Congratulations! Ocean Alexander is a very good boat. When I was young back in the mid 1980's I helped commission new OA's in Alameda, CA. We would take delivery directly off the freighter into the Oakland Estuary and sail the boats to our docks and install all the hvac and navigational electronics, radar, autopilots etc. I remember how exciting the process was for the new owners. The boats were built very well, only occasionally needing some fine tuning with engine alignments and prop balancing. Joinery was outstanding, and systems were installed to high standards. Have fun and enjoy!
What a cool job! And you might have driven our boat way back then. Wouldn't that be a small world coincidence. Thanks for watching and for this super cool comment!!!

Whew is right! Glad we could help entertain you when you were sick. Hope you are back to 100%! Mark finally got his smell back but it took a bit of time. Hope you will join us on our loop adventure as well.

I’m very excited for you guys. I think you found an, as close to perfect boat for your loop. It’s funny how different a loop boat I’m looking for. Then again I will be mostly single handing the loop. I also have the desire to build my loop boat. That may not be the best economic choice, but logic has never gotten in my way before. Being a woodworker I can appreciate the beautiful bright work on your boat. Not to mention the awesome engine room. This will bring a lifetime of memories for you and your kids. Much love
Welcome to the OA family! We have a 96 OA 548 Pilothouse and loving it. We are currently in the Bahamas cruising for the winter. Previous owners completed the loop with her and had to remove satellite and radar from the hardtop, was not an issue for them. Good Luck with outfitting and prepping for your journey! We will keep an eye out for you on the water!
Congrats on your new boat, I truly enjoyed following your adventure especially in Jan 2022 when I was quarantine with Covid. Each week I waited for your new release and hoping for a final selection and launch date. Ocean Alex are a great boat. I have seen them in Lauderdale for years behind the Boat Yard restaurant. Hope you keep the story going.

First thing first, I'm claiming the where's Waldo prize for identifying the change of sketch with the necessary boat dimensions to do the loop. I believe I called it out three or four episodes ago. Secondly, Congratulations, Congratulations, Congratulations, Ocean Alexander is a very high quality boat. Your particular model looks to be outstanding. Once you said four bedrooms for bathrooms I immediately knew the bathrooms would be tight but they still look very comfortable and should serve your family well. I'm excited to see your modifications to the vessel. The engine room looks to be magnificent and is probably the most important aspect to consider with your purchase. Now for the modifications and then for the cruise.

Love seeing people living their dreams, and it was like watching two little kids describing what they got for Christmas kinda all over the place, but in the best kind of way!!!!! This is the first of your videos that I have seen. I will follow your adventures because We have cruised the loop for 20 years on our 40-foot Pacemaker motor yacht. Your enthusiasm is great. My advice is to spend a year with the boat before you make any changes because you do not know what you do not know. Welcome to the loop.
Absolutely phenomenal. We met a couple at the Fall Rendezvous last year that had an O. A. and we fell in love with it. Unfortunately we are still on the hunt after this past Monday. More on that later. Still pickin’ up trash. Thanks. D.
Hi David! We heard about your adventures. Sounds like a doozy. But all that means to me is that your perfect boat is still out there. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you find it soon.
I’m about 3 years behind y’all, and we also live south of you at lake Spivey. Your videos are feeding my need for the loop! Enjoying watching your journey (right now I’m obviously only at you buying this boat.) we also sold our 1930 bungalow a few years ago in the city. So I relate to that also.
It is higher than 19.6 and spoiler alert! We made it through all bridges :) 19'6" is just a rough guide as is your boat's height. Our height was constantly changing with fresh or salt water, how much fuel, how much water, how much food, how much rum. 😎 Anyone that says they know their EXACT air height most likely doesn't at any given moment. ⚓😎 Here is the listing for her...www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1987-ocean-alexander-motor-yacht-long-range-cruiser-8921908/
Wow, wow, WOW! Such a beautiful Lady Cinda should be her name! Can’t wait to see Cinda work her magic on the interior. To expand the feel of the heads, consider adding mirrors to the ceiling and one adjacent wall. Our friends did this on their 56’ Hatteras MY and it made all the difference! Can’t wait to see you soon in the Chesapeake Bay!
