If you ever talk about an SCP that messes up the universes and jumps from one universe to another parallel one or something, you should render the image you're using here again (or photoshop it) and change "MILLAR" on the tag, with "MILLER", as well as pronounce your name that way. It'll be a fun little easter egg.
as someone who finds scp more of a guilty pleasure to anyone who enjoyed this article, do read "At the Mountains of Madness" if you haven't. It is one of my favorite horror stories and one of Lovecraft's best, and while this is very inspired, Lovecraft's original short story is amazing. It is much less about "spooky monsters in the antarctic" and more about scientists being some of the best depictions of scientists in fiction spending several hours doing meticulous scientific analysis about something incredibly terrifying. The "monsters" in said piece really only appear twice, aren't even what makes the story terrifying, and it's great.
I think SCP “Thalassomania” is a closer comparison to Mountains of Madness (& even Call of Cthulhu). The Exploring Series summarized that article very well.
Enjoying something doesn't mean you can't criticize or recognize the quality of a work. And while I like a lot of what the scp foundation stands for, both as a passion project and an avenue for amateur writing, it is an incredibly flawed piece of media. But that is why it is a guilty pleasure for "me". Because I still find inherent entertainment value and inspiration from the scp foundation, but I would not say it is wholely good either. And finally, the reason why in specific I mention this as a guilty pleasure is that this particular article has been compared heavily to "At The Mountains of Madness". And I provide my recommendation because as best as the author of this scp article did to try and make an analog to Lovecrafts short story, people should read the original work since it is to me is a better written work of media. And this piece loses details from the original that do not keep it to the same level of quality in writing. Edit: the important thing here is that it is a guilty pleasure to "me". I have felt I have experienced better works of fiction since discovering the scp foundation, and that is my experience. If that is not the case for you, then that is fine. Not everyone sees the same things as a guilty pleasure

This story evokes strong memories of reading The Terror and The Mountains of Madness, both very clear inspirations. The voice acting was great! Very engaging, great work with this one.
Wow just got all the way through this one and it is awesome. This might be my absolute favorite SCP file up to this point. Fantastic voice acting. High level, take note the Volgun is top notch.
This SCP is actually connected to the GOI "The Church of the Second Hytoth", which is the Earth branch of a universal extraterrestrial religion called "Ortothanism", which centered around 7 former mortals-turned-gods who stand guard at the edge of our reality against beings that come from outside it seeking to destroy it. They slowly died out and there is only one god left, and because the ritual that turned them into gods was incomplete they still bleed. So, their worshippers willingly give their own blood as part of a thaumaturgic ritual in order to transmit to them and revitalize them to continue the fight. This is what the aliens meant when they said "Protect existence" and one of the others talking about "everyone should give their blood". These weren't villianous invaders with malevolent plans, these were religious travelers who must've accidentally crashed on Earth in the Antarctic, and were trying to terraform the area in order for them to live. Sadly, fear and miscommunication led to their deaths.
Really? It felt like the aliens were just gonna destroy earth for humans then forcibly integrate them into their own species they didn’t even let the humans know they were there if it wasn’t for Barnard then we would all be like Richard
@@hotman8218 Well, it's all centered around severe levels of miscommunication. I mean, these are literal aliens we're talking about. They weren't trying to take over Earth, only terraform the patch of the Antarctic they were at in order to survive on a world that wasn't theirs.
Darn it, i skipped a few years of the SCP lore and now i am appalled by the complexity, high level of professionality and existential horror that is given to every SPC.
Now this one was very interesting. What really scared the hell out of me was the unknown within the catacombs of the Antarctic caves. It’s terrifying… And who knows what else they would be able to find.
Many people I know want to take vacation on a cruise to Antarctica. Wouldn't be surprised if the foundation sponsored some trips for their experiments.
this SCP appears to have been inspired by the allegedly encounter by US Naval admiral Evelyn Bird's encounter of what appeared to be the legendary hallow earth a habitable world that supposedly resides in the Earth according to legend.
