Wenceslao Futanaki I would say that that’s more SNES era. In the NEs era they made a bunch of... not so good games like NES metal gear(and the less said about snakes revenge the better) and the TMNT game with the darn dam level.
@@AstroBlakeD And they don't suck. It's sad to say but, like most companies do, they move on. Konami had some real trouble and resulted in some major shit games in the late 2000's. So do you keep doing the same ol' same till you're bankrupt, no, they went to where the money is. Sad? yes, do I like it? No. Even with a great franchise like Silent hill, you need quality on a consistent basis
I think castlevania 3 has the BEST FUCKING ENTRY SONG EVER of the first 3.It even competes with castlevania 4 with simons tune. Even a game as hard as this, it ends up being nostalgic for me when i didn't play it as a kid.I was wholly impressed with the music. I really like the forest, and i really like this song and a couple others too.
PKMN Trainer Red another thing, there is a song that comes later on which is also quite good.I'm not sure the name but i really like it.Overall, i think this game has a top notch soundtrack.
The whole pace and beat of the 1st level of the game sounded like as if the developers were saying "Yeah, part 2 sucked. Let's forget about the whole thing and go!"
This whole OST still gives me the damn chills. I would go ahead and say they are my favorite set of compositions ever made for a videogame. People will go ahead and say Megaman 2 or something is their favorite for the NES, but this just has so much more variety and complexity than that. Megaman 2 is something like 80s rock and metal and that's all there is. Castlevania 3 to me is more inspired by classic movie music and 70's prog rock. It's got dissonance, tension, groove, and some of the best melodies in videogames. It has it all for me.
My question to the composers has nalways been, did they know they were on the cusp of a video game music revolution when the Castlevania and Simon's Quest came out, cause with this game's soundtrack, they really pulled out all the stops. One of the greatest musical scores. It's like, ok, we're hired to compose music for a friggin 8bit video game but we're gonna put in all of our musical creativity and bloody tears (see what i did there) into this project cause maybe in one day in the future people will call us geniuses.
I think, as good as the music really is, the inspiration was really clear, therefore their goal was a distinct one. ""Translate in an 8 bit chip-tunes, music from Hammer film productions and Warner brothers Monster movie." I mean this is not denying their genius, but we know they not create this from nothing.
So happy, Bloodstained - Curse of the Moon is strongly a homage to this game and even fixes some of its minor issues. Dracula's Curse is way better than Super Castlevania IV.
They really did a hell of a job with this games soundtrack. with just the bleeps that 8bit nintendo can give out this sounds better than alot of 16bit snes games
I want to hear the mad forest again, because it is that good.I hope the future castlevanias use it, as it is underrated.I like demon seed too, its very catchy.
I'm listening to this through earbuds and it sounds honestly amazing. I remember my younger brother playing this game when we were kids- the way this sounds is the way my memory of this game fools me into thinking it sounded when we played it back then. The work you put into this makes hearing this music a whole new experience. Great job!
Classic. I remember listening to and liking Demon Seed over and over again when I was a kid. I also liked Epitaph, but it was kinda scary with the laugh mimic in the background.
I've always said that Konami is one of the kingpins of the NES soundtrack, along with Sunsoft, Tecmo, Taito and others. But here it shows that conversion to the American version was middling. Yes, the Japanese version with 3 extra sound channels make music sound impressive but lacked effort here, because I have heard many issues that made using the two channels that come by default on the NES, and really take full potential, but lacked more work here. I like both versions, but I lean more to the Japanese version.
The "Aquarius" theme looks familiar to me. I think Apioeus made a remix of that theme and put that remixed theme in his SM64 hack: mario's nightmare v1.1
Me and my old school mate used to play this game. My mate was not skilled like as I do, so I completed this game. He was glad when we completed. We were only 12-13 at that time. Now I am 36 years old man.
those arps at 10:10 are so fucking sick sounding, it sounds better than what they did in the VRC6 version, to me. i guess with the limited sound technology, they nicely found a way to make it sound unique and amazing, much how they did the NES version of Castlevania II
Tim & Geoff Follin, Neil Baldwin, Naoki Kodaka, Jeroen Tel, Alberto Jose Gonzalez, David Wise, Masaharu Iwata, George Sanger, David Warhol, Marshall Parker, Iku Mitzuani, Nobuo Uematsu, and too many others of separate companies and even just sole composers. So yes, there is some competition of those who were better than Konami at NES music :P
***** Yes I understand there were many brilliant composers for the NES, I grew up with that machine and had a good ear for the best tracks. I'm talking about on a consistent basis with their huge library of games. The difference between Konami's composers and some of the others is that Konami's NES library (of course with a few exceptions) is stellar, whereas composers such as Follin and David Wise have worked on some real crap games, and I didn't think Uematsu's work on the 8 bit FF games was all that great (he really shined on the SNES). I believe Konami knew the NES better than most others, even more than Nintendo itself.
mistaphill is absolutely right. While there are many great video game composers and many companies that have made awesome music, there is no single video game developer/publisher with a stronger background in music theory and technology, than Konami. Think about it this way. The sound that so many people associate with NES is not exactly an NES sound, but more accurately a Konami sound. They developed the software/hardware trickery to generate the extra sound channels that makes this sound so full of life. People who try to discount Konami's influence upon video game music are grasping at straws to generalize, while ignoring easily observable history. Sure, other companies eventually offered similar methods of expanding the sound capabilities of the early consoles, but none of those companies did it at Konami's level. LucasArts comes to mind.. they could often match Konami's quality, but not the quantity. For the record, I am not a Konami fanboy, by any stretch of the imagination. These are simply the historical facts surrounding the matter.
In my professional opinion, this is the greatest nes game of all time. My personal favorite and will remain that way till Dracula sucks the life from DEEZ NUTZ!!!!!
Man NES sound and music was so amazing...I guess the nostalgia is insane as this was literally my entire childhood. Whenever I hear any NES music I'm literally transported back in time when I was a kid and everything I went through. I remember my grandma dying & the way I coped was playing Castlevania 3. Insane that a video game can help you get through hard times in your life but its true. Miss the 80s!!!

Prelude really has a 1980s sword and sorcery cinematic quality to it. Just that opening. I can see the barbarian on horseback, clad in steel and fur, looking off the cliff top at the castle in the distance before the film title fades into the screen in a cool looking font above the castle in the sky.
Thanks Wiiguy. I prefer the NTSCU version of the soundtrack. Whereas the Akumajou Densetsu version does sound better in many cases (For example Clockwork) a lot of the time it just sounds like extra, unnecessary noise. (Maybe because I grew up playing the U ver of the title.) *shrug*

I like the stereo version very fucking cool. You should create a stereo version of the famicom version. The sndtrk for the famicom was better. But this is still hella cool.
the way Aquaris kicks in at 15:19 after Nightmare just demands your attention hearing this whole ost again is amazing it's like beating the game all over again without all the heartache and anger of dying over and over lol thanks for the uplaod can't wait for it to get to the dracula tunes

+emmanuel leon So true, so true. It upsets me that there's some kind of MM2 brainwash when MM3 is clearly the best.
