New BlackBerry phone it's hard ask. I was also waiting for upgrading. But still stuck to Blackberry key 2le like stuck in timeloop 😅. I also hope one day blackberry come up with new phone 😊
I'm seriously thinking of getting one. Just as you I became aware of the growing bad habit of taking my smartphone and do "stuff" without meaning. Digital addictiveness is as creepy and stealthy as any other addiction. It takes you silently and without you noticing and by the time you became aware (or someone made you aware) of your dependency it's too late, you're hooked. I also want something that is still somehow intelligent so can still use things like banking and payment apps and some lightweight social media. Not just a good old nokia or similar feature phones (I already have those but I only use it as emergency devices or as alarm clock).
Mine comes today. I was smartphone free for 9 months but I want a smarter device, there is just no point living with just a dumb phone its just not safe in an emergency situation especially when you have kids. Having access to uber for example if your car breaks down etc is the one of the main reasons I am coming back to smartphones but I am glad that the smartphone I bought isn't a glass slap like a samsung or iphone. Cat s22 seems like an intentional device for digital minimalists
@@bravestarr19 The minimalism is what drew me to it honestly. I have an oukitel atm, and it's just a brick and all I use it for is music, texting and calls. Figured since I'm not using the screen for anything major, time to go back. Kinda funny how millenials grew up with flipphones and we're coming back to them lol.

Do consider comparing Unihertz Titan Pocket, Qin F21 pro as well before making a decision. The number of small keypad android phones are getting fewer day by day.
S22 owner here. It's a great phone. It's got an awesome FM Radio built into to it too. It requires an included USB-C to 1/8 stereo cable to be plugged in to work though. So it can't charge while listening to the FM radio but the built-in app does show artist and song titles and even has a record button. Unfortunately, the FM Radio only works with earbuds or earphones but it sounds awesome. The FM radio app just doesn't work with Bluetooth or the built in speaker. It even has a flashlight like a smartphone. It also works as a hot spot. I use it to supply WiFi to my tablet. It's a flip phone on the bottom because there is something so satisfying about having real physical buttons to press and flipping the phone closed when a call is over, yet still having a mini smartphone in the flip up lid to use when needing smartphone capiblities, it's the best of both worlds. it's great. It's the only phone I use!
@@oareyou I agree. That would have been much better, the manufacturer, Caterpillar, has a UA-cam channel for this phone. The phone is great and I'm happy with it, but there is always room for improvement. I asked in the comments on their channel for them to add a dedicated headphone jack if they come out with a later generation of this phone and to please keep the FM radio. That would allow the radio to be usable without running down the battery or worry over losing a cable, or the cable going bad. The FM radio has a rich bass sound. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I also suggested making the screen an inch wider by reducing the bezel, it works okay now, but an extra inch would make to S22 easier to use for larger fingers, also improving the exterior camera which sadly is low in megapixels. Still a great phone regardless. I just subscribed to your channel. Nice work.
Normally you could use a usb c hub for 3,5mm headphones while charging simultaneously. But not sure if this would support it. But how is the battery life on this when you are already complaining that you can't listen to music while charging? I only charge my phone when I sleep normally.
@@gehteuchnichtsan7911 I thought of that also, but have not purchased one. Battery usually lasts a couple of days with normal usage. I've never had it completely die on me before getting around to charging it. It was less of a complaint, more of an nitpick. A wish list item for a future improvement. Overall I'm still quite satisfied with the unit.
I have had the CAT S61 for a little over 5 years and its still working great. I plan on keeping it until it stops working or 4G is discontinued. The CAT phones are made pretty well. I didn't know there was a flip phone that runs on Android.
I'm surprised at both how big it is, but also how it kind of has an aesthetic. It looks cyberpunk and brutal instead of the wierd 2000s silver, swooshy flip phones of the past. Seeing it makes me think of my last flip phone which was also a Dark Knight themed one from around 2009, finding out that even at that time that while they had finally all begun to use Micro USB the headphone jacks were all proprietary 😅. I was real mad in learning that I couldn't use my phone as an MP3 player yet despite the option existing and even having a micro SD slot. I didn't know they were still supporting old versions of android, let alone still using them for phones like these- though it is their best use case. I'd even consider using one, but the camera on my Pixel 6.1 is *so damn good* it makes some projects a breeze. Good to see you're rocking it tho! Wish we still had the full keyboards and not just haptic screens.
