Tool Reaction Video
Tool becomes even more surprising when you find out Danny only has 2 arms
maybe he has 3 feet?
haha so true and that he can do this stuff live :P
I literally lol.
No waaaaaaaaaaaay ? You mean he's... what... human ?
I saw them live back when they were touring after this album and they had to have three percussionists on stage at one point. Danny was playing his regular kit and they had someone playing bongo looking things and the third guy with like steel drums or something.
Dude simultaneously calls out the Fibonacci on first listen and talks about Tool like they're Mozart.
He's not wrong though.
Exactly.
And only pointing out the music rhythm.... and NOT the lyrical pattern.
Lol not to take anything away from this guy's musical prowess, but he did mention in his previous video that he was going to react to this song next BECAUSE of the fibonacci thing, so, he did actually already know about it beforehand. It would be pretty remarkable to pick up on something like that without knowing in advance.
I'm stunned that he caught Fibonacci in a first listen.
No one picks out the fibonacci code by listening. He heard about it before hand, thats all
Him: "Fuck this is so good"
Millions of fans in unison: Nod while smiling.....
Literally me just now haha
@@claymiller2409 Same just now
Need that Jack Nicholson big nodding grin .gif here
Right! 🤘
Man I remember the first time I heard this song. I felt my conscience evolve 😂
Not only you pick up the Fibonacci rhythm pattern immediately and explain its origins, but also you understand its natural connection with the spiral, which is in the lyrics. My utmost respect to you, sir.
Very impressive indeed, you can clearly see he has enough experience and knowledge in the matter not the usual reactor you see trending around
He was spot on, you are spot on, I was thinking the exact same thing. I was actually scrolling through the comments for this comment because I was going to make it if you didn't. This guy is great! I'm a subscriber now
faked.
Not even just the fibonacci rhythm, but the syllables of the lyrics follow the sequence as well.
Yes, yes, yes!
There's something really cool about watching people find Tool.
because its pretty sharing knowledge, its more than just music. Well its what art was always supposed to be, but we've reduced most of art into its component parts to make it easier to sell. Its that feeling of someone getting the same development or experience out of something as you have knowing what kind of effect it could have on their future.
Agreed
Agree, and with what nick said. It’s literally a synchronized art form, especially with Laterallus which was wrote WITH THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE lmao
I think it's because you can relive hearing it for the first time a little...vicariously if you will hehe, especially if someone is knowledgeable enough to really appreciate it
🤘
Dude, you're a composer, you know stuff about music, pause and speak all you want, that's what's gonna make your channel different from others
Honestly you can't please everyone. Some people hate pausing, some love it. Personally, I do it, but I've had so many comments complaining because I pause. :D
@@FriedTheo people that hate pausing are just trying to listen to music with a stranger nodding their head to it.

@@JungleScene Weird right. Who would want that?
Exactly !
You’re so right I love kinda in depth like substantial commentary on the music and the words and everything. I love this song if I wanted to just soak it in I’d go listen to the audio myself:))
Geebz-"We don't have to go into some cerebral school on this."
Tool fans- "Please?"
Pretty much. I was ready to go cerebral.
I'm here for the cerebral. Can we swing on a spiral for a bit?
Tool fans married to even bigger Tool fans seeing him pick up on things is like watching a kid walk for the first time.
This guy is adorable.
Lol 😂 we love to hear it
Precisely what I was thinking!
Watching someone discover Tool is like being part of someone's 1st acid trip
Yes, yes!!!
Lmfao
"This magic moment..."
This couldnt be explained better
i actually wasn't into them on my first listening of aenima. told the kid who brought it to not bring it back i didn't want anything to do with it. skip ahead a few years or so and H was pretty much on loop while i was playing online games.
sometimes people aren't ready, don't give them flack, just accept it and bide your time. tool can bring around just about everyone with enough time.
"we dont need to get too cerebral.."
me, watching a tool reaction: "... thats... why im here.."
This made me fucking crack up.
It's like witnessing an awakening..... Only TOOL does that!
It takes a while for people to realize that the Tool fanbase doesn't casually listen to this type of music.
YES!!!
@@zxq9419 right on! Tools music can't simply be listened to, it's an entire experience.
Tool playing in the background, stuffed animals from the abyss staring through my soul, a children's book for a touch of contrast, an elder musician who has no clue what he's doing but knows exactly what he's talking about.. UA-cam's been reading my diary again.
OMG I'm dying laughing - the best 🤙🤙
As we say in southern Indiana SFttC, "That there's funny!"

