His daughter’s sad little voice saying Daddy I’m sorry I dropped the groceries breaks my heart every time. I don’t know how anyone could hurt an innocent child. 😢
As a father of a daughter, that makes me so mad I could punch through a wall. I can't even imagine how angry I'd get if that happened to my little girl.
I'm the same. It breaks my heart that despite everything she went through she was worried about the groceries.
“Amistad”
@@birch5757 "because"...you are (from the sounds of it), a really good dad.
@@Da.Tinman thanks, I try to be. Appreciate you.
This movie has a star studded cast already, the fact that they had both father and son Donald and Kiefer Sutherland was just the icing on top
Yes. Both of them have played a wide range, but more often negative or offbeat characters than good guy ones. Being cast here as not related to each other and on opposite sides of the struggle was interesting.
Yes!!!!
Yes!!!!
She must not have seen The Hunger Games if she didn't immediately recognize him.
The judge was freaking Patrick McGoohan from The Prisoner.
"I just thought our kids could play together." My favorite final line ever.
”Now imagine she’s white”
That part and speech broke me. No other movie has moved me to so many tears.
“Amistad”
they were white lol. true story it’s based on was a black guy who raped 2 white girls lol
Matthew McConaughey's closing argument has stayed with me ever since I first watched this movie.
Incredible film.
Also this was a Joel Schumacher film?! Man had some real talent and range.
Yep. And somehow he managed to push out Batman & Robin.
@@11DNA11
That's what I meant by range lol.
To be fair to him that was an early example of a DC property being taken out of the Director's hands.
It's a schumacher film? Huh now I'm wondering where the neon lighting is in this movie? The man loves neon lighting like Tarantino likes feet.
Matthew McConaughey faz um advogado de novo em Amistad.....
Funny enough, that argument was actually first posited by a member of the *jury* in real life. I don't think the defense attorney used it.
Looney's testimony, with his "TURN HIM LOOSE" war cry, always gives me chills! Great film!
Me too!!
I cry at that scene every time! That man is a FANTASTIC actor! John Grishman based this on "To Kill A Mockingbird".
Chris Cooper is such an awesome actor.
It’s interesting because he performs the exact same line with nearly the same delivery in Seabiscuit. Just as impactful in a totally different context.
That moment got to me the most. And that's saying a lot considering all the profound, powerful moments in this movie.
Mississippi Burning is based on a true story and the events surrounding it. It is an incredibly intense courtroom drama as well.
Another emotional movie! Spectacular!
@@susanconstable2113 More so with the Green Goblin AND the Captain of the USS Alabama from Crimson Tide.
did this movie except it was a black guy that raped 2 white girls
Investigative drama more so than courtroom.
This is why I so enjoy your reactions. You are so genuine. I watch others who comment about subtext and cinematography. But you put your whole heart in when watching. Don’t ever change!
As a father, there are some things worth defending my child's honor over even if it meant falling on the sword. I completely get the motivation of Jackson's character in this movie.
Any father would do it.
@@11DNA11 that’s a nice thought, but unfortunately not every father would.
@@11DNA11 I know why people are saying this (there is nothing wrong to have these feelings), but this is not the reality
What about the child? No father to support her and the family, additional trauma for her whole life and the inital suffering is still there. And how does it defended the honor? Nobody can take someone's honor, you can just lose it if you are doing bad things.
One vicitm has a thousand times more honor than a million rapists.
What would be then the police men have been killed too? What if people do the same thing for other crimes? In the end there will be killing for insults because of the honor. The way to the hell is paved with good intentions.
I'm an uncle and I feel the same
Honor? They broke her! No kids ever! AT Frigging 10!??
That closing arguments scene was top tier! Brilliant acting in this movie.
Its one of the best scenes ever in a movie IMO.
I hated it. Nobody on the jury gave a damn about Carl Lee or his daughter and it took Jake pointing out it could have happened to a white girl for them to realize they'd have done the same thing he did. They didn't change in any way and it was a horrible way to end what was an outstanding movie up to that point.
@@raybrown5587 i think you missed the point.
@John Wheeler I didn't miss anything. You're white so you wouldn't understand.
@@raybrown5587
Well, I don't know that I quite agree with you for the same reasons, but I do agree it was really patronizing toward southern white people to presume they're all just dumb hick racists all the time and can't empathize with a black man whose daughter was brutally raped.
Hollywood always portrays the American south condescendingly as needing rescue from being these caricatured rabid blind racist with no intelligence or capacity for nuanced thought. Very insulting.
