The Bard :
DM: "It's a critical hit."
*bard casually hits nat 20 in all medicine checks*
As a bard, I can confirm that this is a mood
That's basically how I play as a bard yeah
As a bard, I. Say. Yes.
When the rest of your party is looting, the bard is luting.
👏👏👏👏👏
*slow clap*
You meant to say Fluting

I would pay actual real-life money for a full-length version of that Ievan Polkka.

Everyone needs to agree and put it in the history books that 2020 was the rebirth of classical bardcore
The Plague of 2020 birthed bardcore, how fitting.
I love this style soo much :D!
It’s one of the few good that came out of 2020
I thought Algal the Bard started it in 2017 with the Toxicity cover...
Agree
I feel like I stumbled into an alternate universe where the dark ages were the dank ages. P.S. this was great video.
Thatcracked me up so bad 😂
I just left my playlist in the past damn it
They probably should be called the dank ages, they weren't as dark as some think...with people being people since the dawn of time, I do wonder what medieval memes were like? 😂
@@tgbluewolf I mean, the dark part was used to refer to a lack of knowledge in all areas combined with the systematic destruction of knowledge in conquered areas and nations.
"Dank Ages"
I'm absolutely comfortable that going in the history books.
so medieval music meme is becoming a real thing now?
I think the name is bardcore
@@erischama1922 yes, it's been unofficially named as such in the circles
Verily, it seemeth so.
Fedora8 It feels right. Last week I wanted to hear medieval styled modern songs and this week I found so much of it I’m so happy
I mean, megalovania was an entire genre, so I wouldn't be too surprised
I felt bad for not being rickrolled in this medley.
The only disappointing thing about this! I was waiting for it the whole time!
And being someone who actually likes the song... It just doubles the sadness.
Cries in megalovania
"For thou shalt see for the biggest of richard rolls is the absence of one when one ist expected mine friend"
Richard of the house of astley. 1365
@@arminho21 I second that!
The Levan Polka legitimately sounds like something you'd hear in a tavern.
It's a Finnish folk song iirc
@@leonvwerneck1 It was originally written 1930's, then brought to fame by Finnish folk band Loituma after which it was picked up by Hatsune Miku vocaloid... thing... and now we have gotten us here. Which just proves that us Finns and the Japanese are weird. And I love it.

@@charaleet6494 Her: Yes, I do enjoy partaking in the viewing of memes. I am also of the same inclination of musical preferences as thee. The song I deem my most favored is The Meme Music Medley by Sir Algal the Bard.
Just sent them this link, no further explanation needed. Then if they don't like it, you know they're not worth it.
You: .....I like medieval remakes of modern meme themes.
Your tinder match:....I'm done here! This is the one!

I lost it at medieval "Sir Thomas The Little Carriage".

yes indeed :D
indeed you were
Because of you I'm exploring more and more awesome music, and also your play on the drums is wonderful! I like you so much! Keep going!!
I just saw the video you uploaded to UA-cam twice.
I love your channel, it lets me find other great musicians like this bard here!
There needs to be another medley of meme songs done in this style.
It should include the Trololo song, a Rickroll, Toto's Africa, and Darude Sandstorm.
I've seen a few people in the comments here also suggest *Nyanyanyanyanya! by Daniwell* (aka "the Nyan Cat song") and *Megalovania by Toby Fox* (Sans' theme from Undertale).
I've also seen another person who does medieval covers receive a request for *Caramelldansen by Caramell,* which I kind of want to hear too! ^_^
@@ChaosRayZero Medieval Marble machine?
I'faith, milord- if the bard doth not play "Yon Bird That Is Free" as his next request, me thinks that thine request is a most wise one! More mead, bar-wench! ;)
Shadilay qualifies also, although it might be seen as too political and I understand why it can be avoided
Darude Sandstorm medieval: ua-cam.com/video/GVaqimaFogQ/v-deo.html
I feel like I'm listening to an unreleased track from the witcher 3

Nah bro, needs more hurdy-gurdy.
He was a legend whispered about in the Dankest of Inns, the lands had only been scrapped the surface of the memes this man had recreated. The songs brought to a world of old, perhaps a few knew of Sax Guy The Epic, Stone Star, The X parchments. Truly a gift his presence was, never expected but always appreciated. The Bard of Memes.
Beautiful
The X Parchments? Did you mean the confidential medieval documents about the sightings of werewolves and vampires instead of UFOs? :D
the X parchments jesus christ

*Guy Sax the Epic hahaha

This sounds like something that would play in a tavern in Skyrim
Imagine you're a Viking with your wife in a tavern and a bard steals your wife with his medieval rendition of Careless Whisper
Or the Witcher 3
I'm sure someone will make a mod of this.
OrDnD,Y'knowHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhImmaShutUpNow
Please, all that belongs in a Skyrim tavern is spoken word performed by voice actors rather than singers.