🎈🍾Conga Ratts, 🎶 it’s so exciting just to see how excited you guys are. Lovely boat. 🥂🎈 Renaye guessed the boat a while back as she noticed that it looks like the same boat that you have been using for the picture for the measurements. Again Congratulations. Yahoooooo! 😀😀

Great find, unicorns are out there. My wife and I are in the hunt. We have a bitnof time to go but are very excited for the journey. Its such a great way to explore and spend a year together on the water. About you tender, my recommendation would be the largest williams jet you can carry. You will be able to get in and put of any water depth. They are awesome. Pricy but you can find them used. I don't think you would be disappointed. Cruise safe and enjoy the journey.
That is a great suggestion! We will look into it. Thanks for watching and good luck on your boat hunt. Unicorns do exist -- and if there is one, there has to be two!
What a great find . its the perfect choice !! even more vintage appeal than the Hatteras and a far more interesting layout . looking forward to the remodel videos and all the great loop prep
Congrats all the way around, ahoy adventures!!! Need just a tad more animation and excitement in your anouncement. I think the loop was made for the boat, what a perfect fit.
I got rid of my toaster and intant pot airfryer and replaced them with a Cosori Toaster Oven Air Fryer combo. I LOVE THIS THING!!! It toasts bread and bagels perfect, it air fries, it bakes, it make pizza, it broils, it thaws. The only thing it doesn't do is operate itself.
You’ll love it, my folks have a 1989 ocean Alexander 50ft sedan, and my uncle has a 61ft pilot house. They’re extremely popular here in the PNW and very highly regarded.
I am happy for you guys for finding a boat !! In the NW we have a lot of OA's and Ed Monk designed most of that vintage, he is one of my favorite ! I am a Fleming guy but OA's that where built in Taiwan are great boats. Having stabilizers on that boat is a must they get a little squirrely in a side sea but run great into the sea. I think finding a boat that was so well kept and has had so many upgrades is the key to buying a older boat. I have found 2 boats like that over the years and been very happy with the results. Its better to have a well kept boat a few years older than one that was not well maintained. After the loop you should come here and try the inside passage, its incredible . I say change the sectional out for something a little cleaner , it will be a nice update.
Nice Find ! Can't go wrong with an OA. One of my previous boats was a 42 Carver42 aft cabin. The swim platform was narrow like this OA and had no railings to hold onto. I put a stainless rail all across the stern and had custom removable staples made for the swim platform. My boat had a transoms door up on the deck making it fairly easy to go down the steep ladder. Carver later on put a really nice spiral staircase on the port size. Enjoy your new OA...😎
When you get to Oswego Ny you should totally explore the town! If you are planning the trip you should get here in late July there is a massive festival called harbor fest with one of the best fireworks ever!
Really nice!!!! Hope you enjoy that! She's just lovely!!! Now, start showing us how you spruce her up and use her. Can't wait!!! May you have many carefree hours of cruising and living aboard! God Bless!
Thank you Paul!!! We really appriciate all your kind comments and enthusiasm. We hope to start documenting the whole adventure soon as we figure everything out. Hope you have a great weekend.
Congratulations on the great find and purchase that you made on this beautiful looking motor vessel. Your vessel is in immaculate condition, especially the engine room, with all of the amenities to make life on board very comfortable during a long voyage! Also, a clean engine is a happy engine room! Happy travels! 😉
Thank you very much Jim! Now all we need is to get comfortable operating her. But that should come with time. We really appreciate the kind comment and support :)
@@TheBoomershines Didn’t y’all mention bow and possibly stern thrusters on her? If that is the case they will help y’all a whole lot pulling in and out of boat slips!
@@TheBoomershines That’s another plus of having those on your yacht. Normally older yachts of that size didn’t have bow and stern thrusters on them unless it was a special order made to the factory before build time took place. One of my classmates at Houston Marine training center had a 65’ Derecktor Yacht which was a beautiful boat with those old yacht lines. Derecktor Shipyard was best known for building racing sail boats. I like those lines on your vessel too. I’m really not much of a fan of these newer boat designs now-a-days.
Congrats on the new boat. We just completed the Great Loop in a Back Cove 37. With your draft, you should really watch your depths. We draw 3"8" and touched three times and went hard aground once. Also, with your air draft, you'll be waiting at many bridges for an opening but I'm sure you're aware of that. We really didn't see many boats that large on the Loop, but we did see some. Good luck and just keep going in the face of the adversities to come. The Loop is a test of your maintenance skills and your perseverance. It's a lot of fun. Enjoy!
Thanks Jeffrey! We are excited to get started and know there are going to be many adversities/opportunities for growth ahead. Just curious, where did you encounter depth issues on the loop?
