"It's An Awful Feeling" - Titanic Reporter Breaks Down Talking About Missing Submersible

  • Опубліковано 19 чер 2023
  • Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by friend of explorer billionaire Hamish Harding, who is currently missing on the Titanic wreckage tourist submersible, Jannicke Mikkelsen, retired US Navy submarine captain Lieutenant David Marquet and the first journalist to report from the Titanic wreckage Dr. Michael Guillen to discuss the latest on the missing sub and the likelihood of survival for the five people onboard.
Piers asks David about the likelihood of survival and he explains that due to the way the vehicle was constructed and having no communication that there is a slim to no chance of being able to find the vehicle in time.
Michael then becomes emotional whilst describing his personal experience of being down that far in a submersible which was stuck for an extended amount of time and the feeling of being "utterly hopeless". He describes it as an "awful feeling" and sympathises with the people on board and their families for what they must be going through.

The worst thing about dying like this is having time to think about it while being completely helpless, and knowing you paid for this tragedy. God have mercy on them.

As many have stated it was probably an implosion and if that’s the case it would’ve been instant. They wouldn’t have felt anything. Hopefully they’re ok but if not then hopefully it was as quick and painless as possible.

What a complete nightmare. This would be one of my worst fears. Being trapped in a small space 13000 feet down on the bottom of the ocean, freezing cold and gasping for air in Pitch Darkness. It's like being buried alive. I would completely go out of my mind.

Dr. Guillen is clearly suffering from PTSD, yet what a kind and gentle person he is to contribute to this conversation. The fate of the Titanic was avoidable and the lives lost was tragic. Now here with the Titan submersible we have history repeating itself. So sad for the friends and families of those whose lives are lost.

Thank you Dr. For your perspective on what it felt like to be in that situation. It was obviously meant for you to be here. And Thank God for you’re kind, gentleness, and wisdom. Especially when u spoke on the fact( in another interview) that we must remember that “the
titanic is more than just a ship wreck, it’s a very sacred place in which men, women and children died”. I’m with you, something’s we shouldn’t mess with. God continue to show us all that when we delve into certain things that we are standing on dangerous grounds. Thank you Dr. I’m glad you’re here with us. Take care!!!

Why would you want to “see it up close”?? What’s to see ? A big rusty piece of metal ?
You can’t touch it, you can’t explore it, it’s too deep to really do anything with it. Thats worth your life ? To see it ?
Aren’t there documentaries on TV where cameras were sent down and took videos ? Can’t that suffice ? You aren’t going to get much of a better picture than that anyway and you can do it from the safety and comfort of your sofa in your home. So many people perished on the Titanic as it is. It’s hard to fathom why others would purposely risk their lives to go “look” at it.

I have studied about the Titanic since it was found. I was obsessed with it. Have tons of books about it, have a model, collectibles and have been to a few Titanic exhibits. But despite my fascination with the ship, you couldnt pay me enough to dive down to it. And why, for the very reason we are all watching these clips. My fear would always be the submersible becoming trapped on the ocean floor and not able to rise back up and having to sit there and wait to pass away from lack of oxygen. Just thinking of it gives me chillbumps

His aunt describes him as "a totally good kid". To think what his mother, Christine Dawood must be going through just makes my stomach churn. My heart goes out to her. Iirc is because there’s less surface area for all that weight to work on. There’s reported banging on the hull indicating it wasn’t total failure. This is both good and terrifying.
On the one hand the vessel still contains live passengers. Which indicates that the haul is still intact. Power however could have shut down so it’s hard to say if it’s on or off. Chances are that it’s off given they are likely still submerged. Otherwise it’s thought they’d resurface with all the features in place to help with that.
This means there is hope as they are still alive and banging can be heard. If they aren’t too (not past several hundred feet) deep and are somehow located then they should survive!
On the other hand which, sadly seems farrr more likely. They are probably on the ocean floor and sealed in an iron coffin. With only probably 24 hours or less of oxygen, it looks bleak. In other words they will probably be slowly suffocated to C02 poisoning right next to the titanic. No power and no communications. No last words and only the cold ocean surrounding them. It’s truly fucked up and arguably a haul breach may have been a less gruesome death. As it would have been an instant death with no pain.
Terribly tragic situation considering how easily preventable this all was. Between the poor materials, lack of communication, and inexistent safety approval. As stated in the interview Im genuinely surprised despite them knowing the risks they got in. Im sure the prior expeditions make it seem less scary at that time. But why play russian roulette with an iron ocean coffin?
Story so far (and unfortunately likely ends in) a grim tale to serve for future exploration.

