The heavy duplex chains in the engine block are striking. Each chain only needs to "operate" three cylinders. I had a Mercedes C class Compressor. A chain was mounted in it, which looked more like a bicycle chain. Of course, such a chain stretches, with all its consequences. Great Job. Where do you get that patience from? You must be in Zen.
Thanks Fred,,haha that's funny Actually I have 15 years back ground in martial arts training and have spent extensive time Japan and China visiting various temples., Including the great Shaolin Temple I have even had the pleasure of meeting the Abbott=) Cheers!

Hello, great series, been watching from the beginning. I have a question, can the left right idler pulleys be adjusted by a half, opposite direction, to get equal numbers on each side?
Hello Bob, Wow thanks for your longtime dedication. The cam timing process on these cars is pretty much as we went over here. It's not uncommon for both sides to be off to some small degree. Also the amount in deviation is also so small as long as everything else has been performed correctly it would be negligible on the overall performance. I would be willing to bet most cam timing arrangements on these early cars either done at the factory or by a later mechanic are off by some small degree. Getting as close as we can is really all we can do. Cheers!
Hello Cevan, Im not that familiar with the later stile of camshaft tuning. From what I know there is a crank lock that is used on some of them to hold everything TDC.I would recommend giving Kurt at Klassik Automotive Training School a shout. He for sure could give you the correct process and tooling needed. Good Luck!
Hello bwj Cam timing should be performed with covers off. Yo will need to be able to verify cam location as they relate to TDC on compression stroke..It's easy to get lost! Good Luck!
THANK YOU for teaching this. I have been waiting to learn this as I have to do my engine next week!!
You are very welcome
Wishing you the best of luck with your cam timing!
Great episode, thanks Mike. It makes you wonder how they did all this on an assembly line, with tight time constraints 😳
Hello Matthew
Im sure they had some jigs and processes to cut to the chase.
All new parts and constancy would be a big help for sure!
Cheers
Learning stuff in every video - thanks for sharing your finds and knowledge!
You are very welcome Annoo
Its been a pleasure sharing this historic automobile
Cheers!
Thank you Mike very well explained
You're welcome Nick! Hopefully it will make things easier.. Cam Timing is a challenge
Cheers!

Yes we are so close!!=)

Mike you are an artist and you engine is a work of art. Are you going to drive it?
Thank you Dad for the kind words
Yes I absolutely will be driving it as it is really best to keep them in motion to some degree

How would you hold the crankshaft in place on a later engine that has the newer style cam nuts? The ends of the cams are round.

Can the cam timing be checked without removing the timing chain covers? If so what would be an indication that the cams are timed correctly?
