was lucky enough too see them play live twice. cant praise them highly enough, ffs somebody build a time machine so i can go back and save stuart and sort him out. talented man u touched my heart.
I will always love this band. No one ever did Celtic Rock better, and with such thoughtful lyrics to boot. They were incredible live, and we all danced and screamed wildly. Glory days.
Exactly my words my friend, I miss this band and miss Stuart… they were all so talented musicians, no bands like these anymore ! RIP Stuart you may be layed where the rose is sown..
It breaks my heart every time... again and again - I can´t believe he´s lost forever... We have to be glad for that what he has left us. Thank you, Stu. See you when I get there...
those bass lines just kill me..these guys could really play. I remember turning some young kids on to this band in my car 15 years ago and they were like "Holy crap, who is this?"
The voice, the lyrics, the guitars like bagpipes . . . They turn a song into an anthem like nobody else. I'm just glad that UA-cam exists to host performances like this, so we can watch them over & over (as the memory from the 80s is a little hazy of when these vids first played). I miss this guy at least as much as I do John Lennon, and more than the rest of the great musicians who went too young. Stuart, rest in peace, if you can. We are grateful for the songs you left us.
Sons of men who stand like gods, we give life to feed the cause and run to ground our heathen foe.....Our name will never die..This time will be forever.
I loved and still love U2, but Big Country was always my favorite. When I bought my first two cassette tapes were Big Country, "The Crossing," and Def Leppard, "Pyromania." I played that Big Country tape until it was completly worn out! I miss those days in the fog of Washington State.
this was one of the few times in my life when i heard a song for the first time i fell in love with it immediately. this song makes me want to cry laugh dance at the same time. all musicians should aim to try to rock like big country at least for one song in their lifetime. very inspiring beautiful music that kicks ass at the same time
Something special about this band - they meant such alot to me in my youth - Peace in our Time, Thirteen Valleys, Thousand Yard Stare, Fields of Fire, The Flame of the Weest...I really connected with everything they did. Thx for posting.
Probably in my top 5 all time favourite songs, a massively underated band, which to my mind makes them even greater after the passing years, the death of Stuart Adamson was and is a massive loss, Big Country to me still sounds fresh and sounds even better than it did 20 odd years ago
Big Country amazing strong band in the 80s and beginning of the 90s ! They have made some of the best classics around. Ashame they get so little airplay here in The Netherlands. Greatly under-estimated. But the sadest part is the death in 2001 of their frontman. Still cant believe it. This is to me their most powerfull song.
"If I die in the combat zone - box me up and send me home If I die and still get home - lay me were the rose is sown" ...a powerfull lyric from this brilliant group - RIP Stuart!!
u2 cannot hold a candle to the words, music or sheer meaning of big country. I wish they could have been as recognized as they should have been, i know they added to my life a rhythmicaly better world.
Yup went and watched restless natives and was awestruck at the final scenes of the bike hurtlin up salisbury crags in Edinburgh .. Man made me reminise God bless big country and Stuart Adamson from a time when Bands meant every thing , Go download the best of big country from Itunes and remember the great times....
A great song and video from my favourite band.I was fortunate enough to meet stuart, tony, bruce and mark at 'glasgow nightmoves' in sept 1982."their name will never die, this time will be forever"...
I have/had the same experience. I wish that I could have seen them live, but it will never happen now. Their music helped me through a 4 year stint in the military and beyond. The Seer was the last album I bought and I lost track of them, now I'm discovering they kept putting out great music after that. I'm so thankful that there is so much to see on youtube, but it also makes me very sad.
I love 80s Music, Many great singers have died over the years, but when I heard Stuart Adamson was dead I was gutted, Big Country are the best band ever, they have a truly unique sound, Stuart could really belt out a tune.
My friend got me into BC in 82 and it rocked my world. I loved the Pipes and to hear that massive sound in a new form... but it was the rich lyrics in Scots History-LIVE LONG!
That is freaky! I was just watching this vid and was thinking "God, I remember drawing the Big Country emblem on all my school books" (with "The Seer" album's eagle - remember that?). I also had U2 and Simple Minds scrawled everywhere! Happy Days! Saw Big Country at Lincoln ABC cinema in 1985 my first gig at 15 years old.
What a brilliant and powerful song even in 2007!, I've got the limited edition 7inch of this signed by Stuart, Bruce and Mark when I met them outside the Edinburgh Playhouse with my mate Derek way back in 1990...they were really nice dudes by the way.
Reminds me of drawing the Big Country logo on my excercise boo... loved 'em in the day.... good to reminisce. Mind you, Brzezicki loks a bit like George Dawes in this! RIP Stuart... I even bought some shirt sleeve clips cos of you!!
A Rose for you Mr. Stuart Adamson🌹Rest in Heaven. An all time favorite band with very powerful and meaningful songs. My wake up music call for a good day.
For my money, one of the top 5 bands of all time. Getting those guitars screeching like bagpipes over Stuart Adamson's blue-collar, struggle-of-everyman lyrics raises goosebumps every damn time. People are lamenting Michael Jackson's loss right now, and fair enough, but when Stuart took himself from us in '01 the world lost a truly underrated artist-musician-poet who can never be replaced and should never be forgotten. Thank God we have the magnificent songs. Like this one here.
I was 15 in 1985 when BC played the Hollywood Palladium. My mom dropped me off at 8:00 so I could get in to the show first. I was the smallest guy getting killed on the barriers, but Stewart saw me and winked at me to let me know that I'd be alright(my brother barged into the scrum and pulled me out later). That is one of my favorite life memories. They meant a lot to me.
I always enjoyed this band!! I listened to them to my journeys across europe and beautiful Cornwall, England...Brings back many, many memories!!! Thanks Stuart for all the wonderful music....that will carry on for you!!!
This song reminds a lot of people of a time and a place where they were in the 80's - for me it was Bristol in the winter, with the sun sinking low in the cold sky - like the flame of the west!
In my early teens I played and played this record... I still have it and play it sometimes, bit scratchy now. Brings back more memories for me than almost any other song.
Cheers to you and good post...you were lucky, I am a huge fan and at 41 (American) I never got to meet the lads, it makes me happy that so many fans post and miss Stuart, the rest of the band is and were awesome.....Stuart carried a lot but the sound came as well from the many!!!!!!
I agree, LeGaffer1873, the live video/version is awesome; I like the way they pan back and forth between guitarists during the intro. Steeltown is such a great album. It's a toss-up for me for favorite song between this and Flame Of The West. FOTW is just thunderous.
I will take Big Country's entire body of work over any other band. It has more power, emotion, energy, vitality, originality, and quality, than any other artist out there.
I tip my hat to Scotland for producing this group! This is one American who was damn proud to be a fan of these guys in the 1980's and I'm thankful I got see them live in San Francisco. This was an underrated band and this was an underrated song! Stuart Adamson, I hope your in a better place where there is no pain for you.
i hav no idea wot the 80s wer about, becuz...well I wasn't born yet. 90s kid. lol. but I grew up w/ these guys playing away on CDs constantly. Then I had no idea hu they were, and then in 2007, i found em again, and now they rock my world. it's hard getting used to not having stuart, and it must be even harder for the guys. stuart R.I.P.
Absolute Masterpiece