Sooo to start things off, I was waiting to listen to this till I could sit and get an uninterrupted train of thought. I love your longer videos, they always afford me a chance to do deeper thinking and get myself organized mentally. This video was an odd choice of topic since as of recently I have been learning more about Antarctica and some of the stuff that happens there. Mostly because of some science courses I had to take for graduation. This is a crazy place, made even crazier based on the fact that underwater videos have been coming forward more often. Antarctica has some pretty interesting secrets it hasn't revealed just yet. With that in mind I was in for the long run on the video, it was a journey through some seriously weird flavored ice tones, and just - I dunno for some reason I keep thinking "soylent green is people" sort of vibes. The strangeness of the collapse, so quickly followed by a slowly degrading explorer was something that drew me in as the journey only seemed to worsen. I am not even sure what to make of the spire at the end, I just know that I don't want anything to do with that chunk of land. Thanks for the long listen, I really enjoy these narrations as they give me a chance to relax into the story and get a good amount of work done. Keep up the great work :3
I just realized Volgun is at 3/4 million subs. When did that happen? Holy crap my dood! Can't wait to see you hit 1 million!! You GOTTA do a special when you get there. ^_^
I love that you’re uploading videos faster than I can consume them, I can binge watch SCP for the first time since I found your channel when the first COVID lockdowns happen
A lot of this, with the implications of gods and greater purposes, really leaves a lot to develop. The thought that the SCP may be trying to protect the existence of itself and the universe from a far more powerful anomaly or being. My hope always with these SCP forms is that the authors return to them and continue the stories, either through updates to the files or with tales. Maybe someday the existence SCP 4431-A will be fully known, or a Dominance Shift/End-of-the-world scenario could be theorized. That maybe the actions of Bannard and his crew would invoke the wrath of a god, or that the spread of 4431-D and the creatures associated with it could take over the world. It’s all really just an interesting SCP overall and very well thought out.
Bro honestly this is a close to perfect match to the elder things of H.P. Lovecrafts Cthulhu Mythos and I was very impressed with this. Glad to see real terror and wanting to contain something that aint a chair or statue, but of things that far exceed human understanding and bring a primordial terror in the face of the unknown. Good shit dude!

Been falling off SCP recently but, I always find interest again when I listen to Volgun's picks. Recently I've been hearing audiobooks of SCP's and Tales that say stuff like: "On the eve of that dark night... 4 horsemen rode... Butterflies... Whispering on the cold wind of Tata'ma'ha-" You guys know the ones. They say nothing but act like they're deep. Yeah, cool story man, can I get any characters or world building? No? Just gonna try to impress me with your made up, shallow as a puddle, word salad? Not interested... This SCP *DOES NOT* do this though, I am happy to say~.
My man I love your stuff. Just listening to it while driving to work brings me great pleasure. Also to see the faces of people who hear it coming out my car is hilarious
Great lovecraftian story, well done whomever wrote this and nice delivery volgun, as always. My headcanon on this one is: these are either aliens or old ones that have found a large part of mechains body and have founded their own church of the broken god. Edit: after listening to the rest... Maybe not...
This could be a script for a reboot At the Mountains of Madness if the movie had ever come out, the Foundation research would be a framing device for basically a flashback of the initial expedition, and then at the end you'd see foreshadowing of a sequel with "a new discovery" in the present, and then because it's a Foundationverse setup movie, you'd get only glimpses of the actual SCP name or symbol and then a post credit sequence of like an O5 meeting on a different anomaly but you only see shadowy figures on computers and one real person.
I honestly wonder what it would be like to live inside of the SCP universe but with the knowledge we have of SCPS and the events they will potentially cause how to stop most of them and how high you could climb the ranks, I doubt I would last very long with my luck though lol
I love those scp with entire universes built around them rather than the more typical "ooh overpowered creature scary" stuff like 354, 1762, 093 etc...
Fantastic storytelling, truly thrilling stuff. Bravo! Thanks a million for all the efforts that go into creating these highly entertaining audible adventures.
So I was just listening to this on the side while working, I have to say Bannard's entries are bonechilling, pun intended. The author did a fantastic job of portraying his gradual fall to insanity while still being cohesive and descriptive.

