Fun fact: This is Mike Shinoda's favorite Linkin Park song ever. He has discussed his memories with this song on one of his recent Twitch streams saying that he remembers when he was stuck in the lyrics process, he had the rap parts but there was something missing but then Chester came in Mike's home studio, and was going through vocal recording memos on his phone, they both knew that was the missing part. Also just want to say that none of LP songs are a suicide note or anything like that. This band is special because they always speak up about emotional and mental struggles in a very intelligent way. Mike has called that "valuing emotional intelligence". It was just drawing on their own experiences through life in general and we as fans are forever grateful for LP for speaking up the right way on these issues.
Nobody can save us but us. Other's guidance is temporary until we feel strong enough to decide what to do... whether it be to live on a better life or... end it... Linkin Park helped guide us all in ways that can never be repaid.
As a huge fan of Linkin Park, I'm happy when anyone reacts to their stuff (thanks for that) but it breaks my heart that almost everyone who's new to them reacts in the context of Chester's death. Their music is so beautiful that it deserves to be judged not just on how it relates to Chester but on its pure craft. I mean, so many of their songs just by virtue of the fact that they speak to humanity and pain, fear and loss, can be connected to his death, but I think the band truly meant these as a way to speak to people's humanity and pain across the board and not just as Chester's cry for help. It's a collective cry almost, echoing around the world. It wasn't just Chester's. It was Mike's and Hahn's and mine and the pain of everyone who has ever heard these songs and connected with their messages. So yes, it does speak to Chester's pain, but to me it says so much more about the stuff we go through in the human experience and how by expressing it, even if you can't save yourself, you can save someone else. Chester's music, Linkin Park's music, has touched and saved many lives. And I think he'd want us to focus on that, and (to borrow from them) to leave out all the rest.
yes, exactly all of this. it’s easy to see the way his death colours the lyrics, but it’s disheartening to see the messages and the BEAUTY getting overshadowed. Linkin Park weren’t just connecting genres, they were linking cultures, i think, and by extension people from all those different walks.
It's hard not to, but ya, while this song does have sad undertones, I feel like its positive and hopeful overall. I don't know how any person couldn't relate to this song.
Immediately after hearing about his passing I went to this album. It’s crazy the signs that went missed. If you need it this is your sign that THIS WORLD IS BETTER WITH YOU IN IT.
You da man RedTop!! I was happy to find a reactor that was able to go in deep with that “pain music”. So many people are so shallow they can’t be moved by music like this. Clearly you run deeper than the average gangsta, keep it up.
So many LP songs are more relevant now than when they were written. Keep up the reactions LP is my favorite band hands down and mike solo album "post traumatic" is so good its shows mike dealing with the loss of Chester so many hard hitting songs on it
Yes all the signs were there he openly talked about his depression it was never really a secret. He had a lot of past demons unfortunately he wasn't always able to fight them.
On the album A Thousand Suns, Waiting For the End follows a musical flow that starts with Robot Boy, a song about someone who's depressed and encouraging them to find the strength to move on. That song moves right into Jornada del Muerto, whose lyrics are in Japanese and translate to "lift me up, take me away" right before moving into Waiting For the End. I mean, the recurring themes of A Thousand Suns is nuclear war, as by its title, and even referenced in multiple songs on the album (e.g. "Blackout," "Fallout," "Iridescent").
I never understood how people could be surprised when Chester took his life. He was very open about his state of mind, even saying that he is scared how he end mentioning 'I have six kids!'. But I understand him. I wished for him to turn out so very different, but I understand him.
Love seeing reactions to LP and Chester in particular, but you gotta realise that these songs weren't written by a suicidal man. In fact many songs were written by Mike, not Chester. LP have always written songs that speak to the human condition, which is why they have been so wildly popular even among people who wouldn't typically listen to their type of music. It's universal feelings of anger, frustration, grief, loss, and yes sometimes depression or sadness. But they weren't written as some contrived hidden suicide note for his eventual passing years or even decades later. LPs songs and Chester's delivery is made all the more poignant now given his death, but that's just us projecting our own feelings... we hear what we wanna hear. Nothing wrong with that, it makes their songs even more powerful than they already were, but I think it's important to not forget the original meanings and motivations behind the songs :)
As a huge fan of LP since they 1st released Hybrid Theory and every subsequent album. Chester, Mike, Joe and the gang all poured their love of music and every occurrences into the music. Chester also spoke the pain he endured from being abused. He gave so many encouragement without even knowing until his untimely passing. We all have demons to cope and deal with, some unfortunately lose, as Chester did. That’s never the answer reach out for help and don’t suffer in silence and feeling alone. R.I.P. Chester
The media was quick to say his wife's Twitter account was hacked when she said Chester was murdered. Even the sound engineer, Chris Keene, believed both Cornell and Bennington were murdered to cover up a child trafficking ring (since Cornell had just performed a Soundgarden concert an hour before his death, Keene does make a point that nine cracked ribs would've made it impossible for Cornell to perform a full concert at all).
I love your understanding of them and you catch stuff that I havnt caught after years of listening also your quality is A1 on your vids the music sounds better than the actual vids of the song
Yes... The lyrics should've been a huge indicator..... and they were. He fought it for a long time and helped many hang in with him.......#fuckdepression
The poetry of his lyrics easily apply to relationships as well, and there's a lot of speculation that his heart got broken long ago and he never got over her.
In context of the album the song is on, I think that "Waiting For The End" more or less symbolizes that feeling of watching a nuclear explosion and having your life flash before your eyes in the time before the blast reaches you.
much of their lyrics have dual meaning, on surface it seems like the death of relationships but metaphorically Chester was telling us his pain and ultimate fate
Others obviously are more well versed in their creative process and I agree they did speak to what so many people deal with and feel alone in it. Music makes you realize others feel it too. Specifically what Chester was missing was a childhood. Once that's taken it can never be replaced. Horrific abuse and drug addiction at a young age left wounds that obviously never healed, yet he was such a bright light and a lifeline for so many people and a great family man as well. RIP.
You've started the Linkin Park journey and now you can't stop bro! And once you're done, you gotta get on Mike Shinodas Post Traumatic album (he wrote and released it after Chester's passing away)
The song sounds sad, and in hindsight it is very sad. But the song is actually somewhat positive ultimately because it's about the ending a stage of your life and the fear but the strength to enter a new stage.
What many others call LP songs as depressing I call evoking emotions. They take real life experiences whether it's theirs or other peoples and incorporate it into their songs. This song is not about suicide and more about a break up with a certain someone though I understand how there are people who misunderstand. Many LP songs are pretty vague though it's meant to be that way. Also please check out High Voltage for a more upbeat hiphop Lp song

