@@nellosnook4454 I've lost 18 pounds in 2 months of alternate day fasting. I'm going to shake it up just a bit to a 40 hour fast, followed by an 8 hour eating window, and see how that does over the next month. So start eating at 10am, finish by 6 then fast 40 hours. I always feel great up until the 44 to 48 hour mark so I think this will be sustainable. I have about 82 pounds of fat so I don't see a downside.

      Excellent, Rick! 👍
You are spot on with the 40/8 Fasting/Feeding ADF.
That’s what I am currently doing.
I need to follow-up with Aimee too about providing enough feeding time to consume sufficient nutrition to sustain your caloric minimums during these cycles.
After I posted progressing to a 44/4 ADF, I was rightly chastised by another commenter that I was at risk of losing muscle mass with that strict a feeding window.
So with an active lifestyle, prioritize consuming sufficient nutrition over keeping to a strict schedule.
The plan serves us-we don’t serve the plan.
      Thanks for checking-in, Rick!
      All the best! 👍

What I have been doing is also listening to videos/podcasts of Dr. Jason Fung and Megan Ramos to supplement Thomas's insights. There's a reason he cites Dr. Fung a lot. Fung and Ramos deal more with the health benefits of IF as wellvas weight loss. There are good differences to their insights as well because they do this from a medical pov. If you have health issues, like diabetes, I would recommend listening to Dr. Fung and Megan Ramos. They might give you ideas as to why your 48 hour fasts don't work. One thing they mention is to be very careful doing fasts while on medication.

I had my 75 year old type 2 diabetic mom on a 16/8 IF, reduced her carbs, restricted refined sugars, and increased her fats a little for 6 months. Despite her age, she’s very active, can hold long and interesting conversations about decades ago, drives an automobile, and can care for herself. She dropped a lot of weight and her doctor took her off the diabetic medication. Her doctor told her to keep doing whatever she was doing. She never told him she was fasting because she knew he’d try to discourage her. She’s really considering the extended fasting. I’m so proud of her. I’m a firm believer of this.

You’re doing ADF, which I love too. I’ve tried all windows of IF, including OMAD, but the sweet spot for me was Alternate Day Fasting. I’m an all or nothing person and eating every other day works for me. I don’t do Keto, I basically just eat what I want. My husband likes sweets and other unhealthy snack foods, so when he brings home the Haagen Daz chocolate covered ice cream with almond (sticks) or Dr. Pepper sodas, I often succumb to them. On my “feed” day, I don’t restrict myself and I still lost 7lbs in 4 weeks. The last week or so, I’ve been trying to ease into Keto, do ACV and cut out the sugary juices , ice cream and sodas. Also stopped eating chips and other junky stuff. Not sure if I can do full-blown Keto, but my carbs and junk foods will be kept at minimum. Looking forward to going from size 12 to my usual size of 4/6.

I'm 108 hrs into a 120 hr fast and I feel amazing! I'm truly not hungry. I'm having coffee with mct oil and that stuff is amazing and makes the fasting so much easier. I get a teeny bit hungry once in a while but can easily ignore by drinking water or something. I'm trying to get below 200lbs and I'm at 210 as of the other day so I'm doing this fast to see how much I can lose. Most of my hunger or desire for food is just missing the taste of food...not true hunger at all. I want to break the habit of eating 'just because' and fasting is really helping in so many ways. I'll never stop fasting...it is life-changing for me. I'm 66 years old and female and have had no problem losing weight this way at all.