Re: Tender. You may find if you need to launch or retrieve the Whaler in rough conditions to be a bit tricky. IE- The first time that thing beats the hell out of the side of SeaSHINE, you'll wish you had a RIB. I wouldn't stress about it for the loop, but if you guys start exploring the Bahamas, I'd definitely swap 'er out for a RIB. And yeah, I know you can just leave the Whaler in the water or on the bridge until things calm down, but you may not always have that option. Sometimes you've gotta go NOW for various reasons. Either way, you guys have a hell of a setup. We most likely won't cross wakes, but if we do, look out for a Hatteras 53 MY named Snowdrift. Grub 'n brew's on us; welcome to boat life!
Great points! We already dealt with that issue. We anchored off Cumberland Island and it was too windy to comfortably put the tender in which was a real bummer. We may switch the whaler out for the Bahamas. Thanks for the intel and for the warm welcome!
SO LOOKIN FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL FLOATIN/cruzin/put put puttin around THE GREAT LOOP !!!!! CONGRATS!!!! VERY SHARP LOOKIN BOAT!! ummmm extended range?? you said??? :)
Keep the Boston Whaler. Having several ribbed dinghies the seams, etc being glued tend to fail over time. The outer tubes have also been prone to tears and puncture holes as well..
Boston Waler the best choice for sure, you will never have to worry about it deflating. I have plenty of experience with those tender and i would not change Boston Waler for an inflatable. Congratulations on your new boat.
I had a 45 Bayliner with a 10’ Whaler on the top. Whaler is a great boat but HEAVY. It was a b***h getting it up and down. Got rid of it for a rib. We now have a 48’ Navigator with a Walker Bay rib and davit. Still is an effort to get it down so we are putting on a Freedom Lift this Spring. The easier it is to deploy your dinghy the more you will use it. We start our loop in the Fall from Minnesota. Congratulations.
Dingy, on the great loop no question you want a fiberglass dingy due to rough environment, if cruising the Bahamas with lots of diving and snorkeling then a ridge bottom inflatable
She’s a beaut! I’m almost positive (because I got the Covid this week, on strong meds, and my vision is sort of blurry), but I’ll be looking at the pictures again soon enough, multiple times I’m sure! I am so happy for you guys, it’s like I got a boat and don’t have to fill the fuel tank. I can’t believe how awesome this is, and 4 cabins 4 heads! The flying bridge is great, what a score. I’m sure you will do a great job erasing some of the 1980s style/fixtures in the heads, couch, countertops, and it will look excellent. Nice engines! I would prefer a Boston Whaler tender but, with the stern layout I agree on a RIB because you’re going to be bumping into that platform and both sides managing the tender. You also may be able to get a slightly larger RIB that weighs less than the tender. I’m rambling. Very happy and impressed. Thanks for the great VBS run, epic. S
Oh no on Covid! At least you have super powers now! Thanks for being a fan of our pick of boat and great suggestion about the tender. Get well soon! ⚓️Mark
The Boomershines thanks! I know you recently had Covid and I was hoping for a mild time of it, but nooooo. Not a sneeze in two years, still wearing masks and doing the right things, and as soon as they say it’s pretty much over - Bam! Can’t wait to go online and find all the details that I can about your model yacht. Thanks again for sharing all of this! Talk to you later. S
@@Slonge92 Good luck finding anything and please let us know what you do find. There is not much out there on our model. So sorry you had a run of it with Covid.
Suggest installing the radar & TV/Internet domes on some type of collapsible Alum arch which you can lower & raise as neccesary. Best wishes on your trip !!!
Hi congrats! The chairs are great. The blackish mold and grime on the chairs come off easily with a scrubbing paste of baking sofa, peroxide and dawn blue dish liquid. Beautiful boat! Jealous of your staterooms, mine only has three staterooms and three heads….again congrats!
Please consider the Williams Jet Tensers. They are like a jet ski with gasoline or disel engines. I consider any jet ski safer than the Whaler or inflatable tender because they don't have a propeller and are faster than an outboard. Congratulations on your new home and please be safe. .
I saw the listing on this boat when it was on Allied Marines site. You got a great boat! Trawlers are just wonderful for the loop and that's a well built boat. The clearance might be a little more challenging than you think though. Congratulations and good luck with her.