12:20 says "wow" and proceeds to rub his third eye.... Welcome to TOOL my friend.
I can see his respect for tool ... Love it
He reacts to this song how you want all your buddies to react when you show them a song
Hell yeah.
How many times have we tried to show tool to people, and try so hard to get them to get it ... just for a blank stare.
Ugh!
This guy gets it.
This comment is my only wish. Everytime I show a newbie to Tool i always look at them out the corner of my eye and gauge their response on a physical level. Not a lot of people do that.
Yeah dude! WTF I never thought of that! And I've been tryin to explain why Tool is such a great band, for like, 25 years.
Agree l love watching his mind work .
This is THE comment. I have no shame that I feel what I do. I could care less if I seem like a Jehovah’s Witness to those I push Tool on, it’s to their benefit.
If there's one thing Tool fans love, its experts that discover Tool's genius production and skill. A drum expert will always love Danny, guitar guys will appreciate Justin and Adam, and vocal coaches will sing all the praises of Maynard, but people who actually understand music production are the guys who love it all
I know nothing of production but I play guitar, bass, and drums and I get it lol.
Check out rick beato!
6.5 minutes in. This guy is my favorite music reaction already. I get to enjoy Tool. I get to watch him discover tool. And I get to learn something!?!? BOOM. Can’t say I’ve seen another reaction that pulled Fibonacci out of this with their own ears and expertise before. Bravo man. Bravo.
Agree
And if you ask my ears, Lateralus is the best sounding album of all time. That helps :)
Bro, you go ahead and talk all you want. It's your channel. Atleast you got real shit to say. Other reactors pause just to run their mouth. Your giving an actual analysis. I have absolute respect for that. So by all means, it's your reaction pause and talk about whatever you want brother. I think you do a great job. Can't wait to see you do more TOOL. The greatest band of all time in my opinion.
Couldn’t agree more. I’m just super stoked that he seems sooo interested in what the band is doing. ✨
100000% agree with u man. Tool is no doubt the greatest band ever. And I’ve never seen a reactor that can break everything down and catch every little subtle difference in the song like this guy. Mad respect
100%
Yeah, take your time, you can talk about stuff we can't begin to fathom, at least in my case I have almost no musical experience so you are just giving me more reasons to like the band.
these 4 guys are each GODS at their craft! NOONE even comes close to these guys.opiates and TOOL the greatest combination ever!
Him recognising the Fibonacci Sequence in this song on the first listen and without reading into it is absolutely amazing :)
im so jealous of people like you that don't realise he obviously researched this before the video.
@@jasonjenkins6373 sarcasm?
@@Djdjipe Nah, you just can't imagine composers knowing their shit. Doug Helvering figured it out as well. Composers always think about music in terms of maths.
you know only because you didn't know about it when you first heard lateralus, doesn't mean that he didn't either. Guy has been a composer in hollywood, he probably knows more about music than we 2 could ever imagine. So don't go at him like that if you don't know for sure @@Djdjipe

