I hip carry because I was a LEO for 33 years, now retired, and on or off duty my instinctive draw is from the hip. I actually carry just behind my hip and have been for 35 years with no problem as far as comfort. I also practice one handed draw, using my thumb to clear my shirt from the draw, and can produce the same results as many of my friends who carry appendix and use their secondary hand to lift their garment out of the way in order to draw. I like the idea of having a free hand in the event I am defending myself from up close while drawing. One of the drills I like to do is step, draw, and shoot. On a private range, it may be steps, but I'm moving off the X while drawing and shooting on the move. Welcome back Mike.

I have carried a long time and have had issues printing and my garment riding up. It’s bound to happen until you figure out what holster and what garment is best to cover the holster. I carried in the three o’clock position for so long that muscle memory was always the factor. You will probably need to experiment with holster, belt and garment to figure out what is best for you.

There's a 4th way that I wish more people would consider and it would be good if you could talk about this too. I have carried this way for decades, safely and successfully. (And saved my butt once or twice in the process). And yes, I totally understand that some ranges don't allow it in "formal" shooting but in the "real world" it is safe and very quick and very effective. It's the "cross-draw". Some people call it "weak side". Why I cannot fathom. For me it is "strong side". With normal outside carry you have to sweep your jacket back with the SAME hand that needs to grab the gun. And if it's inside some "robust" winter clothing this WILL slow you down. With "cross-draw" I can rip away whatever clothing I have in the way with my "weak" hand and with my strong grab my firearm directly and very quickly and deploy it in an instant! I DON"T sweep when I'm doing it. I draw it vertically initially and then punch it forwards, as I'm very aware of bystanders in a "real world" scenario. When tested in the past I was able to outperform the so called "strong side" guys every time. Also, this position is way more effective if you're a biker, or in your car, or sitting down! Either way the hand grip is always positioned comfortably and easy to grab exactly where you need it. With "strong side" it hangs down the wrong way and you're going to be slower. It's just physics...
Actually for a righty for example, if I just go from 12 over to the 11 or left my support side, I am cross drawing (like I believe you said) & it works sitting, or you can stand & shift it if necessary, but that slight shift off centerline basically is a cross draw...."say when" Doc Holliday... right 😆 watch Tombstone for reference
It's a slightly modified AIWB, cross draw, just barely noticeable... because I do prefer Appendix, for one it's way easier to protect, anywhere else can be seen in store line or whatever, AIWB is very covert, you always have eyes on eyes, & can fight, maneuver, & just works alot better, now go to vehicle & shift over 2 inches, makes life easier... I've also had injury from accident, made me play with it a little..
I carry a rotation of 3 guns and carry 2 at a time every day; right now its my Rossi rp63 in an IWB holster with my P365 Xmacro in my sling bag across my torso. I also carry medical in my bag and also carry a small book with a metal front and back that can stop 9mm (tried it) as a "second chance" if it does happen to catch the round.
With the small belly I have due to working behind a computer for a living, I carry at 3 o'clock high, with a S&W CSX, or an M&P Shield... love them both... but I too am working on my mid-section. ALSO...I used to guide elk hunters years ago so I am used to carrying at that position... Thank you as always Mr. Glover and God Bless....
Glock G48 MOS with a Holosun 507k and Streamlight TLR7 Sub. I prefer appendix carry with the G-Code Phenom Commando. G-Code makes great stuff. All of my holsters come from them including my duty holster. BTW great to see you back Mike. I’m really enjoying the Focal Point content with Andy too

I’ve even trained drawing in while in the driver seat in my truck, and it’s not as hindering as I thought it would be. A slight lean forward and to the left, and I can perfectly draw. My opinion, where you carry isn’t the most important, practice practice practice is….
For me the sidecar style holster with a full size pistol is oddly the most comfortable for me. For someone with severe lower back pain it would sound counter intuitive but the sidecar distributes the weight of the pistol and adds extra weight with the magazine so that it’s not pulling on one side of my lower back. Coupled with the Hunter Constantine belt I’ve actually never been more comfortable. Just something to keep in mind for my guys with sciatica and disk problems!
Most of the time iwb appendix carry crossbreed holster. In the backcountry I use a chest rig with my 10mm. In the fall with cooler temperatures and more layers go with galco leather owb holster. 🇺🇸
In an urban environment, in and out of vehicles, the best system is a shoulder holster. Especially if you carry condition 1, the shoulder holster just makes so much more sense.

