To sum up, this is how the base game should have been, a better a bigger wild area and cero places with a fixed camera.
tbh the whole dlc should ve been part of the base game xddd
its rather how the game could never have been. wouldnt have profited from that and if we had all the pokemon in it, there would be no fun in this experience.
Also it would be too big for a main game, unless we do a gen 3 and just have much water and multiple isle of armor like islands - maybe for the next gen :D
@@Mut4ntG4m3r no fun, how? Usually unlock the national dex and post content zone and in-game access to past mons after beating the game or be like BW2 giving you access right away. They removed this (and GTS) so either pay $30 for expansion pass as an in-game way to get past mons or pay for pkmn bank to get them off your 3DS into pkmn home both each cost money. F2P Home is so limited its not even worth anything. Doing these things is how it became even more profitable as you say.

From the looks of things, it looks like a fairly big improvement in this dlc, i can see the effort, just a shame its in a paid dlc, not in the base game

Aside from some minor quality of life stuff that SWSH already didn’t have, my only “issue” with the DLC was the lack of new galarian forms/new Pokémon. Aside from that, the dlc is already worth it, or at least it will be when the second half is released
EDIT: okay, I have one other problem: the beeg level 80 wailers doesn’t respawn (unless it just takes multiple days to respawn). Not really a huge problem as much as it is a minor disappointment

The base game has some overworld Pokémon that don’t respawn once you battle them. It’s always been like that in SWSH.

I watched a livestream of this one and can say while there are some neatly animated lil cutscenes with Kubfu and master Mustard, I felt that like the vanilla game this one felt way too compacted in written content. I always feel like that the whole Galar region and their characters do have potential for interesting lore but it's just brushing off a lot of details and make for a shallow experience.
I understand that the main focus seems to be the competetive and multiplayer aspect beyond that, but for me that still somewhat also felt not done well enough. Weird restrictions in the online play, the already lackluster Nintendo Online performance, the fact how easy it seems to be for people to hack into the game, makes me just doesn't convince me to get a subscription for the service.
People will enjoy the little gifts and benefits that you receive if you take part in the multiplayer stuff, I guess and while I like the focus on the partner Pokémon Kubfu here (shame there is nothing comparable in the main story that showcases the bond between the protagonist and his partner of choice; not necessarily refering to any of the starters, could be whatever if they could have scripted it neatly enough), I think overall there is not enough content for me personally to warrant that extra purchase. Heck, I was lucky to get a copy of Shield in a raffle and thought it was just okay of a Pokémon experience. There were just too many offputting flaws that left a bad taste with me. If I wouldn't have engaged in taking the best aspects of the game like the Pokémon designs and the idea of what SwSh are supposed to be, then I'd just have came to the conclusion that it wouldn't have been worth buying.

I'd agree with the multiplayer aspect if that trade and battle stamp system wasn't so damn impossible to navigate. It took me and my friends over half an hour to get one trade going when we were right next to each other.
It’s interesting that you say the battles look great, because i found them very static looking. You see such interesting and personality filled animations of the Pokémon walking around in the overworld, and then as soon as you start battle they just sorta stand there blankly bobbing up and down. Even in black and white they had different animations depending on the amount of hp you had left. I really wanted to love these games, but they really left me wanting more. And it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to get what I’m looking for in the dlc
I’m glad the rivals are jerks. Because I’ve always felt bad about beating the ones that are your friends because they get so depressed afterwards. Now I can beat my rivals in a battle it peace:)

That’s the whole point of the Isle of Armor though, but the Crown Tundra will be more story based so hopefully when it comes out it will be what most of us want
If you want more battles you can go to the dojo once a day and fight Avery/Klara and Mustard.

I actually like the rival in this dlc, way more than bede that's for sure lol. I have Sword tho, and thought Klara made the cut for being a good rival. From what I've heard, it's the male rival in Shield that people don't like
As someone who is just now getting into Pokémon with Sword & Shield [Let alone RPGS in general (I have the Shield Version if your wondering)], this little DLC has been a good time so far, especially with the bunch of Pokémon added in, since to a newbie like me, they were all new Pokémon.