One of my favorite movies with one of my favorite lines: “He’s a hero, cut him loose”. So underrated
The defense's closing statement remains one of the most emotional moments in movies. Makes me cry every time as if it was the first time I watched it.
This and Shawshank Redemption...
I saw this movie in the theater when I was 16, and I remember trying so hard not to cry at several different points, although during the summation I realized I could hear several other people ugly crying. This movie really reflects much of what the 90s felt like when it came to the racial tension in America. Also want to second what people in the chat were saying about Erin Brockovich--there's a reason Julia Roberts won an Oscar for her performance.
Erin Brokovich is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
I saw this movie in theatres too. I never imagined that 20 years later things would still be as bad in America. I never imagined that 20 years later I would see an American president supported and endorsed by the KKK! 😔
@@bobdroll6381 Yawn.
@@ChucksCherubs3 You do realize this movie is a work of fiction, right? That Grisham race swapped the case this is based on? You do also realize that the KKK (or at least, the very tiny group still calling themselves that) endorse presidents in every election? That the group is thankfully near extinct, practically irrelevant, and has been for decades? Don't project your nonsensical political bias into a conversation about a fictional film. It just looks foolish. Incidentally, minorities thrived under Trump and he gained in their support throughout his term and going into the 2020 election. If you're going to play politics, at least get your facts straight.🙄
fun fact the story it’s based on was true but it was a black guy who raped 2 white girls d
Grisham confirmed that 'To Kill a Mockingbird' was a big influence on this story. Which was his first book, actually.
And his best!
@@trumphatesyou I tend to agree. In the foreword of the reprint I have somewhere, he says that it was his first book and apologizes for the writing because he was still figuring it out. I remember reading that and thinking that I'd read a lot of Grisham's books, and this one is probably my favorite.
The book hits in a different way. Like many of Grishams books this is one of the few movies I think is much better than the novel.
Book spoilers…
Rowark is immediately described as ugly, and there is no relationship between her and Brigance. Rowark has a relationship with “morally compromised.” Brigance is a severe alcoholic and his wife leaves him and doesn’t come back. Carl Lee spends a ton of time researching how to get an assault rifle from old war friends. The end speech comes from a juror member in deliberations, not from the closing argument.
The end of the book isn’t so uplifting.
His first book to read? Harper :Lee wrote the book.
If you liked this movie watch “The Client” based on another book by John Grisham and also Directed By Joel Schumacher
Yes!!! The Client is fabulous!!
The Client is great. I'd also recommend "The Pelican Brief". It's definitely my favorite. Hard to go wrong with Denzel and Julia Roberts.
I wish they could make "The Brethren" into a film. #1- Show how the twisted the Presidential Race is. #2- The stupidity of overblown jury awards.
“He’s a dead dog. I don’t care who it is”.
I don’t know if you ever figured it out but Matthew McCaughnehey’s wife in this is Ashley Judd, and if you’ve never seen Double Jeopardy (starring Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones) you’d probably like it.
She was also in the Divergent series.
She was also excellent in Kiss the Girls with Morgan Freeman as police detective and forensic psychologist Alex Cross.
One of my late mother's favorite movies. She was turned into a huge Matthew McConaughey and Samuel L. Jackson fan after this.
My mother watches this everytime it comes on TV
*Sam Jackson will go down as one of the greatest actors of all time*
Never has a movie started off so shocking, right from the get-go. This one stays with you forever. I saw it years and years back, and still can't get some images out of my head.
Never?
Saving Private Ryan has entered the room.
@@jkhoover true but even with that you know what's coming since they're approaching Normandy. You don't expect to see a 10 year old girl brutally raped in the first 5 minutes of a film.
@@anthonyanderson9303 And you didn't see it in this film, it was just implied. I've seen episodes of Law and Order that started with harsher crimes.
Wow, I forgot how absolutely ridiculous this cast is. Not many films with this much talent!
This is another of my all time favourites. All star cast giving a world class performance! Still amazes me how brilliant everyone was in this film!
The shorter of the two bad guys, the one you mentioned having a cigarette in prison, is Percy from The Green Mile. Ashley Judd plays Matthew McConaughey's wife. Also Lucian is played by Donald Sutherland who is Keifer Sutherland's father. Keifer is the one who got the klan started back up. He was in 24 I believe.
Now you must watch The Pelican Brief, also John Grisham, with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.