I personally would love to see BlackBerry phones back again. Like phones with normal size screen and extendable keyboard which makes the feeling of typing messages much better than typing on a screen but it should have Snapdragon SoC because those chips are just great when it comes to performance and battery life.. as people and I experienced it when daily driving Xiaomi phones that have that SoC and getting a S23 Ultra and using it as a secondary phone with Exynos powered S22 Ultra. However, those phones definitely don't compare to my old and obsolete Blackberry with touchscreen, physical keyboard and of course, Android.
In today's New age of social media addiction more old school cell phone makers should launch such phones like Blackberry and nokia. I'd definitely buy such type of phones.
Blackberry has unfortunately gotten out of the hardware business, but Nokia has been relaunching updated versions of their older phones. You get LTE and a color screen, but the app selection is more oriented towards people that like minimalism.
there is also a market of Linux based phones being developed as we speak, it's in infantile stage right now but the ultimate goal is to create a phone that is generally great for privacy and free of google apps influence
Yeah I just want a really small phone with a full keyboard, like a true OG blackberry. I want something that favours battery life over horsepower. I don't want any social media apps at all however I still want to be able to instant message across those platforms. So if there could be a custom client for all the heavy hitters where you don't get the social feed but you can still receive messages from friends, that would be ideal. I have like 12 social media apps installed and the only reason is to cater to my friends' preferred chat platform. But the side effect is getting sucked into the feed. I dont want the feed.
Thanks for making this video. I was looking at the Nokia flip phone but didn't go ahead with it because of the unavailability of payment apps and the app based ecosystem provided by android. Will definitely check out the S22 flip!
Absolutely love the video, you got me hooked by how you edited it, really love the aesthetic man. I've been on the search for a dumb phone for the same reason of leaving my phone addiction. You actually helped me have another characteristic I should look at while I keep searching, and that is to see if it can do digital payments which is now very important and helpful, thank you!
Genuinely a pretty great first video here. It definitely is intriguing to consider that aspect of the flip phone market as that is an area I haven't really considered mobile minimalism before but it's also surprising at how usable it is with modern everyday tasks and the general day to day. I really think it would be neat if more phone manufacturers experimented with alternative form factors rather than sticking the same slabs each year. Excited to see more on here soon!
This was a great video! I was quite surprised that an Android flip phone existed. And no, those "foldables" don't count as "flip phones" as actual tactile buttons are kind of the POINT of having a flip phone. Nice job! 🏆
@@eviloz9905 The Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 was released in 2017 and the Folder even before that. Maybe you can still buy a new one in a third world country, but in North America, the battery for that phone has been sitting in the box for at least seven years. 👴🏻

I have been using a rugged flip phone for years now but life is becoming more difficult without having apps. I found this phone on ebay after watching your video and ordered it. I have never had a smart phone so I am hoping I won't become distracted by all the apps I can install.
Yes never my first phone was a motorola startac analog i used that from 1995 to 2003 when they turned off analog service then i got a nokia flip phone for a year until the motorola razr came out and bought that on launch day used that from 2004 to 2011, then went to a doro phoneeasy flip phone till 2016, then a kyoceria dura rugged flip phone from 2016 till just a few months ago when i bought my cat s22
I am currently fed up with the choice of smartphones we have. Theyare all wayyy too big and I haven't found one that's a good size. This seems like a dream. All the features I need in a compact, tough body. Will probably get this as my next phone as the price is also good. Oh and nice G-Shock Casioak
Idk if anyone else feels this way, but I would really love a Sidekick phone version like this. I loved my Flip Phone back then, but man was there nothing truly like the Sidekick since, and I'd love a newer version of that.
This is exactly what I am looking for yet again someone out of India is helping me not only become better at programming but also fixing the doom-scrolling thank you 🙇
Thank You for the video! A must type of device for all the Indians who need a distraction free device but with a need for UPI and similer apps which need it to be on Android or iOS. By far CatS22 and maybe an iPhone SE (2022) are the closest in both ecosystem which brings in most peoples requirement for something minimal. Yes, iPhone is distracting yet their are always some turn downs in whatever you chose. In CatS22 you have to deal with a huge chunk of the device where as in SE you gotta deal with the urge to engage in Infinite scroll. Yet, a great video and good alternative to curb Distraction of modern slabphones life. Do share more of your experience for other indian users about its battery and purchase places etc. All the best for the channel!
