These look great! Fun review and love how you ran through the pairings. Ed, truly, who would not enjoy your reviews? You deserve to be at 500K subs and WAY more. Thank you again, good sir! I'm always waiting for the next one!!!!
You are so honest. You create positive aur and vibe of your reviews. Amamzing. Thank you and I will follow you. Already acredited to your paid channel. Worth! Keep on going. I like your personality so much!!!
Great review Ed! Thanks to Kevin for lending them to you. Someday have to make the trip to meet Kevin and enjoy his store. 5K subscriptions is not very far. Congratulations on your success. 🎉
I know, you should. I am heading there today for an event he is having. I may forget to load the Silver 100s in the car. Hmmm. I am old and I might forget. Gosh Kevin, I am so sorry. I will get them back to in a few years. Do you think he would buy that story? Thanks my friend.
Love these. Monitor Audio is making a lot of good moves. Q Acoustics is another one I like in this size speaker. Thumbs up to both Q and Monitor's sense of aesthetics.
Hi Ed. You are doing great work. Please keep it up. High praise here for the Monitor Audio. I have two floor standing pair circa 2003-2005. Made in the UK. I think they are pretty good. 😉
Thank you for this review, Mr Ed. I have been an MA Bronze B4 floorstanders user for over 15 years now. While there were other speakers coming and going from the system, the B4s stayed for all this time. Presently, they're driven by a WiiM Amp, and it's a very interesting experiment: not hi-end by any account, but a pleasure to listen to, really enjoyable sound, not extremely detailed but nothing to complain about either. WiiM has enough power for the big B4s, which was surprising to me. I can see the Silver 100s getting very nice reviews, and they might be my next speaker purchase. Sorry for a very long comment.
Vladimir, I appreciate your comment. The silvers are quite good and will scale up with better amplification. As will the Bronze B4s. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts with me.
I Love Thomas! He is relatable and intelligent. I love the way he includes his "audiophile buddies" in his reviews. Would really like to review the Galion....seems like a great value.
He is a good guy and has been very supportive of my efforts. The amp is very good and I believe has a secret. You will have to wait for the review. Thx.
Great detailed review! I really like Monitor Audio speakers! I am running the Monitor Audio Bronze 6G 200 speakers in our living room in a surround sound setup hooked up to a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A. For the front three channels, I decided to send preout signals to an Emotiva BasX 3 to help give the overall system a boost! The Bronze 200 floor-standing speakers system sounds great, but my living room needs a bit of room treatment and they might be a little small for our larger living room space. I also think they need to be lifted off the floor about six inches.
John, Sounds like yo have a helluva set up. Good job. ISO Acoustics makes some nice speaker stands that work fantastic. check them out here: isoacoustics.com/pro-audio-isolation-products/iso-stands/iso-155-isolation-stands/ Let me know what you think.
Hi Ed , I have the same speakers, bought them second hand in mint condition about two months ago, they sings great with my ADCOM GFA 555 MK2. Thanks so much for the review ❤
Although it was not a part of the review, I did listen to them on a GFA545 Mk2 and it was very nice. Thanks for commenting and returning to the channel.
@@OldGuyHifi I feel at home at your Channel Ed, I have the 545 as well it is my second system , it is paired with Q acoustics 3050 floorsatnder, I am sure the Silver 100 will sound good or maybe better then the 555.
@@RanTausi They did sound very good on the 545. I was using a Sparkos Gemini Tube Headphone/Pre amp feeding from my Cambridge MXN10 and it was so good. I had a pair of 3050s and wound up moving them on to one of my kids. Nice set up you have.

Ed thanks for the video. My current system allows me to just listen to the music although I’m always tinkering with the equipment. I have Rotel separates, preamp, amp and CD player streaming Qobuz with Bluesound Node 130. Arendal 1723 towers and a pair of SVS SB1000 Pro subs. Just ordered the Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC to maximize my streaming. Hope you can review the DAC in the future. I Love my music. Bobby I know you have a great system. Lucky fella. I would love to review one of the Holo units. I am sure they get a million requests from guys like me. Welcome to the 2 channel side. Thanks so much for being a part of the channel and community. I appreciate it.
Another great video, Ed. I have a hodge-podge system of older equipment that I assembled and am really enjoying listening to music through it. A Carver PM 175 power amp, a pair of Paradigm Studio 20 V3 speakers, an ADCOM GTP-400 pre amp and (since the tuner on the pre amp doesn't work) a Yamaha TX-950 tuner. At some point I'd love to get a Cambridge audio CXN 100 to replace the ADCOM, but I'm still saving up for that purchase.
