And I'm over here like "I LIKE THE ONE WITH THE BIG OL' SWEDISH FURNITURE WAREHOUSE!" No, screw it, it's fucking cool. We've all had that fear of getting lost in an IKEA, despite them being in one line like most shops in Sweden.
Everyone has their own tastes in this stuff. I didn't want to post anything on it (because the original author was in the comments) but the fucking "Red Sea Object" SCP is my most hated of all time despite being the most upvoted article on the entire wiki.

There are a lot of people who think this is a funny SCP and or that it's a bit ridiculous but if you actually take a moment and think about it, this is a very scary SCP. Being trapped, trapped anywhere, is a scary thing and because its in a seemingly innocent place (a store where we all go) it is even more uncomfortable. Having it be an endless expanse with little to use as land marks, while having the "staff" attack and try to kill you periodically is a horrible hell. Think of all the things that you would have lost now spending your life in this store.....underrated SCP of the month goes to.......3008
Even the idea of all the lights turning off every night and all the beds are out in the open. That's like setting up a bed in the middle of the woods and trying to sleep there.
Anyone else feel really bad for the guy with the journal? Like he went through hell in that IKEA and just when he finally escapes the place, he gets killed.
I blame the guards outside the building... how slow would their reaction time had to have been to let the guy get killed? at most the guy who escaped should've had few bruises unless that specific SCP-3008-2 instance had superhuman strength, otherwise it would take more than a few seconds for a person to physically beat someone else to death with their bare hands in such a primitive manner with no precision to your strikes. Then again the author of the article seems to have full discretion of the logic and physics regarding the SCP or any sub-SCP's so there isnt much to argue against with that being the case
The moment in Confinement where Connor is laying on the ground and the SCP 3008-2 just says "The store is now closed. Please exit the building" was one of the most intense moments in the whole series. PS: your character was great Volgun :D

Theory: The staff will only attack those who use or reposition anything. When the journal author slept in the undisturbed beds, nada. But Exchange? Received nightly attacks. Even before that bit of sabotage where someone snuck part of a staff's corpse inside the walls. I think it may be because they made the walls and build houses, repositioned the lights, etc. Like teenagers getting kicked out of a store after building pillow forts or something.
@@CodeRed99911 honestly as a member of retail, this may be because many reset procedures involving changing displays and such in a place like this may happen during 3rd shift. Same as when they restock the concessions during the night to be looted during the day. So if you were a retail employee trying to do your mundane 3rd shift stocking and reset procedures, finding a city of people staying in after hours would piss you off.
Dude this was really well written, and I’m so glad he didn’t do that stereotypical “if people don’t have a system to follow, they’ll just become savage and turn on each other”. I don’t know, that’s just really nice to see, people are social creatures, it’s dumb to assume all of them act selfish without a system.
It probably helps that there was the external threat of the employees and potentially infinite resources. People are drawn to conflict, but that conflict doesn't have to be violence against eachother. Competition, for instance, is a good substitute, particularly with physical things. And having to forage for food and resorces during the day, and guard against employees at night gives more than enough stimulation to take care of our need to be challenged.
i mean..."social" does not mean friendly or kind or altruistic. obviously there could be exceptions, but i think most people have a small group of family and/or friends they will protect but would gladly screw anyone outside that group over, and iirc there have been actual studies that support this somewhat. at the end of the day we DO put ourselves first, for the most part. that's just the nature of living things. doesn't mean a Purge scenario will inevitably happen lol, but still
So... If you can’t get to SCP-3008-1 through any other entrance than the main door, than the real SCP-3008 should just be the front doors. The rest of the building is just a regular IKEA.

Holy shit yeah. Goal is to try and escape I guess? It'll take a long time and you'll never know when you'll get out so you gotta find food and shelter while you're in there.
I would add a mechcanic that if you build a base, the hordes get incrementally bigger, so you have to abbandond you base after a while, but you need your base to make higher teir gear, so its a risk reward system.
There's a game about this scp in the works, its very very very very early in development, but its playable. You can build using the stuff around the ikea and you get attacked by the staff at night. There's a hunger mechanic and you have to search for food but that's about it.
Not every SCP is in an of itself scary. It's about paranormal things. Objects that go against what we believe is natural and that defy our perception of reality. Be that a giant monstrous lizard that can't be destroyed, or a living pile of goop that just wants to tickle people.
My knowledge of SCP is limited to these random vids that pop up in my recommended. I thought this was going to be stupid so I put it on as background noise while I worked. About 5 minutes in I stopped working and listened intently to this madness. How can it be so hilarious and terrifying?

a few days ago i went to an IKEA for the first time in my life and i now have understood how someone decided he wanted to make SCP-3008 because of how fucking hard it is to get out of an IKEA.
Who else wants this SCP as a videogame mulitplayer? - everyone plays as D-Boys, similar to Secret Laboratory, but no MTF squads or Chaos coming to save/kill you, only the Monsters inside the Ikea Store trying to kill you. (Having different monsters to try and kill you [SCP-3008-2] and more fan made ones [Furniture trying to kill you or other SCP's like [SCP-983]]). Only allowing voice communication within the game, adding a more frightening experience when you find yourself alone from your friends. [Also the civilisations will be found inside and interact-able. Moreover you can from an "alliance" with the other civilians trapped inside SCP-3008-1 by gaining their trust and the civilisations can aid you with resources and weapons in order to fight the monsters when the trust has reached a substantial amount]. What do you think about this game concept? Hopefully a very well respected game developer reads this and is able to adapt upon this idea to create the SCP-3008 game. :)
Make it like a Rust Environment, and it’s to fight with enemy players and 3008-2 instances, while as a civilization, choosing to team up will result to have teams. Dying will result in item losses and respawn to your spawn point (if made Done) or the spawn