The way you described it made it sound like it was more a 6-7/10.
The isle exploration, its layout structure this is what I expected the base game wild area to originally be. Then there's party mons following you, way better bike outfit design and effects.
Its like they purposely half assed base game to put it all this features for the expansion most wanted for base game. Cuz the devs clearly are capable they just choose not to for Sw/Sh itself.
The fact base game has zero areas and proper post content to unlock after you beat it further proves it. Sw/Sh post content is paywalled by this expansion and all for a barely 3 hour experience and super short story smh.
Or, it is also possible, they had more time to work on the dlc and used what they learned from the base game to help them.
Also this is only the forst half of the dlc, I would hold off on commenting on the dlc and whether it's worth it until after the crown tundra
@@Overlord7135 Yeah, the thing is though, many things shown in the DLC should really be in the base game. They developed the DLC alongside the main game. Features like changing your bike, Pokemon following you, the different landscapes in the wild area and the Gigantamax forms really should all have been part of the base game to begin with. Why is the only Wild Area accessible to me absolutely bland and boring, while this new one, albeit not looking better graphically, has much more variety and detail? Why should Pokemon following the player be a DLC exclusive thing? Same question with Gigantamax forms for the starters of the game plus the Kanto starters of which we already got one in the Base game! It looks painfully obvious that they withheld certain features and especially variety from the main game to sell it in the DLC.
You gotta think, the game hasn't even been out a year and the dlc has improved the wild area by leaps and bounds :) I can't wait to see how GF keeps building off this
@@Overlord7135 one of the devs said the team worked on the DLC alongside the base game, so adding the coding for the other past mons was always part of the plan too.
They half assed this too. There isn’t anything interesting to do except catch new Pokémon.
I really like how the isle of armor took some of the Pokémon from the new region and made them easier to catch like morpeko and ditto. I also like how there are alolan Pokémon
My take: If you liked the main Sw/Sh games, you'll like this. If you disliked the main game, this won't change your opinion. The rivals are ABSOLUTE TRASH, Both Klara and Avery. Other than that, the characters are quite enjoyable. It is fairly short, but there are tons of Pokemon to catch, such as JIGGLYPUFF!!! The thing is what the main Wild Area could only dream to be, and you're encouraged to find every nook and cranny by filling up what I call "The Diglidex", and it also gives you some Alolan form Pokemon. Among many other changes and features, I had fun with the dlc, and it even tells you that SONIA WILL BE IN THE WINTER TUNDRA so if you liked the main game, check this out.
For me this DLC was extremely underwhelming. I wasn't expecting to finish the isle of armor the same day it launched smh
I see people trying to defend it saying well it's only $15. It shouldn't have even been $15 It was $5 at most. Most of the life improvements are things that should have been in the base game and there's absolutely no reason why they weren't. DLC brings 109 new Pokemon. 105 of them are literally old pokémon they removed from the base game so they could sell back to us. Two of them a slow poke and slow bro are just new versions of old pokémon. That means we have two new Pokemon out of 109. You can now get a special soup to giantimax your starter Pokemon and any Pokemon that was could be giantmax but it didn't have the ability. Why the hell is that not in the base. The only really good part of this DLC was the island itself. all the other good parts are clearly were removed from the base game so they could be sold back to us game freak should be ashamed of themselves

the slowpoke part can be cheesed since they take the same fairly small circle, if you just stop moving in their trail behind them, you should have the slowpoke run into you in less than 20 seconds