One more: the trial judge (Patrick McGoohan) was also King Edward in 'Braveheart'.
she really should watch The Lost Boys. KS was so damn good in that. and the Sheriff was Charles S. Dutton, another great actor that took a small role to make this even better. and the Deputy actor has been in tons of movies including the Bourne Identity.
@@Curraghmore he was also in the great movies Escape from Alcatraz and Ice Station Zebra
Donald e Keifer estão em ação de novo em Forsaken de 2015....
If she chooses to watch another John Grisham film adaptation, it should be The Client. It is just as good as A Time to Kill with top-notch performances in it as well.
I'm glad that at least a few people on UA-cam are watching such great classics again. Many people only watch the standard films that everyone knows, but such films are becoming more and more forgotten.
I liked when they had Deputy Looney on the stand and he said he'd do the same if it was his little girl, then yells out for Carl Lee's freedom. That said, I enjoy McConaughey's movies. I think you should watch Interstellar, one of my favorite sci fi movies with a good performance by McConaughey. You'd be mind blown and immersed with the story, visuals, and soundtrack. An underrated movie by Christopher Nolan, who also directed Dunkirk.
Being #25 on Imdb's top rated movies of all time is definitely not underrated.
The absolute best under-the-radar Matthew McConaughey movie is *Frailty.* Amazing thriller with an even better twist.
Frailty is good!I was thinking about watching it again.
Bill Paxton’s directing debut and what a debut it was. Such a great movie.
Wow! I just mentioned that one too. :)
I did a recent rewatch of Frailty and it still hits hard. Fantastic film!
Thanks for the recommendation & definately gonna watch it this weekend
As soon as I saw the title, I was like oh crap, Cassie's gonna go through the wringer on this one.
Matthew Mcconaughey's performance in the final statement was tearjerking. I'm glad Carl got justice for his daughter in this film.
I thought I could get through the closing statement without crying because it was a reaction but it gets me every damn time...
It’s a very uncomfortable film to watch at times but I think the performances of all were superb. Whether we cheered for them or despised them for their roles, they played their parts with aplomb.
This is a real heavy hitter. Definitely one of the most brutal racial dramas I've ever seen. 12 Years a Slave was another, which was already reacted to on this channel, by the way. According to the trivia section of IMDb; the defense's closing argument only required one take. And the tears were unscripted. That says a lot.
Higher Learning too.
American History X is another.
You do know where this movies plot came from , right ?
It came about after Grisham read a Real Case of Two White girls being &aped by a black man.
@@dtcdtc8328 So, what point are you trying to make? Yes, I am aware of the source material. Insinuating I don't has no relevance to anything I said in my original comment.
@@digidv85
" most brutal racial dramas" that was 100% Propaganda, wonder how those two White girls and their families feel about Grisham's "brutal racial drama"
This movie makes me weep. So many amazing actors in it, all just brilliant in these roles.
"John Grisham, the one all the Dads like"?! That had me cracking up. I first read this book when I was in high school. This is one of the few movie adaptations that I really like. Great cast, great script and they kept pretty close to the book which is good.
John Grisham didn’t want this made in to a movie, when he finally agreed he had creative control over it, and the uncut version was 4 Hours long, him and the director sat down and cut it down to this movie.
Two John Grisham novels that were made into great films: THE RAINMAKER (Matt Damon) and THE FIRM (Tom Cruise) and we want CASSIE to watch them.
The client and pelican brief are good too.
@@etpelle72 Cassie would love The Client!!!!!
And if you want to see Matthew McC back in a courtroom (16 years later), check out "The Lincoln Lawyer", co-starring Marisa Tomei. (No Oscar for her this time, though.)
BTW, apparently they're doing a "Lincoln Lawyer" TV series this fall.
@@Jessica_Roth I Love that movie!!
@@Jessica_Roth they already did it. season one is on Netflix now.
Powerful movie....yes, I cried when I heard his summation in court. I think Matthew's best movie !!!!
You said that you always put yourself in the character's position. That's the very definition of empathy, and empathy is the absolute highest human quality. You're an incredible person, Cassie, and I KNOW that everyone loves you. How could they not?
This movie was filmed in Canton, MS. At the time, I lived in Richland, MS which was about 30 miles away. "You hear they are filming a movie in Canton? It has Sandra Bullock in it!" Everyone thought that was so awesome lol. I was about 11 years old at the time and didn't realize how many more A list actors there were. Sam Jackson, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, Matthew McConaughey.
Hi This is the movie that showed how great an actor McConaughey is.If you love courtroom drama films and you haven't seen it yet, please watch Jagged edge with Glen Close and Jeff Bridges a classic.Great reaction as always.