I have a sister who went to Hawaii for about 6 months for a job and said that it’s obnoxiously windy there all of the time. She’s a weirdo though
. she don't like the fact its windy who cares
@@JinxMarie1985 this is the UA-cam comments. None of the shit we say here ultimately matters. But to respond, I said obnoxiously windy. There’s a clear difference there implying that it’s to the point of being unpleasant. Some people find parts of the world that are abundantly rainy (Eg Vancouver, Seattle) as unpleasant as well, for instance. It’s simply an observation. Feel free to ignore.
6:15 You hit the nail right on the head. The band writes music without Maynard. Maynard hears what they create and writes lyrics based on what he hears from the rest of the band. That is why Maynard fits into that pocket so perfectly. It's because that is the space he finds in the music. This is why tool takes their sweet ass time writing albums. Their writing process is insane and they are perfectionists.
Maynard is connected....🤘😊🤘😍😍😎😍😍
Although I've watched interviews with Maynard saying in not so many words that it gets abundantly tedious waiting for the music to finish. He really wants to write his lyrics and make it work, and then the band will change something and have to start his lyrics over. That would make me rage. Lol
How on earth would someone pick up on the fibonacci so quickly. I'm impressed.
He's a composer.
If you already knew about it’s concept then it’s pretty apparent in the song
they wouldn't, don't be so credulous
@@SubtleSerpent you're saying a guy with a degree in music doesn't know a musical signature when he hears it?
Better yet, a composer?
Which is more likely, that he picked it up and knew it for what it was on the fly, or that he stumbled upon it while reading about Tool, a band he has become a fan of. Just because he says he is going in blind doesn't mean you have to believe it like an idiot child would. Have some self respect.
IMHO, Lateralus is Tool's greatest song. Tool, the fine dining of heavy metal.
I agree with the fine-dining thing lol
Agreed. Lateralus is their masterpiece.
Mine is Reflections. And most of the new album.

This guy nailed the whole concept of this song just by understanding time signatures. Amazing
He is full of shit.... he listened to the song and read the background on this song before he made the video.

Same everytime with Lateralus. It's like Dante's journey from hell to heaven
This is exactly what I’m looking for when I’m looking for tool reactions. I am a musician, producer, and an earlier life was a engineer in my younger days. To be able to hear someone of your caliber react and break down these songs is so magnificent as a lifelong tool fan. Please let this be just the beginning I would love to hear you just go through the entire tool catalog. Their first couple albums are very gritty and to the point and then all of a sudden when you get to Aenema push the boundaries of musical limits and songwriting and ended up with masterpiece after masterpiece after masterpiece. I’m willing to bet you’re going to enjoy them all and I’m going to hope and pray that you react to them all as well as I will be 100% engrossed in your reactions.
Agree 100%,!!! I would love to see this old guy take the journey from the beginning and witness the phenomenal growth in this band, both musically and spiritually. I think he would very much appreciate it.
I usually do not care for reaction videos, but I have gone down a TOOL reaction rabbit hole, and Geebz is the best reaction yet.
This! => "Their first couple albums are very gritty and to the point and then all of a sudden when you get to Aenema push the boundaries of musical limits and songwriting and ended up with masterpiece after masterpiece after masterpiece."
For me personally Aenima is the greatest emotional rollercoaster, but still a little rough around the edges here and there.
Lateralus still is a beautiful journey, but cleaned up and dare i say a little more laid back.
Anyway, those two albums are my favs.
There's a LOT of us who will watch every Tool reaction you do. Every. Single. One.
As someone who’s been a HUGE fan of Tool, it’s unbelievably satisfying to watch people who might’ve never experienced a Tool journey otherwise, let alone someone like yourself who understands the process in-studio. It gives a decades long fan like myself, a whole new appreciation for the pure genius we get to witness. My eyes were welling up from happiness by the end. Thank you, and please do more Tool reactions! ☮️🌀

