  • This was a day for the Turkish people to voice their views on what seems like a take over of the beaches from the People to Private companies.
The TOWEL protest is happening all over the country and picking up momentum.
The people have had enough of the beaches being handed over to private companies who use the beaches for profit, thus limiting the number of beaches families can use for FREE!
On this day the people protested and marched on SEA Me beach otherwise known as Boncuklu beach in the Fethiye area.
All was very very peaceful with tourists all wondering what was happening. The march was through the now So called private SEA Me beach to the coast line where a speech was given for the Tv and newspapers that all covered this story.
The turn out was fantastic showing it is a topic close to Turkish peoples hearts.
The days were Turkish families could just drive to the nearest beach, set up tables , chairs, take food and enjoy are fast disappearing according to the people on this friendly march.
Many more marches are scheduled around the country of Türkiye so if you hear of any in your location , please join and give them your support which is for a great cause.
The people want the coastlines given back to the people and not given to private companies for profitable gains. The beaches need to be free for the people is the message they were giving today.
So, remember folks, if you wish to take a towel to any beach you can do so without charge , just do not use the facilities they offer!
This is a subject i am very passionate about and i can say i proudly took my towel and participated in my first ever protest.
Respect to the people of Türkiye!

We used to go on all the 'private' beaches around the lagoon in Olu Deniz and around the peninsular. They have ruined it all. We don't want to hire their sunbeds and umbrellas, we have our own beach stuff. The food and drinks are very expensive and not what we would choose or can afford. Then there is all the music blasting out. I feel so sorry for the locals they just won't be able to afford it, neither can we really. Just so sad.

That is exactly the problem...I used to in the day use all the lagoon. Now I never go for all the reasons you mentioned.

Informative and important news. I’ll be there in May. Ronnie. Would you adviseme to join the local people in the “public” area of the beach, or would that be presumptive?

You can go on both beaches parts but it depends if you wish to have a sunbed etc and need facilities..if you do not need them..join the other side.

I saw these same types of protests happening in Greece. I was wondering how long it would take for these types of protests to spread into Turkey.
It's a tricky thing this privatization vs public beaches. A balance must be struck.

Crazy system, Ive just returned from staying at Calis beach last week, we had a great time - Im with the turkish people on this, the councils that rent out the beach areas are nuts, they should only allow bars/restaurants to be rented and charge for toilets/changing rooms (10TL per visit or 30TL for the day unlimited) + with a limited area for private sunbeds, the beach itself should be for the public to use freely.

Russians do not make it unsafe.....the video is about beaches taken away from locals by beach renters. All nationalities then use the beach at a cost

Alot of beaches do not have great access for wheelchairs. . Oludeniz has wooden ramps so you can go on them. You can get easy access though to the restaurants and facilities on most of the beaches

Would be good if there’s were litter bins provided. We were shocked in Olu Deniz to see piles of litter and rubbish piled up on the corners of the grass on the beachfront- no bins to be seen! Yuk.

That is certainly another problem which needs to be addressed.
Not sure how you'd solve such a thing though. Behavior of groups of people is a very complicated thing.

@@alisonjackson5814 I was going to move there permanently and the only thing that stopped my wife and I from doing it was essentially all the trash everywhere.
Yea you can deal with it for a few months at a time but living in that full time would really bother a lot of people. I've traveled most of the country, the vast majority of places are like that.

Good protest in fairness, I can understand renting a part out on a large beach if people want to use it for food etc but not on a small space like that.

In Spain, the beaches are public- anyone can go on them.
They zone areas for hiring sunbeds and brollys and the rest is for general use. Why can’t they do that?

I literally just came from Öludeniz and it's the same . Terrible, they have the sun chairs right to the water age and tight together ,that you have to really squeeze through them , bothering the people lying on them. A great inconvenience for all of us...
