  • A small "documentary" on how much of a bombshell was dropped on employees, families, and communities as the decision was made to close PCC.
The C. Paul Phelps Correctional Center is one of few Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections facilities that offer education and re-entry programs for offenders, make clothing, do farming, offer special programs for employees, and offenders. Locally, it helps the economy thrive by providing jobs for residents spanning from Leesville to Rosepine, DeRidder, Merryville, Singer, DeQuincy, Sulphur, and Lake Charles.
On Friday, September 14, 2012 a major bomb was dropped on all employees, their families, the residents of neighboring cities, and the offenders. A spur of the moment decision to close PCC per the department and the governor. This closure will have a huge impact on local unemployment and the economy of the previously listed cities above.
This page is set up to provide links to information about the closure, and to urge anyone and everyone to call and email the governor's office, and all of our state representatives in an effort to change their minds! We'll post as much contact info as we can and if you have any you would like to share with us please do!
    Thank you for your time!

I can tell you from personal experience that this had to be the safest prison/correctional facility in Louisiana. I never saw or heard of one violation or stabbing..no weapons found..ever. Only some fights which the guards would swarm in from everywhere to stop. After hearing all the prison horror stories, I was blessed to do my time here from 2002-2003. It's sad to see Phelps was shut down and inmates sent to Angola. 💔

Even if the prison was preparing to close down, don't the system help those wardens who are going to be fired, unknowingly, to be replaced them with jobs option???

The main reason these people want these prisons open is because it provide jobs to people who otherwise wouldn’t have them. And that’s the reason prison are in all of these hock towns that has no other major business’s there. Where else would people work, in these small country towns? They provide jobs to the locals. And that’s all people honestly care about.... that’s the real reason America had the most prisons in the world. Jobs!!!! Money!!!!!!! Corruption!!!!!! Go get a real job.

The inmates with be transferred to hard core max prison and the 150 employees can get the same job by relocation. This does not break my heart in the least.

This the way of tbe world. Some private company will come in and open it back up. The prison enterprise will probably get some private company to get together and make it out of the prison they want to make. The way of the world
