Honestly, the family dropped the ball on her legacy. I always wondered why we didn’t get a true Aaliyah biopic. The family can’t get along. The uncle owns h the music and her mom owns Aaliyah likeness. No interviews, documentaries of Aaliyah from her family. Aaliyah should have a museum (kinda like Selena) with her outfits and items that she owned. 20 years later and we are just now getting her music on all streaming platforms??? Yes we need to hear from her mother!!
I really do hope Diane comes out one day to tell her side but even if she does... I'm unsure if she'll tell the full truth because as you and many others have said, mistakes were made by her AND Barry and neither one wants to air out their dirty laundry. Barry seemed to insinuate Diane was still in contact with R Kelly in that interview right up until 01 which does not bode well with the rumours that she also messed with him. I would've thought since Barry is nearing his latter days he'd say the truth but that man loves a white lie. We truly need a resolution to this mess.
I hate to admit it but sometimes I'm glad Aaliyah doesn't see what people say about her. I'm glad she doesn't see that her legacy is forever tied to R.kelly. If she was here I'm sure she would be upset that her name is brought up every time anything R.kelly related is in controversy.

I'm sorry but to me, diane is the queen of shade. I think she's wildly embarrassed/ ashamed with what she allowed. Barry may have known stuff but, ultimately, the responsibility of keeping things in Aaliyah's world safe rested squarely on her parents' shoulders. They failed. Period.

