Too many people these days equate "different" with "wrong". Folks don't seem to realize that an opinion isn't fact, and that someone can hold a different opinion and not be a mortal enemy. So yes...accept and celebrate difference!

I love the differences we all have between us, but right now in some places, they are being used to pull everyone apart. :( The things that we have in common are all we have to hold us together right now and sometimes that needs to be pointed out. People forget, as sad as that is. Once in a while we need to be reminded and the Home Free guys did a fine job of that with this older song. Those harmonies again! Wonderful. Try their original What's the World Coming To. Thanks! ^_^

We should accept others opinions but not necessarily their beliefs. I don't accept Hitlers beliefs concerning Jews because it is wrong. The message at the end is very true; We all do have more in common than we do differences. The only differences we have is taught behavior. Not a single baby born in this world is different from another. It's what we feed their minds that makes us different. And it's mainly political and religious beliefs that separate us. Outside of that we are the same. We laugh, love, cry, mourn, grieve and breathe the same. We all bleed red and no matter the race or region, we all just want to be recognized and accepted.

I think they *are* celebrating the differences, I don't think they are discounting our delightful variety. But as far as what we have in common, I believe the key phrase is, "Lord, we pray, we make it through the day..."
Whatever our differences, we all face the same struggles, joys, & sorrows, we're all just trying to make it through the day. So we should empathize with one another, reach out to each other, smooth each others' path. Celebrate our differences, yes, but don't let them divide us.
Note that they included the pretenders & bona fide sinners, they didn't condemn or call them out. It's all part of the human condition, let's still be tolerant and caring regardless (some believers will look down on the 'sinners', but Jesus hung out with them). Whatever our beliefs, none of us always live up to our values & standards, so you could say that we are all pretenders & sinners...
But there are some attitudes and actions that *cannot* be tolerated--the haters are being called out. But the door is still open, even to them. Even without the religious imagery, they're saying the haters can choose to change. Instead of returning hate for hate, "we're praying for you, my friend". The attitude is rejected, the person is not.
Thank you for sharing this song. Enjoyed your reaction, checked out your channel, & you've got a new subscriber.

You're doubtless too young to remember John Lennon's "Power to the People" - it too has a terrific marching beat - I don't know if there ever was a video for it. I love this HF cover - the direct looks into the camera by the group and the other people really helps hammer the message home.

"Celebrate the differences" ... sounds trite to me. Politically correct rhetoric... There's no need to focus on the differences if you remember and recognize all that we have in common. In the end though, i think we're expressing the same sentiment... Be kind to each other ...

  • @Izabella907

That was a fascinating reaction. *4 times,* you skipped over the most important, most surprising, most commented-on line: "You racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots." You didn't comment on it, either. You skipped the whole verse, and when you went back, you didn't read the line - didn't say who the verse was about, didn't comment on the words, skipped the line "look at me, you can change," and didn't read any of the repetitions you read for the other verses. Near the end, you admitted, "we should celebrate our differences, *rather than trying to force people together."* Rather than, not both. Force together, not bring. It's time to say the words: Racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots. Racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots. Racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots. We're calling you out.

I understand your point that we need to rely less on being alike or becoming homogeneous but simply accept the differences. It is of course a very valid point. However, I think that due to the common physicality and needs which we all share then all other differences are much like the clothes we wear or the styles we embrace, indicative of our different pasts but not necessarily indicative of any fundamental differences. We can all do the same thing differently, service the same basic needs through different customs and mores. As we say here in the US....there's more than one way to skin a cat(fish).
Race, religion, ethnic customs are all a very thin veneer that compared to common needs and even inherient fears wane in importance to me.
I agree that the Jesus Christ, Lord, and to a lesser degree 'pray' references can be off putting to folks of different convictions. Not sure if the song writer just wanted to speak to a specific group of folks that he felt might only respond if he phrased it in terms of their faith or if he has deep religious convictions. I could see it not pleasing a lot of folks. I guess I look at it like a wholesome direct plea to a large group of folks who may need to hear it.
Anyway, thanks for the reaction and review. Sorry if it hurt more than helped,. Keep up the good work and keep, as Tyle Childers says, 'your nose on the grindstone'.....you have a great channel going.

