Without Kent’s videos and repair guides, I’m pretty sure my ‘83 300D wouldn’t be running today but I have gotten it into pretty good shape with the resources from Mercedessource.

Great title music, clear presentation and Ken brings life and character to these videos. I generally let mechanics do their work on my cars now but I still enjoy watching what they do. Cheers Mercedessource.

I agree with all of you -- what a wonderful resource Kent is. And such a HUGE amount of time he has put in to developing all the manuals, videos, parts, and repair kits including his favorite -- lubrication!! 🙂
I myself have the mentioned vacuum manual and pump kit which I bought years ago -- and have been grateful. But oddly, I've always put off reading it (and I am a "reader"!) So I've just left the doors to be a PITA and lock/unlock them manually all this time.
But with Kent's original video on this (which I just saw yesterday, though it's been up for 14 years), ua-cam.com/video/HoVVUMvEPx8/v-deo.html and now again oddly this one here today, I realized how easy it actually is to at least test the front yellow check valve and isolate out the two main lines and then get up to the first/driver door. Whoa! Beautiful.
Why was I avoiding doing it so long?
Video is so superior to b&w grainy snapshots in Chilton-style shop manuals (even though Kent's manuals are WAY easier to read and undestand.. Still...)
So because I am greedy :-) I will ask for 1 wish:
Kent could you keep going and make a complete and detailed for-pay On Demand video series on your website on W123 (and maybe others) vacuum system diagnosis and repair, with every thing that usually goes wrong and how to repair it, starting with these videos you already have at the front of the car, with the yellow check valve, 2 lines, and front door, and continuing on?
I would be eternally grateful, and would be your first customer! You make it so easy and fun to understand. You really are a great teacher, and are the de facto "master" to all of us "DIY apprentices" via your manuals and videos all these years..

I have an 83 300SD and I think the door vacuum comes from a pump in the trunk, it certainly does the trunk.

My irritation is when the locks work perfectly for 24 hours (with opening/closing 8 times), BUT no vacuum to open/close the doors if I wait 48 hours (after restoring vacuum by running the car a few minutes)! I will find the leak by isolating EVERY actuator, line, etc.! I want the car to hold vacuum at least a week without starting the car!

Thanks to you my 1985 300D turbo diesel in Midnight Blue is still up and running with only 300K miles on it. Everything on it is still original except for the stereo. My next focus is on my 1995 E320 cabriolet which has interestingly different issues given that it's gas.

I like your videos! They are very informative. When I know that there is a leak, I take my smoke generator and blow smoke in the lines. It’s very easy to find the leaks that way.

Smoke machines are great, but not all leaks can be found using them - especially if the slow leak is internal in a seal actuator. I will demonstrate in a future video. If it is a big leak the smoke will just roll out the bottom of the door. LOL
