  • Serious whitetail hunters use optics and use them well. They are integral to their hunt and their success. Long distance scouting to hardwoods glassing, east to west, bow, rifle, and muzzleloader - optics are a difference maker. So, what should a whitetail optics kit look like? Good question. Tune in as we talk optics for North America’s most popular big game animal.

You should do an episode on how to protect yourself from bugs, especially while hunting in warmer seasons.

I've always been someone on the fence about picking up a spotting scope. With how good the quality of these are matched with the price point, it's a no-brainer. I need a mini crossfire.

I have an illuminated strike eagle 3-18x 44 EBR in a 30mm tube on my .270 and I absolutely love it. Lots of shots fired, has never lost its zero. I’ve taken several white tail bucks with it, and one moose. That illuminated BDC reticle is FANTASTIC for those dusk hunts when a black bodied moose is moving across a dark tree line on the other side of a bog!

I think the average person would be shocked at how much they’d enjoy those 8x32’s. I use mine with a Rick Young harness and it’s like nothing is there until you need them. My 10x42’s never came out last season

You guys should make a digital optic that has a switch for pre calibrated point of impact adjustments on rifles where a suppressor is added and removed often

A couple questions for you. Please and thank you. Running a 22" Howa in 6.5 grendel. Looking for a white tail/hog optic for 200 yards and in. Capable of 300 yards under perfect conditions. I know my limit and skill set as a new hunter. Also, what would be my hunting adventure setup for this in a Midwest hunt, or Texas hunt? Again, thanks and love the information I get from your channel. Got the idea of 6.5 grendel from you guys. Great AR15 cartridge as well as bolt action hunter. 2 birds scenario. Note, i need an affordable scope as well for above rifle. Son went with a Ruger American in 308 because he watched your 308 all around caliber video. I need to get him an optic as well. 🤯

Without a budget it is hard to recommend a scope. However, you want the low end low enough for a close shot. All of my hunting scopes start at 2-4x on the low end. You don't need a heap of magnification at 300 yards. I'd also recommend a SFP scope. Why? At low power, a FFP reticle gets pretty small and hard to see in low light. A SFP is the same size no matter what. On the low end of the budget, the crossfire or diamondback 3-9s will work fine. I'd personally opt for the Viper HD 2-10x42 in the Vortex line. The Dead Hold BDC works well for hunting. With some math and a Ballistics Calculator, you can work out what each drop means at different magnification levels (what's on Vortex's website will be the highest magnification).

Anyone have a diamondback hp 4-16x42 and can confirm if it's good. Looking similar to my vortex eagle same size from academy and i really like it. Wondering if someone can confirm if the diamondback is any better or equally the same? Thank you

Can’t confirm but I’m pretty strike eagle is a step above diamondback as far as their model lineup goes

    • @BrokeandBustdOutdoors

@msquared9605 it'd the vortex eagle. It's an exclusive academy scope apparently.. seems the same at the diamondback specs so I wasn't sure. Thanks

It's good, but a touch too expensive for what you get. I do like it tho. I have it on my 22LR. Arken makes a better scope for basically same price.

    Step one, have eyeballs
Step two, wait for them to walk through my yard
Step three, it’s 20 feet away so grab whatever is handy and drop it

Diamondback will be a step up from the crossfire from how they do their lineup.

@Chonkasaurus I know, and I love the diamondback, but if the crossfire existed then I would have gotten a spotting scope years ago