Jeffery, Not a bod hodge-podge at all. I have a GTP400 & a GFA545 in house right now for review. FYI, Cambridge has an "open box"/"B" stock/"Refurb" store on eBay. That's how I got my AXR100 several years ago. You can save some pretty good money that way. A number of my viewers have gotten Cambridge gear that way and were very pleased. Thanks so much for tuning in and sharing your system.
Ed, I have heard nothing but great things about Monitor speakers. My wife looked at all my speakers because we've been packing for our move and she found out that I have 30 speakers.I'm leaving the two fronts and two rears behind in the home theater for the new owner in the home theater room but I'm on speaker hold right now. LOL Great review!
Thanks for the review. I own the same speakers but in walnut. Got them 3 or 4 years ago for under $1k. Replaced an old pair of Icon Acoustics Lumen. Love the sound, very good imaging and soundstage for a bookshelf speaker. Agree with you, they are not that bright and less fatiguing in the midrange frequencies. I used to have them on a pair of Chicago stands but now they are on the bookshelf surrounded by books and LPs. Currently they are hooked to a Peachtree Nova 150, Marantz ND 8006 Network CD Player (CD/DAC/Streamer Combo) Denon DP- 62L Turntable With Shure V15 Type IV, Nakamichi BX 300 tape deck, and REL Tzero Mk III subwoofer. Although I was never a fan of subwoofers, the REL subwoofer which i think is the smallest in their lineup provides a level of detail never heard before and a tighter lower end. There is British youtuber who owns the newer version with two subwoofers and really likes them too. I listen mostly to Jazz in vinyl and CDs but stream quite a bit of jazz stations from all over. So far very pleased with the sound.
Ed, nice job on the MA speakers. They sound interesting and worth having. Two out my 3 systems can make me stop and take notice. When I’m reading at night, I spend 3 or so hours reading. One system is a Rogue Sphinx 2 with Ladder Schumann DAC and MoFi SP8s. 2nd system is McIntosh C26/MC2002 Geshelli J2 with Sparkos and ADS L710s. Both are able to make me absolutely stop.
You have got drooling my friend. I just got my J2S (that I paid for) and am running the 2590 on single ended and man alive it is giving my beloved Bifrost a real serious run for its money. I may have a new reference DAC. Those MAs are really good on smooth gear. Image monsters. Thx so much for your support.
Interesting review! I own the big brother, Silver 300 6g and i recognize many similarities between them! For example that you have to be careful with amplifier pairing when they are a bit on the bright side of neutral. Keep it up!👍
The oldest speakers I have which have seen continuous use in my house, are Monitor Audio bipole/dipole surround speakers. Fantastic workhorses and I have never felt the need to replace them, despite all my other speakers changing around them. They must be 25years old.
I love when a product can be so satisfying over a long period of time. I have had the same sort of experience with my 34 yr old Energy 22.2s. Thanks for returning and sharing your experience.
Hi 😊 Nice to meet you (first video from you to pop up in my feed. Sub, thumb and comment done😊) The newest Silver 100 and Bronze 100, are sonicaly almost identical. I could not hear a difference, did not get a preference for one or the other when I A-B them. From what I havw read, most of the difference in the 50, 100, 200 is the finish of the cabinet, which is important also. When you get to the 300 and 500, the Silver become a 3way while Bronze stay 2.5 way, and I gues there is a bigger difference there (have not tested yet). I bought 3 pairs of bronze 100 for the bedlayer (earlevel speakers) in my hometheather, and I LOVE them. They have exeptional detail and clarity yet the bass is way better than theese small speakers have any right to produce🙊 They are combined with different brand speakers for atmos (hightspeakers) and 3 subs. Denon avc 3700h as headunit, 2 xtz a2-300, poweramps driving left, center, right and rear center. The coherency of having identical speakers (there is a center and it is normal to use that combined with towers for left/ right instead of all identical speakers) is absolutly amazing. For music, I listen in stereo or all channel stereo with surrounds and rear turned way down (just enhance the spaciousness and microdetails. Heights beeing a different speaker, are turned off). In my room theese little beasties, have good extention all the way to 23 hz (insane, I know, and they are not pushed agsinst the wall either). For music, I either run them full range or offload to subs at 40/ 60hz depending on what I listen too. For movies, I cut them off at 100hz. 3 subs, does have a bit more omph, and does the shake my neighbours house effects a bit better🙊 Long comment, but hey, that is how it is with passion, it just flows out🙊🙊🙊 Thank you for your time and effort in doing what you do. Peace, love and all that, from Norway😊
The Platinum range is really excellent for their UK price. I think that they are a great speaker for the whole family, across all genres, and, they really don't sweat anything at all. The bronze and silver ranges also are great in a surround sound set up. I have no affiliation to MA by the way, but have owned and heard them on many an occasion.