i most definitely think that can be. if someone dealing with deep scars since childhood, i think its definitely possible. writers write on things they feel and things they experience, and things they feel in the moments, s as viewers, never know the true depth and intent behind ones words and feelings.

hello, thanks for the kind words. little insight. i had never really listened to LP before until i had to for reaction videos, but truth be told, i became a fan after checking them out and we are not finished still. but they have 1 of my top 5 on my channel as a whole because their music is deep as you can tell from my reactions. you are in one of my fave playlist. and here is the full playlist all linkin park if you are interested to hear more on them. these were all requested by other subscribers. hope you enjoy and see you in the comments. ua-cam.com/play/PLtC36uvHQQn-HCE-6ye84OLY1jMGiqco3.html

Agree 100%. ❤️❤️
100% this song is my anthem. For me it’s about battling depression for years…ending the cycle and starting again with hope
Chester saved millions with his voice and lyrics. I just wish the millions could have saved him. RIP ❤️

EXACTLY. I hope people don't just focus on his death, and think all their songs were about suicide. I don't want this to be LP's legacy.
Immediately after hearing about his passing I went to this album. It’s crazy the signs that went missed. If you need it this is your sign that THIS WORLD IS BETTER WITH YOU IN IT.
This isn't a suicidal song btw. Its about grief or past and moving forward after someone is gone from your life. Or even about a relationship ending.
I recently experienced that pain
True statement but since his passing it hits differently now
Ik but it's just to fitting with him passing man it's so weird. Makes me cry every time I hear it
The entire album, A Thousand Suns, is about nuclear war, if you listen from start to finish.
Sings like an angel screams like a demon rip Chester b🙏🏻🙏🏻

Wow these lyrics hit even harder now that he's gone why couldnt we see it than when he was still here 😪
You get it, many don't. That's why I subscribed. Great reaction. Tragic what your own mind can do to you. RIP Chester
Thanks for the sub.

Listen to mark morton feat Chester bennington - cross off .. it was probably Chesters last song recorded

My only hope is that he is at peace.
Yes, all the signs were there.
Chester saved a lot of lives, and it's so sad to think we couldn't save his.
This song will always feel like a goodbye to us lifelong fans.

Well said , even though mike was the primary song writer Chester added to his creative process , they were amazing together .
Their music hits different after his passing , a thousand suns is about the end of humanity ......nuclear war
God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Great video
Felt good listening didn't know the lyrics. Now understanding the words and its beautiful. But I also like coffin Jessie reyez and bullet H.U.
He said "until I get it forget let it all disappear" not dead it
You can trade your situation for something new but death isn’t the answer
I was left thinking when I first heard this song. Now 3 years later it stings badly.

Shadow of the day by linkin park
You can’t look at each song and say it’s signs 🪧 of suicide. They wrote songs like that for 20 years..
i most definitely think that can be. if someone dealing with deep scars since childhood, i think its definitely possible. writers write on things they feel and things they experience, and things they feel in the moments, s as viewers, never know the true depth and intent behind ones words and feelings.
This like their last great song that feels like linkin park
okay but you should've done one step closer till now . that track is fire . you should do the live version of 2004 (Rock Am Ring)
More linkin park reactions please
I'm thinking Chester Bennington had a clinical depression. Maybe he needed medication 💊
