I bought a 3D holey rock type of setup for my 55 gallon with Tanganikyans. It helps give the tank a different look and provides some hiding/run away spots for fish. Love the Wrangler t-shirt BTW!

The price is totally worth it to me.. If the tank isn't set up yet. I really don't think it's worth it if I have to tear down the tank. I do plan on buying one when I finally set up the 125.

I’ve really enjoyed and glad went ahead added my first 3D background to my 90 gallon mbunua aquarium. It’s been in there for two years now and now looking at adding to all my aquariums.
In regards to negative reviews, make sure to get a tight fit and insure some type of water movement either with filter or simple air stone wand. One step further, add pothos or another water root plant.

Thank you for being straightforward. I think if it looks good, then its worth it.
I'm currently struggling in the process of making a DIY 3D background, its tricky trying to blend it with HOB filter.

i am currently designing my own style 3D backgrounds.. i came to the conclusion that the H.O.B. filters should be placed onto the side of the tank and not the back... this will free up your problem with the background your making and makes the water circulate so much better... you will just have to make your own top canopy to accomodate your H.O.S filter... keep an eye on my channel as i hope to have such cool designs for this hobby.. cheers.

A really big plus factor for this Backgrounds is saving Energy for heating the water because they are not only looking good they also are a good insulation layer!

I have done done custom home made backgrounds out of Styrofoam and painted with drylok, custom pvc over flow with slate rocks attached via silicone, and my most recent 3d background is a slim background from universal rocks.
They are not for everyone, and you need to spend extra money and extra time getting everything working correctly. I spent an extra week or so modifying my universal rocks background to work with an overflow and a week of testing to make sure my filtration system works the way I want it to. I won't be able to make changes down the road easily and had to get it right before fully setting up the tank.
Plan ahead, take your time and it will be worth it, they look amazing when done correctly.

since you have made your own 3D backgrounds, How does yours compare with an aquadecor background ? if you were to sell yours , what price would you charge for creating it as a business ?... thanks

    • @e5andermtube
      @e5andermtube 5 місяців тому +1

@AQUARIUMFREAK123 As long as you do it correctly, a home made background can last a long time but maybe not quite as long as a produced product. The only real advantage is its your custom piece, your specific size, your custom style, etc. You might not be able to find something on the market you like.
I don't know that I would make them as a personal business, but I would charge a decent amount for the customization. You won't come close to the mass produced backgrounds by companies though, they have scale to bring costs down and molds make it easier.

Aside from the obvious drawbacks of cost and reduced tank space, I've heard a lot of complaints about fish poop, uneaten food and even fish getting trapped behind 3D backgrounds. ... Also, I once had a juvenile Ancistrus that chewed the paint off a ceramic log decoration. Since then I've used only real wood and rocks in my aquariums. Fortunately the fake log my fish destroyed was relatively inexpensive. However, it would be a real shame for the same thing happen to a 3D background that cost hundreds of dollars.

I bought the flats that you cut to size, and they look great. Also, i bought a few 3ds for my 75s and ive always been able to find a crevis that fits the canister filters just right. the only issue is i had to suction the heater to the side of the aquarium, but if you find a nice tall rock or wood, you can somewhat conceal it. It's just an eye sore if you're looking through the sides.

Thanks for this comment, after watching the video my first thought was "its going to be hard to install a heater with an internal background". Not an issue for Prime Time as they heat their fish room, but an issue for most of us. That would kind of suck to spend hundreds $$$ on a beautiful background only to have to look at/thru a heater on one of your viewing surfaces. Something else to consider.

None of my tanks have backgrounds of any kind, so if I want to change the color I'd have to paint the room! If I was building my nano marine tank again I'd probably consider a textured or 3D background to disguise the filter wall.

I have never used a background on any of my tanks. Of course, I never had anything bigger than a 5 gallon. I am buying everything I need to set up a standard 20 gallon. It will up against a beige wall. No background. Heavily planted, with Harlequin Raboras, some Corydora's and Amano shrimp. Maybe a few Nerite snails. I still need a few supplies before buying my plants and cycling my tank. Then I will have the fun of stocking! 🐟🐠🐡🐟🐟🐡 Gina

Spent more than $1000 on a rock background from Aqua Decor for my 500 gallon tank. Very distinctive but would not do it again. Expensive, detritus traps, loss of tank volume, and difficult to install correctly. Mine faded too and lost most of its coloration. All black backgrounds are the way to go and do a better job of showing the fish off.

    • @HalfManHalfCichlid

I would like to add that my aquascaping has evolved to where rocks, driftwood and lush plants dominate the "line of sight" and a rock background would hardly be even noticed by the viewer.

Hey Jason! I have a problem with my congo tetras; one of the congos is a little bigger than the rest, really colored up, and he was chasing the other congos and nipping a little bit.
I ended up putting him I a spare tank. He's been in there for 3 days and he's not happy; when I come up to the tank he bangs against the glass and flairs and then he just almost stays put.
    And he wasn't eating.
What should i do? Leave him in there longer? Punch him in the face? Or put him back into the 75 gallon tank with the other 6 congos and rummy nose tetras.