That Guy, making a bard:
I stumbled upon dozen medieval covers, but this guy seems to be the only one to get the sound more or less on point with the "medieval style". All the others are the original arrangement made with different instruments on sibelius! Good job, young bard
Plus he is playing them on actual instruments and shows himself playing.
I assume most just use some MIDI or DAW magic.
@@HappyBeezerStudios Al my favourite medieval versions are played on real instruments!
When the bard in your party is a millennial.
Nai Hwong
- Will nag how the party is not so gender or racially diverse.
- While dividing the loot, will accuse the party leader of being racist and not giving "historical compensation" for the human massacres done on the Orcs, while refusing to impart her share.
- Does Yoga while crushing the patriarchy.
- Disdains cis-gendered people, calls them incels.
- Did I say she hate men?
- Will nag how animals and monsters should be treated humanely.
- Will complain about not having vegan food choices and party members being such savage meat-crazy cavemen.
- Will complain on the boondocks for not having Starbucks.
- Will complain how the party leader is such an authoritarian dictator while being petty and authoritarian herself.
- Urges her party-mates to seize the means of production.
Or gen Z
When your game setting is the medieval time but the bard is a time traveler
@@jescruz5465 Actually, that'd be Gen Z and some boomers too
@@jescruz5465 bro chill
Imagine a group of musicians transported to medieval/renaissance time and they form their merry troupe travelling all around Europe playing for different noble courts using knowledge of modern arrangements and sounds and changing the history of music forever.
The question is, would these songs have been popular back then? Tastes change. History has lots of examples of people who tried 'modern' things 'too soon' and it didn't take off.
if i'm not mistaken, musical rules back then were very strict and most of the stuff he played here wouldn't have even been considered music
Nah, i think it will be a hit between the plebs but nobles will despise it.
@@derederekat9051 Yeah, probably plebs will. Like the story with the Hurdy-Gurdy. Started as a church instrument then went to nobles liking it then passed on to women then the unwashed masses, after which, nobles didn't like it anymore. Even your common street beggar played it.
bitches bust out wonderwall and get burned at the stake
This turned the Sound Of Silence into an adventure song
Yeah but man it works
@@somuchtocook9159 Yes it does; Simon & Garfunkel were inspired by traditional folk music such as Scarborough Fair but I like Algal the Bard's version far better because it doesn't have the anti-war song mixed in!
The X-Files theme sounds so good omg. Sounds mysterious, but more in an ''exploring old cursed temples'' vibe
i would toss a coin to the bard for a playlist like this.
No joke, he just needs to clone himself 3 times and go on the street and play, lots of coins shall be tossed his way.
@@adamtwelve That even rhymed

We definitely need a part 2 on this.
Rick roll, darude gotta be included
I second this. Maybe add Robert Miles Children.
Somehow end with Eric Andre's "We'll be right back" lol
Don't forget Mmm Whatcha Say
And megalovania
Definitely. Not including Sir Richard of Astley's masterpiece feels like a huge oversight!
A modern person travels back in time. We find numerous journals of nobles and peasants alike describing this incredible music, with proof of what it looks like on paper. Modern historians then realize this was incredible memery at work. It turns out that the time traveler, out of sheer boredom, translated modern music into medieval versions and was known across all of Europe as the greatest musician ever.
And they travelled back with a flint lock pistol, becoming know simultaneously as a great musician, a mage wielding fire in their palms, and a cassinova of great infamy, all to role play as a DnD bard.
I love how medieval music is popular on UA-cam right now.
The sound of silence actually sounds like an authentic soothing tavern music
It's instrumental is a pretty old Latiamerican piece, so the arrangements fit very well with those instruments, specially the flute!! It's great!
For me, it's the hatsune miku that suits this style really well
@@oscarromeo7 that's because that was a Pollka

2:59 When the DM and the Bard start roleplaying an NPC romance
realistically, he's probably looking at sheet music, but I like to think that he's just zoning out SUPER hard after having memorized the notes
It would be pretty realistic to memorise these pieces since they're not that long and not very complicated with the articulation.
Personally, I think he has memorised them. With enough repetition, you can easily get to a point where your fingers just go into auto mode. I mean I could easily be wrong, but I remember in my high school band I got to the point with certain songs that I could watch the conductor and not even glance at the sheet music.
My unneeded 2 cents anyways.

Nobody ever said which 20's 😁😁
2:22 The Sound of Silence suddenly sounding like a traditional Portuguese folk dance song. My Portuguese genes are urging me to hold my hands in the air and stamp to the tune...
The instrumental has similar roots! It is Chilean if I remember correctly, it is called "El Condor Pasa". It was made in the late 1800s, so it still had a lot of similarities to iberic music.
@@paunaic5460 That's a different song, Simon and Garfunkel sang their version of "El Condor Pasa(If I could)" over a pre existing Los Incas track of "El Condor Pasa". The original track was recorded in the late fifties, and the head of the group was still performing in his nineties a few years ago!

You have been traveling for four days and four nights. Over the mountains that separate the settlements and villages scattered throughout the valleys, where the mountains shelter from the worst of the storms. Freezing, drenched from the downpour, muddy boots and chaps, you stagger to the Inn. With a bit of luck and a hint of charm you manage to reserve a room. With a shoddy bed awaiting your arrival upstairs, a pint of the town's finest lager requested, you hear the lads in the corner start playing their music, and you remember that time somebody once told you...