Another great reaction to a very difficult movie to watch.
Also, kudos on your video editing here -I've seen a few other reactions to this movie and they usually wind up truncating way too much in order to keep it YT-friendly but wind-up killing the entire tenor of the movie. You handled the balancing act with this one brilliantly (as usual).
Hear, hear. Cassie has an excellent editor. When the best reactor and best editor team up it is gold.
i agree, its plessant to watch, i saw a few others but their cuts are egnoing to watch. thse cuts are good and flawless and as you saidf balanced
She definitely has the best editor from my perspective. I watch a lot of other reactors and I find myself saying “Too bad this wasn’t Cassie’s editor.”
Your innocence is endearing, your parents raised you right. I wish that you didn't become physically broken seeing hard to watch things. There are so many masterpieces that are a tough watch, but that's what makes them masterpieces.
This movie I watched in theater 25 years ago was tears and even now no matter how many times I watched it. I felt so much emotional. And even more so because now I am a mother.
I love all your reactions. Have a great day, enjoy life.
One of my favorite movies, john grisham is my favorite author. Pelican brief, the firm, the client and rain maker are my other favorite grisham movies, but there are a few more that i didn’t think were so good.
14:48 was my favorite scene…well next to the closing argument. And if you like the southern race type movies in the heat of the night with sidney potier and rod steiger is another one of my favorite movies.
Love Pelican Brief .... and lately, the premise makes more and more sense.
is it just me or is his older stuff better than newer? early books are great!
@@thejohnbeck You should read his 2nd Jake Brigance sequel, A Time For Mercy.
That was an emotional yet amazing reaction Cassie. I still enjoy watching this movie but there are scenes that still enrage me and make me sick. The cast and performances are outstanding.
The look on Carl Lees face looking at Tonya through the glass says everthing!!
I'm so happy you know "Jack Bauer" when you saw Kiefer Sutherland!
That was my favortie show back in the day and still all time favorite TV character!
I've been curious about this movie and I'm glad I got to see it through your eyes. This was very much a To Kill a Mockingbirdesk movie that had a lot of harsh realities but heartfelt ones too. So thank you.
When I saw you reacted to this, I knew you would have trouble with that first scene. You could see the pain in your eyes. It’s nice to know that there are still people in this world that care about others the way you do!
My son had to give a speech in high school for his Public Speaking course. The winner had his/her speech enshrined on video tape in the school library for ever. I suggested my son use the the closing argument Brigantz used in the movie….he did…..he won the competition….I was pretty proud.
21:16 "Oh my gosh, one guy got his hood pulled up... there are bugs in here!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite movies, one of the BEST cast ever. Great adaptation from the book - the final speech by McConaughey in the movie was actually a juror in the book - this was McConaughey's big debut and people wondered if he could hang with such a powerful cast - and he showed he belonged
Kiefer can play a bad guy so good, even though he’s such a sweetheart in real life. This one ☝️
“ Phone Booth”, The Lost Boys”, “Freeway” and and “Eye for an Eye” (which has a scene kinda like the beginning of this movie, that makes me ugly cry every time) with Sally Field. That one you absolutely need to see.

For all those who watched this movie, remember; this based as a true story. Look it up on the internet
32:10 - You quoted her in "Miss Congeniality"! LOL
While Grisham was writing the book, a new law was introduced that peremptories (twelve chances for both the prosecution and defense to automatically dismiss a potential juror without explanation) can’t be used to exclude everyone of a certain race, because of course it was being abused just like we see here.
How does that work practically? Can't you just lie and say it's for another reason? And why is discrimination on any of the other factors (age and sex for example) any better?
@@notthestatusquo7683 Because in this country there is a clear and undisputable history of deep racism. There are people alive today who's grandparents were raised by grandparents who owned other human beings. You're right, age, gender, and a lot of other factors matter too. But it's a pretty tiny statute to provide just a teensy bit of sanity to an otherwise completely broken system that is based on rules and laws that didn't treat everyone as a human being...and still doesn't as is evidenced by our entire judicial and penal systems. Our nation should be ashamed. The fact that we often get into arguments about that is just a sign of how bad it really still is.
This is a very good movie. I already know in some ways it is going to wreck her evening. It can be a very emotional movie.
I studied this movie extensively during high school. I remember the teacher asked the class, do you agree with what Carl Lee did? She was met with a resounding YES! Then she asked, do you think he should go to prison? She was met with a resounding NO! 15 years later and I smile thinking about it.
