Missing Titanic Sub Latest: Ocean Expert Tells Piers Morgan "I'm Hopeful!"

  • Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by oceanographer Dr David Gallo, friend of explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Fred Hagen, and submersible expert William Kohnen to discuss the latest on the missing 'Titan' submersible as recent reports suggest there are reports of 'banging' noises being heard from the depths of the sea.
David Gallo explains that he was initially skeptical of the reports of the banging noises - but admits that the sources that reported them are "very credible" and so now he is more hopeful and optimistic of a potential rescue.

Titanic was a cautionary tale of how arrogance, hubris and lack of safety regulations killed many people. And it's these same things that led to this tragedy.

Exactly.. some want to call it irony.. when it needs to be seen as another lesson, apparently for the rich…
People really need to stop deeming these man made things as “unsinkable” or “destructible”… nature is always gonna remind us who depends on who..
I hope they can make it back….

How is he a visionary?🙂 By ignoring engineering principles and ignoring the concerns of his former employee and ignoring the regulatory body of engineers who sent him a letter citing each item of his sub that did not meet regulatory requirements? Including the XBox controller? The sub as a whole did not meet requirements. The best part is the Titan owner who is now trapped down there boasting that he did not want to , " hire a bunch of 50yr old whhyte guys," to design the sub. Of course not. Go hire diverse flakes.

They probably did not have time to second guess themselves if the submersible imploded. They had plenty of warnings and signed off on the risks. I would rather get launched into space on one of the several civilian vehicles then get in one of these things.

The vessel has 7 possibilities to resurface, such as when the electricity fails. But it didn't show up. Because of this, I think there are mainly two scenarios what happened. The ship couldn't withstand the pressure and imploded or it's stuck somewhere. Stuck in the Titanic or craters on the sea floor... and that's why it doesn't reach the surface. I'm always for hope, but these people are 99.9% dead. A quick death from implosion, or a slow and painful death from lack of oxygen. Even if the vessel hasn't imploded and they locate it, it's already too late to save them. There's no equipment that would be able to recover this vessel at such a depth in time. I feel sorry for the families and the passengers. Especially for the 19-year-old boy who unlike all the other passengers was too young to make a mature decision to board this ship. The Ceo that fired the manager that warned him back in 2018 because of security issues... I have no words for his behavior.

The problem is there are so many lives which could be saved and buoyed up by resources. This was a uniquely talented group, and it is so sad, but not sure why throwing unlimited resources at people who signed up for the risk makes too much sense, especially when it risks others’ lives searching for them, and unfortunately they are not alive.

I've been interested in the Titanic since I'd first watched the 1950's film. I was convinced while watching this movie that the Titanic was long enough to hit the bottom with part of it sticking up as I had no perception of how deep the ocean really is. A few days after watching it I went to the library and borrowed Robert Ballard's book for kids that goes into the tragedy and the discovery of the wreck in 1985. The book has a few drawings that try to demonstrate how far down she is and just the illustration was enough to freak me out. The blackness in those 80's photographs of the boilers, the debris field, the railings, and understanding that no sunlight reaches that depth. The only aspect that later frightened me more was learning that those two and a half miles are almost shallow when compared to places like the Mariana Trench. It apparently takes something like four or five hours to free fall from the surface to where she is and, no. Absolutely not. As much as I love reading about and watching things about the Titanic, I could never be persuaded to visit her. The claustrophobia, the depth, the emotionally charged site... No.

This wasn’t ocean exploration. There are thousands of titanic pictures to view. This was $250,000 a ticket tourism. Nothing was ground breaking with his submersible other than it was a back yard built death trap. The lights and one switch inside the entire sub was purchased at camper world. Other parts were from Home Depot. The craft was controlled by a gaming controller. If they were floating on the surface miles away they are bolted in and cannot open a hatch! Death trap! To Fred Hagen: I think it’s just fine if Stockton wants to go deeper, faster, whatever, in a tiny sub. It’s the fact that Stockton is selling his version of risk to unsuspecting people that is at issue. That’s what a “tourist” is, a person who has little knowledge of what “ride” he has chosen to ride, and wants to enjoy a little of this and a little of that, usually not in familiar surroundings, without worrying about anything. A tiny sub is a place where big worries can happen, much bigger than $250,000 per person, and I believe that Stockton knew this, and was irresponsible offering his version of risk to those who knew nothing about what they were getting into. NO KUDOS FOR STOCKTON ! You don’t get a pass for being irresponsible just because the government doesn’t pay for the research you think the government should pay for. FYI: The Wright Brothers weren’t selling tourist spots in their first plane.

No private investor would give him money to create safe submersibles just for the sake of it.

    1. Nobody is blaming Rush for innovation. They’re blaming him for taking money and putting innocent people at risk, misleading them who don’t know any better how safe it is.
    2. This did not happen in the name of exploration and discovery. The Titanic debris has been discovered, travelled to and documented on for many years. There was nothing risk-worthy vs reward about it. I get it, we must take risks to innovate. But this has been done before and even risk takers and inventors must use even a small amount of initiative to weigh up the options. In this case the dangers were screaming at them for years and they ignored it.
This was not taking risks, this was NEGLIGENCE.