Thanks man! Yes iphone SE 2022 is a good phone that stays on the 'minimalist' side while being ip67 waterproof. Too bad I sold mine else could have made a video on it. Although it is fragile being a full glass phone and to make it rugged you need to add a bulky case, which makes the slim factor go. But it can be a good option for those who want to go minimal without leaving full touchscreen. Plus the SE gets all those sweet security updates too. I personally miss those good old days of simple phones and I love tactile keypads so a phone like CAT S22 is godsend to me. The feeling to wash a flipphone in tap water or using it in rain without worries or to use it with gloves while riding because of the buttons is something I cherish. I will make a review video with mentions to the price, availability, camera and speaker quality of this phone later. Stay tuned! :)
Just got this phone in the mail a few days ago and still setting it up to my liking. Olauncher is a great option. I think my friends are going to be a bit surprised since we are all in our early twenties. Subscribed!
I always felt very disappointed that today's smartphone designs are all the same. 3 camera lenses on the top left, 6,5" screen and that's it. I remember that during 2010-2015 smartphone makers kept experimenting many different things but now it feels like manufacturers are putting 0 effort into innovating this form factor
I had been searching for a device to replace my smartphone for a days now. Came across a few feature and flip phones but they weren't suited to my requirements of gps, and a few basic apps. Came across this video and i now know what i should go ahead with. Thank you and you have a subscriber . This was a really great video and felt very authentic. Also, i lived in Kolkata for a few year. Just a quick question, can apps like ola, uber, etc be installed on it?
I believe those will run but will have some layout / loading issue since this device is very basic in terms of hardware and software. It doesn't even have full fat android. So if you really need uber ola and many other heavy apps I'd suggest doing some research about Unihertz Titan Pocket also. I will be covering about Unihertz titan devices on my channel, hopefully. Meanwhile, lite and basic apps should work fine on CAT S22 flip. 😊
My old Samsung smartphone stopped working a long time ago, so I went about trying to find a replacement for it. I work with my hands a lot, I find that my thick dry skin often doesn't work well with touchscreens. I've been very disappointed with how few modern phones exist that have physical keypads on them. Without a suitable replacement, I ended up putting my SIM card into an old Blackberry that was sitting in my parts bin. The Blackberry doesn't have the service books that would enable internet or MMS, so all I can do is call and text with it. It's been refreshing taking a break from smartphone usage! You've got me intrigued about the CAT S22. My phones sometimes sometimes get exposed to pretty rough conditions when I do contracting work. Durability is something I look for.
Nice this is the same reason in bought mine. Needed crucial apps like messenger, paypal, maps, and yt music but wanted to make other entertainment apps inconvenient to use to reduce screen time. Looking forward to using it when it gets here in few days. I also havent had a waterproof phone in awhile so itll be nice for the ocean here in Hawaii, hoping i can take some diving pics. This is a well made video keep up the hard work. i see you just started good luck
I'm sure you will love it as it should be sufficient for those few important apps while being not exciting enough to binge watch videos or scroll through social media all day long. Thank you for the compliment, yes it's a new channel and the first upload. Wish to share more videos, stay tuned!
@@simonsays001 I don't use Facebook or Instagram. Chrome works good despite only having 2gbs of ram, I was surprised, maybe because it's Android go. Most apps work well but I've noticed Wendy's app is slow but most others are good enough

Found your video just after ordering this phone, was curious whats on YT about it, really glad i did the right thing...was spending bit too much on my pixel (close to 50hrs a week), really need to go back to basics...i did try to move my primary sim in flip phone in the past but that didnt work..now im planning to get secondary phone/sim and play around..planning to keep my pixel away and silent ..Thanks again!!
Just think of it as an experiment for few days and see for yourself if it's going well for you. Personally I believe smartphones are great, it's just social media and the unavailability of any physical keypad that kills my mood.
WOW, this is so good for the first video. I live near Kolkata (Uttarpara) and I have been thinking about going back to my JIO DUMB PHONE as they now support UPI payments. Your video about this CAT phone is giving me the inspiration to start using the DUMB JIO PHONE, the plan is much cheaper on it too 😛
Thank you for your video it was a great watch! everyone has their own journey. I found my happy spot was with apple (braces for all of the it doesn't have x feature comments). hear me out though. Like how you had started to explore hobbies when they made their switch I was consistently tinkering with my android device. Forever customizing, editing, and tweaking it for the perfect experience. So much so that I had pretty much stopped using it as a phone. Swapping to apple worked well for me because I was using it as a phone. I recognize it as a self-discipline problem for myself at this point, but it was a lot easier to develop better habits when I limited myself to less. for me less was more.
