GODDAM that CHOIR makes me WEEP. This song hardly feels like 3 minutes long. I'm in TEARS.
An amazing song. I was late to Kamasi Washington's music, but am so glad I discovered it. This song has such depth to it, and makes me think of all the amazing Black women in my family that survived racism, poverty and abuse. The song is NOT about Henrietta Lacks, as some has said, but it is about Kamasi's grandmother, who was herself an amazing woman.
I also thought this song was about Henrietta Lacks. Thanks for sharing.
I can’t seem to listen to this song without crying. There’s something really fucking powerful and transcendent about this music.
I always remember my mother´s history and actions when I hear this song. Beautiful and so strong.
I love the vocals on this one
Most powerful song I've ever heard
Can I tell you a story of a lady so meek?
Fought her battle alone with love
Had no armor, no weapon, no desire to flee
But a power so deep inside, preside to us all
I see a star, how strong it was
And still, somehow, we seem to fall
Henrietta, our hero
Shining fearless and bright
Can you see her?
Her light is here
Can I tell you a story of a lady so meek?
Fought her battle alone with love
Had no armor, no weapon, no desire to flee
But a power so deep inside, preside to us all
I see a star, how strong it was
And still, somehow, we seem to fall
Henrietta, our hero
Shining fearless and bright
Can you see her?
Her light is here
Henrietta, our hero
Shining fearless and bright
Can you see her?
Her light is here
Henrietta, our hero
Shining fearless and bright
Can you see her?
Her light is here
Epic indeed
Patrice Quinn is a goddess.
all give some, some give all
Amo este tema desde muchas perspectivas ...
Saludos de Perú!
I know this song isn't about Henrietta Lacks but about Kamasi's grandmother however the beauty of music especially jazz is that I can transpose Henrietta Lacks onto it and it's just as beautiful / truthful. Happy Birthday Henrietta Lacks I'm glad you got your way overdue justice
BEAUTIFUL!!!

Put a fork in me....I'm done
Henrietta Lacks (The Immortal Cell )
is she who he is referring to? if so, fiyah
A quick online search will let you know. "Henrietta" is about his grandmother.
That's right
My grandmother too!!
Who is/was Henrietta?
Marc A. Every time I've heard "Henrietta" in common conversation, it's in relation to Lacks, who had cells that are still used today due to special properties. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrietta_Lacks en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeLa
QualmTribes Ah yeah, that is also where a quick google search lead me. But I couldn't quite connect the dots. She isn't a hero in the conventional way, but it makes sense.
Marc A. He told me it was his grandmother, but maybe it's her. I asked him but he didn't answer.
Kevin Michalet You mean like on twitter on something?
Marc A. Yes, on twitter.
Sorry for the dislike it was me
