PETERBILT BIG CAM CUMMINS KNOCKING AFTER I JUST DID THE RODS AND MAINS?

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
  • AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, OVER THE WINTER I REPLACED THE ROD AND MAIN BEARINGS IN THIS ENGINE. WHEN I GOT THE CALL FROM THE OWNER, I WAS SICK. HE SAID "YOU JUST HAD THIS ENGINE APART AND PUT RODS AND MAINS IN IT. NOW ITS KNOCKING!" WHAT MISTAKE COULD I HAVE MADE? I DOUBLE CHECKED EVERYTHING I HAD APART. I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL GOOD. MAYBE I WAS WRONG. REGARDLESS OF WHAT I DID WRONG, I WILL MAKE IT RIGHT.

Nothing worse than customer calling saying something you've worked on is not right. I know the feeling. Luckily it was something other than what you worked on. Nothing better than an old TV box for a creeper. The shiny cardboard lets you slide!! lol

JC, so sorry this old 😅friend worried you like he did, he guessed the issue was caused by your last repairs without knowing any facts. I have had friends like this myself when I was 24 hour towing company and some repairs. So many people took me for granted and it finally broke my spirit to help. As I recall this person hasn't taken your advice on his truck and it's bitten him in his rear end. He'll never find someone as fair & decent as you are so now he's on his own.. fantastic job of course. I can only hope you have a tire warranty to cover damage to the vans tire. How'd you get the truck back to the shop? I can only guess..😮.

I had one of our mack tandems do the same thing this winter only it tore about 2/3s of the way around and the pulley was in there shaking after it ripped the belts off. It’s a plow truck front drive pto and it was a joy to change

Our big cam broke the crank pulley several years ago of course I didn’t realize the pulley was separate from the damper so I got the damper and then had to order the pulley. At least it was in a 9370 so there was enough room. I didn’t have to mess with the radiator

That Cummins alternator pulley is a common breakage . Hit the pulley bolts with a 1/2” impact wrench , it will be fine . The adapter will also be fine .

I think we'll find that as our supply chain continues to diminish making a fixing the old stuff will be invaluable. It's still worth it to run the old big cams but you gotta go through them good. Not on a tight budget. That one sounds alot better than the one I used to drive. That thing sounded like it was full of rocks. 😂

That is the worst feeling , when you just put something back together and are told there is a noise , Had a buddy with a Western Star with that same exact problem, he was already to pull the pan and found a shiny spot on the pulley were it had cracked. Not a great design.

I figured that be the truck you had problems with. I needed a rear brake job on the long weekend. I paid a mobile mechanic and bought the parts myself. My regular garage was too busy.I would have paid double. Im in new england. Prices are higher and parts can be hard to find,no matter the costs.

He is now going to have to potentially spend more money to fix it than it would have originally cost. By not r&r the engine it's just going to be a chain of failures until it gets a blue tooth con rod
