A hallmark film is being shot in my hometown and the AD reached out to the theatre department at my college for PAs and now I’m going to be stepping on to a film set for the first time ever in a few days. 😅 I’m just a sophomore and a theatre major at that, but I’m really excited. I’m also more than a bit nervous but these videos have helped a lot!
Another great vid Amber! My only recommendation is maybe change color of your bg, you are really blending into it.Or a colored gel hairlight? Really good info about PAs.
First off, Dan is hilarious in this video! Anyway, super helpful content, especially the jargon and roles. I’m new to all this and about to go to PA Bootcamp in LA this weekend (on your recommendation in a past video!) I’m sure I’ll start as an additional PA once things open up here. My aspirations are to be a Set Decorator, so if there is a PA specifically for the art department video you can do that would be awesome. I hear that I should get into the art department but not really sure how to map that out.
Right?! Dan is the best! Thx! I hope you like the PA boot camp. Lmk how it goes! Yea if you're working on indie sets your work in the art department and gain a ton of experience! When you get on set as a PA start talking to the art folk. Of you're on a union set that props, set dressing are the peeps you want to talk to. If you want to be a production designer all the above will help you on that path.
It's just when you are with the police and they are there blocking or directing traffic away from where you're shooting. That's in NYC but in different states they call it different things. Thanks for asking that!
Hi amber. Local zero heroes was mentioned a couple times. It is based in NYC. I live in phoenix, AZ and was wondering if there was a similar group in my area?
Local zero has loads of posts for jobs all over. But there's an LA one I believe as well. That might have more for your area. But why not just do a quick Facebook search involving your areas. There's got to be something.
One more question, when you talk about working with gaffing vans, do you mean having to drive them or just making sure those who do, get in the right one?

hey amber, life saver with this video. What's a TCD lockup?

I dont know if you have done a video on this but could you talk about being a post production pa?
Im trying to get other department video ideas together now. Im hoping to get Post production as well.
@@BeyondFilmSchool thank you❤
One more question, when you talk about working with gaffing vans, do you mean having to drive them or just making sure those who do, get in the right one?
No not drive them. You're taking note of where the vans goes, confirming with the driver, and making sure the right ppl are on the right van.
Thank you beauty!
No problem 😊
Sorry I have a dumb question...
You mentionted cofee runs, do PA get back the money they spent on everyone's cofee?
They're usually getting it from crafty or given a card to use. If anyone asks 6ou front the money... Make every excuse not too. Lol
Annnnd there's def no dumb questions. You don't know what you don't know 😁
@@BeyondFilmSchool true! Thank you for your answers🙏
What's the normal pay for an additional PA?
It's usually minimum wage. In NYC that's $15/hr
Do you get paid for being a PA
In most cases yes!
@@BeyondFilmSchool oh okay
@@BeyondFilmSchool is it hourly or daily
Usually daily
Is it just me or the audio and video images are off track?
It's UA-cam conspiring against me lol
Refresh
Its crazy how you need PA but they pay them the lowest smh terrible
It truly is!
