I love that you are sharing this information because so often people hear is that running is absolutely not possible with osteoarthritis!

Thanks for this simple, good honest guidance. I realise I'm not doing any wrong, just can't expect it to come easy, no "instant fix" that so many promise, and need to adjust approach a bit.

My spine has osteoarthritis through the whole spine. I'd like to add running to my other workouts. We just buried my cousin with the same thing from complications from the surgery. It runs in my family. I've been walking on an incline after strength training. I'm a big guy, so I don't know if I'm ready. My spinal surgeon said no, but he also didn't recommend strength training. But I feel better now from lifting.

Hi Mark, sorry to hear about your diagnosis of osteoarthritis in your back and to hear about your cousin. Glad to hear that the strength training has helped you. I hope the walking on an incline is going well for you as well.

@@AgeFitwithTess Thank you! Honestly I enjoy the walking on an incline. Its something I stay consistent with. Our baseball season starts up in a week, so I'm thinking about starting a walk run, I just hope it doesn't put too must stress on my spine. Thank you for the response

I am 34 and only recently been diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis in November
. I had just recently completed half Ironman didn’t have any pain but had hip problems ( perthes disease )when a kid .
I don’t get pain on my hip but doctors told me I have stage 3 arthritis. They only told me that I had arthritis since 2017 to but nobody contacted me
Do you think a full Ironman is possible if the running part is just took slow

Thanks for watching James. Congrats on completing a half Ironman. In general, symptom management will likely be important when training like addressing any symptoms as they arise. Prevention of symptom wise, the cross training component of triathlon will likely be beneficial as well as specific rehabilitation and strength based exercises.

Good to know I can still run, it is a positive news... I normally run 5km x2 per week over last 15+ years, but reduced running to more walking in last 4-5 months due to lots travelling. Noticed occasional sharp pain on right knee cap area 4 weeks ago when I walk on street, but no pain at all when I was running. Doctor checked, said no injuries but prescribed pain killer (cream) for osteoarthritis, suggested no running, reduce walking (I normally do 10k steps daily) until pain goes away.....I don't think my condition is that bad, but now worried if I do more would make my knee cap pain worse, I have a 3 week trip coming from March 1st...I guess I still should do some exercise otherwise the knee will go weak? Any suggestions or recommend some of your videos may help? Many thanks!

I have a pilon fracture. My doctor discourages me from running because she says it will essentially just accelerate the onset of arthritis, i do not have arthritis yet. Is it true?

Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear you have a pilon fracture. Yes it is important to have medical clearance for weight bearing following an injury such as a pilon fracture before commencing weight bearing rehabilitation exercises and then running. I hope you are recovering well.
