It's expensive but it sure has near-Mercedes Benz level of interior luxury and technological creature comforts. For the BIG toy-hauler and fifth wheel trailer haulers, then the Ford F-450 Dually is the hands-down the winner on the longevity/maintenance-free count due to its commercial-class axles and frame rail construction. The best all-round full size hauler would be a Ford F150 Powerboost which does everything good but not totally spectacularly class leading. The price is right when you get a mid-optioned FX4 or Tremor version around $55,000 USD or under. It best balances interior comfort, hauling ability and off-road use in one truck at a decent price. That 7200 Watt on-board generator also DOES make a BIG difference for your worksite and campsite tools/electronics charging and powering. If you need a 7 passenger family hauler, I actually suggest a Stellantis/Chrysler Grand Voyager well-optioned mini-van which has LUXURY AND person-carrying capacity that is easy to get in and out of AND can take your family to the local parks and beaches in sheer comfort! V
Tacoma requires 5000rpms on the ike gauntlet and everyone complains and calls it weak (mr truck actually had to back off several times on the throttle to prevent going over speed) but the frontiers running 6000 rpm here foot to the floor and ya’ll are like “what a stout little truck.” not to mention that Titan needed 4000+ rpm too. ya’ll are wack. 95% of you should be driving a honda ridgeline
I know it'd be a lot if extra work but I'd love to see an extra run up and down the mountain the way most of us watching would really drive. Mainly by shifting gears manually up and down. It'd slow what the truck is truly capable of rather than what it's programmed to do. Most viewers here are smart enough to know the difference and it wouldn't confuse us. If anything it'd help us by showing proper towing tips rather than just hoping the manufacturer did it right. Add it in to the Super Ike maybe if not all test.
Home run with this truck. I really think this is the mid size leader at the moment. Not fancy, but a great option for the market. The powertrain is the gem.
I have had 3 Nissan trucks and all were completely reliable. Over 200k miles on each and never had a trip top the shop.I don't really understand why they get so much hate especially from people who have never owned one. I have driven tacomas and they are really not great trucks power ride and uncomfortable seating position.
I have a 2019 Frontier Pro4x and love it! Solid, reliable truck that actually drives like a truck! It’s a gas hog but it’s a truck, if I wanted gas mileage I’d have bought a Prius. Great 4 wheel drive capability, won’t get stuck, lol. Just the best truck on the market for my needs. Wouldn’t trade her for anything!
great video Andre/Mr.Truck agreed the gauge cluster should tell you what gear your in at any time and the optional gauges could use numerals , that would not be a deal breaker for me, Andre you might find with that OBD tool TFL has you can get the gear indicator to show up possibly, lots of the European cars do it by scrolling to the menus to find it and option indicate it, i know this is a fleet vehicle from Nissan, awesome video and Titan5.6 V8 has the best engine note 🔥
Ur telling me you wouldn’t buy a vehicle because some of the gauges didn’t have numbers. If that’s true you haven’t bought a new car in the last 20 years
Unless that's very soon, I think it will be a used Titan, as Nissan has already discontinued the NV vans (which share the chassis with the Titan XD) and it appears that Nissan is discontinuing the Titan and Titan XD.
Great video as always! I think an interesting matchup would be a brand new manual Tacoma vs a New Manual gladiator!!! I’m sure we would all love to see how manuals handle the Ike!! Keep up the great work TFL!
I agree. The new frontier looks great and the 3.8 V6 with a 9 spd puts up good numbers. But like you said, the new ranger, with a 10 spd and the 2.7 Ecoboost V6 should be a monster. Add to that raptor and tremor trims, that should be a real awesome rig.
The Frontier does not perform as well as the ranger as it sits right now. The 2.3 would not have been pinned right out and spinning at 6000rpm going up that hill. Sorry to say but the Nissan will be left in the dust shortly by the new Ford, Chevy, and probably even Toyota (eventually) offerings.
@@rubicondickweed I like N/A engines. Simple, effective. I would never, ever be towing 6k lbs up a hill at elevation. So the fact that it did it while singing at 6k without the trans going nuts is impressive enough
I'm curious what the difference is between the old truck with new motor compared to the new one.... and of course see it against the other Japanese truck the Asian taco.... I think the Nissan would be much better
Speaking of Nissans . . . are there any rumors or information to suggest Nissan will ever bring back the Xterra? Make it! And make it a small pickup version to compete with the Ford Maverick (and no-frills affordable).
With the gas engine it would just be slower because it's heavier - in these tests they don't really test anything other that grade climbing power and engine braking. With the diesel might be interesting, but the Titan is apparently being discontinued so that's pointless now.