It's like a much better thought out version of the Wild Area. It feels much the same, yet it has a much wider variety.
The Wild Area in the main game was mostly just green fields and lakes, broken up only by the canyon outside Hammerlocke. The variety in Pokémon there was primarily guided by the dynamic weather. The more biome-related spawns were left to the classic routes, which each had a distinct theme centered around a particular biome.
The Isle of Armour, however, combines these two ideas into one much better. It genuinely feels like you are going through very different types of areas, instead of just seeing the same scenery all over. Sometimes it's a sea, sometimes it's a cave, a forest, a desert etc.
And yet, it still feels like a completely open area to explore, just like the Wild Area, but also incorporates the themed nature of the various routes in Galar. I honestly hope they keep Pokémon games that way in the future, because never before did I feel like I was interacting with Pokémon in their wild, untamed habitats to the same level as I did here. It all feels much more natural and organic than in the base game. It makes sense why certain Pokémon are in a particular spot.
The Pokémon following you was a cool surprise. I was dissapointed you can only do it on the Isle of Armour, though. It works nowhere else, not even the Wild Area. This feature lacks the level of polish and environmental context that it had in Let's GO Pikachu/Eevee. Still a cool addition, however. It does add to the more naturalistic feel of this area.
My only major gripe was the fact that quite a bit of the Pokémon species on the Isle of Armour are already available in the main game. It feels like such wasted potential, especially after the controversial decision to leave so many old Pokémon unobtainable in Sword and Shield. Having already seen a million Chewtles and Roggenrolas doesn't really make you excited to see them again. I already had a good chunk of the Island's Pokédex filled out because I already completed the Galar Pokédex months ago. The old species that do make their first appearance in Galar are well-chosen, however, with many of my favourites making a return. There's also easier acccess to the various regional variants previously only obtainable through Pokémon Home, such as the Alolan Meowth, the Unovan Darumaka and the Kantonian Slowpoke. Speaking of Slowpoke: it's the only Pokémon, along with its evolutions, that has gotten Galarian variants. I really was hoping for at least two or three more, especially seeing how great the existing Galarian Forms are, but alas.
Overall, great package, especially considering we get even more of it this fall with no additional price tag attached. It would definitely be interesting to replay the main game at that point with access to so much more diversity in creatures.
Actually I liked the rival in this. Avery. He kept things really interesting and our first encounter where he tried to get rid of us(The Main character) was hilarious to me.
Wouldnt mind more characters like that in abundance, much better than the obnoxious happy characters.

Please send me the recipes step by step because I'm struggling😰. But apart from that problem the Pokémon Sword & Shield - The Isle of Armor DLC is very good and happy to see more old Pokemon returning.👍

I was worried the DLC would just be parts of the base game reshaped into something shiny but shallow and have been holding off on purchasing despite being a big Pokémon fan, but it seems now that it might be worth purchasing especially since Crown Tundra is included later on and seems potentially more ambitious.

Does it make you start with a new team, or are you able to bring your strongest and destroy everything? I kinda don't wanna feel like that's an option, because I tend to cheese through things if I can sometimes
You can bring whoever. I only kept one of my high level guys with me, and trained 5 new pokémon I caught while roaming around.
Also kubfu is the only pokémon you can have in your party once you begin the Tower trial for evolving it. You get kubfu at lv 10, and the Tower trial has trainers with pokémon between levels 60 and 70. So there's actually a good challenge there with grinding levels and all
Only tip i have is just don't cheese leveling up kubfu with exp candies and you'll get a lot more out of the experience :)

I agree with everyting you said, BUT, I couldn't disagree more about Klara, I think she's hilarious and it's REALLY nice to have a rival that is this self-centred and bitchy in a humorous way.
Would have liked to have challenging battles with trainers who have level 100 pokemon.

1. no one mentiones if you are the champion
2. you get a diglett for collecting 150 digletts

If you rush through, sure. If you actually go around collecting, exploring, etc. They put a lot into this DLC and the next will will bigger, plus even more new stuff. Already worth it in my eyes, much more so than Call of duty skins people pay for or MK11 Aftermath which is even shorter and has far less value.

I hope so. It's priced well enough that I won't complain about it, but it's just an okay dlc for an okay pokemon game. Am disappointed cause it's my favourite series and have always hoped for dlc for it. This just feels like it should be in the base game.
Yeah I agree it was short I beat it within 6 hours. Like it's a good DLC but for the price you pay for it there should have been more. I've seen dlc from games like assassins creed selling DLC for 15 bucks that add an additional 12 hrs.
Also this DLC was really easy most people who got this DLC most likely beat the game already so they should of had the trainers pokemon be over level 80. And for the most part they only used first forms and not alot of final evolutions.

I still bought SW/SH and the DLC, true that the game is not worth the money but for me that doesn't matter to me because all i want is to play pokemon games and have fun which I did and that's what matters to me. I liked both Klara and Aery although I am a bit of a sucker for hammy villains/antagonists
Evolving Kubfu if the point of this DLC and it’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done in a Pokémon game. They might as well have added Urshifu as an even Mon in a raid den, since that’s the only challenging part of the game (if you don’t do invite others to help). The entire thing is just a glorified wild area. I get that it’s a child’s game but so we’re the older titles. I felt way more accomplishment beating games like Ruby and sapphire because they weren’t easy.

