First! What a beautiful video! Loved every second of it. The boxes look fantastic and the facts about them made it very enjoyable. And I have to say - your video quality is amazing! Thanks for posting!
Really awesome video, I've been trying to figure out how to make these boxes for months. I haven't been able to find a metal trough long enough to boil the wood so it's great to know I can just steam the wood and still get good bends!
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed the video. Yeh bending the wood in plastic bags worked really well take a look at the UA-cam channel Tips from the shipwright he bends wood for the keels of boats in long plastic bags
Steve, I enjoyed your video presentation on the Shaker boxes. It looks like you have a nice woodworking shop to make them in. I have been wanting to make a few of those boxes but I lack the trays. I have been wondering how effective steam bending would be. Now I have my answer. Thanks!
Nice work, Steve. I, too, have wanted to make some Shaker boxes for decades. I bought several when I visited the Shaker communities in New England several years ago. In addition to pine and cherry, they used maple. I recently found the 3NM podcast and am working through the catalog. I hope that we see more videos from you on YT. I think it would be great if you told some stories during the videos like you do during the podcast. As a retired engineer, I appreciate your take on life. Take care, from Houston, Texas, USA.
Thank you so much Elaine, I’m glad you enjoyed the video, you should try to make some Shaker boxes I would love to see them. I’m so glad your listening to the TNM Podcast and hope your enjoying it. I’ve just started to make my next video and wanted to include a story type thing in the video as well as building something so I hope you like it. Take care and once again thank you
Very nice work Steve. Good amount of explanation and great video work to show the challenging parts. You will go far on UA-cam. Would be interested in a video of your Adjustable strip cutting jig. It seems to work very well. Trying to guess your accent. Canadian? LOL! Kidding, northern England? Keep up the good work. Cheers mate
Very nicely done Steve, it's a really nice pace of narration through the project. You're being very hard on yourself at the end, you need to go and watch Pierre's video about the Creator's Curse. Those lids fitted beautifully. 👍
Beautiful work! Does Dad do apprenticeships? I’m returning to England in a few months - whereabouts? PS does it need to be that big if it makes such small tortillas? 😅
Hi Steve, Dan from Pennsylvania in the US here, when you say copper tacks would that also be considered a rivet ? I’ve seen these boxes and never thought twice about and now I suddenly have a desire to build some , I don’t know why ! lol thanks for the tutorial! Edit: Just found a website here and I see they are actually tacks, so are just clenching them ?
One more thing, if you join the Shakers now doubt they’ll let you build boxes ! That’s the advantage of joining a cult that are celibate and running out of members !
Hi Daniel yes the are tacks that when hammered against the pipe the tip flattens acting like a rivet in a way. I’d always wanted to to try and make some as you don’t see many in the uk. I think you can buy them easily in the US. Thanks for watching and yes thanks for the warning
Just made three one with a handle for a peg box much classier than a old ice cream box the ash bent really nicely
Fantastic yeh much better than an ice cream tub!

Nice job Steve. Bit worried about no riving knife on your bench saw and leaning over that blade though.

I’m pretty impressed with that plane not eating up the thin strips. We’re they attached with double sided tape?
Thanks yes I used double sided tape it’s something I do regularly with thin strips no problem so far
I wondered the same thing!

Really nice video Steve!
In Sweden they are called ”svepask” and are traditionally joined together with birch root.
Thank you for the video.
Thanks so much Roland I hope your going to make some svepask
They look great and would look just right in my troglodyte kitchen
Thanks Joyce glad you liked the video x

Thanks very much. I’m not sure about the size I looked at a few and they where about 30cm square it you could make it any size you like
Love your work . Can you help? no one seams to talk about copper tacks , where to get them and size in the US.