You guys know that a brake controller can be installed (not just the wireless thing you guys use for easy testing), even though it's not included from the factory, right? Most people put a controller in themselves. Yes, mark it down for not having a built-in brake controller available, but don't suggest that it isn't suitable because a controller is needed.
Andre you messed up when you said Nissan went a little higher displacement with the 3.8…..ummm no….they actually went down on displacement….they went from a 4.0 to a 3.8….so yeah man….
Why don't you guys have the same constant when you're doing your testing ... Use the same trailer with the same amont of weight For all your midsize trucks.... And that's just one example
bitching about the receiver being recessed on a specific off-road model truck? it really helps with departure angle. i've never owned a truck where the safety chain hookup points didn't get bent upward from hitting the ground. for me, having them tucked under a bit is a very welcome feature.
Why do you run down hills ind drive and not use your gears? Drop it in a lower gear and let it hold? You'd have way less brake applications... just my opinion.
Both of these trucks are far better that any of the turbo charged offerings and they don't do that ridiculous AFM or DFM that GM is obsessed with. The GM engines have a well deserved reputation for destroying itself with the bullshit of shutting down cylinders.
I would deduct points for not having a little more legroom in the back seat and like you mentioned I'd love to see the numbers as far as temperature pressure and what not on the gauges.
Absolutely not a problem. Just need to get a trailer brake installed and some mirror extensions. Both are luckily inexpensive. The Frontier is pre-wired from the manufacturer
When they tested both, the 3.1 L gas Colorado was faster up Ike than the Duramax Colorado... which isn't surprising, given how much more power the gas engine has.
@@ecyfoto Presumably the underpowered diesel consumed less fuel. Performance and fuel economy are both valid aspects of what makes the "best towing" vehicle.
Excellent review fellas!! It’s always great with Andrey and Mr Truck! Very nice to see that Mr Truck is handling the electronics leaving Andrey to drive undistracted. Thank you fellas. The Titan maybe should have done better as it was not maxed out. It is, to me, the best sounding modern V8 truck! I have a full sized F150, brand new 2021 SuperCab Lariat with FX4 etc and has the Pro Power Onboard (a bit of a game changer). I have purchased an approximate 1400 lb wet weight truck camper and that’s going to be my summer and even winter RV. I went wayyyy downsize for my daily driver though!! I have a new Maverick XLT with almost every option except the tonneau cover option. I’m impressed by how much I use it as a truck instead of just daily driver, it tows right up to the 4000 lb limit very well! The Frontier was a brief consideration, but once I sat in it, I was not very impressed, especially since it is second in the highest pricing feature for feature only to the Gladiator, which are very expensive. In the end, I went for a better deal with my buddy and his Ford dealership. I’m lucky there. I’m sure not surprised by the results on the Titan doing the Super Ike. The Frontier has always performed well towing. Too bad there is no brake controller. Nissan just did not do enough to try to command the prices they have applied to the trucks. It was quite disappointing. The dealership was quite aggressive and dismissive of my comments. So objectively just based on the video, the Frontier is a very good midsize tow vehicle. Even right up to 100% of its capabilities. The suspension is well balanced for towing combine with it being an Off-road model. It had less squat than the Titan!! I wouldn’t buy one personally, but if they were about 5-8% less expensive,,,,,,,, maybe???
@@SylasG -I’m a Nissan fan, so I don’t say this to trash the Nissan. A Nissan Pro4X loaded up vs a Tacoma TRD Off-road Premium loaded up are about $1,000 Canadian apart. The Nissan being more expensive. Up to 2019 the Nissan was #1 for reliability over the Tacoma, although good luck convincing a Toyota fan, and I suspect that, as long as the 9 speed transmission is reliable, it will remain that way now. It may be worth the premium, but I don’t, they did not make this new Frontier that much different than the previous one, excepting the powertrain. It is basically a reskinned, new interior version of the old model. I suspect the cab mounts could even be in the same location!!! Hahaha. You want o talk the truck from a heavily discounted “old style” version that was at least $10,000 less than the Tacoma in a normal pre-COVID period, and then expect to get the same or more for a reskineed version,,,,, well, it doesn’t work for me. Sorry Nissan. I also would not buy a Tacoma, and didn’t. I bought a Ridgeline when I cross shopped the mid size trucks vs my needs. It excelled over the group! Safety, ride, performance.
@@shitloveaduck Don’t fix something that isn’t broke, the previous frontier was a great truck. Nothing wrong with keeping what works and making it look newer.