The Galar region is 🇬🇧 UK but upside down cause the Isle of Man is on the left and Scotland is on the Top. But Galar is upside down, Isle of Armor is on the right and Crown Tundra is on the bottom.
It's $30 total so it's half of the missing sword and shield game. Perfect 👌

It's worth noting that the gift Pokémon you receive for finding the Alolan Diglett have their Hidden Abilities. Except for Alolan Raichu, because it doesn't have one of course.

Something that really annoyed was Mustard pulling a Giovanni and giving us a vague sequel bait, or expansion bait I guess

Both DLCs lead to one story or plot. The reason why is because of the Galarian Star Tournament. Both of these DLCs are basically training places.(I think) Also notice how at some point you see Gym leaders at the isle of armor, it’s because of the Galarian Star Tournament. Since the Isle of Armor is a training Isle it makes sense. I don’t know what The Crown Tundra’s purpose is but idk.
A lot of effort went into this DLC and I enjoyed it for what it is but it definitely feels like they are responding to the criticisms they got of Sword and Shield with certain touches, like a more dynamic wild area and making it the entire map. Also letting Pokemon follow you is cute even though the execution was truly unimpressive to say the least. I hope the next pack is good and they carry all of the lessons they seem to be learning into the next main entry game.

So it $30 for both DLC or each? I'm not sure if I'm feeling this DLC but I'd like to give it a shot since Pokemon was my first videogame series ever. Price is one factor for me, but also content wise. The review seemed more of a summary to me when I read it, so I didn't really grasp much of what thus DLC has to offer other than some new little post game content
It's ~30 (the price depends on where you live) for the Isle of Armor+the Crown Tundra. The confusion comes in because it's $30 for both for 1 version of the game, ex: buying the DLC for Shield won't give you the DLC for Sword
I’ve heard that the lack of story is deliberate as the crown tundra is more story based.
I can’t explain it but Avery is my favorite character in this entire game
I’m having more fun with this because it’s basically open world. It encourage exploration. I didn’t even do the story until a couple hours of play. Traveling around an unowned island was so fun. I just want to be able to climb and jump of cliffs.
I have the DLC, and i complain about caves, original caves in sword/shield looks great and well saturated with crystals, objects, etc. But now, caves in the DLC is like, if you were inside an intestine.

They should've made this a lot tougher. More NPC trainers to battle, Mustard and Klara should've been Elite Four level trainers. More story was needed.

So we're not gonna bring up how follow pokemon constantly get stuck, can't keep up with the trainer whatsoever and just blink in and out of existence? Or when you walk into them, they just slide backwards instead of navigating around you? Also, you can't even interact with them while following you. Or that wailord is still laughably tiny in pokemon battles for some reason?
I hate how it does not balance the trainers to the level of your pokemon. My playthrough team is reaching their level eighties and having to slog through level 60 battles that last 5 seconds is pretty dumb in my opinion. I get why the pokemon are level 60 but why aren't the trainers?
Its about 2 and a half hours and you can best the story in ten so with crown tundra its the same value as the main game

Well, the thing about Pokémon is that it was never the case :D at least not the first game in each generation
i just hope theres like i dont remember what its called.. a device that you can re battle a trainer or a rotom phones function that trainer or gym leader that call us to have rematch . that way we can easily gain money . Feeling unsatisfied because the game is like too easy , you can catch pokemon in their full hp, unlike past version of pokemon that we had to make them low hp to catch it , and lack of puzzle, its the puzzle that makes the games far more interesting, like in pokemon emerald . regis puzzle , getting lost in underwater caves , falling down countless times in rayquanza tower, secret of mirage island , the fact that we have to beat gym leader to use every HM moves, The gym leader and elite four really challenging to the way we cannot defeat them in one go. had to rematch and rematch for us to make better strategy to counter and win it.
So far I am enjoying the DLC but I definitely do see the flaws that people point out. I just hope that Gamefreak will eventually listen and correct these mistakes in future games. Now if we could get a storyline like the ORAS end game then that would be great! It was super epic to ride a Rayquaza into space and defeat a Deoxys.

I really hope Game Freak is not involved in Gen 9 at all. They just don't care about the game, they know we buy it because catching our favourite Pokemon give us nostalgia.