So TOOL has a very special space in my heart, and life..I once lamented to a client that my grandfather was a jazz musician, multi instrumentalist and that the music Gene skipped me, as I have no musical or instrumental skill. "A nice toss up in the rhythm." Love when people discover Tool
This song is ABSOLUTELY using the Fibonacci sequence, if anyone didnt tell you. Maynard and friends specifically worked it into this album and this song.
Check this out:
Lateralus’s title-track’s introduction lasts one minute and 12 seconds and the numbers 0, 1, 1, 2 are the first four in the Fibonacci sequence. The first verse kicks in on 97 seconds, which is approximately 1.618 minutes, i.e. the golden ratio. Each verse is also 55 seconds long, which is the 11th number in the sequence. The syllables in those verses match the sequence too, peaking at 13 (coincidentally, the same number of total album tracks) and then again in a descending order thereafter. Furthermore, the time signature of the song’s main riff is 9/8, 8/8 and 7/8, and 987 is the 17th number in the sequence.
Maynard on Rogan said nope! Is he probably fucking with us? Yep! Lol
the beauty of the song is that every single note was written according to these principles, and probably 2/3 of the lyrics are like "hey, quit thinking about it so much and just enjoy the feeling of it. embrace the nature of the universe showing itself through music." and you can't help but do just that, because it's so beautiful.

I thought it was the Fellatio Sequence! I'M SO CONFUSED ANYMORE!!!
I first heard this song coincidentally when I was becoming a parent for the first time and reading a lot about child development, and the fact that the lyrics reference the visual perception development of infants (b/w, then red and yellow, before full color perception) just blew me away. I love this track.
thank you for that knowledge! I didn't pick up on that in all of these years.
Those are also the colours of the Native American medicine wheel. Aboriginal from Canada here. Tool has some strong ties to aboriginals in the desert states. Lipan conjuring is strong example of this :)
It's also kinda correlative to how human languages tend to develop. Black, white, red, and yellow are usually the first colors a language develops because they are necessary for survival. Other colors come later on (blue usually being one of the last - hence why the ancient Greeks called the ocean "wine dark"!). Dunno if that relates to the song, but given the theme of growth, and the way civilizations grow much in way people grow... maybe?
Wow, I never made that connection before. Its interesting that language developed the same way. The first colors in any language was b/w then red. Yellow and green are sometimes switched but blue is always last.
Wow, I just became a father for the first time 16 months ago. I love this song and can’t count the number of times I’ve heard this song. I’ve never put the colors together as the color perception development after being born. Mind blown away again!
The Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio are present in this song throughout, even the syllables in the lyrics. 1 black 1 then 2 white are 3 all I see 5 in my infancy 8 red and yellow then came to be 5 reaching out to me 3 let’s me see

I don't understand why this is so important to everyone. Maynard even said he doesn't care.
Dude, talk as much as you want. At least you have something to say. Welcome to the Army, good sir!
You know you're turned onto Tool when you start "rocking" back and forth.
Adam Jones is capable of playing traditional and technical riffs...but he says he usually ends up treating his guitar parts as more of a separate/extra vocal part. Perfect for this band. You literally couldn't replace anyone in this band and end up with "Tool". They are also aware of this fact as Danny AND Maynard have said separately that "We're just gonna keep writing music together until one of us dies or something."
Respect for the call out on monetization.
In the release interview for Lateralus with Rolling Stone, Tool said they were moved by the harsh criticism of Aenima being too simple, musically. They wanted to create a deeper, more technical sound with Lateralus. It is their most meditative CD for sure. To see Aenima and Lateralus being reviewed so much across the tube... 20+ years after they were released. It shows the critics were wrong. If you go back and listen to Opiate and Undertow, you will be able to see why they were signed to a 5 album contract so early in their career. Please name other bands that were signed to a 5 album contract with a major label after their first full length LP. I don't know any others.
I could be completely wrong. But I believe nirvana was given a four or five album deal by Geffen after they did Nevermind.
And ya know what, I couldn’t find that info online as I searched just now. I remember reading it in the book Heavier than Heaven. But... who knows, could be misremembering

