    Just a very informative and clear presentation… Well done guys! Looks like my exact same engine out of a ‘95. I need to get my tools together because about this time next year will be doing the same. Appreciate your nice clean environment and bright lighting that makes it easy to see details. Thanks much!

    just saw the video... damned!! you guys are doing a great great job. I'm not a mechanic guy but I wish I could do this on my 993. Greetings from Europe

    Something to mention are the differences between the intake and exhaust rockers and that they cannot be interchanged.

    So my tools all arrived today so tomorrow, hopefully will be doing what you guys just did on my 1996 993 C2 6speed. It looks so easy when you guys do it. I have the same tools (except the stromski tool to double check my work. However I'll let my shop do that. Will post on my Green Hornet Project on fb.

    Great videos! Just stumbled across these and am now subscribed. Please keep more air cooled stuff coming. Maybe something with finishing up dressing the motor once your done with the cams and timing?

      Thank you for the feedback! We have 2 motors that we are completely dressing up soon. Everything should be back from plating and powder coating soon. We'll see if we can fit a video in the process!

    14:15 I see you are using the 964 cam gears in the 993 and pin for locating the cam gear to the cam using the woodruffe key and smaller sprocket. The Porsche original 1995 993 cam sprockets are flush with the cam and the bolt simply holds the assembly together. Luckily my earlier 993 cams had the woodruffe key cut-out and I switched to the 964 system. You are using the same Stomski setup I am using.

    Life saver video! So good, thanks. I'm doing topend rebuild of my 993. Will get the factory tools now. Can I ask why Porsche say special bolts for cam back end tools? Surely normal bolts OK? Thanks again guys.. Great channel! Love the definition of turbo lag as well! 😆

      No special bolts needed!

    I have a question on a part you did not show in the video.
    The timing chain covers seals and bolts grommets. Do they need to be coated with loctite574 or it will leak ?

    • @Olsenspec
      @Olsenspec  5 місяців тому +1

      Put them in dry!

    I noticed you torqued down the chain boxes without the cam placed in. Does that matter? I have my cams in and chains on them. However I have not torqued the chain boxes onto the engine. Everything is loose. Do I need to remove the cams and then tighten the chain boxes?

    Great video!
    I do have a question, you didn’t measuring the hydraulic lifters and check the valve lash. As you know PORSCHE has three different size hydraulic lifter. Standard, size 1 : 0.5mm shorter. Size 2 :1.0mm shorter. So what did you use and why didn’t you show us how to measure while doing this build? Thank you in advance.

    • @Olsenspec
      @Olsenspec  2 роки тому

      Thank you for the note! This motor was inspected when we tore it down and everything was kept to factory specifications. We will do the lifter procedure in another video. Typically if we are doing different camshafts or a high performance engine that is 993 based we switch to mechanical lifters

    Thank you so much for this video, can you give me the tool parts number to do the same job please? Im sad that you dont change valve spring to show us the right way to do it without removing the cam tower .. Best very helpful video, just need tool part number please 🙏

      @@Olsenspec Thank you very much.. Do you know if you are planning to make a video to show how to install performance valve string without removing the cam tower?because generally people change valve spring when they add new performance cam..I dont find any video like this on internet.

    • @Olsenspec
      @Olsenspec  2 роки тому

      @@drnc8770 we have not yet found a solution because the access to the valve is tight on a 911. On an OHV motor it is much easier, however we do not deal with those (like a 944, 928)

    What do you think of the woodruff key, cam flange setup? I k now the late 993s dont have them but what's your take, good or bad?

    • @Olsenspec
      @Olsenspec  2 роки тому +1

      Never had an issue with them? I always feel with the 993's "I hope it holds" as it isnt pinned 😂 but we prefer the peace of mind the earlier models had.

    • @ocmacman17
      @ocmacman17 2 роки тому

      @@Olsenspec I have heard that a lot from other builders. So can I just add those components to my cam setup without anything not fitting properly? I have the two cam flanges and the two woodruff keys. Bought them off eBay. I don't have the spacers though.

      I switched from the flush mounted cam sprockets on my 993 to the 964 cam sprockets. My cams had the woodruffe key slots.
