"Being aware of my surroundings"? What's that? I play just to spray and pray and look like an absolute idio- ohhh, I now understand why I'm bad at Splatoon.
For weapons I would recommend trying out at least one weapon of every type. Then pick out which ones you like most and find what subs/specials that you like are on those weapons. Also just because you don’t like one blaster doesn’t mean you won’t like another. For years I hated blasters and never wanted to play them. Then came along the kensa Luna blaster and I was in love. Whenever you feel bored or don’t know what weapon to pick try a new one you haven’t before to spice things up. Who knows you might find a new main!
Oh don't mind me, I'm just watching a beginners guide to Splatoon even though I've been playing since Splatoon 1 and am pretty good at the game, very far from the best, but pretty good.
speaking from experience: the weapons you like may change overtime and the ones you didnt consider using may grow on you! if you notice using a specific weapon maybe check out other types of that class so you may adapt easier. and sometimes you can start using a brand new class just because you didnt realize how fun it was singleplayer modes and salmon run are great for experimenting since they usually assign you a weapon by themselves for example i like using brushes and since im used to spamming zr anyway i got attached to sloshers. i use both now
it's very important to practice more than one weapon imo! i use clash blaster, clear dapple dualies, and squiffer! you never know when you'll have to switch things up to keep an opponent on their toes or to counterattack! it's up to the player tho!
Grind ability chunks is a big one. Salmon run can give a lot, but now you can change main abilities in splat 3, so make clothes you want, but on average it’ll be around 110 chunks to fully mono ability your gear.
I’ll never trust a “this way”. More times than not you end up dead because someone hasn’t actually created a path. Also people who don’t understand resetting the rainmaker is a good idea sometimes.
Excellent guide! This will definitely help Splatoon newcomers. I've been playing Splatoon since the beginning was was still able to pick some tips up 👍
Salmon Run is (or was in 2 at least) a great way of getting food and drink tickets, but also trying out random weapons to see if you like them enough to want to try and get good with them because, well, you're given random weapons for it. I don't think you can get good with a weapon in salmon run due to the differences in how you play PvE and PvP generally, but you can get a good sense of 'is this main weapon something I enjoy using' in it. It helps that it's a really fun mode, of course.
I say you get good with the weapons in term of knowing their strengths and weaknesses while practicing other aspects of the game like prioritizing dangerous targets or going around them, helping teamates, and focusing your current objective whether that's inking turf or splatting a particularly good player. The mode is really fun especially in the higher tiers when you actually face small armies of boss salmonids or even maximum hazard.
I haven't seen the video so idk what tips you'll suggest but here are three of my tips: 1. Take advantage of the range of your weapon. Running a splattershot pro, jet squelcher, splat charger or most long ranged weapons at close range can easily end in a one-way ticket to the respawn area, so stay away from your opponents. On the contrary, aggressively move forward or sneak ahead with close ranged weapons. 2. Prevent "walk-and-shoot-syndrome". This is where you mindlessly shoot your weapon while moving around. There are other options, like getting in swim form to a better position or disengage. 3. Speaking of disengaging, focus on some of that. There's no need to always be risky and aggressive. Escaping from harmful situations can be more helpful than the 10-20 seconds it takes for you to come back from respawning.
Didnt expect to see my tweet! I agree with a lot of the user tips, ESPECIALLY the one reminding people that this is a GAME. Have fun! Take breathers. I scroll twitter for 5 minutes after every two matches, and it helps! Sometimes our brains get in such a deep ditch that we need to let it dig itself out instead of trying to force it out ourselves. If you get angry or see your performance declining over multiple matches-- sit some out. Go make some tea. Get a snack. Watch a youtube video. All you need is five to ten minutes to destress and clear out. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 9th! Have Fun, Stay Safe, and STAY FRESH!
