      Hello Sabrah!
I just love UK etiquette! You are so reffined! In Argentina there is a different culture. I love it when the man pays on a date and when someone holds the door for me . However that is not always the case. It used to be like that in my mother`s time , but unfortunately the young are being more distracted with their cell phones and they dont pay attention to other people. They arrive ridiculously late and most people visit you annannounced if they wish. I really hate that! I wish I lived in the UK ! You guys are so polite ! I love it!

Thanks for laughing. It is good for your health. But I did not devise anything. It is our culture. There is a book called " How to be an Allien" Or " How to be a Brit". Both are extremely witty, you will laugh the whole book through. This book Describes the Bad and good manners, give or take as a stand-up comedian, of the Brits.

In the Philippines, we'd arrive one to two hours past the agreed time. But in formal occasions, punctuality is a must. Bonus points if you're 10-15 minutes early. In dining, it's unruly to eat the last piece of a meal from a central serving plate. We usually offer the piece to the other guests first. We often return the plates to the counter or to a waiter/waitress after eating, although we're not really strict when it comes to this etiquette. Tipping in the country is somewhere between ten and fifteen percent.

    Hi Sabrah!
What a great lesson! What could I say that didn't already say regarding your qualities as a teacher...It's agreeable, sweet, vvid, accurate, very informative, exhaustive, expressive, smiling with a touch of humour, detailed (like you personal little anecdotes), well illustrated... Great ease and a lot of naturalness! All reasons why you're my fave English teacher and like watching you so much. For me, it's a 11/10!
Nothing I didn't already know about the British Etiquette, but those not familiar with it are now 'masters'.
Finally, I don't find so much differences with us here. It probably goes to a few details
We are more 'kiss' than 'hug'. Usually handshake when you don't know the person but it tends to evolve and a kiss to the opposite sex is more and more adopted and wouldn't be shocking. As you maybe know, the issue is often the number of them (2,3,4?...) as there are many local differences (according to the region). For example around Dunkirk and its region where I long lived, it is 4!
A tendancy is also kiss between male friends. I confess I personally have a little bit of trouble with it, but well, why not. I don't see any problem.
Personally, I feel quite close to this British culture as I'm rather a discreet and reserved person. Not really a question of being polite (I am) but it probably pertains to my character and education. I like to be warmhearted in another way but I somehow feel rather far from the 'Italian exhubérance' for example.
I stop here because I feel I'm gonna be too long again ...😂
I'll probably come back later as I like to watch your videos endless times! 😊
Congratulatins my Sweetie and thanks so much! Luv' ya so! 🥰🌹🧡
P.S.: Still hope to have a short answer for my poem ( I'm sorry if it bothered you though... I would understand, don't worry about it) 😊👍

Oh wow.... My heartiest congratulations to you and Leila for the 250,000 milestone... 🎊🎊🙏
On kissing, hugging or shaking... It depends on the situation, person and the environment... At formal events, we tend to handshake as opposed to kissing or hugging but if we do meet a known face,at these events we are more likely to welcome him or her with a nibble or kiss on the cheek... 😘😘❤️
Otherwise, hand shakes are the most commonly accepted way of greeting at the formal events...
Cheers dear for a yet another wonderful lesson on etiquette and May you and leila reach one million subs before too long and in next to no time... ❤️❤️

10:02 - I'm Italian and even if we're the ones who invited our friends out we always split the bill unless it's a romantic couple on a date (in that case the man is expected to pay,at least in a heterosexual couple of course). There are some exceptions though: if the invitation is more formal or it's your birthday and you arranged the outing, then YOU have to pay.

In Italy we are not good in queueing. We are still work in progress about it. Even if we are considered very sociable is not considered proper to kiss or rub in public. Young people that do it are always frowned up. All the rules about "gentleman way to do" are often condidered old fashioned unfortunately but there are people behave accordingly. About punctuality you could find any kind of people. Usually it is considered very rude to arrive late at a dinner party. it's more tolerated among young people meeting in a pub or a disco etc.

    For Manuel Gordillo:
" I don’t agree with what you’re saying, but I shall fight to the death for your right to say it! " (Attributed to Voltaire, but probably apocryphal)
Best quote ever related to 'freedom of expression'!
    Or else:
"Give me three words of any author...and I will have him hung!" (probably Laubardemont, origin discussed)
The latter quote is extremely interesting and relevant when someone takes one of your sentence out of its context to imply that you said something that, in fact, you didn't!!

In America it is not normal etiquette to send our food back as we also see it in general to be inconsiderate. Most Americans exercise politeness in this area. When someone sends their food back and complains it is seen as arrogant or rude.
Also, I think it does depend on region for these morays. East cost is different than the west and the south and Midwest America have different etiquette.

    Hi Sabrah and Leila!
11:07 Is "ostentatious" a synonym of "cheesy"? I learned the latter recently but still have trouble understanding it in details.. Thank you!

