Thanks so much for posting this video. This is the third video by Dr. Stephen Porges I listened to and I found all three to be very relevant to our everyday lives.

I use this in my practice as an art therapist. Polyvagal Theory connects the dots!

Calming music worked so well in our home - for the children and for me!

Every phrase uttered by this gentleman is a eureka moment for myself, an adult with adhd. Extremely instrumental to listen to this conversation. Thank you and I'll be doing a research on this topic because it seem too fascinating to be circumscribed to only this video. Once again, thank you.

Very interesting. I listened to 10 minutes so I’m going to have to listen to the whole thing, look up some terminology I used to know when I was in nursing school (lol) and let it marinate in my brain. I have not seen anything like this anywhere else! Thank you!!

Thank you for your interview with Dr. Porges. It’s helpful to promote a greater understanding of the various physiological states when trying to help children or adults who are feeling unsafe. I’m glad he mentioned the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) which he developed based on the Polyvagal Theory. Aside from the benefits for those who have been diagnosed with ADHD, those struggling with anxiety may also benefit from SSP as well.

I wonder if that's why smoking and quitting is very difficult for those with adhd because smokers inhale quickly and exhale slowly

Wow, that's a great thought! So many smokers will claim that smoking is calming and I wonder if that's part of it too!

Positively fascinating! I was a stutterer as a kid, and while I didn’t feel that my parents helped as much as they should have with this - my dad would tell me to slow down my speech, just like Stephen described the lady giving a speech. Maybe stuttering issues are rooted in the vagus nerve?

We're glad you found it useful! [Original comment - Google Translate: Uall, you don't know how this presentation came to help me that day. Reading Antonio Damasio and experiencing ADHD symptoms on my skin today in therapy, I come across the function of this nerve acting in my behavior, my inaction towards the things I want to do and don't do, something involuntary and distressing. Tomorrow I will comment more, I only watched 3 minutes of the video until this comment. Congratulations on the channel. Not in English because my skills are more listening, less writing. Hugs.]

Has anyone accessed the free chapter from Stephen Porges' book? I can't see a link to it.

Swimming too! Exhaling slowly. Is it a coincidence that one of the best swimmers in the world has ADHD. (Michael Phelps) Probably not.
