Thank you so much! I'm new to blender and I've been struggling with this for weeks now. Your tutorial was the one that clicked. Thank you for taking the time to explain this in such detail!
Thankyou so much. Trying to create some custom bases for my new skaven set and this was perfect! Was struggling to displace surface of a cylinder and this made it so obvious where I was going wrong. Appreciated.
hi mate love the video, although i am running into a problem. everything worked fine for the circular bases but when i tried it on the plane as soon as i add the displace it turns into either a big tower or a reverse tower. ive tried multiple times and still cannot get it to work.
Sorry for the long time to respond, didn't see the comment. If you are still stuck try ctrl+a and apply the scale. If that makes no difference a smaller number in the displace modifier is the only thing I can think of.
CTRL+R at 2:15 just gives me the option to make verticies on one of the lines going out from the middle, I get no faces connecting them :( Shift+Ctrl+R gives me an option to place one circle however... maybe they changed it in 4.1?
I think It would depend on which edge your mouse is nearest to on the face when you press ctrl + r. Hope that makes sense, if still unsure make a basic cube and play around with the tool. I also have a more updated version of this video, not sure it’s any better though I used blender 4.0 for the newer one.
I wish the next video preview wouldn't show up at the end blocking your wood floor settings. I cannot for the life of me get it to look as good as yours. I can get the other ones to look great though. I use textures from Poliigon. Not sure if that matters.
Also if you are in edit mode the modifier doesn't show up by default, so tab out of edit mode or toggle it in the modifier stack at the top of the displace modifier. Just tried it in 3.4 works fine there.
Ok try this, In the displace modifier set the Coordinates to UV, then go to UV editing. To Unwrap I select all then cube project, now just select the faces you want to displace. In the UV editor with these faces selected you should be able to scale them up and down to effect the displacement (in the modifier turn on the option to view in edit mode to see what it’s doing). Or this Make the model small, in the item where the scale is shown you can select all the scales and type “1/10” for example. Apply the new size. When you have finished make it back to the original size by typing “1*10” Typing this maths in just makes it easier to keep track of the base size. Hope this helps.
Thank you, this was one of the first videos I did. I think I got the sound levels better as I made more. When I can make videos again I’ll probably redo this one.
@@HuntsForgecan you make the video again without the music or with lower volume? I'm working on a project and this video looks like it can work. My project is mosaic ( planning to use the veroni something pattern for it) the texture needs to be on an animal silhouette. The animals silhouette are actually SvG images that planning to modify. I'm having problems with the textures as it just appears along the edges and nothing on top 😢
Blender ASMR. I'm here for it.

Thank you, and due to this video, i'll even be able to include a hole for my magnets that don't fit the standard warhammer bases
Hope it works! I would also use a Boolean with another cylinder to cut a hole just the right size.
Oh wow, this was a great tutorial! That is a pretty quick method.
Yep I just used it again myself for an eBay mini rescue.
You and Blender are both impressive
Wow, this is some good stuff! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks again for sharing your techniques.

Nice tutorial, but can I make displacement or height map using the modifier?
Yes sure, unless I'm misunderstanding your question. A voronoi pattern makes good cracked earth.
@HuntsForge can the cracked path be modified? Like more space in between cracks. Can you make a tutorial please.
Thank you very mach.

Thanks, I have moved it so the settings should be visible. It’s not that critical just make small adjustments.
wonderfull simple way, thanks for sharing
Thanks, I still use this method. Hope it works well for you too.
does anyone know why displacement mod keeps making my base into a sphere ?
same for me
so same thing happened to me but if you change the coordinates to uv it should correct.
This is going to be awesome :D
i find this hard to follow, just at the start i spress what you press but extrusion doesnt follow what happens on your video lol
displacement modifier didn't work perhaps because it is 3.2 blender that I use
Should still work, it needs quite a lot of geometry. Subsurface, before displacement.
I can't quite remember it it's been a while since I made any.

i cant get my sci fi bases to look like yours :( . The global setting just makes the texture repeat a ton of times and looks super small. any tips ?

Its really cool, tho I thought around 30 times you’ve been falling asleep
can anyone explain why some times i implement the subdivision it makes my whole model nearly as flat as a pancake?
Not sure, but maybe apply scale to the model first?
@@HuntsForge ive tried it. done it the exact same way as you did. been redoing it 10-20 times now and only once did it work
@@HydroX1334 I think the subdivision might make it flat if there's no slight bevel on the sharp edges. Ctrl+b is the hotkey.
@@HuntsForge thx for the tip gonna try that out
@@HuntsForge that didnt do it either sadly
Thank you!
hey there .... rly good tutorial so far
but when i select the bottom edges and do a grid fill nothin happens
maybe you can help me
Thx alot dude :)
Only thing I can think of is to make sure there is an even number of vertices on the loop that you are trying to grid fill.
@@HuntsForge that helped alot
Thx bud
and just like that i made a million bases lol
Have more bases than minis now!
Go forward with something spiritual.
The music was a bit too loud to listen to your voice. Otherwise fine video

Turn off the funeral music, cannot hear what your saying…
I know, it was an early video, I might remake it one day.
That background music really is no good idea. Stopped from watching the full video, sorry