Before TX became open carry appendix was not a thing and I carried IWB at the 3 o'clock, now I carry OWB at the 3 o'clock. Since I am retired dress code allows me to be extremely casual and if I am wearing a shirt only it is 1 size larger and untucked. I really do not worry much about printing since most people are not observant. Great job, thanks!
I like a classic shoulder holster best. As long as you can wear a flannel or button up over it you can go anywhere; vehicle, hiking, church, you’re covered.
Useful information. I've always appreciated how Mike teaches adaptibility to your situation. There's almost never a "one size fits all." What you carry should change depending on what you'll be doing and where you'll be.

Welcome back sir! You’ve been in my prayers, like, seriously. I prefer a micro compact at 3 o’clock. I don’t have to adjust it really at all and with a baggier shirt (thankfully those are in atm) I don’t print at all.
I have carried IWB appendix but OWB 3 or 4 o'clock is so much more comfortable it is now the only way I carry. I have to wear cover garments of course but in the summer I just wear light cotton or linen shirts or a denim vest.
I’ve got some AlienGear Shapeshifter action going on over here. Mostly carry appendix but this kit lets me swap to different carries pretty easily. Not bad for affordable conversions.
G30 with a Gardener (since retired) grip reduction for my digitally challenged hands in a 10+ year old Crossbreed. All I really have to say is, find one that shoots like an old friend and spend time with the friend. My homestead range time is probably more therapeutic than preparedness. On the homestead I carry a S&W 1006 OSWB (pigs and yotes), but most times I slip into a something a little more comfortable...G30 in a Crossbreed.

I live in a hot climate year round and tshirt and shorts is typical uniform of the day. The Blackhawk Stache Nacho Belly Band is fantastic. I never felt Belly bands were safely designed with crappy built in holsters of cheap nylon, but the Blackhawk allows you to carry your own normal IWB kydex holster attached to a scuba belt sewn into the belly band. So it's easy to swap out carrying whatever gun you prefer for the day with the safety and retention of a standard IWB kydex holster. It's made CC super easy and very comfortable.
I typically carry AIWB with my sig365 XL, but because of your videos and others like yours, I purchased the Eberlestock Bando bag for off-body carry, which is better for certain scenarios and allows me to have more well-rounded EDC with medical and such. I'm glad you are back making videos again!

I will typically carry my Glock 43X appendix with an Alien holster or in my Eberlestock Bando Bag with a kydex trigger guard attached on a lanyard in the bag. The most comfortable carry option I currently have is my Kimber Micro 9 carrying appendix - it just disappears...it's also my least favorite gun to shoot, so I'm still evolving my set up. I use all three but depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going makes the final decision. One other method is a sticky holster in a pocket. Again it depends on the clothing.
I carry an M&P 2.0, 4in barrel. Weapon light and red dot, with a trex arms IWB holster. I forget exactly which one it is, but it serves me well. Ive added a good bit to my "survival cache" over the past 2 years lol so it definitely prints more than ot used to, but thats entirely on me. When i was actively eating right and working out regulary, you could never tell i had it on me, even with a more form fitting t- shirt.
Started off carrying several years ago with a small setup, Bersa 380 with bare minimum leather holster. Over time, went up to larger rigs and larger pistols as I gained more experience and practice. Now, I'm going back to smaller/lighter to optimize comfort. A S&W shield or bodyguard 2.0, G43, 365 type and a basic comfortable holster are superior IMO for wanting to actually keep it on you and carry more often.
This is wise information, don't want take your set up to drive, and have to stand up get out of the vehicle and then put your carry back in while some people watch. Good info good advice stay strong. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY
Seeing Mike back on the big screen gives me hope for this world. I live in South FL, I carry inside the waistband with a Tier 1 concealed holster with a mag caddy. I also run a full size S&W M&P 2.0 Metal Carry Comp. I do find myself adjusting a lot recently so I think I'm moving to a Fieldcraft IWB holster without a mag caddy.
This is great! Especially with my friends recently getting into preparedness, this will be an excellent series to pass along. Oh, IWB at o'clock for me, mostly for comfort. Hides great under a suit at church, and works well under Tiki shirts or T-shirts
I’ve been carrying appendix inside the waistband now for about 7 years. It’s been a journey of finding the right gear and placement, but I’ve found that JMCustom Kydex holsters with the conceal clips work very well for me. Am carrying a HK VP9SK primarily in the summer and Glock 17 or full size HK VP9 during cooler months and winter.
Good to see you back! Recently switched over to a Glock 19 at the appendix position. Have to say I was very skeptical of Glocks for the longest time (not sure why) but I’m totally hooked. Used to have the Subcompact Springfield XD but my Glock is more concealable. Springfield comes out with the fanny

