One of the biggest divides that exists in our automotive culture is the split between the Rat Rod aesthetic and “show ready” hot rod. This is a classic truck that melds both styles into what is a great example of taste-compromise. For those who like a rugged, weathered, and scavenged exterior while maintaining a formidable drivetrain and handling setup this ’47 Ford Pickup aka “Deliverance” is a great place to start if you’re looking for some inspiration. “Deliverance” was built by an experienced Winston Cup race car builder. Just to give those reluctant to appreciate a rat rod some perspective, we thought it was worth highlighting that fun fact. Enthusiasts come from all spectrums of life and all brackets of society. It is a taste and more specifically an aesthetic preference which is sometimes governed by finance and coming from a situation where resources are scarce, while at other times you have those who pay to weather a car on purpose. That in of itself is another conversation for another article - the integrity of a car style and what values comprise that.
Getting back on track, “Deliverance” was completed in March of 2012. Since then, its road worthiness has been tested serving as a hard cruiser, hitting highways at 75-80 mph and being thrown into heavy traffic situations. The truck was also used on the new album cover of the Honeysuckle Ridge Band with Jody Lee and has also been featured in Hot Rod, just to name a few of its recent credentials.
The frame was hand-built with a 4-link suspension and double-adjustable shocks. The hood is a lift-off with three pins and the taillights are ’40 Ford replicas. The rear wheels are Valken polished aluminum with Hoosier Pro Street 31×18.5R156LTs.”
“Deliverance” boasts an impressive list of aftermarket performance parts as well. Check it out:
    • Chevy 454 Big-Block with a Crane Thumper Cam and Weiand Tunnel Ram Intake
    • Dual Holley 750 Double Pumpers
    • MSD Distributor/MSD HVC Ignition
    • Fluidyne Aluminum Race Radiator
    • Trac-9 Rear End/Tru-Trac Locker
    • Saginaw 3-Speed Trans
    • 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
    • Custom Built Steel Wall Tubing Frame
    • Rear 4-Link Setup with AFCO Double Adjust Shocks
    • Wide 5 Hubs/Valken Polished Wheels
    • Hoosier Pro Street 31×18.5R15s
    • AFCO Double Adjustable Shocks
    • Copper over Wood Custom Floor
    • Body Sanded & Sealed
    • ’40 Ford Replica Taillights
The next time a rat rod pulls up, negative first impressions might not do the reality justice. “Deliverance” is a great definition of a sleeper, and we are always thrilled to come across builds like this as much as we are when we see a clean street rod, a heavily customized sled, or a show-ready luxury liner.