Been searching for this kinda phone for a long time. Thanks for the video man Hopefully when I pass my exams ...I will be getting this instead of a new smartphone
I bought one 2 days ago. I love it! I personally think if you have a laptop, you do not need a big screen smartphone. I am happy to stop wasting time and money.
I don’t have a need or a want for a flip phone just got an iPhone 14 pro never the less this video was well shot and edited great job. I do wish for a physical QWERTY keyboard every now and then.
You are the first review I watched who used the keyboard. Thank you. I was actually wondering if I can navigate the screen using the keyboards and these reviewers keep touching the screen!!! Thank you thank you. Mine's arriving in a few days.
What's the point of having a keypad phone if keypad is not to be used 😊 Remember to tap the speakerphone button when up arrow/down arrow don't work. A lot of apps are compatible with keypad navigation. Nova Launcher is 99% compatible as well.
I wasted so many hours on Doom RPG on my Samsung Monte Slider when I was in high school! Nice to revisit those memories. That game was simple but very fun.

Looking for a basic phone for calls/texts and Spotify as I still want to be able to listen to music when out and about and that's about it, would you recommend the phone for this use? I did see a comment about needing a micro usb to aux extension as well. It looks very chunky as well, what do you feel about the size as the chunky boi vibes are slightly off putting for me. All the best 🙏

@@michaeldhondt368 why don't you use regular smartphones is there a reason or do you prefer simpler phones?
Amazing review. I loved the laidback sense of humor too 😂😂😂😂
Thanks! 😁
i just bought one and it's arriving this Saturday. i am sooo excited!!!
Are you able make calls with it?
@@basheerabdullah4549 yes! works just like any other phone except it’s dumbed down. it’s great for lessening screen time. :)
can you disable apps like Yt etc etc ?
Hey bro I want to buy unlock cat s22 can uh help where I can buy 😢
I am currently fed up with the choice of smartphones we have. Theyare all wayyy too big and I haven't found one that's a good size. This seems like a dream. All the features I need in a compact, tough body. Will probably get this as my next phone as the price is also good.
Oh and nice G-Shock Casioak
agreed they're all too big. I am still using an xperia xz1 compact.
Stay tuned! :)
Thanks for the honest and frank review of this phone. I'm seriously considering getting one to help my digital detox
Good presentation. I just received my CAT S22. I enjoyed your positive confirmation. Thanks.
High quality vid. Your channel deserve more support. Love it
Great work, my CAT S22 brother. Greetings from the other side of the world :)
Thanks a lot! Love and peace!
A week ago i was also searching for such a phone, i appreciate your efforts 🔥🔥👌
"What smartphone do you use?"
"Oh, i don't use smartphone, i use heavy construction machinery"
This seems perfect for my dad. The simplicity of a dumbphone but having wattsapp and online bsnking etc available when needed
Than you very mutch. I was looking for something like this. Great video, and keep up the good work.
Hey sorry to bug you but I was wondering does it let you use Apple Music on it ?
@@mariop8163 does everything a regular Android could do
Does Instagram and Facebook and internet work well or no ?
@@simonsays001 I don't use Facebook or Instagram. Chrome works good despite only having 2gbs of ram, I was surprised, maybe because it's Android go. Most apps work well but I've noticed Wendy's app is slow but most others are good enough
am shifting from iphone to this type due to social media detoxification i also wish to get rid of. my phone addiction is beyond control now. and seeing this cute one is so handy and useful at the same time. thank you for sharing your experience
Hey man recently i watched your videos & i get addicted to CAT S22 & now i ordered 😍 I request you to make more videos about CAT S22 Flip & Please cover various apps to use in CAT s22 flip .also your voice is Sweet & feeling pleasent while watching Video Keep going man 🔥🔥
Thanks for your words and your support brother. ☺️
Where to buy?
Have you also looked into those F22 and F23 pro phones? I’m considering those but not sure if it supports Android pay but they they do have play store now
I too am from Kolkata, your video was so well made. Got recommended to me in the New for you section. Absolutely loved it. Right up my alley. Subbed.
Thanks a lot.. Yes UA-cam algorithm did its job I guess. ☺
i've been wanting something like this for a long time. thanks algorithm
What website have you purchased the flip phone from?
I have been using my S22 for about 1/2 a year and I love it!