There may be directors or other production people involved in both this movie and "A Few Good Men" but that one was originally a play written by Aaron Sorkin, who was the creator of The West Wing and wrote "The American President" and a number of other plays as well.
Sandra Bullock’s character went to Law School at Ole Miss, where she met her husband who was a Basketball star and moved to Tennessee opened up a bunch of Taco Bell’s and adopted a young black kid that would become the inspiration for The Blind Side

Had a real difficult night. Once I heard "Hello Guys!" I immediately shot a big ol grin across my face! Thanks Cassie! Now let's watch her react to a movie from my favorite author, John Grisham. Watch "The Rainmaker" with Matt Damon. Another Grisham novel turned movie. Really good.
I think you forgot "The Client", as well as "The Chamber" , "The Pelican Brief" and my favourite "The Runaway Jury"!
A Time To Kill was actually was actually the first book John Grisham ever wrote, but it was limited to a few thousand copies and wasn’t well known . After the success of The Firm, it was pulled from the dustbin and published in paperback and the rest is history.
This is based on Grisham's first book. He couldn't even sell it out of his car trunk. He next wrote "The Firm". Which spent weeks on the best seller's lists. Now people were he Grey for more of Grisham's work and this was released.
Cassie you would love The Client! Book was written by same author and the cast is wonderful! Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones and the entire supporting cast really use their talents!!!
The Rainmaker with Matt Damon is also a good one
This is a movie that lives on its performances, and hits you right in the heart because the actors make you feel every emotion. And to think, Joel Schumacher made this movie inbetween directing Batman Forever and Batman & Robin! It’s hard to imagine a bigger change of pace and tone than that!
But thinking about it, all three movies are about men taking the law into their own hands to right injustices… hmm…
Not really that big of a shocker.
He also did Falling Down and 8mm which are just as grim in their tones.
Haha "John Grisham, The one that every dad likes" 👍😅
John Grisham didn't write A Few Good Men.
But he's a lawyer and he did write the novels or treatments for these films:
The Firm
The Pelican Brief
The Client
The Chamber
The Rainmaker
Runaway Jury
and several others.
Great pick!! A few good ones from John Grisham novels!! The Firm, The Client, Pelican Brief, Rainmaker…
A Tie to a Kill was Grisham's first book . The publisher would not release it. Years later after Grisham was a hit he made them publish it. You cannot miss with this cast it was amazing !!!!
I saw this when it came out in the theater and I still remembered most of that closing argument. Amazing stuff.
One of the men shot by Carl Lee was the annoying cuss of a guard in the Green Mile - the one who want to see 'one of the fry up close'. I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS - so genuine and heart felt - sometimes I cannot stand to see you tear up as it just breaks my heart. Thank you for reviewing this film... it has always been a favourite of mine.
This was the first big movie I saw McConaughey in. He was swoon-worthy. The other was Dazed and Confused.
I remember thinking he looked like a young Paul Newman. I knew he was gonna be a star after seeing this.
Great reaction to one of my favorite '90s movies. This is often one of my go to films when people say Joel Schumacher was a terrible director. He wasn't. Batman just wasn't his thing. But films like this, Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down, The Client, Tigerland, and Phone Booth proved he could be pretty damn great. You should react to some of his other movies, too.
Like most directors he need to understand the material, not try and mash it to his vision.
Apparently Keating dropped out of Schumacher's Batman, when JS said in a meeting "Why does it have to be so gloomy?"
Falling Down was great.
The judge is Patrick MaGoohan from the film "Braveheart" and Irish actress Brenda Fricker from "My Left Foot".
I’ve seen this movie quite a few times, and even when I was fairly young. This and other similar movies, with extreme storylines and hard hitting moments. I felt them when I was 13, but it hits differently when you see these movies the more life experience you have, and now again at 41 watching this, it feels even more different to when I saw it a year ago or so when it originally aired.
Nothing has ever hit harder than hearing her say that again. “Daddy, I’m sorry I dropped the groceries.”
Some people say the whole closing arguments were “reductive”, but sometimes it is JUST that simple for someone to pull their head out of their ass and think about what it’s like to be someone else.
This is a very good movie. I highly recommend you watch Mississippi Burning and The Lords of Discipline.
I legit watched this movie this morning. A very underrated Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew McConaughey, and Sandra Bullock movie.
That was the best summation I've ever heard. I tear up nearly every time.
Even though it came in third, THANK YOU for watching this!!!