It's time the Titanic was left in peace. And these companies stopped trying to make money from taking such extreme risks. I can see the draw of the adventure of seeing the ship that has given us so much romance and curiosity from the stories we've heard over the years. But enough lives were lost that fateful night, on the Titanic. We can't have anymore deaths. This is heartbreaking. Those poor people. 💔💔💔

I’m disgusted by the amount of money and chaos spent on this incident. Thousands of people drown in the Mediterranean and English channel, or La Manche, for the French. So many lives lost without very expensive and dear aeroplanes searching for children and people drowning in the seas close to us. Just shows how money talks. These people signed for what they knew they were getting themselves in for.

This is a horrific way to go. I feel terrible for all these men, but the 19 year old in particular breaks my heart. I can’t imagine how their families feel and they have my deepest condolences. I would also like to mention Paul-Henri Nargeolet. I have studied the Titanic for twenty years, and his is a name I have become familiar with. Rest in Peace to Suleman, Shahzada, Hamish, Paul-Henri, and Stockton.
That being said, I hope this incident shows the world that “touring” the Titanic is not only extremely dangerous for the living, but also disrespectful to the dead. The ship is already on the brink of disintegration due to rusticles forming and feeding on the iron. Every time someone visits the wreckage, they disturb these rusticles, causing them to disintegrate and take pieces of the ship with it. The Titanic will be nothing but a rust stain in approximately 100 years. Less than that if we keep visiting her. It’s important to remember that this is a gravesite. It’s also important to remember that to properly honor the tragedy, memorialize it, and respect it, we MUST leave Titanic alone. It’s not the same as visiting a museum or graveyard on land. In this particular case, human involvement causes damage as opposed to provides preservation and protection. There is a line between education and exploitation of a tragedy. Dark tourism such as this, crosses that line.
Thanks to previous dives, we already have in-depth scans of the wreckage. We have made many scientific discoveries, including the discovery of rusticles. Before Robert Ballard’s dives, we didn’t even know if the ship had split in two or not. These are all very positive things. However, thanks to these dives we also now know that she is degrading, and every visit we make to her, we cause this process to increase in speed rapidly. The time for all dives to Titanic, scientific or otherwise, now do not serve much of a purpose. They now do more harm than good.
The Titan has very sadly proven that no regulations are in place for expeditions such as this. These civilians are most likely unaware of the damage these dives cause to the wreckage. These civilians are also not completely aware of how truly dangerous a situation they are in (due to the fragility of the wreckage easily allowing the possibility of the submersibles being stuck, collapsed upon, punctured, etc). Dives such as this are very irresponsible. Regardless of any waivers being signed, they cannot know with 100% certainty what they are getting themselves into. So many more will suffer if dives like this become a regular “tourist attraction.” Please let the Titanic rest in peace. Please help prevent further misinformation and the endangerment of civilians who do not know any better.

My son during the Navy was in a submarine, his most of his time most frightening thing he said he ever had to experience day after day after month. When he got out of the Navy, he never looked back.

Even if I had the money to do it I could NEVER go to the bottom of the ocean. And the same goes for space too! It's terrifying thinking about what could go wrong and being trapped in an endless black void. They are definitely two places that are scary as hell! Gives me goosebumps just thinking about them...

Even when I'm cremated I've told my children they are not to throw my ashes into the water (sea) I'm terrified of the sea and ocean. I always have been thanks to my mother who used to scream like nothing on earth.

its likely the sub imploded. I doubt they are alive and if the are, finding them is the equivalent to finding a needle in a haystack so I doubt we'll ever know what happened to them

I just hope it was a quick death, but sadly I have a feeling they suffered in the worst way imaginable. I can't think of a worse way to go and I'd rather spend 5 months in prison than 5 minutes on a submarine.

@@neenawcat6yearsago898you'd have a better chance finding a needle in a haystack. You're right unfortunately, they're gone ... Honestly can't think of anything I'd rather do less, and even if you paid me $250k there's zero chance I'd go in one.