Congretulations with the new boat ! Really looks like a good boat, when all the technical items are in order you will absolutely enjoy it. Stabs are an absolute winner, I am going to install them next year, pretty costly affair (around 75.000 USD), so you saved that amount right there. Just don't know how much you will need them on the Great Loop. And just a tip, if you want to lower your fuel consumption even more...........simply run on one engine. You will do around 6 to 7 kts, low consumption and less hours on the engines. Many of us trawler types do it. If I would run both my engines I will do around 8 kts and burn about 4 gallons per hour. On one engine I will do about 6 kts and burn around 2 - 3 gallons per hour. If you are not in a hurry that will extend your range significantly. We just put it on auto-pilot and off she goes. As for electricity, you might want to think about installing solar panels. I have 600 Wp solar on board right now, but that will be increased to 4,5 Kwp next year with Lithium batteries, making the generator completely redundant. Will just keep it as a back up. Saves a lot of fuel and a lot of noise when you are at anchor. Good luck and again, congratulations on your acquisition, looks great and you will have an absolute blast on board ! Oh, and btw, keep the Boston Wayler. As Cruising Holiday stated the glue tends to fail on ribs after a couple of years.
WE have a 15' Whaler jet boat. As you know, they don't sink, but they are ridged and can make for a hard ride in bumpy water. We love our whaler but sometimes I'm envious of those with inflatables.
Lol we named our 34” PDQ Motor Catamaran “Almost Purrfect” our original plan 5 years ago was to do the loop, but we haven’t left yet. We have to fully retire first I guess, whatever that means?? But we already live in Florida and she is lift kept in our backyard ,so she is properly and throughly enjoyed just the same. Enjoy your adventure.
That truly is a "unicorn"! You're right about window leaks ruining the BEAUTIFUL wood. And that engine room! Repowered too!
That boat is a perfect choice. Congratulations. You guys are going to have a blast. I homeschooled my kids and traveled. You’re going to love it.

Congrats! I know you are very excited to begin your new Adventure! I look forward to following your trip, as my wife and I are headed out next March!
You will be right behind us! Thanks for joining us on this adventure!!!
Thanks Justin!
Just found your channel ! Great boat with Great boat owners. Greetings and all the best from the Brit in California
cheers.
Congrats all the way around, ahoy adventures!!! Need just a tad more animation and excitement in your anouncement. I think the loop was made for the boat, what a perfect fit.
We did get a bit carried away didn’t we? We couldn’t help it! ⚓️Mark
Such excitement!
Fantastic. That's a great looking boat. Excellent job doing all of the research and sharing with all of us. Congratulations.
Thanks for following along! ⚓️Mark
Thank you for this suggestion! We have an air fryer, instapot combo but the Cosori sounds like it might fit our needs better. I'll check it out!
You’ll love it, my folks have a 1989 ocean Alexander 50ft sedan, and my uncle has a 61ft pilot house. They’re extremely popular here in the PNW and very highly regarded.
That is a great recommendation! So far we are totally in love with her -- you can tell she was super well built. Thanks for watching!
Awesome you have the range to do the Mississippi route instead of the tenn tom route if you wanted!!! Beautiful vessel!
Thank you! We have the range but decided to get off the Mississippi as quickly as possible LOL
Congratulations and what a ride it's been! Have enjoyed shopping with you, and now look forward to adventuring with you. Enjoy the trip.
Thanks for being there with us! Let’s keep the adventure going! ⚓️Mark
Looking to see more video on ur works to the boat. U guys are amazing
Beyond Unicorn! Great boat,Congratulations.
Thanks Robert! Mark dreams of doing the inside passage so you never know!
Awesome that fly bridge looks sweet!
That is great news...congratulations...she looks like a beautiful boat for your needs. 💯✌
Thanks Steve!
When you get to Oswego Ny you should totally explore the town! If you are planning the trip you should get here in late July there is a massive festival called harbor fest with one of the best fireworks ever!
Thanks for the intel. We should be there in early July I imagine.
Wow, great choice! Been a fun search.
Awesome! How exciting - you've been working on it long enough.
It took forever -- but we got a good one!! Thanks for joining us on this adventure.
What A Great Boat and person you got it from IAM Soo sure he is so Ever Happy Too
We agree and hope so!!!!
I am buying your boats sister that’s in Seattle. Your boat is laid out completely differently. I like your layout!
Did you look at our boat? She is in Brunswick and ready for a new owner.
Congratulations, was starting to think I would die of old age before you bought one...... yaaaaa! ! Safe travels 👍👀💙
Cuisinart mini Air Fyer oven dump the insta pot! Sweet ride will be looking for your Loop updates. Congrats!