And lastly, I strongly believe that some scandals will always be associated with some figure names, whether they have spoken out publicly about it, or not, unfortunately some will always hold "their truth", regardless of what. Like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah's #legacy is much stronger than that scandal that's associated with her name. It can never destroy that lady's legacy, which is why I don't give life to it. I simply focused on the great body of work Aaliyah has left us. She will continue to inspire generation after generation, long after we're all long gone; that's how powerful her legacy is. Keep in mind, her music has been in hostage for almost 15 years, yet that didn't stop music publications, fashion publications, fans, and growing new fans base, from taking about her or referencing to her work smh. If you asked me, Aaliyah's legacy is even stronger, than most deceased musicians who were a lot more successful than Aaliyah during their time here. A child is his or her parents responsibility to protect nobody else’s. Her parents failed to do that. I believe all of them (Diane, Barry, Rkelly) had their hands in on Aaliyah’s demise. Lisa Van Allen said Diane was sexually attracted to Rkelly and that he would have sex with Aaliyah’s mom while Aaliyah was sleep in the other room. I believe this is true. Put 2 and 2 together. If what she said isn’t true then where is the defamation law suit???? I think Barry expected her parents to protect her from R. Kelly while he took care of the business end of things. I feel conflicted on this subject purely because I don’t like to speculate on how someone chooses to grieve. Aaliyah was very private about her personal life. Our expectations that her family members want fame or the lime light is a very modern perspective. Diane had a music career that didn’t pan out and maybe that is a factor in her not wanting to do interviews. We don’t really know a lot about Aaliyah family background as a whole. Every family has their internal issues. I definitely think all the Adults like her parents, uncle, staff, assistants around Aaliyah and RKelly have alot to answer for because they condoned the behaviour to happen. Tony, I must agree on the subject of AALIYAH'S Mom. Until she tells her own side of things there will always be these questions lingering out there. I also agree about the uncle. I think there are definitely some holes in his story. Who knows why AALIYAH'S parents never really spoke out on the subject of her marriage to R Kelly and on everything that went down concerning it. Maybe we will never know in this lifetime. Maybe AALIYAH and her parents agreed not to even discuss it in public and her Mom is trying to honor this. She had a family member in the business that she herself was also new too. She trusted him and prob still feels guilt and regret. They moved her to Missy and Timbaland after the annulment (if the whole marriage thing did happen). She prob tried to deny the marriage to try and not associate her daughters name with him anymore. Kelly was a big name like Cosby. They were well liked. The whole urine thing with evidence still had ppl chanting justice for him; you couldn't beat someone like that. So it was best to keep underwraps back then and move on quietly. I'm glad she's getting more love, cause she just doesn't like dealing with drama. She's where Aaliyah got her traits from. They didn’t do enough during her debut way too focused on ensuring her fame instead of making sure she was mentally okay. There’s old clips of her records with rob and co and you see her and a gang of old men. One of them even said they’d pick her up from school. Aaliyah said shes be in the studio from 4pm to 6am. A TEEN ALONE- there’s no way ms diane was always there it’s plain and simple. I try to give her a little leeway because unexpected loss of a young healthy child is truly a pain that never goes away but much of Diane’s silence can be attributed to guilt. Folks say Michael died an angry and bitter man and that cancer truly festered in him. I’m just glad Aaliyah is at peace part of me feels like she knew she wouldn’t be here quite as long as her contemporaries.
When it comes to Aaliyah I get upset because her death could have been avoided. I watched the Dame Dash video and he was against her working with Hype Williams because he does too much when he doesn’t need to. The shot on the Miami soundstage should have been enough footage for the video. And there’s no way she would have gotten on that plane if she knew It was overweight, there’s so many pieces missing to the puzzle when you look at it. My heart really hurts for baby girl because she really did deal with so much at such a young age, I really hope that she had therapy. She wanted Loose Rap, the 2nd song on AALIYAH Self Titled to be the 1st single, but they went against what she wanted and put We Need A Resolution out first. Think about other songs like Try Again or Are You That Somebody? She only performed those songs at Tv shows and venues. Why not MTV or AMAs? She was nominated for Grammys too. I personally feel like both Barry and Diane should've come together as family and just own up to their mistakes 😕. I truly believe that Aaliyah was 100% about her carrer and 0% about sharing her private life to the world and I think the reason why Diane and Rashad NEVER shares anything from that part of her life is because they’re still loyal to Aaliyah and they have kept their word to this day. Their silence makes me respect them even more. Aaliyah never spoke about the R Kelly situation when she was alive herself. I think the problem with us today is that we view celebrities as open books and we find ourselves entitled to know everything about them (I myself, sometimes gets drawn into certain things and want answers), but we quickly forget that Aaliyah was DIFFERENT. She was one in a million and a real genuine person and she wanted her fans to only remember her as a great entertainer and a good person, we should also respect her wishes if we really love her. To keep her legacy alive is just to continue to spread her music like crazy instead of digging into her personal life. I’m sure she would have hated that. She never even publicly said that she was dating Dame Dash and called him ”a great friend” (although we saw all these pictures and videos of them holding hands), that’s how private she was. My honest opinion: I don’t think her family purposely pimped her out. They dropped the ball big time, But we have to be mindful of looking at things from 27+ yrs ago with “2020 vision” 1. Aaliyah was R Kelly’s first known victim so there was no pattern of behavior to compare their relationship to. 2. If we’re honest- the further back on time you go, the more ok society was with relationships between older men/young girls. Now everyone likes to say they knew Kelly waiting outside the highschool for girls was a red flag... But Kobe was doing the same for Vanessa back in the day (Elvis, etc.) The problem came when we found out Kelly was a serial child molester/sexual abuser 3. Also today, we are a lot more over protective of our kids. But I don’t think a 14/15 yr old going to the studio alone (especially a family owned one) was that bizarre.. Do we think Michael Jackson was never alone recording with Quincy Jones?... Remy Ma always says-proudly- “I was a girl in high school running around with grown ass men” (Pun & Joe in the 90s)... I also think lil mo said she was touring alone with artists as a teen.
Now with all that aside.. Barry still has proven to be evil and shady in his business practices.. He mishandled her legacy all these years.. is using it to his advantage now to re launch Blavkground..And in regards to her passing- his niece and biggest artist had no business being on that plane. Aaliyah was the victim and we don’t know what conversations she had with her mother and brother. What secrets she asked them to never speak of. I think their family was/is reserved just like Aaliyah really was. Aaliyah had to really break through her shell and become who she became, and even then she was reserved. Her mom said that Aaliyah really didn't have to be what she became for her to be happy with her daughter. They liked their alone time as a family. She was always with her brother/family because that's what brought her comfort. They took it hard when the accident happened. I'm sure it's still hard, because they just can only think about "what if" everyday they wake up. They probably wished they had protected her more. That's their babygirl/baby sister.