My opinion may not mean much. I’m a future drummer that longs to accomplish this song before I die. This is my all time most favorite song. And my favorite part is when the drums aren’t even playing in the mid sequence. It’s a masterpiece and I can draw inconceivable amounts of drive and motivation from the roller coaster of a song this is. Words can’t even express the feelings I get from this song.
Don't ever give up on this dream. Patience and practice.
Sean is right. Also, look at Neil Peart's (R.I.P) drummer for Rush. The Frankfurt, Germany solo is great too. Always good to learn from multiple sources. GOOD LUCK!!!
Great reaction video. Tool is such a deep rabbit hole that never seems to end. You might enjoy watching the drummer's (Danny Carey) drum cam on their song Pneuma played live. He is truly amazing and it's a great video with great production and sound. Watching him switch between such complex time signatures so easily and effortlessly is quite awe inspiring.
it's great when you watch the Pneuma reaction video of other drummers and they flat out admit they can't do what Danny did or can't figure out the time signature. To me that's the real mark of measuring how special of an artist Danny Carey is.
Welcome to the Tool Army my friend.
Lateralus is one of the few songs that draws you in deeper with every new listen. Perhaps one of the only songs in the world where I don't think ANYONE needs medicine to achieve divinity while listening.
I'm late, but if you haven't watched the drum cam of Danny performing this song, you definitely should. At one point he puts a stick under one arm, still drumming with the other, grabs a mallet, and smacks a gong. It's beautiful.
Seeing your face when you were trying to figure it out and saying stuff like "Wow! That's so cool!" made me really happy. Because of how my brain works it's always rushing so when I can focus on a complex song and workout the time signatures, tempos, instruments and their quirks, etc it really makes me happy. I can't explain it. I've always been weird and it's tough to explain myself sometimes but it's amazing. Music is one of the few things I know that can help me focus as I get distracted easily. I'm always trying to multitask.
Tool in general has helped me by giving me the tools necessary for many things in life. It's then about me learning to use said tools and the music helps with that too. I was already on a path of becoming a better me when Tool showed up in my life. Letting go of our ego, having patience, letting go of grudges, realize we are more together than apart. In a spiritual way, we are one all connected. It gets super deep but I thank this band for saving my life this time. Before it was Deftones for other reasons. I had emotions I needed to let out. But Tool is about wisdom and curiosity and I thank them for teaching me so much.
Sorry to get all weird. Tool is my favorite band of all time, as you can already tell. 😂
OMG yes, next he needs to react to Deftones! But after all the Tool songs of course. lol
“Haha, Fuck this is so good!” It wasn’t because of the “Ginkoba.” I love it.

Amazed to hear you say that the pattern emerged from India. You know what you are talking about. Can't wait to see more reactions.
We're here for the analysis, that's what makes your perspective so cool and unique, keep it coming. Side note watching your face light up is the closest a lot of us will ever get to hearing it again for the first time, it's an absolute delight to watch.
The entire album Lateralus is a masterpiece.
I live on a small island as well. . For the last 28 years you keep an ear out for when these 4 blokes may tour and pray you can get hold of tickets, spend a small fortune for flights accommodation rentals and other things and thank the heavens that i am alive in the time of TOOL. .
you should do Schism next. And yes, song uses the Fibonacci Sequence not only within the music but also within the syllables of the lyrics. Great catch and great reaction.
It also uses it in the fact it is the center of the album and circles out....... there is a pattern not only in the song but the album....
@@scottkidder8631 Also, do audio only!
He did do Schism next (or next-next).
You're the first person I've witnessed listening to this song for the first time and picking up on the Fibonacci aspect without being prompted. Wonderful stuff =D
However he didn't mention the Ladder Alice
There's nothing better than watching someone else geek out to TOOL!
"That right there was like the stream of power of consiousness was jabbed right into my head, my soul"
Me too man.
On top of the use of the Fibonacci Sequence, Tool is also known for using polyrythems and polymeters in regards to time signatures. Their music is very complex, and Maynards lyrics are usually incredibly cerebral and emotional. I know people who don't even like Rock that love this band. Every member is at the absolute top of their game in terms of their professions. The Drummer Danny Carey is quite simply the greatest Rock drummer alive today. Keep diving down the rabbit hole that is Tool, you will not be disappointed.
EDIT: for what it's worth, you just got yourself another subscriber
He must ride the spiral, if you will.
I love when someone immediately understands the dynamic of Tool
Adam Jones is in my opinion an extremely underrated guitar player because his style isn't flashy or virtuosic but his sensibility and skill for finding and using the space in between Danny and Justin is incredible. Tool is a heavily rhythm driven band and Adam Jones fills his role perfectly bridging the gap between bass and drums and bringing everything together
"Let's just keep going"
*under breath* "fuck this is so good!"
😄
Descending would blow you away too. The visual impression that comes from that piece is incredible. I love how their music can do that.
Well, you just listened to Tool's masterpiece. Don't despair, they have multiple masterpieces. Great overall reaction.
i love how he recognizes danny’s insane talent after only two reactions to tool 💜
"Not gonna get into that"
No, no. Please do.
This song is an absolute masterpiece on infinite levels.
Yes. Fibonacci influenced in the syllabi, layered with the content of the lyrics, layered with the audio effects and engineering, layered with the guiding belief system that has conspired to dictate Maynards own perspective and passions. Holistic. Meditative. Jungian philosophy influences.
It becomes organic. All- encompassing. A juxtaposition of being simultaneously intrinsically primal yet incredibly advanced. Very nuanced.
This track progression of this album seems to have been custom made for plugging in the headphones, then laying on a deserted beach or mountaintop at midnight -- just to watch the stars dance above while contemplating the existence of creation and the futility of our own brief existence. Yes. Yes, I have.
A life expectancy of 80 years on a planet that is 4.6 billion years old. Spiral out!
This video explains the fibonacci influence, amazing!

