    Oh it also looks like I've misspelt separate in the video, please ignore that silly mistake lol

    The pool for competitive women gamers is intensely small compared the pool for male gamers. Just look around, most gamers are boys and only recently did we see a rise and acceptance of girl gamers and it's already hard for a dude to not get flamed for being a noob in game. Now imagine being a girl on top of that. She be bombarded with flirts, flaming and weirdos. But, it's looking good now since almost 99% of the fellas I play the game with are decent men. Let's give it a few more years and that competitive pool will increase and we can have co-ed tourneys.

      Exactly, riot themselves have made it clear that their intent is for the competitive seen to be co-ed in the future, like how they recently said that the reason the game changers championship won't take place in a big venue is that they don't want to encourage women to stay in a separate competition, and instead want them to compete at masters and champions. Game changers exists as a means to give women a space to develop and catch up with men who have gotten to develop their skills more.

Also lets just look at the world of professional physical sports, where there are only a handful of women who are competing within in men's leagues, and most of them will not be playing into the highest and most prestigious of the leagues; only playing in their region's/nation's league, and often times in their 2nd-4th division. I remember seeing tweets on how a lot of women lose their passion to go pro simply becaus they're constantly treated with verbal abuse and disresepect simply because they exist in the lobby. Even 3kliksphilip made a good point on this: Even if they were to make it to Tier 1 and win something like a CS:GO Major, they still wouldn't be respected simply because they're women, meaning there's very little incentive for women to even give the idea of going pro a shot. Game Changers and other all women's leagues are supposed to give a place for women to compete without dealing with all the negativity they often receive and to hopefully revive the inspiration for women to go pro in esports. As long as people keep harassing women online and as long as the women's leagues don't interfere with the main leagues, I don't see why they can't be a thing.

If you have to block and mute everyone in every match you play, you might as well not play at all, which is a big problem for either sex, but women just deal with it tenfold compared to guys. I can join multiple games in multiple days without bumping into a toxic teammate. Even if I do, I can shut them up by simply carrying them. Women deal with it every other match, meaning they have to gamble their time, sanity, and rank by simply breathing into the mic to give comms. I just wanted to post my reply to another comment as sole comment on this video:
    Creating separate spaces for men and women aren't due to their biological differences. Cognitive function is not *significantly* different between the two sexes in regards to online gaming (UPDATE: I replied to a comment to open discussion, and what I said here was wrong. There are biological differences but the significance of those differences is still under debate and research). It's more systematic, than anything. There are women in radiant who have a high skill ceiling, but they're not picked up by the big franchises because of the rostering process. There is an implicit bias towards male gamers, for one of the reasons I will discuss. Franchises don't only earn money from winning tournaments. They earn money from sponsorship and viewership. These two factors are correlated. Higher viewer = better sponsor deals. A roster full of big names (usually males, like TenZ and aspas) garners more support from viewers. Women are often less popular in the esports simply because there isn't a large enough viewership for them, therefore franchises don't wish to roster them. It can be argued that players like ploo and Kyedae are high ranked players with a decent skill ceiling, but the women who are at the very top are often ignored. It is simply not the case to say that it is due to biological reason, but rather because women are unpopular DUE TO the idea that women are less capable in the gaming sphere. That is what riot is trying to navigate; in the hopes that big franchises like SEN, C9, LOUD etc. can find value in the players who just so happen to be women

      I think a lot of teams could potentially see recruiting women as a ''risk'', which is honestly crazy. That being said, it probably takes 1 team to recruit a good female player for others to acknowledge the fact that women can compete on the same level.

    • @c00b
      @c00b Рік тому +4

      I feel like it is unreasonable to say there is absolutely no biological factor. And I am trying to be as unbiased as possible. Other than ranked play, If you look at some tournament stats, players In the game changers scene who transitioned to female like keenc or bob outperform many female players slightly. This is only an observation that I want to point out so we can think about it. Also you see tier 1 gc teams like version 1 lose to tier 3 teams like nsic. I understand that we want to see women as biologically equal to men but I have always found it better to highlight our differences so that we can appreciate each other for what we do differently

    • @aquariia3723
      @aquariia3723 Рік тому +6

      @@c00b Actually, you are correct. How I stated it was wrong. There are biological differences, but the *extent and significance* it weighs in competitive gameplay is still under debate. Women tend to have higher communication skills while men are usually better at visuospatial tasks, both necessary to play any team shooter well. The research is still growing, but there is underwhelming evidence that men or women are better at playing games as each sex gender *seem* to exhibit higher skills in different areas of the game. However, there are always both men and women who will be at the top of each skillset, no matter what. And I think that's the reason why women and men should compete alongside. In the context of Valorant, if men exhibit a higher visuospatial navigation, then I would put the male player as an awper. If a woman is not so great at mechanics but has high degree of awareness and communication, then I would put her as an initiator. However, back to what I mentioned before, there are still both men and women who excel on certain skillsets. And that's what VCT is all about. It's just generally harder to find women with these high skillets mainly because of the systemic issues I mentioned in my first comment. With what we know so far, even if there are significant biological differences, I think we can use that to our advantage and provide teams with the best skillsets for tournaments. :) The sad thing is that there are limiting factors as to why women aren't selected for these VCT teams such as possible sexual assault, misogyny, weird team dynamics, etc..