Barry Hankerson didn’t like his artists working with other folks like that. So Barry probably didn’t want her to work with Hype for just selfish reasons. Thats just my opinion. He was against Toni Braxton working with other folks in the industry which made her eventually leave.

Who’s to say R Kelly wasn’t upset & envious after working with Aaliyah, makes you think... Also Jay Z was trying to be with Aaliyah kinda sorta and got friend zoned & then R. Kelly & Jay did “The Best of Both Worlds” tour straaaange. Hype decided on the Bahamas for some strange reason.. They didn’t do enough during her debut way too focused on ensuring her fame instead of making sure she was mentally okay. There’s old clips of her records with rob and co and you see her and a gang of old men. One of them even said they’d pick her up from school. Aaliyah said shes be in the studio from 4pm to 6am. A TEEN ALONE- there’s no way ms diane was always there it’s plain and simple. I try to give her a little leeway because unexpected loss of a young healthy child is truly a pain that never goes away but much of Diane’s silence can be attributed to guilt. Folks say Michael died an angry and bitter man and that cancer truly festered in him. I’m just glad Aaliyah is at peace part of me feels like she knew she wouldn’t be here quite as long as her contemporaries.
When it comes to Aaliyah I get upset because her death could have been avoided. I feel like the mystery of this situation is tied to how personal and mysterious Aaliyah was and not in a really good way because this really puts a dark cloud over her career .And the fact that nobody has stood up for her yet is ridiculous.

I truly believe that Aaliyah was 100% about her carrer and 0% about sharing her private life to the world and I think the reason why Diane and Rashad NEVER shares anything from that part of her life is because they’re still loyal to Aaliyah and they have kept their word to this day. Their silence makes me respect them even more. Aaliyah never spoke about the R Kelly situation when she was alive herself. I think the problem with us today is that we view celebrities as open books and we find ourselves entitled to know everything about them (I myself, sometimes gets drawn into certain things and want answers), but we quickly forget that Aaliyah was DIFFERENT. She was one in a million and a real genuine person and she wanted her fans to only remember her as a great entertainer and a good person, we should also respect her wishes if we really love her. To keep her legacy alive is just to continue to spread her music like crazy instead of digging into her personal life. I’m sure she would have hated that. She never even publicly said that she was dating Dame Dash and called him ”a great friend” (although we saw all these pictures and videos of them holding hands), that’s how private she was. Let’s just be happy her music is out and share it with those who never knew her ♥️🌹

1. Aaliyah was R Kelly’s first known victim so there was no pattern of behavior to compare their relationship to.
2. If we’re honest- the further back on time you go, the more ok society was with relationships between older men/young girls. Now everyone likes to say they knew Kelly waiting outside the highschool for girls was a red flag... But Kobe was doing the same for Vanessa back in the day (Elvis, etc.) The problem came when we found out Kelly was a serial child molester/sexual abuser

I think their family was/is reserved just like Aaliyah really was. Aaliyah had to really break through her shell and become who she became, and even then she was reserved. Her mom said that Aaliyah really didn't have to be what she became for her to be happy with her daughter. They liked their alone time as a family. She was always with her brother/family because that's what brought her comfort. They took it hard when the accident happened. I'm sure it's still hard, because they just can only think about "what if" everyday they wake up. They probably wished they had protected her more. That's their babygirl/baby sister.

I watched the Dr. Oz episode yesterday and from what Barry was saying... It feel like something about to happen and he putting himself in a position to not catch the heat. Who’s to say R Kelly wasn’t upset & envious after working with Aaliyah, makes you think... Also Jay Z was trying to be with Aaliyah kinda sorta and got friend zoned & then R. Kelly & Jay did “The Best of Both Worlds” tour straaaange. Hype decided on the Bahamas for some strange reason.. Then Damon Dash said Lenny Kravitz sent her a jet, but Hype ended up taking it if you understand what I’m saying and where I’m going with this. A lot of sketchy things in my opinion and maybe that’s why Hype really doesn’t speak on it. 👀 Weird! But that’s just me from doing research. Also Jay & Damon I think we’re about to fall out soon.
