Meridian 580 Carver Voyager 530 - 570 Don’t get rid of the trash compactor. Without it you’ll generate 3-5 bags per day with 5 people onboard. I had one and was the envy of my cruising group. Also, for something you probably haven’t considered, a power cat. Tremendous amount of living space in the 43-50 foot range. More than in a 55 foot monohull. Good luck with your search!
Hi Dan! Thanks for the comment! Great suggestions on boats. I love the Meridian 580! We are going to review one soon. I am in agreement with you in the compactor! We also love catamarans and specifically the Aquila 44 but they get a little to beamy for the 23 foot max beam Loop restriction. We will see... thanks for following! -Mark
And hard to find! We did notice the Aquila doesn’t really have a good salon area and like many trawlers they are still more sailboat like which to us means a little more spartan by design and not quite as comfortable or our personal live aboard needs.
I second the trash compactor. Keep it! Extremely valuable especially if anchoring for long periods of time. You will be able find a spot for a wine fridge.
Hi Mark! Thanks for watching and great question. I believe they calculate the height based upon certain River level criteria. It sometimes can be a larger clearance height if there has been a lack of rain. I also read if not a lot of traffic and you call ahead they can change the River level a tiny bit... not sure if that is a myth or not. Either way we are basing our clearances for all aspects of the Loop off of a very popular resource called Captain John. captainjohn.org/GL-3-Scoop.html Hope that answers your question. @@TheBoomershines I think the Aquila 44 is an awesome boat also. Didn't suggest it specifically as they're still pretty pricey.

Is the 19.6 constant or is it the height at maximum/minimal river levels?

That part of the loop is in between two locks, so the clearance stays relatively constant. 👍
Ocean Alexander???
Definitely on the list!!! Pretty hard to find east coast lately. Thanks!!!
