    Great episode, thanks Mike. It makes you wonder how they did all this on an assembly line, with tight time constraints 😳

      Hello Matthew
      Im sure they had some jigs and processes to cut to the chase.
      All new parts and constancy would be a big help for sure!
      Cheers

    The heavy duplex chains in the engine block are striking. Each chain only needs to "operate" three cylinders. I had a Mercedes C class Compressor. A chain was mounted in it, which looked more like a bicycle chain. Of course, such a chain stretches, with all its consequences. Great Job. Where do you get that patience from? You must be in Zen.

      @@MikesRestorations OSHO; try to be in your circle. There's no other way, your spirit must be in the Porsche.
      Take your President Biden and his administration to a temple. Perhaps they will come to their senses. We in Europe are stuck with a (almost) 3rd world war.

      @@Freba66 I hear you Fred..It's terrible what's going on. The leaders of the world are absolutely destroying this planet. How the heck do these knuckle heads get to be so popular and get to be the leaders. It's one of the great mysteries of our time.. and so many of them OMG!
      Good luck over there Fred, Its already lost here!

      @@MikesRestorations "Not the result is important, but the way to it". I read and watch a lot of videos on UA-cam of former (high) soldiers of the US. I am pleased that there are many of those who are in favor of peace and are speaking out on this. This is the most turbulent time in history. Millions of people on the run because of war violence. Europe is flooded with Middle Eastern people, no future; no control over their own resources etc.etc. But I continue to enjoy your art. Too bad you live so far away......... When I was 22 years old I drove the most beautiful 356 A 1960 of Amsterdam-Netherlands. Because my wife got pregnant, sold for the then ridiculous price of 2175 florins, then $500. Where's my time machine, hahahah

      @@MikesRestorations I have a side door and two patches to do to get my old van watertight. I never expected it to take SO long. Hello, great series, been watching from the beginning. I have a question, can the left right idler pulleys be adjusted by a half, opposite direction, to get equal numbers on each side?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  Рік тому +2

      Hello Bob, Wow thanks for your longtime dedication.
      The cam timing process on these cars is pretty much as we went over here. It's not uncommon for both sides to be off to some small degree. Also the amount in deviation is also so small as long as everything else has been performed correctly it would be negligible on the overall performance. I would be willing to bet most cam timing arrangements on these early cars either done at the factory or by a later mechanic are off by some small degree.
      Getting as close as we can is really all we can do.
      Cheers!

    How would you hold the crankshaft in place on a later engine that has the newer style cam nuts? The ends of the cams are round.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  Рік тому

      Hello Cevan, Im not that familiar with the later stile of camshaft tuning. From what I know there is a crank lock that is used on some of them to hold everything TDC.I would recommend giving Kurt at Klassik Automotive Training School a shout.
      He for sure could give you the correct process and tooling needed.
      Good Luck!

    Can the cam timing be checked without removing the timing chain covers? If so what would be an indication that the cams are timed correctly?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  Рік тому

      Hello bwj
      Cam timing should be performed with covers off. Yo will need to be able to verify cam location as they relate to TDC on compression stroke..It's easy to get lost!
      Good Luck!
