I stopped using it many many years ago, because I thought it was against snails and slugs, and I found it not effective, so I stopped using it. Now, that you’ve shared this, I understand what to use if for. Thank you.
When we rescued a puppy with a bad roundworm problem we added this around the spots he'd go potty just to make sure there was no chance of reinfection. This stuff works wonders
Hi I’m thirteen i and I love gardening.I have a UA-cam channel all about gardening videos and advice, tips and more.gardening in my passion and it’s one of the best hobby’s you can have.happy gardening.
I have been using DE to control spider mites on my arborvitae trees for a month and a half now and so far it is working really well. I am following a schedule of spraying the trees down with water, which helps drop the spider mites vultures, then I apply the DE powder and leave on for 2 weeks, spray down with water again and reapply the DE.
I've used for years, in my coffee or cereal, dogs food as well, sprinkle on their fur to kill fleas, used it on my cat as well, it's not an insecticide per se, my understanding is the fine dust suffocates the critters, reason why it's highly recommended to use a mask, I once accidentally inhaled through my nose, a freaky accident involving a sneeze while I was pouring from a condiment container, I honestly don't even remember exactly how, lol but I assure you, it wasn't fun! I buy a fifty pound bag for like $30 at Rural King so I'm looking for more uses, I understand if mixed with paint, becomes chalk paint too! Great video, thank you for taking the time to share. Blessings to all.
The D.E. I bought didn't come with an applicator so I bought a condiment bottle for application. A funnel helps greatly when filling said bottle. Happy gardening!
Omg, exactly how I keep it. I keep 3 bottles around, for plants, doorways, etc. It even worked on an ant colony in the wrong spot (right where I oike to stand to plant). Love it! I mostly use it in a line around my house doorways to keep out roaches, ants. Generally, I prefer to leave the garden to itself.
thanks for this video because I did not know it works on aphids. I already use this for grasshoppers but now I will hopefully end my nightmare with aphids.
This was very helpful as I got spider mites in my favorite house plant and I was going to continue to keep a moist environment so I'm glad I watched this so I didn't do that!
I used DE on my veggie plants last year. I could not find food grade DE; so, used what was available in the garden department of my local discount department store. It came in a plastic bottle with an applicator tip. Using it according to package directions only created blobs of the powder onto the plant leaves; so, I found a fine mesh strainer at the thrift store that was small enough and used that to sprinkle the dust onto the plant leaves. I can't wear a mask; so, I was just careful to not created a dust cloud when sprinkling the DE onto the plant leaves.
@@Donna_G say I dusted my plants with DE. Then every week or two sprayed them with insecticidal soap, for another layer against pests, does that wash away DE?
I did not know this about DE. Luckily, I have about 5 lbs here that was purchased for other reasons (fleas) and now it can be deployed in the garden. (And I have that exact same applicator!)
Thanks for the information. I have some new garden plants that something is munching on and I'm worried the munchers will get the small plants before they get established. Also, a start of aphids on my peach trees.
I have my pepper plants indoors and aphids are just starting to increase. The DE after several days have absolutely no effect on aphids on top of leaves. It is also hard to treat the undersides of the leaves since the DE won't stick.
I'd love to know DE effect on red fire ants. We have those awful pests in the vegetable garden and they are not fun! Or maybe your recommendation to rid us of those?
the only cool thing with the pandemic is when you need a mask you have a mask. i do some woodwork sporadically and before the pandemic i would had to go to a shop and get one for the wood dust. now there is always one in my office that i can grab.
Don’t forget,,these masks are NOT medical masks,,,also they Are made in China...better to use a respirator mask or even an inexpensive painter’s mask,,from any hardware store.
Thank you so much for this video! You mention that is a video that show a better way to get rid of ants from pots and containers, but I couldn't find it. Could you send me the link? Thanks ❤
i fold it into the top layer of soil to help with fungus gnats. it has done a great job in reducing my big infestation but it does not, as far as i can see, impact the adults. but hopefully, if it continues to kill the eggs my issue will eventually get resolves as i don't think the adults live very long. that would be nice!
Mix mosquito bits into the soil. It releases a bacteria only harmful to mosquitoes and fungus gnat larva. It’ll wipe them out in no time. Yellow sticky traps will catch the adults. The diatomaceous earth loses effectiveness if it’s wet but the mosquito bits work in wetness and they’re perfectly safe for humans, animals, and other insects
Ps. Can food grade DE be also used indoors. My puppy 7 mon rescue LOVES to dig and want to take precautionary measures not to get potential sand fleas etc into the home. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you! Jacquie
I bought DE, but it's not food grade and I haven't been able to find the food grade version. I will use what I have in the garden. The food grade version can be used in the house, kitchen and bedroom.