I'm used to it now, (I usually skip eating Monday) and I feel like it's a kind of "reset" that I need on a weekly basis. Every week I say I'm going to go to the third day but then I rationalize that I'm at least being consistent and that 36 hours is just enough. Did 2 36 hour fasts this week with relative ease. Imma do this 3 times a week & with bodybuilding & conditioning, I'm hoping to get in a lean conditioned physique by the end of the year.
EDIT 1: For anyone who wants to know, I've gone from a 40 inch waist to a 38, can see visible abs (only top 4 & side obliques coming through) and I'm still eating crap food on my eating days, such as frozen pizza, ice cream, crisps... but I'm still hitting my 200g of protein. Honestly, best diet I've ever been on. Flexible diet didn't work too well for me, keto was great but hard to maintain & high carb, low carb, no carb was effective too but atm this 3 day 36 hour + fasting is working wonders! Just need to get rid of the rest of the junk food & my fat will literally incinerate away!
Edit 2: I have done 3 36 hour fasts till early May. The fat loss has been insane. I have very visible abs, but the mid section is still undefined. I'm 36 inch waist and was able to maintain a good amount of muscle during this time period. My performance in the gym was OK at best, but If it wasn't for a high amount of caffeine I wouldn't of been able to perform well. My muscles feel more dence but not as pumped as they usually are. Overall I dropped a serious amount of fat in 4 months. I recommend this diet for a short time period, to remove some stubborn fat. I'm no longer continuing this diet as its too demanding with the bodybuilding. I'm now cycling back to my high protien, low carb diet, as I need protein to build/maintain my mass.
I only used termopure from myprotien on fasting days as its a thermogenesis supplement, I think it made a solid amount of difference, especially with caffeine being a appetite suppressor. Any questions please ask an il try to get back to you ASAP!

I workout Mon/Wed/Friday mornings, which means I am well fed for my Mon & Wed workout and I get a fasted workout on Fridays. I also use 16/8 IF on my non-fasting days.

    Hi Thomas!
I have been fasting for one year now, on may 2020, I started IF, but the hunger went away and I started prolonged fasting, first for 3 days, then 5 days for a month, then 12 days, 12 days and 21 days, lost 30 kilos in 2 1/2 months , after refeed and some days later I gained 7 kilos. I started 2-3 days of fasting for 2 months, i was 143 kilos when I started, and I’m 6’2, I went down to 106 kilos, but I gained weight right away 7 kilos after I went back eating and 5 more in 6 months, even though I did keto and IF almost everyday, some months I go for 5 days or 10 days of prolonged fasting, I have been doing 18 hr IF and lifting weights right before my first meal and I have gain lots of muscle I asume due to the HGH in the 18 hr fast, but 2 months ago I’ve notice that I am gaining weight even though I’m doing 2 days water fast every week and eating around 2000 cal, because my stomach can take any more food, some times I do 1 meal and a bullet proof coffee, because it’s too much food.
I have done 170 days of water fast in 400 days in total, and taking my electrolytes and teas (ginger, turmeric, green and black teas, etc).
In this last 2 months I’ve gained 2 inches in my stomach, doing everything right, now I move to eating my 3 meals a day and trying to eat 3000 calories a day to see if I lowered my BMR of too much fasting, I hope I start seeing some results, I think my body is storing everything I eat in my belly as a distribution center.
Do you have any thoughts ?
I recently did a 10 day water fast and only lost 1.5 kilos after refeeding, that’s why I am concern ! And some weeks not eating for 2 days and gaining weight in those weeks!
Hope you can read this post and give me your feedback, thanks

I'm doing intermittent fasting and just a couple of weeks ago upped to a 14 fast. I can't do extended fasts, just like I can't eliminate starches and go full keto. I want to they these things for tge benifits, but I get nasty glucose drops and that triggers a severe migraine that could get me a trip to the er because of extreme nausea from the level of pain. If others can do these things, great and more power to u. I've got pretty bad hypoglycemia from hoshimotoes so I have to do more of a balancing act to get healthy. Portion control, nutrient dense foods, daily doses of home made probiotics, intermittent fasting, and no more than 3-4 consecutive days of full keto meals seem to be things that work without negative impacts for me. Also, moderating my starch intake is helping. My progress over the past 14 months has been slow, but has sped up starting at the 8 month mark. Let's just say I went from over 250 pounds and in-between a 2 and 3x in womens clothes, and a size 22-24 USA size pant, to having to take in clothes to avoid buying new ones. Thank goodness my mom taught me how to use a needle and thread at age 6. Can't use a sewing machine to save my life, and my sewing skills are basic at best, but it works. Keeps clothes on my back and allows me to alter or mend clothes as needed. It may not look pretty, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Fixed income can be one he'll of a bitch as a single mom. I'd rather spend my money replacing my sons outgrown clothes and worn out things and pay bills than buy myself new things. Honestly, I kinda like keeping busy finlxing things myself and finding ways to save money as much as I can.