      @koy7896 Рік тому +4

      Well they are definitely both playing in radiant and at pro level, however that's what this is about, a lot of orgs would just not pick a female player for various reasons. From how the public would react (because there are people that would just say they are not in the same level because of the gender) to even logistic in the dorms or the contracts.
      And that's what the game changers is about, maybe there's a female player who is cracked and can improve more than any other radiant, but since there's no one picking them, they can't train under a coach or with sponsors. Players in a professional team have the advantage of having like 4 coaches telling them how to improve. They don't spawn at that level as some people think.
      If the public view on female pro players changes, then it would be easier for them to join a bigger team.

      The video is not about female players having the same skills as male players, it's about the possibilities they have, since there's a lot of viewers who would not like a female player in a competitive roaster and the orgs have to pass on talented female players.
      Again they are not at the same level because they don't have the coaching of a big team behind. And this is true for female and male players. Radiant is the highest level of competitive SOLO Q. Not really competitive team game, so being radiant can be really different to being a pro.
      But yeah game changers is just to improve the public view and make it easier for teams to pick up on female players. If someone watches the league and says "Wow they are really good, they could be in a big team" then that's a win for them.

    • @koy7896
      @koy7896 Рік тому

      I mean good for Keznit, he's really good.
      But as I said in the other comment, the idea is to improve public view. Because if a big team picks a female player, then she can learn from the best coaches in the world and play scrims with the best players in the world. Because that's how you can improve.
      A lot of AIM DEMONS that you find, are probably just good radiant players that were found by an org and the org trained them to be competitive players. I think if you are smart you can agree that a coach is a big difference.
      It's not that woman are bad or man are good. The people look at them different and that's not something good and in the end the idea is that more female players can play at the pro level.

      primarily due to abuse and sexism. I've seen firsthand lobbies sexually harass female players the very second they realized they're women, it's incredibly demoralizing and as such, few female players play the game overall. Despite the fact there are some GC players that genuinely could play at the VCT top level, they've been swatted down. For example, meL was denied trials with T1 VCT teams solely because their members didn't want to play with a woman player, with some players threatening to walk out if the team granted her a trial.
      Game Changers gives female players the opportunity that, for a multitude of reasons, they wouldn't get otherwise. We could debate all day if Game Changers is healthy for Marginalized Genders in Esports or if it undermines the concept that they're just as good as the boys, but it puts a spotlight on them in a way they would absolutely never receive otherwise.

    Better question is why do we separate men and women in the first place? If some sports favors men then so be it and if some sports favors women then so be it.
    As a viewer I am only interested in the best of what a human can do. It is the highest achievement of peak human condition that draws the imagination of the lesser humans.
    Just like in ancient times we are drawn to heroes with grand feat like slaying a lion or lifting weights beyond proportion. Not one would give 2 shites about a man or a woman getting mauled down by a lion or dying under a crushing house.
    I say clear all barriers to sports and only have 1 standard for all humans to compete in and let the best of the best stand on top of all others.

      no company has ever done anything for women just to 'feel good' let's be honest. Esports has always been marketed toward men, a big reason why women struggle to keep up on a competitive level. (For example, I'm never going to be as good as my brothers, because they have been playing for years and thousands of hours longer than I have, for fun when they were kids and then competitively when they grew up.) They make leagues like this because they see the potential in bringing in and including women. Firstly, to give them space to grow and become more competitive (younger girls will see them and see it as an achievable dream) and to pull in more fans. It's a win-win for the league and women. The only people who loose out are butt-hurt people who aren't the target audience anyways.

    You fail to mention that men and women are different. The distribution of skills and abilities of men and women shown on bell curves mean that men dominate the top 1%. They also dominate the bottom 1%. While the middle ground is equal. To be pro, you need to be in the top 0.005%, the chance of women being in that top 0.005% is extremely slim, but possible. Women need, and deserve their own space to compete, and be free from biological disadvantages. There are many factors that stop women from being competitive against men in all sports, not just eSports. That's why you see women and men separated in more than 99% of all sports. If you put them together, women will be out of the competitive game completely. Maybe every 10 years you'll have 1 woman in top tier esports, and the likelihood she will even be in the top 100 is going to be 1000's to 1.