Caroline, Thank you for that great info. I found the Silvers to be a great all-rounder as well. I don't do home theater just 2 channel and they were very good. I would love to the Platinum series. Maybe Monitor will notice me and reach out. I think I will reach out to them. Thanks so much for you view and great comment.
I'm curious how these would sound with tube amplification. I would love to hear a follow up review with the Monitor Audio Silver 100's with the Galion amplifier.
I have listened to them with a Sparkos Gemini tube Headphone/Pre amp with a 12BH7 tube feeding the Galion A75 and there was some magic happening for sure. Unfortunately the Monitor Silver 100's have to go back to Des Moines this weekend so I won't be able to do that specific review. I will talk about that combo in the amp review. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great review. Monitor Audio makes hard to beat standmoınters at its range. İ have MA Bronze 2 s and punches well above its class..MA is always good at giving the details and i use them for cinema audio as well as a stereo config
I've heard from a variety of sources that the Monitors pair very well with the Cambridge CXA81. Both Silver and Bronze series. I have the CXA 81 and I think my next speakers may well have to be Monitors.
After I shot the video a CXA81 MkII showed up on my doorstep. Of course I had to listen to that combo. It was very good. Powerful bass, smooth mids, detailed highs. Huge sound stage. If I remember, I will talk about it in the CXA81 MkII review. I can recommend that pairing. Thx.
I have pair of DBR 62s that are part of my review gear. They do sound very good. Especially for the money. They are not in the same category as the Monitor Audios.
Thanks, great review! I consider buy this speaker. I have about 17x11,5 feet room. What you think is Silver 100 too big to this size room? I have Marantz Cinema 60 av-receiver. Speaker position less than 1 feet from back wall. What i have read silver 100 is design work close to wall.
@oldguyhifi what diameter are the binding posts if using spades? Want to order some jumpers/links and curious if I’ll need the stepped type or single diameter based on your measurements.

@@BoRerunn I don't think they would be a good match at all with the Fosi amp. The Fosi will be more forward and not very dynamic. The Arcam is a puzzle. They build great gear. I have heard that this unit doesn't measure very well as it seems to clip early and noisily. Here is the source for my info: www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/arcam-avr10-review.13671/ My guess is it may not be the speakers. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
Hi Ed. I’ve also heard from other reviewers that they could sound a bit on the bright side. I’m not sure if that always equates to a speaker that is forward in character-maybe that also requires a prominent midrange. Would you say these Silver 100s are forward sounding? Thanks.
A lot depends on the rest of the system. I had them running on my Cambridge EVO150 which lands to a bit of energy on top and with a one notch cut on the treble control it was very good. I don't think they would sound good on NAD or Yamaha. What kind of gear do you have?
@@OldGuyHifi I have an NAD 338 integrated, some Emotiva XPA power amps, a Purifi amp, plus loads of others, so no set system at the moment. Thanks for getting back to me.
I am not sure what you are referring to. I never mentioned chuffing as an issue in my review. I have not heard the Marantz and the Monitors together so, unfortunately I can't answer that question. Thanks for asking and watching.
Hello Thank you for a great video. Can I ask, the Axr100 amplifier you recommend for the monitor audio silver 100 7g, would this amp get the speakers bass working at maximum or is it worth getting a more powerful amp? You could probably tell I like my deep bass. If there is another speaker more powerful than the monitor audio, please recommend something. Thank you
Moshud, Yes the AXR100 would have more than enough power to get the SIlver 100's dancing. It has great dynamic power and when I used it with the Silver 100s it sounded very, very good. I listen to a lot of Electronic/Dub,/Techno/Rock music which contains lots of bass and I never felt like the AXR 100 couldn't deliver. The good news is that if you want even more bass you can always add an inexpensive sub to the system as the AXR 100 has a dedicated sub output. I hope that answers your question. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Good luck.
I worry about monitor audio being to bright for me. Gravitate to Dynaudio more. Recently heard Revival Atalante 3, found those impressive as well. But maybe I should just get some vintage Proacs.
It all depends on the equipment you are connecting to. I found for the most part they worked well with those small caveats I mentioned. Proacs are very nice. Thanks for tuning in.
Do you recommend absorption for these at the first reflection points? I ask this because of the large mid-range driver being directional towards the top of its range handing off to the small tweeter that would normally boost 2K to 8K in the room. Some manufacturers create a wave guide for that but I respect their decisions not to, some wave guides color the sound and reduce soundstage size.