@@SylasG - I don’t disagree with that (to a point but they did address the powertrain), but I don’t agree you can charge the exact same price range of other products that are still better options. When I bought my Ridgeline the Frontier wasn’t available, (but I had a good rapport with the dealership initially so I was aware of costs, but they danced around the dimensions in hindsight), other than the natural off-road capabilities of the other models, the Ridgeline was far better for my needs. I did get the EX-L model with leather and the few options available, it also had a levelling kit installed. I still paid $2600 less than I would have paid for the Frontier with more features in the Ridgeline! Yep, keep what works, but don’t charge as if the truck is completely revamped,,,,,. Be 3rd in the line of costs, at least!! Hahaha.
The Ridgeline does not tow well IMO. I had a 2019 AWD. 3000 pounds is all I felt it could comfortably tow. The transmission temps would climb alarmingly high when towing 3000 pounds and it would shift quite a bit.
If I was in the market for a mid-size, I think the frontier would be my pick. v6, no turbos and 9speed. Not a fan of the turbo engines and the Tacoma seems underwhelming.
really it is a good truck, and you probably would want it over the Tacoma for a bit of more power, and it is not a bad truck at reliability, however, if you are the type of person that would want to keep that particular truck forever, go Toyota, it is by far the best at reliability, and it is approximately the same base price, but the Nissans are not that bad, so it is really up to you to decide
Frontier is a main pick of mine as I will be replacing my truck within the year. Looks, V6, better driver side seating position rear disk brakes, better infotainment.
I think the last 4.0 Frontier they tested was a 2014 Pro4x. Pulling a 5,700 lb boat up the Ike it was slower than the new Frontier with 6700 lbs. The 4.0 was a great motor. Would be curious to see how the 4.0 would work with the 9 speed.
Nissan deserves more credit, im a Chevy guy who drives a NISSAN. I'll admit it had some growing pains, probably built on a Friday, but its a solid TRUCK and for what u get dollar wise, leather loaded around view monitor, you can't beat it.
I’m a Chevy guy and Toyota guy. my first truck was a 2003 supercharged Tacoma beast of a truck. My second truck was a 2011 Silverado Z 71. I’ve had many trucks throughout the years Toyota and Chevy. Currently own A Chevy 2500 and a frontier. The new Tacomas are shit. I’ve had 4, a 2017, a 2019, and 2 2023 pros. This Frontier pro 4x premium is a better truck.
Remember they didnt dwell on it, but this is a Pro4X, which is an offroad oriented trim. Pretty decent results for something not really set up for towing.
I’ve said it before, but I would really love to see a comparison of the “old” Gen 2 Titan with the 7 speed vs the new Gen 2 Titan with the 9 speed (drag race and towing). Same with the Frontier, but the old 4.0 vs the new 3.8.
@@occckid123 The gears must be really spread out in the 9 speed. They had to gear down to a 3.69 to achieve similar results as the 7 speed with 2.93 gear ratio.
@@bwarren228 the gears are shorter but it's still slower than the 7spd. I believe the titan is almost 1 second slower than before to 60mph. I could be wrong!
@@occckid123 I’ve heard similar, but haven’t driven a 9 speed Titan before (I own a 7 speed). I still want to see it though, but I somehow doubt Nissan wants that comparison to be made.
@@occckid123 you are correct however these trucks are not built for 0-60. for example the duramax L5P 6 speeds are faster 0-60 than the L5P 10spds because less gears to run through, however the 10 speed is smoother, better for towing, more efficient, lower under drive and higher overdrive. Race a 10spd vs a 6spd from 60-100 with a trailer, the 10 speed will win every time. They are built for a purpose and 0-60 isn’t one of them.

The one thing Nissan has nailed down is trucks. Dang they make good trucks. Well, we also have a 07 Sentra with 230k miles on it, which I know it’s not the norm because never had issues with the engine or CVT.
Love my new Titan XD and my 18 Armada too. I just wish that i had option to get front bench seat in pro4x trim. For me that was a must, so i got SV. Other things i had to have in a truck: v8, NO statr stop garbage, NO cylinder deactivation and NO premium fuel ($0.50 per gallon for no real benefit, NO thanks.)
So refreshing not having start stop and other nanny's lighting up our dash isn't it! I love my 18' SL midnight edition. It's basic and such a solid truck. Seems like all other trucks have an overwhelming amount of nanny's...
We currently have an ‘18 frontier, we’ve since bought a travel trailer. The frontier pulls it, plenty of engine and transmission. Stability on the other hand, is in question. Im currently debating between a Titan XD, and a ram 3/4 ton. I’ve test driven the big threes 3/4 tons, and the XD.