Damn.
*standing ovation*
This is one reason I used to have a Tool album in my car for 3-6 months straight. Enjoying all the creative masterpieces and understanding them is a Badass feeling. Always finding something new in a song you’ve heard a thousand times is like reading a book from millennia ago
Used to? ;)
I'll play something else, but I always come right back..
@@Itsunclegabby actually yea I still listen to them a lot...just now not on CDs lollll
Lateralus is the greatest song of all time. Can't change my mind.
I with team Jae Sea
There’s nothing else like it. Seriously. They REALLY raised the bar with this album.
I want to pick something above Lateralus sometimes but nothing ever gets me like this song does, even eighteen years after hearing it for the first time.
The Raven That Refused To Sing?
But I can agree with your mind!
I just want you to listen to live "Pneuma" version, with Danny Carey cam.
You will be amazed. And it's an understatement.
someone should talk to the band about incorporating more motorcycle
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
LMAO
hahaha
Ahaha
🤣 I'm dead!!! 👐👏
Love your channel. Keep them coming
These videos are an absolute joy, it's so cool to hear you share your music engineering expertise!
That was awesome. Thank you so much for giving us more Tool reactions and even when you get to longer tracks, don't worry, the #toolarmy loves the long videos. ❤️ It would be great if you reacted to Invincible or 7empest. 😁
P. S. I can relate to being an old person. I'll be 71 this month.
some people say this might be the best rocksong of the 21st century and i think they are right.
Love it man. Nice work
I’m loving this channel! Please keep it up! Thank you for your content! 🙏
“A forever impression on the soundtrack of our lives”. Nicely done ✅
PINK FLOYD + LED ZEPPELIN + RUSH =
🔥👽TOOL👽🔥
I can agree. My dad's favorite band was Rush.(my dad's a drummer, btw). I played some tool for him and he loved it.
Watching your mind melt is me every time I listen to them. Something new every time, never disappoints! So happy you are doing them!!
I would have to say this has been my favorite video of yours. I enjoy the enthusiasm and knowledge as the song progresses. I do appreciate the pauses with breakdowns as well. Thanks man.
"Sonic Art" what a great yet simple explanation of Tool
Absolutely .
I’ve described them as “sonic cathedral” .
From packaging to the audio nuances their albums are splitting at the seems with esoteric meaning. One could listen to these songs a thousands times and find new sounds , lyrical interpretations, and life changing numinous experiences.
