When I was in grad school, friends and I went to see John, Trilok Gurtu and Kai Eckhart perform in Fort Worth. After the show, we got a chance to go back stage and hang out with them. I still have a picture of us having beers. 😃 Out of the blue, we invited them back to our student apartment the next day for lunch. John asked ‘what’s for lunch?’ We said on a whim ‘Dosas’. He said ‘Sure’. It was the most epic lunch of my life..A gentleman thru and thru. We were just a bunch of poor students and he was/is a world renowned musician. But humble and kind enough to indulge a few fans.
I have the live album with those three guys. It is one of the most astounding albums that I have heard out of the hundreds of albums that I have heard. Everything I have heard Trilok on is top notch. I think Zakir once said that if Trilok only played the tabla , he would be the best tabla player in the world.
Growing up, listening to John-ji and Zakir-ji and later on getting introduced to the mastery of Shankar-ji, it was awesome to watch them at one of their Remembering Shakti concerts and mingling backstage with them. What a blessing to live in the times of such great artists. Mourning Utsad Zakir Hussainji’s loss today while I tear up watching them belt out their piece. Om Shanti.
So glad to see Shankar Mahadevan's "casual" vocal mastery combine with the established legends John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain to create this marvelous collaboration! To be clear, there is nothing casual about Mahadevan's mastery, it's just that he presents it in a way that appeals to the younger generation. Hugely appreciate Mahadevan for popularizing Indian classical music among the younger generations.
I am reduced to tears for the memory of Rang Bhavan and the Cooperage grounds in Bombay. My first exposures to these Masters. They are sublime. They bring joy with them wherever they perform. May their blessings be endless. Thank you for this.
For such global jams it is technically interesting how delays are compensated so all three hear each other in sync for the performance and later mixed together to sync in audio/video.
My 2 favorite musicians with my now favorite vocalist. I have no idea what he is singing but he has touched me on every level. As do John and Zakir. Welcome to bliss...
That eternal smile of satisfaction on Maestro John’s face in the end says it all. The satisfaction that he and his loving friends have created another masterpiece. Priceless. God bless them and keep them playing forever.
Wooowww sir main nishabd hu I think music se khoobsurat kuch bhi nhi h is duniya mein bilkul sachaa pure aur puri tarah se saaf... Puri duniya ki ragon mein sangeet ka he khoon daudta h sir sirf aur sirf ap jaise mahan fankaron ki wajah se... Thank you so much humare liye itni khoobsurat chiz dene ke liye..💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Awesome, three legends in their own fields have really beautifully played their roles excellently. No comparison among themselves. Par excellent combination of three legends. Very soothing to hear.
With highest respect to the musical performance, allow me to also praise the video and the video editing. What an incredible, most authentic audio-visual experience!
Such a wonderful blending of western and Indian music was Shakti. I remember sitting at the front table seeing McLaughlin just playing an acoustic guitar with a bass player at Blues Alley in DC. Amazing to watch his technique. I remember seeing Zakir Hussein's father Alla Rakha play with Ravi Shankar in Richmond Va decades ago. He certainly had a master teacher. How great to see these masters play together.
That chord at 1:50 and that smile on John’s face.. pure bliss. He knew that’s where the melody started creating the magic. And then at 2:16 Shankar’s voice… it’s mesmerizing … nothing to say about Zakir. Mindblowing. what an amazing composition and fusion. What an incredible way to lead the next generation(s) in the right direction. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏
Such bliss to watch these legends play so beautifully- Loved every part of this performance. My Namaskar to all of them and thank you for sharing this.
Maestro Music Mr Shankar MAHADEVAN Mr Zakir Husain And You Dissolved Notes and creates stream of flowing composition Feeling lucky Thanks full to the God that I m enjoying real music Mer two of you and Performed with one of these three masters The real musicians and Gems of Earth
What a gift! Absolutely amazing. I was fortunate to watch the original Shakti in a concert in Bangalore in early 1980s (shows how old I am). Always loved Maestro John Mclaghlin and Ustad Zakir Hussain's music. Great to see them back in action.
In a world presently filled with so much dissonance, listening to 'Is That So' for the first but far from the last was like a summer breeze gently drifting through my senses.. with a sensitive and beautifully crafted video
What a glorious moment to witnessed the three Masters of Indian Classical Music Gurus from different parts of the world came together and give us a freshness of breathe in pandemic war crisis! Its directly came from Heaven. Thank You and lots of love ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
The faces themselves are somehow another musical instrument that take sound to another level. McLaughlin's are simply a joy, a wise joy. 🙏🏼
What a graceful song by Maestro John McLaughlin and Zakir such talent coming from a trio.Thank you again Kohn McLaughlin for sharing your beautiful melody and sensitivity. You are blessef.
Ride on this man's voice all the way back home to heaven! Accompanied of course by the musicians. Saved again by John McLaughlin, who always reminds me of love. Notice his name contains the word "Laugh". Laugh my friends laugh!
Thank you all so very much for this. I was at the Royal Festival Hall in 2013 at the Remembering Shakti concert with my previous partner where you performed this track live. That night will stay with me until my dying day. Thank you all for such sweet bliss through the gift of music.🌞🙏🇬🇧🌞
Rest in peace, Ustaad. So lucky to have seen Shakti live one last time in SF last year.
Hindu christian muslim together make the world peace ..... thanks