Very helpful- definitely a video i’ll come back to once I get a hold of the game. The splatfest was literally my first time playing splatoon and I definitely have a long way to go but I thibk for the first time I did pretty well! I was pretty freaked out on my first round but after awhile and testing out a variety of weapons, I was doing decently well :D
About the don’t be predictable as a carbon roller main this is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY because if you aren’t able to implement stealth then don’t move predictably even basic zigzagging is better than a straight line
I was a splat roller main for a solid 4 years and come Splatoon 3 testfire I found out I'm also really good with the dualies. The TROUBLE THIS WOULD HAVE SAVED ME IF I HAD JUST BRANCHED OUT AND EXPERIMENTED WITH WEAPONS.
It personally took me a year to find out that I was best with dynamo. You should definitely experiment until you find whats right for you. ALSO PRACTICE! Play pbs with streamers, play turf war to get used to weapons, do the single player. Like after I started regularly playing pbs and legue with a streamer I got like 100% better. It really helps. Doesnt even have to be with a streamer maybe with just some friends over discord. just sum tips from someone with 680 hours in splat 2 over 2 years
N-Zap series is my jam, ever since I picked up the 89 in the first game, it just clicked. I want to know other weapons, I feel it will help me in the long run, but man, I love the N-Zaps. I love inking turf, the 89 was so good for that in the first game. I launched so many inkstrikes per match, it was insane! I was playing the first game again today, been YEARS, but 2 of my favorite maps were in rotation at the same time, Mahi-Mahi Resort & Hammerhead Bridge (yes, I flipped out when they were announced & then was disappointed when Mahi-Mahi was so different during the splatfest world premier) & wow, felt so good to pick that up again. I hope whenever the 89 is back in the 3rd game, it has the triple inkstrike. I want to know other weapons, I know nothing fits my play style as well as an N-Zap although I did end up liking the Sploosh-O-Matic in the second game, I didn't like it in the first because the range sucks but enjoying it in the second because I like inking & I also like curling bombs.
God, the "this way" command is so important in salmon run, and yet in mid game no one listens. Like mechanical I'm trash but no one listens when I spam "this way" due to a night event
Bro, I always feel like the only one who protects my super jumping teammate. I barely see anyone do that- (Sometimes I cant if I'm really busy or like, several people are coming at me at once)
I had the ticket thing happening to me the moment i began playing splatoon 2... Did an insane amount of Salmon Run with my friends, and without noticing i basically HOARDED a crazy amount of tickets :D
hm... maybe i just got super lucky with who i got paired with, but when i was playing the Splatfest World Premiere, rushing into enemy territory ASAP and generally being aggressive usually got me a lot of good "#1" medals. then again, i also don't think i was completely unaware of who was around me at any given moment, so maybe it was just that i wasn't being an idiot about it. ...though, i also never really paid attention to the UI, so i had no idea who i was facing against or whether they had their specials ready. i feel like that'll be an issue moving forward...
…With how horrible my spatial awareness tends to be, I’ll likely just keep running into dead ends or ambushes, as opposed to taking any of the more tactically advantageous routes in each stage.
Pufuu what if I told you that I hacked The eShop and got Splatoon 3 early, played and beat the story mode, used an alt Nintendo Switch so I won’t get banned and this is only hypothetical. What do you think, what are your thoughts?
No, I don't survive it. Because unlike everyone else in this game, I suck out loud at it. I just effing ragequit 2. I've been doing that a LOT. I don't even know if I know the word F-ING IMPROVEMENT. It'll still be another 20 or 30 years at it.
I'm planning on doing a few hero mode levels to refamiliarize myself with the controls, and likely figuring out what sensitivity I want motion at. And then probably Salmon Run because I tend to do way too much Salmon Run, but...
in general, i would say buying a 300 dollar (or 200 if you're ok with handheld only and no way to fix joy-con drift) console for One Game is not the best idea... i'd make sure you've got other games you want to try out, first!
Another thing I would like for people to know; Since salmon run is now confirmed to be 24/7, DON'T stand infront of someone when they're trying to shoot/ink. I cannot describe how ANNOYING and unpractical this is, You are not only wasting someone elses ink, aim, time and patience. Also, please ink your spawns.