*OMG. Sandra Bullock pulling up her hair and giving a smirk. arhghghghg*
Ghost of Mississippi (1996) is another good courtroom movie, and a true story.
Excellent movie. I've read almost all of Grishom's books. The Client and The Firm are my favorites
Hope you get around to them 🤗
I also loved 'The Pelican Brief' : )
YES! The Client, The Firm, and Pelican Brief are the BEST!! And although not John Grisham... Double Jeopardy I put in that same category of amazing Crime Thrillers.
The judge also played Longshanks in Braveheart. He's good at playing loathsome, smug characters
I love your references to "To Kill A Mockingbird". It's my favorite book of all time.
Cassie, I'd just read To Kill A Mockingbird before I saw this in the theater. Only had to read 2 chapters but read it straight through. This made me think of it too.
It is obviously a tribute to kill a mockingbird.. but Matthew is no Gregory peck I assure u of that.

Cassie, After watching your reaction again I remembered there’s a movie called Rules of engagement. It’s a military courtroom drama which stars Tommy Lee Jones, Samuel L Jackson and Guy Pierce. I really think you’ll enjoy it.
This was a great book and the movie stayed true to the book. A fabulous cast made the movie come to life. You are really picking up on a lot of the actors and where you have seen them. I'm glad you liked this movie even though it was about a very brutal crime.
This film was directed by Joel Schumacher. He also made Falling Down (1993) and Phone Booth (2002), two favorites of mine that I would definitely recommend! (You can skip his Batman movies though)
"Talk about the death penalty again, that'll kill the mood" actual lol
You're a good soul. It's been years and years since I watched this film, I'd forgotten how intense and moving it is. I was right there with you on the emotional rollercoaster like it was the first time watching.
Your reaction is the same heartfelt reaction from any real human being on this planet. Thank you. And when you made the comment (when those things walked outta jail)
" There's no way, They wouldn't get off. That would be everything wrong with the world" it reminded me ,an old lady here, please, when you have a moment listen to Bob Dylan's " The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" written 60 years ago... Not much as changed it'll stick with you like this movie.✌
Another great one is Primal Fear with Richard Gere and Edward Norton. Great courtroom movie!
Agree, would love to see a reaction to this one.
When your case judge is Longshanks from Braveheart you can always expect a fair trial.
I would do the same thing Carl did. However, his premeditation and fleeing prove he's not insane and knew the difference between right and wrong. So many In The Heat of the Night cast here too.
As despicable a villain as Kiefer plays, you have to admire how much fortitude it takes to play a character so evil with such talent.
And that's Ashley Judd as McConaughey very sweaty wife. She's in a lot of great stuff.
But she sweats so well!
She was Val Kilmer's wife in Heat, that's where Cassie was trying to place her. I wouldn't say she's been in a lot of great stuff. She was hot for a minute. Went off the deep end.
Kiefer has a lot of balls. He's taken a few roles that most agents would advise people to stay away from. I've heard him say that he's met people who won't shake his hand, because they associate him with some of the characters he's played, which is pathetic, but I guess a compliment to his acting?
I cannot wait to see your reaction to this movie..such a powerful movie!
RIP Joel Schumacher and thanks for give us this great film.
This movie is one of my all time favorites! That ending scene with the speech in the court room is highly inspirational and incredibly well done!
Two other films that would partner extremely well with this one: Mississippi Burning & Ghosts of Mississippi. The first is about the murders of Freedom Riders and the FBI investigation - features Gene Hackman/Willam Defoe /Francis McDormand.
Ghosts is a courtroom drama about the trial of the killer of Civil Rights Activist Medgar Evers and features Alec Baldwin/ Whoopie Goldberg/James Woods.
Both stunningly good and as intense as this film.
The Client (1994), also based on a novel by John Grisham, with Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon. For me it is much better than this movie.
As the KKK under its new banner of proudboys and oath keepers rise to power in the USA watching movies like this is a painful reminder of what the Republican Party wants the USA to look like.
You won me over when you said: "what every dad likes". This dad likes About Time and The Road To Perdition.
Also keep in mind this was the "First" Book that John Grisham Wrote and that was before The Firm was released. Since then, John's Books have been Bestsellers that have been made into Movies. Joel Schumacher directed this Movie as well as The Firm, Batman and St. Elmo's Fire in the 1980's. Ashley Judd's Mother Naomi as you know sadly killed herself not too long ago.
Man, I didn’t remember how this movie started, that was too much for the faint of heart. I guess it serves the purpose but wow. Rest of the movie is great. I wondered why it was not in tv much. Now I understand.