I will always love this band. No one ever did Celtic Rock better, and with such thoughtful lyrics to boot. They were incredible live, and we all danced and screamed wildly. Glory days.
GOD, I miss this band. The most criminally underrated band in my lifetime. More hooks than you'll ever find in a tackle box. RIP, Stuart. We miss you.
The most criminally underrated.. I have to take my hat off to that statement, you can't bring it closer to the truth than that.
Love Em ❤❤❤❤
Exactly my words my friend, I miss this band and miss Stuart… they were all so talented musicians, no bands like these anymore ! RIP Stuart you may be layed where the rose is sown..
It breaks my heart every time... again and again - I can´t believe he´s lost forever...
We have to be glad for that what he has left us.
Thank you, Stu. See you when I get there...
I will have "The Crossing" and "Steeltown" paying in my funeral, full blast!!!!
Thank you for the memories.
Amazing albums, both of them 🔥🎸
Poseo vinilos intactos y los dos son redondos pero the crossing batió todos los récords💪
I totally agree with you!!!
The best song against the war. Masterpiece.
What a song, what a band. Listen to that rhythm section. God bless you Stuart. Saw this band over 30 times - MAGIC
those bass lines just kill me..these guys could really play. I remember turning some young kids on to this band in my car 15 years ago and they were like "Holy crap, who is this?"

This song still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it - still relevant today as it was when it was recorded - RIP Stuart
Stuart lives on through his music🎶 🎵 ⏹ 🪕 🎼 💿 🎶 🎸 the voice,guitar,still sounds great👍
yes, his name will never die
I always wondered what the song was about, it ties in to Come Back To Me, that is a great touch.
RIP Stuart
I loved and still love U2, but Big Country was always my favorite. When I bought my first two cassette tapes were Big Country, "The Crossing," and Def Leppard, "Pyromania." I played that Big Country tape until it was completly worn out! I miss those days in the fog of Washington State.
I bought the whole cd just for this superb song! The guitars give me goose bumps. RIP.

Such an awesome guitar sound they had. 10 out of 10 for BIG COUNTRY!🔥🔥🔥

The music of Big Country reaches deep into my heart and soul. It has defined who I am and is part of my DNA.
Every time I see Stuart trying not to crack up in the beginning it makes me smile. Can't help it. Needed to see that. God bless 'em!
one of the greatest drum tracks ever!!!
BETTER THAN ANY BAND OF THIS ERA-EVEN U2-THIS IS GREAT GREAT GREAT-EVERYONE ONE IN THIS BAND IS GREAT.
U2 developed their celtic punk sound inspired by the Skids, Stuart's pre-Big country band. they'll be the first to admit their debt.
All Big Country's songs are amazing. One of the best rock bands ever.
Probably in my top 5 all time favourite songs, a massively underated band, which to my mind makes them even greater after the passing years, the death of Stuart Adamson was and is a massive loss, Big Country to me still sounds fresh and sounds even better than it did 20 odd years ago
One of the greatest bands ever!!!!
BIG COUNTRY...What an amazing band. 'OUR NAME WILL NEVER DIE, THIS TIME WILL BE FOREVER'. Such an hymn of a song 🎸

Best live band really went for it on stage, Stuart was a genius and is greatly missed

Fue una de la mejores banda escosesa del estilo
new wave / folk rock / postpunk / celtic rock
Mi banda favorita y, además, la mejor de los años 80, sin duda. Por el nivel de talento, se comen con patatas a las demás bandas contemporáneas
amazing big country one of my favorite band ''
Happy 50th Stu...
All the best fae a dons fan...

Where is this? Why have I never seen this before? I thought I had seen every BC on film. BC at their prime. Feels so fresh! Loving it!