Woah. Did someone say pestilence?
@@MrKnowsItAllNot 049, please see the security team for escort back to your containment area, you are breaching your controlled use of site amenities.
@@Frightful_Lag0 It's ok, Dr. Bright is doing some sort of test, I believe he said something about "proving Kondraki wrong", I would run if I were you, I already took a vacation day.
I believe they even mention Miskatonic University in one of the their SCP files.
If you ever talk about an SCP that messes up the universes and jumps from one universe to another parallel one or something, you should render the image you're using here again (or photoshop it) and change "MILLAR" on the tag, with "MILLER", as well as pronounce your name that way. It'll be a fun little easter egg.
as someone who finds scp more of a guilty pleasure
to anyone who enjoyed this article, do read "At the Mountains of Madness" if you haven't.
Why "guilty"? There's nothing wrong with enjoying the SCP universe
@@MCCanaryVideos "Guilt" just seems a strong word to use unless you're some kind of hipster snob, like as if your chums Tarquin and Bartholomew at the Literary Club would tut and lower thier leather-bound copies of Dostoyevsky to look askance at you for polluting your rarified senses with the writings of hoi-polloi. Lol
Mind you, they would also view me with disdain given the amount of effort it took to correctly spell "Dostoyevsky" lol
I appreciate how the visual content is mostly kept out of the left part of the bottom row of the screen, with (in this case) just an unchanging keyboard, making room for the captions to not cover up the visuals.
The zepplin-like slugs kinda reminds me of the giant bugs that were also described as being like zeppelins in the Document Found in the Mariana Trench story
Those are overlords from Starcraft 100%
This story evokes strong memories of reading The Terror and The Mountains of Madness, both very clear inspirations. The voice acting was great! Very engaging, great work with this one.
Glad I'm not the only one. I was doing a mental double take cause I was sure this was hp Lovecraft
Shark punching center
The sentient space satelite that thinks its trans and is obsessed with homestuck. Yea.....real scary
Spooky corporeality protocols indeed can be difficult to write.
Now this one was very interesting. What really scared the hell out of me was the unknown within the catacombs of the Antarctic caves. It’s terrifying… And who knows what else they would be able to find.
Or, what are they HIDING!?
@@pjcouture5203 you make a valid case. Lol
Many people I know want to take vacation on a cruise to Antarctica. Wouldn't be surprised if the foundation sponsored some trips for their experiments.
The connections between these creatures and the events of Daleport blew my mind when I started digging into this
this SCP appears to have been inspired by the allegedly encounter by US Naval admiral Evelyn Bird's encounter of what appeared to be the legendary hallow earth a habitable world that supposedly resides in the Earth according to legend.
“Demons are far to human for what these are”
What a great fucking line
Keep up the great work :3
This genuinely may be your best vid so far, really had my skin crawling
I just realized Volgun is at 3/4 million subs. When did that happen? Holy crap my dood! Can't wait to see you hit 1 million!! You GOTTA do a special when you get there. ^_^
I needed this today, thanks Volgun
They're good for "background noise", when you're trying to create new content.
Awesome as ever. I really like these longer-form videos that use the addendums to pad them out to a ‘tales’ type format ❤️😎❤️
For a second I thought the C instances resembled that “Old Castaway” from Series 1. It’d be terrifying if they were actually related in some way.
I love that you’re uploading videos faster than I can consume them, I can binge watch SCP for the first time since I found your channel when the first COVID lockdowns happen
around the 25:00 there’s a page turn sound and it’s very well balanced and punctuated the vocals perfectly.
Antarctic horror is my favourite. This is so good, incredible job! Props to you and the author. Phenomenal.
Love how he never dips out of character it’s amazing 😁
Oooo, that journal page flip is a subtle touch, but a beautiful one.
Two parts Mountains of Madness, one part The Thing, and a few dashes of Church of the Second Hytoth, shaken over Antarctic ice. Nice cocktail.
These things take "Make yourself at home" a little too literally.