I love my 2021 Titan S Base Model! I’ve basically turned it into a P4X minus the locker. Oh and you can install a tekonsha p3 brake controller in the frontier in about 5-10 min so not a big deal and it’s a better controller than most OEM

I paid 49k for my 21 pro4x Titan and it’s dealer price was only 52990 so prior to Covid this was the cheapest set of trucks to buy on the market but nicest interior outside of a ram or updated ford
The Titan is a handsome truck!
Aftermarket brake controller takes 10 minutes to install, is better and cheaper. If you're not a fat ass, hooking up the chains is a non-issue.
dude thats funny😂
If the armada gets the 9 speed you guys need to retest with the previous weights on the old armada Ike!
Good to see Mr Truck again :o) All the best for the new year Y'all.
Thanks, great to be seen, still trying to get use to winter. Happy a great year.
It's great off road! Until you run into ground clearance issues. I've ordered a Koni 2½ inch lift kit from All Dogs Off Road.
Hell yes, hell yes, hell yes... I have been waiting for a comparison like this. You rock TFL!
It's expensive
but it sure has near-Mercedes Benz level of interior luxury and technological creature comforts.

Tacoma requires 5000rpms on the ike gauntlet and everyone complains and calls it weak (mr truck actually had to back off several times on the throttle to prevent going over speed)
but the frontiers running 6000 rpm here foot to the floor and ya’ll are like “what a stout little truck.”
not to mention that Titan needed 4000+ rpm too.
ya’ll are wack. 95% of you should be driving a honda ridgeline
That's a good observation. This isn't an easy job, it's easier to look at our views from a broad spectrum like you did here
Ridgeline's cater to clam's
I know it'd be a lot if extra work but I'd love to see an extra run up and down the mountain the way most of us watching would really drive. Mainly by shifting gears manually up and down. It'd slow what the truck is truly capable of rather than what it's programmed to do. Most viewers here are smart enough to know the difference and it wouldn't confuse us. If anything it'd help us by showing proper towing tips rather than just hoping the manufacturer did it right. Add it in to the Super Ike maybe if not all test.
I like the wide tires on this pro4x Frontier. Makes the truck look beefier.
Yes, it has a cool stance
Home run with this truck. I really think this is the mid size leader at the moment. Not fancy, but a great option for the market. The powertrain is the gem.
Nissan or Toyota, both are quality products. It's a matter of personal choice! Can't go wrong with either one!
That’s a fact
If that’s true you haven’t bought a new car in the last 20 years
Since Toyota decided to drop the V8 from the Tundra, my next truck will be a Titan.
Yep. I will not own a full size truck without a V8.
Unless that's very soon, I think it will be a used Titan, as Nissan has already discontinued the NV vans (which share the chassis with the Titan XD) and it appears that Nissan is discontinuing the Titan and Titan XD.
I’ve seen a few of these and Andre always seems to add more words than necessary when signaling to stop the timer lol.
Great video as always! I think an interesting matchup would be a brand new manual Tacoma vs a New Manual gladiator!!! I’m sure we would all love to see how manuals handle the Ike!!
Keep up the great work TFL!
I like this new frontier but since a ranger refresh is on the way it will be interesting how the nissan stacks up once the ranger is out.
I agree. The new frontier looks great and the 3.8 V6 with a 9 spd puts up good numbers. But like you said, the new ranger, with a 10 spd and the 2.7 Ecoboost V6 should be a monster. Add to that raptor and tremor trims, that should be a real awesome rig.
@@tomjahn6896 have they said the Ranger is getting the 2.7tt?
@@Crob56 not really, but it will.
Dude, you never disappoint. Dude
Do a Ike of Titan vs Titan XD
Using the same tow trailer and weight.
This video made me laugh. I have a silver FJ and am considering trading it in on a Frontier. Love the FJ, but so many miles on it.
The frontier and xterra are already almost the same thing. The frontier has the same frame, just a bit longer.
It would be interesting to see if a Titan XD would perform better?
Yes, I've been begging TFL for Titan XD Ike towing.
@@putmeincoach7663
m.ua-cam.com/video/Q7owNVPxWNM/v-deo.html
With the gas engine it would just be slower because it's heavier - in these tests they don't really test anything other that grade climbing power and engine braking.
With the diesel might be interesting, but the Titan is apparently being discontinued so that's pointless now.
That sports bar on both are great for looks.
You guys have some really good videos. I would like to see you do one with the Chevy Colorado, ford ranger and the Toyota Tacoma.
Great video guys!
Thanks
I love the both of these tuck
Andre you messed up when you said Nissan went a little higher displacement with the 3.8…..ummm no….they actually went down on displacement….they went from a 4.0 to a 3.8….so yeah man….