I think the original songwriter was coming from a Christian perspective, but that can mean a lot of things too, just looking at all the denominations and splits and you know that Christians have a lot of differing beliefs and perspectives. It seems the original songwriter was coming from an angle of Christianity that wants to protect the vulnerable and call to task those who do not.

I am an avid fan of Home Free! This was a powerful video and message! They actually try to promote unity, diversity, and acceptance through their music. I get where you coming from that not everyone may not be together. Sadly, there are truly evil and disturbed people out there. I’m sure they’re aware of that, but for the most part, it would be nice if things were like they used to be, whereas, like you said, people would be friendlier and more cheerful like it was when I was younger. Thank you for covering, and for listening to the message at the end. I love that you are engaging with it thoughtfully, and I agree that respecting differences is important. It's just that for me the problems so often come when people won't see what we have in common, won't see other people as fully human - because if you really see and feel what you have in common you can see that the differences aren't a reason for treating people badly. I can see why the religious language wouldn't work as well if that isn't your belief system, but honestly, I think the most important point in that verse is - I'm calling out your bad behaviour, it's not acceptable, but I'm still going to call you friend and you can change - I learnt better and you can too.
I must admit I do think choosing to cover a song like this - which isn't particularly well-known, it's not about attracting fans of the original - is just as much of a creative decision as picking a song brought to you by a song-writer, that happens not to have been recorded before, but I know I'm biased. If you're looking for the more thoughtful originals from Home Free, try Remember This and What's The World Coming To.

Nice reaction to this cover. I've never heard this version before, but it was nice. I still prefer the original but I'm a huge fan of Paul Cauthen so that only makes sense. Lol. Your thoughts were good. I think it's very important to see the differences in each other and accepting and celebrating those differences. Amongst all the ugly in the world, that is part of the beauty.
What I always got from Paul and his lyrics in this song, is that he is speaking to a specific group of people, church people. He's from East Texas, which is heavily a part of what we call the Bible belt. In the Christian church, there is a major problem with bigotry and judgemental people. It's even more evident in today's climate. He's calling them out, saying that we've got to come together and accept everybody walking this land, despite them being different from us. He's letting them know, that he is praying for them. Not the people that are different from him, but the people in the church that have this problem. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I've always gotten from it. Paul was a church kid, raised up in the church. He is all about loving others and just being a good person. Not all of his songs are like this. He's got so many party tune. Cocaine Country Dancing is MY JAM🤣 I'm so excited about you reacting to him. His voice is STELLAR. He's a crazy good performer too.

I don’t think you got the point they were trying to make. I didn’t take from their statement at the end that you should “force” anything. I took from this that they basically made the same point you were trying to make. We are all different but we are also very similar. We are human beings. It doesn’t matter what color, religion (or lack there of), sexual orientation, we are all humans. We want to be loved, respected, and accepted. What we should all do is try to be kind to each other. Just because I may not have the same skin color or beliefs as the person next to me, that doesn’t make them less than me or vice versa. When you start taking exception to someone being different, that when you start down the slope of bigotry. Personally, I wouldn’t want everyone to be exactly like me. I think it would be boring and likely annoying.

  • @maryel5398
    @maryel5398 4 роки тому +1

Unfortunately, I don’t believe all our differences are caused by ignorance. I absolutely believe some people are just plain mean, hateful, and do their best to make sure everyone NOT like them has a worse life.
I don’t necessarily think the “pray” part is as much “religious” as much as “feel for.” I think the idea of sin differs depending on what someone believes, and how they think their “god” reacts to that, and whether that meets their own selfish beliefs.