Greg, My room is treated for first reflections. The room was also built specifically as a listening room. I did not notice any directionality in the cross-over range. I am sensitive to the 2kHz to 4kHz range and would notice any anomalies in the response. Great question and observation. Thx.
I’m using the first gen CXA81 with Martin Logan Motion 60 towers and occasionally a pair of first gen B&W 606S stand mounts. Do you think these have a little less shoutiness to them than the B&W’s? I may be moving into a smaller space and am looking for a stand mount to replace the big floorstanders.
Yes. The Monitor Audios are much less bright than the first gen B&W 601S. The CXA81 is a neutral to slightly warm amp that will pair well with the Silver 100s. I have a CXA81 MkII and paired the to with good results. I didn't mention in this review as I already filmed it before the CXA81 MkII has arrived. Sounded very good. Good luck with your system and thanks for being a return viewer.
Is this the 7g? I mean the tweeter looks different, and that ring around the bass driver is white on 7G, It sort of look like a hybrid of Bronze 100 and silver 100.
@@OldGuyHifi Thank you, maybe that explain the price difference too. In Norway it is around $1400, us is $1500. As far as my research go :) Nice channel, I like the details you express.
That was the price when I filmed this at the beginning of August. They are listed at $1495 as of today at Crutchfield. Link here: www.crutchfield.com/p_893S1007WH/Monitor-Audio-Silver-100-7G-Satin-White.html?tp=186
Nice review 👍 But I don't believe it ,not another galion review, this man thomas is pumping his products everywhere he can , I have got sick from all these raving galion reviews, never showing measurements results of his products , claims of power ratings distortion and frequency response ,i will skip it for sure.
Kobi, If you wish. Thomas is a very good promoter of his gear as, if you think about, there is no other way to advertise to potential clients when you are a direct to consumer reseller. Just so you know, you won't get any specs out of me on pretty much any product I review. While specs can be part of the decision making process for some folks, I place for more value on sound quality. I listen to music not specs. Thank you so much for commenting. Maybe give my review a peek? ;-)
Thomas had this to say to me about the Galion AS 75: “He [Thomas’s amp designer] told me although it would not win awards in measurements, it was overall ok.” Thomas also recommended the Topping LA90 if what I was chasing were the numbers. So he’s pretty open about things. He also sent me four FFT graphs of his amp’s performance at 10W and max power, at 4 and 8 ohms. If you’re chasing sound, this is a viable option. Myself, I’m putting the AS 75 through its paces at the moment.
@@foblivio As am I. I think Thomas was being a bit coy. I think there is more to this amp than is immediately apparent. Thanks for the view and comment.
@@foblivio my comment i refered to the valve amplifier , i would prefer some non dependant to verify his claims (for the valves) , for the solid state amplifiers it's quit easy to have low distortion and hi power and wide bandwidth,i Referred only to the valve amplifier
No worries Kobi. BTW I have one of the TS120s heading my way soon. Tube amps are always loaded with distortions because tubes are voltage devices where transistors are current devices. Because of that most tube amps have output transformers. Tube amps product even order harmonic distortions which are friendly to the ear and prized by many "audiophiles." I like tubes on the front end in a pre amp for example. I find many tube amps to be far less dynamic then their solid state brethren. I hope you will watch the review of both the Galion products. You know me, I will only focus on the sound and how it feels. Thanks so much.
I've got a linn majik I'm using as a pre amp and a linn lk85 power amp with a range of decent cd players through acoustic energy ae120s. I must admit it's sounds great but since I've moved to a smaller listening room I think the speakers might be a bit too big. How would these sound with the linn system..any opinions welcome..also looking to upgrade to a musical fidelity a3 cr pre and power amps, would that be a big upgrade over the linn set up?
I have not heard any Linn gear for 30 years. I am sorry. I don't want to render an opinion without updated info. I do remember that Linn always sounded quite good. Thx for watching and commenting. I wish I could be more help.

@@OldGuyHifi The J2s with the Sparkos punch pretty high.
Interesting review! I own the big brother, Silver 300 6g and i recognize many similarities between them! For example that you have to be careful with amplifier pairing when they are a bit on the bright side of neutral. Keep it up!👍
I will try. Thank you so much.
Great review.
Thanks so much.
Looks like a great home theater/music type of speaker.
Feliciano, They are quite good. Especially with music. Thanks so much for being a part of the channel.
Hi 😊
Nice to meet you (first video from you to pop up in my feed. Sub, thumb and comment done😊)
The newest Silver 100 and Bronze 100, are sonicaly almost identical.