Depending on wardrobe (jeans and flannel, gym shorts and tshirt, etc) I will either carry iwb appendix or in a field craft survival fanny pack. I like the fanny pack as I can carry med gear, haven’t found great way to carry med gear without
M&P 2.0 full size with a red dot and X300u, in a Philster Floodlight 2. The most comfortable holster I have ever owned. Little to no issues with printing. Also have a spare 24 round mag just in case, but I usually carry 4 of them. If I need deep concealment I just switch to my smart carry holster. There is no reason to not carry a full size these days. I do prefer open carry in my safariland but that is reserved for very hot days in the city.

I think you forgot to mention the type of holster. Without a certain clip, its impossible to cross draw carry

I've carried a G19 appendix for 27 years. 6'0 tall 210 lbs. It prints but never have I been busted. I carry everywhere every day.

In regards to the appendix holster positioning issue: Phlster Enigma Express is an absolute GAME CHANGER

Glock 43X MOS when it’s hot out, Staccato C2 for everything else. Both in a Tier1 Concealed Axis Elite. Very comfortable for me.

I use all three but depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going makes the final decision. One other method is a sticky holster in a pocket. Again it depends on the clothing.
I carry an M&P 2.0, 4in barrel. Weapon light and red dot, with a trex arms IWB holster. I forget exactly which one it is, but it serves me well. Ive added a good bit to my "survival cache" over the past 2 years lol so it definitely prints more than ot used to, but thats entirely on me. When i was actively eating right and working out regulary, you could never tell i had it on me, even with a more form fitting t- shirt.
Started off carrying several years ago with a small setup, Bersa 380 with bare minimum leather holster. Over time, went up to larger rigs and larger pistols as I gained more experience and practice. Now, I'm going back to smaller/lighter to optimize comfort.
A S&W shield or bodyguard 2.0, G43, 365 type and a basic comfortable holster are superior IMO for wanting to actually keep it on you and carry more often.
I have a Springfield XDS Mod. 2 osp 9mm with a Holosun 507k and Olight pl mini 2. WindHill IWB holster.

I live in South FL, I carry inside the waistband with a Tier 1 concealed holster with a mag caddy. I also run a full size S&W M&P 2.0 Metal Carry Comp. I do find myself adjusting a lot recently so I think I'm moving to a Fieldcraft IWB holster without a mag caddy.

This is great! Especially with my friends recently getting into preparedness, this will be an excellent series to pass along. Oh, IWB at o'clock for me, mostly for comfort. Hides great under a suit at church, and works well under Tiki shirts or T-shirts

I’ve been carrying appendix inside the waistband now for about 7 years. It’s been a journey of finding the right gear and placement, but I’ve found that JMCustom Kydex holsters with the conceal clips work very well for me. Am carrying a HK VP9SK primarily in the summer and Glock 17 or full size HK VP9 during cooler months and winter.
Good to see you back! Recently switched over to a Glock 19 at the appendix position. Have to say I was very skeptical of Glocks for the longest time (not sure why) but I’m totally hooked. Used to have the Subcompact Springfield XD but my Glock is more concealable. Springfield comes out with the fanny

IWB 90% of the time. In a bag with a flap if I'm not wearing a belt. 10% of the time. If I'm in the woods I open carry. (camping) Thanks for the video!

I use a tenicor velo4 with my 365. Has a wedge built in to press the grip in for less printing. Comfortable as well.

I carry the a cr920 or oz9c in tier 1 sidecar holsters after a few days I was perfectly comfortable in them all day.
I carry a Kimber 1911 3”. I use either a crossbreed holster IWB or a kydex OWB at the 3 o’clock position. I just purchased the 365 and am currently training with it and will carry that soon. Keep up the great content and my prayers are with you. From behind enemy lines in commyfornia, OUT.
AIWB is the move. Personally I like the sidecar style. I find it the most comfortable.
Dad summer carry is in the Eberlestock fanny pack.
That quick draw with the belt holster decouple was smooth.

M&P 2.0 full size with a red dot and X300u, in a Philster Floodlight 2. The most comfortable holster I have ever owned. Little to no issues with printing. Also have a spare 24 round mag just in case, but I usually carry 4 of them. If I need deep concealment I just switch to my smart carry holster. There is no reason to not carry a full size these days.
I do prefer open carry in my safariland but that is reserved for very hot days in the city.
