- This VHS-Cam video is taken in October 1997, the group is the early pioneers of automaticwasher.org before the internet had take hold. This was our second wash-in the first being held in Boston three months earlier in July '97. The guys arrived in Minneapolis, we had a wash-in that evening and the next day we left to spend two days at the Aberdeen, SD appliance graveyard. Full Aberdeen video is coming next!

Hi Robert, this video just showed up in my feed, what a fun time to watch. Hope you are good,
Where I come from you are considered weird. I've always been fascinated with washers and dryers and other vintage appliances. I guess in a past life I was some kind engineer or some one passed away and decided to live their life of these treasures through me. Anyway love this video and in 20 more years still will love it. Thanks guys...
Wow!! I absolutely love the 1950's design of this Unimatic washer with that square lighted control panel!!! That is awesome!!
I always enjoy seeing the history of this great website.....Am back in touch, finally.....work is slow at this point, .and able to review the topics and forums.....HTH
Never Mind, I was in my 43rd year.......and remember so many older automatic washers at relatives and neighbors homes....Total Classics......the DuoMatic my Favorite washer and the Electric Sinks and 1960 Superbas......one still in my Hometown, (electric Sink...we have a 1960 Superba)......saw it the other day....HTH in Whg.>>>>>
I remember in the 70s my father collected cars and trucks . we were part of the beginning of collecting .. these guys are the beginning of collecting washers. to me they are like old classic cars.. i know what they feel I'm into collecting ..i just wish they all would move to arizona where life is great you can wash everyday….
now this is a wash in!
boy I am glad this was made
This I think is from the very first days of the club and one of the early washins I think if i recall
I love all of these guy's
1997? Akh! I was 18. I feel so old.
So, you're 44 now? Cause I'm 46 now.
Great to see so many familiar faces doing what we do best!!! And all those years later how we all and the collections have changed!!!
God I miss the 90s .
WOW, what memories. Man have we been through a lot of machines! Great job Robert!
oxxoxo
jetcone you have been there?
@JSneaker Nope no need for a water softener here, the city of Minneapolis (and St. Paul as well) softens the water for you before it leaves the central pumping station.
automaticwasher Can you please make full cycle videos of your machines please? I am Maytag85 from automaticwasher.org.
My understanding is, that all municipal waster is supposed to be softened at the plant. However, it slowly hardens back up, as it travels through the water pipes. Water by me is that hard by the time it reaches my home. The main line is a thick iron pipe. They tap copper into that for each home. For most people, they still have to soften their water (or at least get a whole house filter) to handle all the minerals that get picked up in the pipes. My next place has well water, & I need one to filter out all the sediments, iron (luckily it's not bad in my immediate area), and lead (the house has copper pipes, & were soldered with lead solder back in 1950.
That's so cool! Nothing like vintage videos to bring back memories and create some new ones. Thanks for posting Robert! And I gotta ask, who is the hottie in the dark blue polo shirt and goatee? lol.
compliments: fantastic washers :-)
I like the philco automagic
Awesome!!! :)
for vhs thats a good picture.
How awesome. I'm just starting out collecting and love it. When do these wash-in's happen and how can i participate?
Wow...I'm so jealous that I couldn't have been there.....:-(
Do You Still Have The Philco Automagic Washer & Dryer Because I’m Looking For 1 So Bad
This video was just after I was born.
Do You Think You Can Film The Philco Automagic Machines With A Shoutout For Me
Wow
I like your washing machines, but I have to say the internet was had take hold in 1997.. Of course, I suppose we had to wait for Windows XP before most people knew how to use it.. In 1997, hipster jack asses were still telling me that email, and the internet was anti-social. To hell with them though, I was voice chatting with people all over EARTH via Yahoo in Win98. Laundry partys are cool to thou bros. SPIN CYCLE!