They have exeptional detail and clarity yet the bass is way better than theese small speakers have any right to produce🙊
They are combined with different brand speakers for atmos (hightspeakers) and 3 subs.
3 subs, does have a bit more omph, and does the shake my neighbours house effects a bit better🙊
Long comment, but hey, that is how it is with passion, it just flows out🙊🙊🙊
Thank you for your time and effort in doing what you do.
Peace, love and all that, from Norway😊
Thank you so much for the kind words and your view and comment.
1I have the 7g and they are amazing!!! In the racing green to boot! I used them with Marantz PM6006. They need some breakin and the bass fills in .
Nice.
Kevinnnnnnnn!
I need to hear the new ones. 🎉
Me too. BTW, I just sub'd.
Great review. Monitor Audio makes hard to beat standmoınters at its range. İ have MA Bronze 2 s and punches well above its class..MA is always good at giving the details and i use them for cinema audio as well as a stereo config
I do like their sound. Thx for watching and commenting.
Thx.
Thanks! By the way, if I have a Qobuz playlist, how can I se d that to you?
I think I need those Monitors. Bronze or Silver? Hmmm.. I'm using Elac BBR 62 speakers which also sound good.
They should be fine in that room. No worries. Thx & Happy Holidays.
Nice review Ed 👍
Wondering how does it compare to b&w 606 s3? Which one will you think better pair with marantz 8006?
I haven't heard either of them so I can't render an opinion. Sorry. Thx for asking though. Happy New Year.
@ no worries. Happy New Year too Ed
@oldguyhifi what diameter are the binding posts if using spades?
Want to order some jumpers/links and curious if I’ll need the stepped type or single diameter based on your measurements.
I don't know. You might check Monitor's web site to see. Because I am always plugging and unplugging, I use banana plugs. Sorry.

Dziękuję bardzo za miłe słowa. Bardzo się cieszę, że masz świetny system, który sprawia ci radość. Cieszę się, że mogłem pomóc Ci w Twojej podróży. Bardzo dziękuję.
Very informative review! I would probably find these too bright.
They sound very warm to me on a nad 390DD
I own the Bronze 100 and they sound so clear but dull almost raspy. I'm undecided too sell them or not
What amp are you using to run them?
@@OldGuyHifi usually Arcam AVR10 or small Fozi amp
@@BoRerunn I don't think they would be a good match at all with the Fosi amp. The Fosi will be more forward and not very dynamic. The Arcam is a puzzle. They build great gear. I have heard that this unit doesn't measure very well as it seems to clip early and noisily. Here is the source for my info: www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/arcam-avr10-review.13671/ My guess is it may not be the speakers. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
Hi ☕️🥓…these look very interesting 🧐
They are quite good and as used items I think a bargain. Thanks for returning to the channel.
@@foblivio Anytime sir. Thank you.
chuffing at high levels ? Is a Marantz PM 6007 good enough ?
I am not sure what you are referring to. I never mentioned chuffing as an issue in my review. I have not heard the Marantz and the Monitors together so, unfortunately I can't answer that question. Thanks for asking and watching.
Do you give them the Gold?
Lol.
Good luck.
Thank you so much for getting back to me. Much appreciated.
Can they be run on a 150 watts
Yes. Any speaker can.
@ thank you
Great review of the speakers, but this review is shocking to me 😢
How?
@OldGuyHifi 5:12 mark 😢 LOL you are great Ed.
Is this the 7g? I mean the tweeter looks different, and that ring around the bass driver is white on 7G, It sort of look like a hybrid of Bronze 100 and silver 100.
It is the first generation of the Silver 100, hence the difference. Thanks for checking in.
@@OldGuyHifi Thank you, maybe that explain the price difference too. In Norway it is around $1400, us is $1500. As far as my research go :) Nice channel, I like the details you express.
@@katie_0258 Thank you. I appreciate that.
1500 ? they should be 1300 dollars or just a little above 1100 euros
That was the price when I filmed this at the beginning of August. They are listed at $1495 as of today at Crutchfield. Link here: www.crutchfield.com/p_893S1007WH/Monitor-Audio-Silver-100-7G-Satin-White.html?tp=186
Nice review 👍
But I don't believe it ,not another galion review, this man thomas is pumping his products everywhere he can , I have got sick from all these raving galion reviews, never showing measurements results of his products , claims of power ratings distortion and frequency response ,i will skip it for sure.
@@foblivio my comment i refered to the valve amplifier , i would prefer some non dependant to verify his claims (for the valves) , for the solid state amplifiers it's quit easy to have low distortion and hi power and wide bandwidth,i
Referred only to the valve amplifier
