Finally worked for me! Tried 4 times. Didn't work. Decided to follow one of your comments saying that you should try with the front door if it didn't work. I hesitated BC. The screw hole was stuffed with a plastic filler. Decided to remove it. Lucky it can be put back on again easily. Did it one time with the front door. Now it finally works! Thank you so much. Volvo V60 2011.
OMG!! That is worked of my 2014 V60 PHEV car! None of the doors have worked until now! I cleaned all doors including the front doors and now all door work very well. Thank you!
Hi Jacob. None of the doors of my v60 worked anymore. I cleaned both rear door connectors and got the back doors working again. It appears that the front doors suffer from the same issue so I recommend following the same procedure for all four doors. Procedure identical for all doors. Driver door mechanism is slightly different but just follow the same procedure. Now all four doors work fine again !! You made my day !! Many thanks and compliments for the clear instructions.
Thank you very much for this video! All my Volvo V60 2011 doors stopped working years ago. I gave this a go and I got all doors working. Still can’t believe it. Good that you included the failure as I would have given up after first try. I had to do also twice the door and one even three times to get them working. Really appreciate you taking time to share this trick.
Worked on my 2012 S60 T5! It did take about 2-3 attempts for each door, but after some sprays of WD-40 electrical contact cleaner and some diligent scraping of the contacts with a needle and flathead screwdriver, every door went from not working at all to working pretty much consistently! Thanks so much for the help!
Your video is great! It worked for all the doors! My dealer wanted to replace the receivers of both back doors. You saved me several hundreds of €uro's! Thanks and keep on doing this great work!
Thank you for sharing this video! I was able to fix all my volvo v40 cc doors. It was great to see you fail at the first time because it happened for me also with one door. I knew that it still might get fixed if I keep doing it because you were also. :)
You saved me lots of $$$ with this video!!! I had the same issue with my passenger front door lock and now it’s working again thanks to your instructions. Thank you so much!!!
Your video is just awesome.... When I think Volvo dealer told me the solution would be changing door handles. I cleaned both rear handles only and it fixed all 4 doors. Thank you for this nice topic !
Hi Jacob, thank you for this video and instructions. It worked the second time for me too... but more important it did work and saved me $1,500.00 Canadian dollars from the dealership. Your the Man!!
Hey mate, just wanted to thank you! Did this wee trick on my 2013 S60 today. Thought it should be the same since most components are interchangeable and now my driver door is working again! Good stuff and thanks again!
Thx for this video - I have just been through the procedure. I would have LOVED one more info - keep the screwdriver in, and keep pressuring it when removing the door handle. This would have saved me one hours work when removing and reinstalling. The mechanism locked, and I had to make a tool to move it forward in order to reinstall the handle ;-)
This works! I have a 2014 s60 and I figured it would be the same. At first it didn't work and was a bit demoralized but I tried it again the next day and it worked after the third time on the rear left door. The rear right was still working. I did this as well on the front passenger side. After two attempts it works. Now 3 of the 4 doors work. I will try the driver side another day. I used a 6 inch t25 bit from home depot and was plenty long enough. I also used the husky precision bit to scrape the connector but even the smallest flat head I felt like was bit big. I used the connector cleaner from Canadian Tire to clean the connectors.
Thank you very much. Had this problem one year ago on the right side. Costs me about $800.- to fix it by the dealer. He changed the sensor and the cable. 😞 Now i had the same problem on the left side. For me it doesnt work on the back door. I had to do the same on the front door. But its so easy. No problem to fix it. Now everything works perfectly.
Hi man, thank you for a great tutorial video. I have Volvo v40 2013 and i assume that they have a same problem and the same fix. I going to try that tip, hope that works for me also.😊
THANK YOU!!! You are a genius. Just like you, it worked on the second attempt. Volvo would have charged me hundreds just to identify the problem and then more to fix it. Do you have a solution for parasitic battery drain on S60?
Worked on booth back doors on my V40 2013. One door also on the second try. 100mm screw driver on a V40 is enough. Thank you very much! #VolvoDriversGermany
Great vid, does the trick. I also found it didn't work first time too (or second) but in doing more research found if you drive the car, keyless system resets. Hey presto, keyless now works!
Excellente video, je vais essayer sur mon V60 D5 AWD MY12, celui-ci ne fonctionne jamais donc je vais suivre vos instructions et je vous ferai un retour! merci encore d'avoir partager vos connaissances
Any tips on how to get the left back door handle to pop back in place at the end. Was able to do it on right hand side. Left hand side, I tighten the screw and handle doesn’t pop back to flush (normal) position.
Hi Jacob, Thank you for the video! I guess I did it do it correctly. The T shape of the handle cannot click in, it’s loose and does not work. Could you make a video to show how to use a hock to take the medal holding T shape? Thank you!
You man are a fckn rockstar! Worked on my 2013 s60. Thanks for taking the time! (I did the same on front doors as well , also applied some canned air after the rust removal) let’s see how long until next time
It works in v40 2014!! But got sweat when the first handle-mechanism got inside and couldn’t put handle back! It did not lock on the begining. Now everything works!!! Thank you so much!! Saved a lot of money!!!!
Thanks, all my S60 handles are working again. I also had to do the front door (watch out for the driver's door - you need to push the little beak underneath, which is there because of the door lock)
I’m having trouble on my S60! Back drivers side, can’t get the handle to pop back to normal after taking all steps described in video. The other side back door handle did pop back into place after I performed the maintenance. But the other side just won’t pop back when screw is tightened.
Thanks, it works perfect but it´s neccesary to do it also in the front doors. Driver´s lock is a little different but it´s also easy to do. Thanks again!
Some extra information: (1) The actual length from the door panel to the T25 screw is about 86mm / 3.4in. You will actually need a shank that is slightly longer. (2) The 5 turns is good advice, but you will also feel a slight resistance in the turning when you get to the correct point for stopping. Do *NOT* force the screw once you feel this resistance!
It worked on my front passenger doors for couple of times and again doesn't, but rear passenger door still not opening, what guys did you done on the contacts, or what the guy did with screwdriver ?? Thanks
I have a 2016 V60 D6, but the keyless doesn't work on any of the doors. Also i have to put the key in the ignition to start, it wont detect the key at all. My first thought was the key battery, but i replaced the batteries on both keys and they still don't work. Will this fix it?

Yeah. I know that is other way to remove the handle but i asked if its work on the same way. It's about rust in the connections and whether it can cause the door not to close when you click the rubber button. In my case, the door opens, the problem is with closing it.
Hi Jacob - this is an excellent instructional video - really really clear. Should this also work for a 2016 XC60..? I've found the hole to the handle, used a T25 Torx, pulled the handle out and turned the screw five times, but I cannot get the back part of the handle to pop off as you've shown - and I am reluctant to turn the screw more in case it drops within the door... Is there some other trick I am missing? Thanks in advance!
If you have not removed it the correct way. (Twist the T25 screw anti clockwise 5 times, when holding the handle out) it is very likely you have broken the inner part if you have turend the T25 screw more than 5 times. But it could be possible to use a hock or something to drag the metal thing that clamps around the back of the T-shape of the handle. It is hard to explaine.

Hello. What if I forgot to keep handle open while I’m unscrew the torx 😬 I have done all steps and key less works perfect but after I want to put the car handle back, I don’t have that “click” and handle is loose and not working 🥺
You have to use some hock or something to gett the plastic part that holds the handel inside the door, while holding this out. You have to screw the skrew out. Hard to describe.

I had to make it around 8-10 times before I was able to put it out. Also noticed there's a metal barrier to prevent dropping the screw.
Would this work on the V40 2014 model too