Oh first video but very professional, I really like you story telling style
I definitely need something like this. Just watching this video made me want to change my wallpaper
I knew as soon as you started talking you were from Kolkata.... as one Bong tech nerd to another, I subscribed instanty!
Prepare to grow man. Saw the intro and subscribed instantly! 😊
Hope the vibe stays over months and years! 😊
WOW, this is so good for the first video. I live near Kolkata (Uttarpara) and I have been thinking about going back to my JIO DUMB PHONE as they now support UPI payments. Your video about this CAT phone is giving me the inspiration to start using the DUMB JIO PHONE, the plan is much cheaper on it too 😛
Dude Thats an amazing and honest review. Khoob bhalo dada
This is exactly what I've been looking for
Thank you for your video it was a great watch! everyone has their own journey. I recognize it as a self-discipline problem for myself at this point, but it was a lot easier to develop better habits when I limited myself to less. for me less was more.
ahaha my s22 is on its way to me right now - which is how i found ur video. ur so charismatic, dude!
This is really good video editing!
You deserve 1,000,000 Subscribers!
Been searching for this kinda phone for a long time. Thanks for the video man
Hopefully when I pass my exams ...I will be getting this instead of a new smartphone
All the best 😊 I would suggest to look into more keypad phones such as Unihertz Titan Pocket, Qin F21 pro as well.
I bought one 2 days ago. I love it!
I personally think if you have a laptop, you do not need a big screen smartphone. I am happy to stop wasting time and money.
Beautiful! Great Photo for construction work and old folks
This video - You made my day. Good to know still have a chance to buy my childhood dream 😊
Love the Electro music intro and outro..
Great video... just bought it myself.
Cheers from Costa Rica.
Didn't even know this exist, Thank you!
@@oareyouyou replied! thank you! can I ask what launcher/theme you used?
@@DigitalMangoShake I use Nova Launcher and the icon theme is pixbit icon pack from play store. Customised the homescreen myself. 😊
I subscribed and hit the notification bell icon to watch your videos as soon as they are published.
I wasted so many hours on Doom RPG on my Samsung Monte Slider when I was in high school! Nice to revisit those memories. That game was simple but very fun.
Please go on to find success on UA-cam, all the best!
Thanks a lot for the wish, friend 🙏😊
Brother is it worth it to buy this phone now ?? Or which phone would you recommend to reduce smartphone usage
Good review. I was also trying to buying a flip phone + andriod os. But it's before pandemic 🤔. Forget it while days went. Thanks for reminding me 😊. Wishing all the sucess for the bright future ahead. I like the distinctive name which you chose for your channel.
Only a minute in but great video quality Will subscribe
been looking for something like this thanks for sharing!
I love that it has the silhouette of a blackberry pearl
Your video production quality is good.
Love the video brother... the sholay harmonic play was cherry on the top.
I even learned the first few lines of O Sanam (Lucky Ali) as well in last few days. Hopefully will improve. 🙏😊
As u r from kolkata, i am ur loyal subscriber.❤❤❤
Hey, what launcher are you using ? To get those pixeled icons ? Thanks :)
Can you share review about this phone after this months of usuage?? Also does the secondary screen shows notifications of the apps that we are using?
Great video, thank you so much! It would be so cool to have it running a custom ROM without google services, as I do not depend on it.
Custom rom support is always a great option for everyone irrespective of whether we like google services to be installed or not. Sadly, there is no such support for this phone yet.
Your channel is cool bro, it's still small but you can make good review video, informative and educative keep it up
Hey there, love this video!! How did you customize your screen and apps? It looks so fun, is there a download for it?
New sub, love your style and editing, also where you live and the rainy bike shots hit so good! Well done dude, following for more!
"You are watching... Or are you?" Sorry for this terrible joke, just a random thought about the intro!
Wow! Soothing video with useful content and awesome aesthetics! PS: This is exactly the kind of phone that contract killers or people going undercover in Bollywood movies use 😁✌🏻 ... Btw, "You are watching... O are you" Good one! 😅
Don made everyone go crazy over moto razr ❤️
Awesome video! What theme did you download to get the icons to look retro?? Thanks!
Intro convinced me to subscribe
Great video, 👍🏻. How is the call quality with JIo, Airtel in suburban areas?
would you say it would support a giffgaff sim and major banking apps like Halifax. Also what's the storage like on it, both internal and memory card?
Also you used my most favourite transformer for your little reference there 💛it made me smile.
Beautiful video and sound! Cheers from Kyiv :)