@@thercattrainer yes they do!!!!
@@TheBoomershines Well, that’s another plus of having those on your yacht!
VERY SHARP LOOKIN BOAT!!
ummmm extended range?? you said??? :)
Just a beautiful boat! Best of luck guys’d!
Thank you Jim!
Nice. Excited for you!
Awesome!!! Congratulations! Good luck!
Keep the Boston Whaler. Having several ribbed dinghies the seams, etc being glued tend to fail over time. The outer tubes have also been prone to tears and puncture holes as well..
Congrats !! You got me a bottle of rosé. Now she needs a voice.. I hope this is what you will announce on Saturday ;)
Oh the voice. I am not sure anything will be as good as Oscar, but we will figure something out LOL
Boston Waler the best choice for sure, you will never have to worry about it deflating. I have plenty of experience with those tender and i would not change Boston Waler for an inflatable. Congratulations on your new boat.
Thanks for the tip!
@@TheBoomershines You will not have to worry about it sinking either 😎
I had a 45 Bayliner with a 10’ Whaler on the top. Whaler is a great boat but HEAVY. It was a b***h getting it up and down. Got rid of it for a rib. We now have a 48’ Navigator with a Walker Bay rib and davit. Still is an effort to get it down so we are putting on a Freedom Lift this Spring. The easier it is to deploy your dinghy the more you will use it. We start our loop in the Fall from Minnesota. Congratulations.
Congratulations! Looks like a great boat for you!
Thanks Allan!
Dingy, on the great loop no question you want a fiberglass dingy due to rough environment, if cruising the Bahamas with lots of diving and snorkeling then a ridge bottom inflatable
Great intel! We may look at trading in our Whaler for a rib before we head to the Bahamas
Congrats on the yacht! A great choice.
We couldn’t have done it without you!!! Thank you for helping us find our boat - and for providing countless hours of entertainment while shopping 🎉🙌
Congrats! I'm looking for mine now, so I get that the struggle is real!
LOL. It definitely is! Good luck with your search. Sending you good boat fnding/buying vibed
Finally!!!! Congratulations 🎆
Fantastic adventures begin.
A teacher should Love to go for this adventure of a Lifetime.
We hope! Thanks!
Suggest installing the radar & TV/Internet domes on some type of collapsible Alum arch which you can lower & raise as neccesary. Best wishes on your trip !!!
Interestingly, our arch is hinged but we'd have to take the hard top off to lower the arch.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I love that boat. I agree the aft is not sexy but it certainly have a lot to offer.
I kept telling Cinda we can’t have our first big boat be perfect! We need something to shoot for afterwards. ⚓️Mark
Congratulations on purchasing your boat. It is gorgeous. I wish you guys the best on your journey.👍👍👍
Thanks so much Tarek!!!
Thanks for the tips! Not sure what chairs or mold or grime you are talking about but if we see any we will use your tip for sure!
@@TheBoomershines the upper helm seats have a lots of black grime in the vinyl
@@Beanieweenieable Never even noticed that LOL. I just assumed it was wear but I'll get after it and see if it comes off
Please consider the Williams Jet Tensers. They are like a jet ski with gasoline or disel engines. I consider any jet ski safer than the Whaler or inflatable tender because they don't have a propeller and are faster than an outboard. Congratulations on your new home and please be safe.
.
Congratulations!
Now its time for making dreams come true and creating wonderful memories.
I saw the listing on this boat when it was on Allied Marines site. You got a great boat! Trawlers are just wonderful for the loop and that's a well built boat. The clearance might be a little more challenging than you think though. Congratulations and good luck with her.
Thank you!!!!
Finally. It has been fun
I CANT BELIEVE..SO GR8!!..
Good luck, we're all counting on you
No pressure! ⚓️😎
Congratulations on SeaShine. During the video you eluted to how you were going to handle the cat littler. Will you have more on that in a later video?
Definitely! Short answer is pellets!
WE have a 15' Whaler jet boat. As you know, they don't sink, but they are ridged and can make for a hard ride in bumpy water. We love our whaler but sometimes I'm envious of those with inflatables.
Its a very tough call. Both are great for different reasons. Thanks for your input!!!
Very nice....Awesome for you guys! I'd love to do something like this....
You should! Where there is a will, there is a way :)
We have a inflatable dinghy, and last year we got a 13 foot whaler, whaler is great.
Thanks for the intel!
See you out there on the loop!
Yes!
