If it makes you feel any better, I used to work in publishing, and I remember, next to lawyers, doctors and medical professionals in general were one of the most popular professions for the people that sent in submissions. I had to pause at the beginning of the vlog when you were talking about this would be your last chance to write. I can assure you, as a person attending RN school, that is NOT the end in pursuing a creative outlet. Yes, I have been delayed, depressed, and dissuaded from writing/reading because school must come first (make your money, honey) but I do every now and then make time to read and write. I'm graduating in December and my goal is to really work on a WIP that has stuck with me since highschool. You'll make it dear. Because I was in the exact position when starting nursing school. But it does get better. Dear, this is long... Sorry.

new subscriber here✨✨ as an emerging theatre artist working on writing a full length play, i feel you on so many levels here. if there’s anything i’ve learned from writers, school, and writing myself is 1) the first draft is always trash, but it is the groundwork for what you’re writing! after all the shitty writing is out of the way, then you go into the details and you really notice what works and what doesn’t. 2) sometimes the thing you’re creating is not always the thing, meaning, what you’re making now may not be what it will end up being and that is totally okay! god knows my play has changed directions like three times in the past two years. trust that your creative mind knows what it’s doing. i believe in you and am proud of the work you’ve put in!✨🥰

I've always thought I'd love to read something you've written so don't be too hard on yourself. 😊 I'm writing a couple projects as well, but I'm not on the Nanowrimo forum. 🙁 I have a couple tips when inspiration is hard to come by you may or may not find useful. 1) Walk away. Take a shower, take a walk, fold laundry, or do anything that seems mundane you have to accomplish. Everyone needs mental breaks and sometimes a moment of self care will make the mind wander into "inspiration land" again. Lol! 😂 2) Listen to music or soundtracks that make you think of your story. 😃 I hope either of those tips help. Happy writing!

not boring at all, really enjoyed this! getting this done in 23 days is a HEFTY goal and you're making such great progress. even if it feels like what you're churning out is hot garbage-that's truly the way of first drafts. writing boring parts is always zzzz and i think it's okay to not constantly be excited while writing because after all, this is still labour. plus you're writing under a deadline which is!!! MED SCHOOL!! i'm kinda jealous of u bc i was supposed to begin the journey to become an oncologist a year ago but i was really demotivated due to the number of years it would take me to become one (+ fam pressures) so i went offtrack and planted myself in the "business" kinda field but it's so cool to see u pursuing it :)) guess i'll just vicariously live thru u haha :)) also my ‘writing’ pinterest board strictly believes on quantity > quality principle in this case so you're on the right track!! i recommend reading some of ur fav instagram blogger's writing when ur feeling uninspired (my favs r barryhappy & middleclasstycoon). this also really motivated me to write for this national writing contest in my country so ty for this (ENTERTAINING) content

I can relate as well! If it makes you feel any better, I’m in dental school myself (it’s not med school, I know hehe) and I had the same fears as well. To a certain extent, it was true - my first year wasn’t very creative. But I found out that it was because I wasn’t actively making time to do anything creative, and that was the key to keep writing my novel 😄 Also, congrats on getting into medical school!
dental school is a huge endeavor!! congrats on going through it!!! i definitely need to take this advice to heart. it's about actively carving out time for creativity 💛

Second, I'm proud to see you working on a novel - you're doing something I'm still bringing myself to try again (I just looked at my old novel from NaNo 2014 and it's hot garbage). I wish you good luck throughout the rest of the month, I know it's hard, especially if you're not that invested in the story you're writing. The last thing I wanted to say was that I hope you still make time to do the creative things that make you happy. I have never gone to med school, so I can only imagine the workload and what your schedule might be like, but even if you just carve out 5 minutes a day to write, it will still work towards building a story in the long run. Also, I think it's super importnat to have a hobby that's not tied to external rewards (e.g. grades, job prospects, money). So keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing the next vlog!

Starting work on a new project, and loosing interest halfway through is possibly my biggest problem when it comes to writing. Related to that is normally when I come up with an idea I want to play with I have a specific mood or atmosphere I want my writing to canvey, and I get very discouraged when I don't feel that what I'm writing matches the mood I'm going for.

wow this could be an entire video topic lmao. but it boils down to: 1) healthcare is a human right. there is a disgusting amount of disparity within the industry and i want to do what i can to protect the underserved. health is a baseline necessity, whereas things like stories, you can only fully enjoy when you have other needs met, if that makes sense. (not to discredit careers that aren't essential needs! i just feel like i need that element to keep my motivation) 2) so much of my identity is tied to being a student and wanting to learn. medicine is a field in which you're always required to stay learning/keep yourself updated/you have to take exams to keep your credentials. i like the idea of never being allowed to be stagnant/complacent in your knowledge