    A lot of comments actually confirm why we need game changers. The public view is definitely not in the favor of female players and a lot of people really don't understand that you don't suddenly become good, if a team picks you it's because you have potential. Most pro's have more than 1 full time coach for them so that they can improve and win. If a team doesn't pick a player, they can't improve at the same level as the pros.
    So the if the public view improves, and there's less comments on a youtube video saying "Girls are worse". Then maybe a team can pick a female player regardless of what the public thinks, because they are an entertainment organization, and what the public thinks matters for them.

    some of these comments are difficult to read with ppl stating these "biological differences" and the role of testosterone, YALL everyone has testosterone pls stop using this vague hormone as an explanation. These narratives of sex difference are becoming outdated with research finding negligible difference in innate skill disparity between men and women. men and women are more alike than different the big biological gap we've been led to believe was research historically used against women to gender zone and gatekeep male spaces. the real difference is related to upbringing, exposure to gaming at early stages of childhood and other societal factors. I hear alot of ppl ask then why aren't there more women in gaming spaces? and their argument is that women are not naturally inclined to esports. It's not that women don't play games, they make up 45% of US gamers overall though only 14% are involved in the industry, why? It's not because of accessibility, women go into the industry AND ARE DRIVEN AWAY, THEY LEAVE due to gaming culture. Who would want to work in places with frat boy and incel mentality and men telling you that you are biologically disadvantaged.

Game changers exist because it gives these women a nice environment to play the game at their competitive level and get exposure aswell because none of these girls will ever be good in regular competitive valorant. Seperate spaces for both men and women ensure equal oppurtunity to compete. Especially if women have a hard time competing against tier 2 male teams, it just allows them to have a space in the competitive scene among themselves. Comparing the skill of a man and a woman is completely different than comparing the skill of two women. Both can have the same level of mastery, but biological differences change the peak performance level for men/women. Men have a more developed cerebellum, woman have better fine motor skills, men and women have different hormones. I think they should be seperate for much of the same reasons. And acknowledging that women and men are different does not mean that we are saying that they cannot be equal- it just allows for equity.

    • @puffoffluffedair543
      @puffoffluffedair543 Рік тому +7

      you're right to some extent, but the narrative of innate biological difference in gaming is becoming increasingly outdated and sex difference research like this is used to gender zone spaces like gaming. Yes there are 'innate' differences but these skill disparities are much lesser than we've been led to believe, in fact many studies of gender in esports found negligible skill differences rooted in "biology" rather its dependent on upbringing, exposure to gaming at an early age. boys usually find FPS games when they're barely 10 and girls usually much older well into late teens. I agree that separate spaces are important for visibility and equity, but incorporating women and non-cishet men in the gaming space will help change toxic gaming culture for the better and dissolve this toxic masculine hegemony.

      Let's agree to disagree here. Creating separate spaces for men and women aren't due to their biological differences as what the first reply states. Cognitive function is not different between the two sexes in regards to online gaming. That is what riot is trying to navigate; in the hopes that big franchises like SEN, C9, LOUD etc. can find value in the players who just so happen to be women.

So if young women aren't dominating in eSports you can only put it down to deadication to play hours - which is a hard call to blame on men. As you cant get more equal than a keyboard and mouse ss a base for sport. Part of men snd women being equal is not blaming the other for their own shortcomings. Setting up a separate category for women is stone-age thinking, and will only encourage weaker engagement. Because one group can become a champion with 4 hours of daily practice, but the other needs to put in 12 hours daily to become champion. If I get abuse in a game it encourages me to dig in and dominate, and not walk away whining, so I don't think anyone buys that excuse. We need to judge all eSports on merit on a level playing field. Toxicity and sexism are sadly present on every single video game. I can totally understand why a female will stay away from this shit toxic environment some men can put them into. However, you are completely disregarding the amount of hours, health issues and mental damage pro Tier 1 players have to put up with to get there.
    Toxicity is not the major reason why there are no pro women playing with men, the reason is there are not as many women willing to sacrifice their 20s to have a shot at the pro scene as there are men. Even if we compare it to other sports with no comms the outcome is the same.
    The biggest example is chess, no talking/messaging even eye contact and yet Magnus, Caruana, Hikaru and any other top GM will obliterate any female chess player in history.
    Look up "best ____ player" and 99% of the time it will be a man, and interesting enough a good % will have died a young age, got a mental illness, are going through depression or have unfortunatelly killed themselves.
    Toxicity sadly decreases the women player base but it will not discurage a top radiant female player from trying to reach pro. Even in League, the most toxic/disgusting videogame ever made, there has been women playing along men on T1, and if there is precent then it can be replicated.
    Game Changers is defintelty doing something good by giving women a space where they can compete at a leveled environment, this encourages the talented amateur female gamers to try persue a career in esports and overall their playerbase. But saying it's needed to resort to this event due to most of its players being "looked-down" to is an utter fallacy.
    If there is something average women look more down to than a male-gamer is a female-gamer.
    And no 4:39, there is no "need for more diversity and representation in esports". If you are good you make the cut, if not you'r out. Is Argentina racist/toxic for not having a single black/asian player in the world-champions team? And France "inclusive" for having half their players black?

    Because women represent a smaller amount of competitive gaming, it's easy to point at the ones that do bad and say "women are worse." Men and women are equally bad and good in the competitive scene, but we see more good male players simply because there's more men in the scene. This is why VCT Gamechangers is a thing; we are trying to level out the playing field that has been male-dominated for years. It has been a great opportunity for female gamers to show their talents. I hope to see more from Gamechangers 👍