@@smayr9392 Its kind of hard to explain: I can see them moving…it’s like an electrical impulse. No pain or anything. It’s been an ongoing thing and quite worrisome. But I finally figured out that it’s electrolyte related (duh, since it was like an electrical impulse) and I need to get the right amt. of potassium, magnesium and calcium. It will probably be different for you though, we all have different issues. I used to have really bad body odor and when I started using magnesium oil in my armpits, ( that I put in the soles of my feet at night) it went away 100%.
When I was getting enough magnesium and potassium, I was still getting some tightness in my chest (not severe) and that’s when I figured out the calcium. I MUST eat some dairy, my body suffers without it. Usually that’s cottage cheese (great brand: Good Culture) or yogurt.
I’m not really doing KETO or IF anymore, rather, I’m going by my Ayurvedic type and I’m doing much, much better, losing weight, sleeping well etc. However, I’m still very careful about carbs and I do “intuitive” fasting instead. Just fasting when I feel that I need it. It’s working much much better for me and I highly recommend it. It’s less than 9 min and talks about specifically about glucose and it’s specific functions.

muscle catabolism goes down the longer u fast not up, the first 24hrs is when the most muscle breakdown happens.

    Hi Thomas,
Caught some of your videos and decided to start living the keto lifestyle. This is just day 2, but so far so good. I've got a way to go I'm starting at 365 lbs. I'm wanting to get down to around 220 lbs. I know it will take some time, but I didn't gain it over night either. I get gout often. Could you do a video on keto and gout?

How did it go? I've done keto and IF for 3 months. 11kg down. Began 16:8, then 18:6, then 20:4, then Omad, and now trying 36h.

I couldn't do keto but this seems more doable once a week. Just did it once, we'll see how it goes as I try it out for a few months. Couldn't do 48 but 36 must be good enough

I'm on a IDHM Diet. " I don't have money " diet. It's been working since I've lost 23 lbs this past month. Have fasted 110 hours one week and am on my 73rd hour ATM.

Thanks for the video. Am doing my first 36 hour fast today. I am surprised how I am speeding through it, considering not so long ago I was a dirty sugar addict!!

I just did a 36 hour fast and it was easier than an 18 IF fast. But, I am not sure I need to do it since I want to lose weight slowly....

I just did 36, I just want to throw a few things out there from my personal experience. I feel noticeable dizziness and weakness. As I kind of guessed, my limbs were particularly tingly and asleep when I woke up this morning. The reason I did it was because I was having problems with digestion and inflammation and I think it is has helped my digestive system, all the way from my rear to my teeth to rest a day and two sleeps, so that was the goal. I may do this once a month, but I feel it is kind of at the expense of other body systems. I feel it may also have helped my cognition a bit, as I had vivid dreams and my head feels a little less heavy if that makes sense, but maybe that's reduced oxygen. I dreamed I was fighting a bear with a sharpened pool stick and killed it and also was at a party on a boat, so not really bad dreams. I do heavy physical activity every day. Usually walking around 15 miles, 60 pushups, 120 sit ups, 25 bicycles, and 25 leg lifts was just a typical day for me but I do different exercises along with the walking. My 36 hour fast is a little gift to my digestion, but if I wanted to care for other body systems I would probably engage in other rituals. Now for some eggs, fruit and pecan pancakes 😋

I've been on Keto for about 6 months. I've lost 35lbs (now 168 @ 6'1") in that time frame and many people have commented on the loss and says it looks good. I don't do many fasts but when I do, when I hit about 60 hours I hit a wall hard. Loss of energy, foggy thinking, hunger sets in, the works. Last time it happened my Blood Glucose was 86 and my Ketones were 4.4. I've heard one on keto is supposed to feel "real good" past 48 hours, why do I feel like shit past 48. BTW, I am also a type 2 diabetic.

It improves your tastebuds. My experience is when you follow Keto and fast my tastebuds can pick up sweetness from veggies I never thought sweet. And the ones with with a little sweetness like carrots, peppers...they become like candy.

@wnc817 Sad. Close friend and family say they noticed the same thing with things tasting much better after doing a fast. And I've experienced it for myself. It's like my sense of smell and taste are much much stronger. Even Salt alone tastes incredible.

It's crazy, I used to be one of those guys who used 7/8 spices and seasonings on my meat. After a fast, salt and pepper tastes like the best thing I've ever eaten