Awesome story!
Woah! That's really great to know!!!
Me as a grad student watching and reading this. Wow!
I have the live album with those three guys. It is one of the most astounding albums that I have heard out of the hundreds of albums that I have heard. Everything I have heard Trilok on is top notch. I think Zakir once said that if Trilok only played the tabla , he would be the best tabla player in the world.
Uh, that song and this story made my day!

John, closing in on earning the title of an octogenarian, playing with the fire and passion of a 20-year old
And why not? He is ageless.
He has the Shakti!
He seems to exert little effort when performing. He is so fluid, as is Zakir, another old guy.
I have said this once or twice, but I'll say it again. This is what God listens to.
✅
Amazing tal counting by Shankar Mahadevan
Three incredible maestros rendering a thumri in a cross-genre rendition. World Music does not get any better!!
correct! incredible! maestros
Shankar Sir's Voice is pure gold for sure. 3 Legends.
So glad to see Shankar Mahadevan's "casual" vocal mastery combine with the established legends John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain to create this marvelous collaboration!

Shankar Mahadevan is also a legend...
@@TheMusicPro That is exactly my point.
Loved it how beautifully you have described it. Deep.
"Dekhe Sab Naari, Saheli-Jiyaa Ghabraye" made my heart melt.
Can you translate what that means mate?!
@@Karne282My body cloth (Chunar) is getting wet. All the women and my mates are watching me, I am so nervous.
Those vocal melodies were incredibly moving. John has been the soundtrack to my life since I was thirteen. In dog years, I'd be dead.
I see Zakir Hussain I click.
Very fees guarantees in life. The excellence in his work is one of them!
John is still shooting fire after all these years...... such a master!!!!!
I am reduced to tears for the memory of Rang Bhavan and the Cooperage grounds in Bombay. My first exposures to these Masters. They are sublime. They bring joy with them wherever they perform. May their blessings be endless. Thank you for this.
How did UA-cam know I wanted to see this? A soaring voice lifts the heart. Thanks.
This is the absolute pinnacle of music. Sheer divinity.
For such global jams it is technically interesting how delays are compensated so all three hear each other in sync for the performance and later mixed together to sync in audio/video.

Beginning Gives me the vibe "Saiyyare saiyyare" from Salam e ishq..
Bin tere sajneeeeee... Laaage jiyaaaa... 🤩😬😬
That blissful, understanding smile on Maestro McLaughlin’s face as he relishes the moment is just priceless. Thank you to all three Maestros.
heavenly energy flows
Amazing. Love from Tibet.
Holy smokes! Those guitar lines, that impeccable strokes on tabla and that casual yet beautiful voice. Goosebumps all over!
Pure divine experience....❤
Jimmy Herring says watch this, I watch this. No surprise - it's a beautiful work. Thank you gents for offering this to the cosmos.
The most brilliant collaboration that has ever existed, the Shakti Band.
Yessss!!!
0815 saund...🙈
The divine trinity at work…..Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh - Shankar ji. Heavenly experience. 🙏🙏🙏
Great musicians get better as they age. JM is a citizen of the world and his music is his religion.
Its make me very sad looking at ustad zakir Hussain turning older 😢
No escape from that. But his playing is still the highest of highest
No one is immortal! Aging is a process always on-going day and night....we all will be there some time someday and someone will replace us.
but his music is immortal and aging does not affect his rhythm which is what we fans would always look for
RIP maestro Zakir ❤
You are truly close to our Living God's of Music!!!
Saraswati jai!!
😇
That eternal smile of satisfaction on Maestro John’s face in the end says it all. The satisfaction that he and his loving friends have created another masterpiece. Priceless. God bless them and keep them playing forever.
Fantastic playing, the exchanges in the middle are mind blowing! Johnny Ji still on the top of Everest!