    • @wobaguk
      @wobaguk Рік тому +1

This is an old question but an interesting one. No they are not the same, but there is an overlap! 'Cheesy' usually describes something that is trying so hard to 'be' something, that it actually seems amusingly lacking in style or quality. A horror movie might be 'cheesy' if it does so much over the top, it seems silly and unrealistic rather than scary. Comedy might be 'cheesy' if it tries too hard to make you laugh, while not being clever in nature. So, someone being ostentatious might be 'cheesy', if in showing off status and wealth, they actually display a lack of sophistication and taste.

The lady in red . She is a British little red riding hood ❤️ .
When it comes to greeting in Mexico huggin isn’t a common thing even among close friends , but we do cheek kissing quite often . However , it depends a lot on the people as some especially women don’t like that type of greeting coming from men especially for the ones they just met .
We don’t complain that easily if there is a problem with the meal in restaurants, if we don’t like the service , food or the place isn’t that nice we just don’t come back ever again . However, things can’t change in fancy restaurants , people usually complain every single detail , and as we have a lot of American tourism some of our people have adopted some of their culture when it comes to tipping , demanding and complaining in a restaurant, of course it has some pros too if you visit Mexico City , Cancun , los cabos you’re gonna get an American type restaurant customer service ( attention in every single detail ) .
Las propinas ( tipping in Mexico ) waiters working at restaurants and bars should always be tipped for good service ; a sum equivalent to 10-15 % of the total bill is appropriate. It’s not quite rare for them to get higher tipping in the most popular tourist destination tho .
When you stay at a hotel in Mexico it’s customary in Mexico to leave a tip for your hotel room chambermaid , a sue between US$1 and US$5 .
We aren’t that open minded yet as we should when it comes to seeing people kissing each other in the streets or any public place such as super market , when there is a gay couple showing themselves affection in public they tend to receive a lot of weird looks .However, we have improved a lot , new generations are def way more open minded now .
Wonderful lesson my queen Sabrah , it’s always a pleasure to learn about the uk from you , it feels like the queen herself is lecturing me , oh wait your are the Queen at least the queen of my ❤️.

      Support and advocacy for MANUEL:
"You can laugh about everything but not with anybody" : Pierre Desprosges.
They take us our money, they take us our sovereignty, our freedom of moves, they take us our freedom of expression, our freedom of smoking, of drinking, of f.....g, our freedom of laughing. These days, a single joke about either women, a community whatever it is, Blacks, Whites, Yellows, Reds, Greens, Christians, Muslims, Jewish, or gays etc. etc. and you immediatly have the MLF (women’s liberation movement), the LGBT, The CRIF, the LICRA or whatever association on your back. I don't specially like jokes making fun of people (I prefer absurd and self derision) But I grew up a time when you could still express, laugh and make humour of almost everything. Today, the amazing, irreplaceable and unforgettable Coluche (Michel Colucci) or the immense Pierre Desproges would simply spend their whole life in trial courts... Dunno if the evolution is the same elsewhere in Europe but in France it has become insane and totally despictable!! A kinda dictatorial injonction imposes you to think with 'righteousness' and be 'politically correct' ...
For me you don't have to apologize Manuel but you did it when one single crabby and sourpuss person complained. But you did it and it is all to your honour!
      😊👍
P.S.: " I don’t agree with what you’re saying, but I shall fight to the death for your right to say it! " (attributed to Voltaire, but probably apocryphal)

However, I say this but I am exactly like that (though sometimes a tiny bit late). Even when I was an employee, I've never balked at my working hours, working as many supplementary hours a day as it was necessary (sometimes until night! and even the week-ends). So your 1 or 2 hours could make me a bit laughing...But it was only of my willing! because I was not only obsessed with meeting the deadlines but also a bit of a perfectionist! But it is only my state of mind and wouldn't like this to be erected as a system especially when people don't have the choice or are shamely exploited!

14:30 Arab culture, not Arabic culture.
We don't hold hands. We, sometimes, cross arms with same gender companions in a certain fasion whereby each person's front end of the crossed arm is inserted into their own pocket, not the way copulating individuals do, and we do so with certain friends of a certain level of comradeship, closeness and a age. Lovers do something different but in this video you spoke of friends only hence I explained what happened amongst friends only. Arab culture differs from one Arab country to another. The Arab world is huge, not a neighbourhood.
    Cheers for the effort

This lesson is absolutely hilarious. But, bear in mind. You can do another one with DOS AND DON'TS in Spain. You only have to change these words. Dos and don'ts in Spanish are the opposite ... The Spanish people were never being late, only they never arrive. And when we have to pay the bill... all of them will have disappeared, go away, vanished, if I invite for having a coffee a pint of bitter, mysteriously die out all the people around of you, they have worn off.