One detail I absolutely love. The survivors never turned on each other, as noted in the journal. It would have been so damn easy to make it The Walking Staff, where every single group must constantly self-destruct, melt-down, and war with all other groups at all times. It's an assumption that human beings will simply eat each other during a big disaster, especially people from a modern society. I remember times when this idea hurt real people, like when official efforts focused more at first on 'stopping looting', even minimal looting, in New Orleans, versus simply search and rescue and recovery operations. I fell in love with this SCP because of this video for many reasons, and that's one. Gripping adventure log narratives may be my favorite style of entry.
Always loved this one. It's a very well done story, one the I think would make a fairly interesting Open World Survival Game. It has all the trappings of a good setup for such a game - scavenging goods among the shelving, building a fort, a hostile (non-zombie) type enemy. Seems like a good idea to me.

Theory: The staff will only attack those who use or reposition anything. When the journal author slept in the undisturbed beds, nada. But Exchange? Received nightly attacks. Even before that bit of sabotage where someone snuck part of a staff's corpse inside the walls. I think it may be because they made the walls and build houses, repositioned the lights, etc. Like teenagers getting kicked out of a store after building pillow forts or something.

@@CodeRed99911 honestly as a member of retail, this may be because many reset procedures involving changing displays and such in a place like this may happen during 3rd shift. Same as when they restock the concessions during the night to be looted during the day. So if you were a retail employee trying to do your mundane 3rd shift stocking and reset procedures, finding a city of people staying in after hours would piss you off.
But what about when he's running to Exchange and is attacked? Was it just because he was in the vicinity?

Dude this was really well written, and I’m so glad he didn’t do that stereotypical “if people don’t have a system to follow, they’ll just become savage and turn on each other”. I don’t know, that’s just really nice to see, people are social creatures, it’s dumb to assume all of them act selfish without a system.
same, the isolation and the staff are good enough antagonists, no need to shove in some assholes like all movies of the type do
It probably helps that there was the external threat of the employees and potentially infinite resources.
People are drawn to conflict, but that conflict doesn't have to be violence against eachother. Competition, for instance, is a good substitute, particularly with physical things.
And having to forage for food and resorces during the day, and guard against employees at night gives more than enough stimulation to take care of our need to be challenged.
They did attack other "towns" though with the staff parts being smuggled in to make them attack
i mean..."social" does not mean friendly or kind or altruistic. obviously there could be exceptions, but i think most people have a small group of family and/or friends they will protect but would gladly screw anyone outside that group over, and iirc there have been actual studies that support this somewhat. at the end of the day we DO put ourselves first, for the most part. that's just the nature of living things. doesn't mean a Purge scenario will inevitably happen lol, but still

I would add a mechcanic that if you build a base, the hordes get incrementally bigger, so you have to abbandond you base after a while, but you need your base to make higher teir gear, so its a risk reward system.
There's a game about this scp in the works, its very very very very early in development, but its playable. You can build using the stuff around the ikea and you get attacked by the staff at night. There's a hunger mechanic and you have to search for food but that's about it.

Who else wants this SCP as a videogame mulitplayer? - everyone plays as D-Boys, similar to Secret Laboratory, but no MTF squads or Chaos coming to save/kill you, only the Monsters inside the Ikea Store trying to kill you. (Having different monsters to try and kill you [SCP-3008-2] and more fan made ones [Furniture trying to kill you or other SCP's like [SCP-983]]). Only allowing voice communication within the game, adding a more frightening experience when you find yourself alone from your friends. [Also the civilisations will be found inside and interact-able. Moreover you can from an "alliance" with the other civilians trapped inside SCP-3008-1 by gaining their trust and the civilisations can aid you with resources and weapons in order to fight the monsters when the trust has reached a substantial amount].
What do you think about this game concept? Hopefully a very well respected game developer reads this and is able to adapt upon this idea to create the SCP-3008 game. :)

One detail I absolutely love. The survivors never turned on each other, as noted in the journal. It would have been so damn easy to make it The Walking Staff, where every single group must constantly self-destruct, melt-down, and war with all other groups at all times. It's an assumption that human beings will simply eat each other during a big disaster, especially people from a modern society.
I remember times when this idea hurt real people, like when official efforts focused more at first on 'stopping looting', even minimal looting, in New Orleans, versus simply search and rescue and recovery operations.
I fell in love with this SCP because of this video for many reasons, and that's one. Gripping adventure log narratives may be my favorite style of entry.
Always loved this one. It's a very well done story, one the I think would make a fairly interesting Open World Survival Game. It has all the trappings of a good setup for such a game - scavenging goods among the shelving, building a fort, a hostile (non-zombie) type enemy. Seems like a good idea to me.