If i has to choose between the two Nissans, I would pick the FJ 😄
No contest😄
@@fritty9927 are they not discontinued ??

Never seen a midsized truck or suv with a factory trailer brake controller, but I haven’t had any interest until recently.
Not bad… Really, it looks like the Santa Cruz was the uphill beast out of these small trucks.
At this point Nissan needs to bring back the Hardbody for the mini truck segment
Wish you would have done a super Ike, of even this weight with the 2019+ ranger.. Always feel the ranger was never properly tested
Why don't you guys have the same constant when you're doing your testing ... Use the same trailer with the same amont of weight For all your midsize trucks.... And that's just one example
I think a comparison between the new frontier and the old one (2020) would be great.
good idea if we can find one
The Titan Is So Much Better!
Do you have a website that shows where this truck compares to the others that you've tested?
towing heavy loads, 4 In the cab, full size 8 ' wide trailer , go with the titan
bitching about the receiver being recessed on a specific off-road model truck?
it really helps with departure angle. i've never owned a truck where the safety chain hookup points didn't get bent upward from hitting the ground. for me, having them tucked under a bit is a very welcome feature.
What is weight of what you are towing. Probably important to put in the intro of video
Forgot to mention the Jeep Gladiator. Am I missing any others?
Why do you run down hills ind drive and not use your gears? Drop it in a lower gear and let it hold? You'd have way less brake applications... just my opinion.
Why dont we do a tundra vs titan and f150 and silverado. non hybrids.
Damn I wish that Navara has v9x v6 diesel
Can you guys please take the latest Dakota like a 2010 with the V8 and do test on it. Please, that would be great.
Its sad you guys stopped doing videos with the FJ and just use it now for dead weight.
I would like to see more of FJ and Defender. That Defender became just a paper weight, just sad.
Way too expensive still.
So would it be OK pulling a RV 18ft rv 3000 to 5000 k max ?
Absolutely not a problem. Just need to get a trailer brake installed and some mirror extensions. Both are luckily inexpensive. The Frontier is pre-wired from the manufacturer
If it was Navara it would surpass the Titan
3500 rpm at 55mph hell no i wont tow anything at 3k rpm.
Chevy Colorado Duramax. Still the best towing midsize. Soon to be eliminated from GM offerings. Brilliant.
When they tested both, the 3.1 L gas Colorado was faster up Ike than the Duramax Colorado... which isn't surprising, given how much more power the gas engine has.
@@brianb-p6586 Yes but which one had the better MPGs?
@@ecyfoto Presumably the underpowered diesel consumed less fuel. Performance and fuel economy are both valid aspects of what makes the "best towing" vehicle.
@@brianb-p6586 Correct. Ultimately I bought it for the torque and mpg to tow my 3500 lbs camper trailer.
‘Probably the same transmission’ come on guys do some research.
The Tacoma with the same features is more expensive than the Frontier.
Thanks
Hahaha.
How about a real mid-size tow challenge with the Ranger, Taco, Colorado, and Ridgeline. It would be a fun comparison with the new Frontier.
Definitely think this would be a good idea. I’d like to get a truck in the next year and am seriously considering the frontier.
I’m not even a Ford fan, but we already know the Ford would tow the best with the twin turbos, and the Tacoma would do the worse.
@@Toe_Knee_69 until the crankcase fills up with fuel and the turbos go boom
The Ridgeline does not tow well IMO. I had a 2019 AWD. 3000 pounds is all I felt it could comfortably tow. The transmission temps would climb alarmingly high when towing 3000 pounds and it would shift quite a bit.
The Ridgeline is just “playing truck”.
Looks, V6, better driver side seating position rear disk brakes, better infotainment.
if you pay attention to the ike gauntlet test on both the tacoma and the frontier, the frontier required even more rpms to pull the same weight
Tacoma V6 and get the aftermarket KD MAX tune. World of difference. It now drives as it should drive from the factory. No difference in MPG’s.
Same here.
The one thing I like about both trucks....the tail lights. Both have depth and draw the eye towards them.
I have a frontier and the tail lights are definitely my favorite exterior thing. Looks so dope in person

Technically this is an Ike for the Titan and a super Ike for the Frontier isn’t it?
2019 Frontier vs 2022 Frontier; the goat 4.0L v6 vs the new 3.8L v6 !!!!!!!!!!!
I just searched. They also tested a 2017 Pro4x with 6100 lbs on the Ike.
I think the 9 speed made the titan slower.
@@occckid123 The gears must be really spread out in the 9 speed. They had to gear down to a 3.69 to achieve similar results as the 7 speed with 2.93 gear ratio.