On September 20, 2019, the date of the massive seismic activity, a massive climate change demonstration was occurring globally that included 4 million participants. Not sure about an environmental connection here, but it's possible.
"Eco-communists demonstrations..."

Yeah no, proper scientific personnel would be all over it if IT was of any importance
Possible Neo-Sarkic cult
I love this. An occurrence being similiar to one of these stories 😍😍
>promise humanity they are there for their good
>make vague as hell statements alluding to this and refuse to elaborate
>attack humanity and wind up getting defeated by it
why are villains like this
Been falling off SCP recently but, I always find interest again when I listen to Volgun's picks.
This SCP *DOES NOT* do this though, I am happy to say~.
im very off on on, catch up to the amazing youtubers I watch for these, then dont watc any for a few months
@@d4s0n282 oof, I understand.
No bullshit, only lovecraftian nightmares.
Keep up the good work fella and stay safe!
Like an amalgamation of Lovecraft "At the Mountains of Madness" and the movie "Annihilation". Great SCP thanks for another awesome video, Volgun!
This is a madness fusion of two of my favorite franchises. Great work Doctor.
Which two?
@@NodDisciple1 likely SCP and HP Lovecraft
My man I love your stuff. Just listening to it while driving to work brings me great pleasure. Also to see the faces of people who hear it coming out my car is hilarious
babe wake up new TheVolgun video dropped
Great lovecraftian story, well done whomever wrote this and nice delivery volgun, as always. My headcanon on this one is: these are either aliens or old ones that have found a large part of mechains body and have founded their own church of the broken god. Edit: after listening to the rest... Maybe not...
This is actually related to the Church of the Second Hytoth.
Remids me of a mix between "the thing" and "annihilation". good work BTW, Volgun.
Always a joy to see this nice big, long ones. (That's what she said)
Great work.
I just read at the mountains of madness yesterday , this article described elder things that formerly inhabited the antarctic.
Church of the 2nd Hytoth is probably one of my favorite SCP organizations and series, always glad to see it given some love
How is this related?
The 7 gods that require blood are the gods of the 2nd hytoth. Also they exist to protect the universe.
Great video! I love the visuals, and the models. Great work, as always :)
Imagine throwing a slug at something to very, very little effect, only for its mom to come beat the thing you threw it at up.
I really really enjoy the long form videos, find really easy to immersed in the universe. Well done!!!
Honey wake up, the Volgun uploaded.
the model pryamid in the thumbnail reminds me of what a virus structure looks like in my schools old biology textbooks
40:02 “We looked back to see a white inferno, creating the illusion of a sunny day”
Wow
Great foley work! Top notch as always.
TRUE FACT; *“YOU NEVER FAIL TO ENTERTAIN US”* Keep It UP. 👍
Ah yes!
Alternative Universe Elder Things!
LOVE IT~🎶
I love the references to Lovecraft in modern media. This is just another great implementation.
Whenever you pronounce the letter "T" you absolutely put your whole soul into it for no reason
You've finally done my favorite SCP. This is a good day.
Another banger from the Volgun. Thank you for your service Dr. Miller!
I know that it’s saying “boaring probe”, but I still can’t help but automatically interpret it as “boring probe”.
It's actually spelled the same way, too
Fantastic storytelling, truly thrilling stuff. Bravo! Thanks a million for all the efforts that go into creating these highly entertaining audible adventures.
That was a particularly good one - well done!
So I was just listening to this on the side while working, I have to say Bannard's entries are bonechilling, pun intended. The author did a fantastic job of portraying his gradual fall to insanity while still being cohesive and descriptive.
0:49 and three interesting probes
The best thing you can hear
"Good afternoon everyone..."
Yay! Thank Volgy. A long one to sink teeth into that I haven't known about. Say, the scientist voice you use in the logs sound familiar.. it reminds me of a game called "Happy Humbles Burger Farm". Likely just a coincidence, though. Now, time to grab some popcorn and sit alone in the dark as I watch this.
So close to 1 mil baby, keep it up
Sweet video, I can't get enough of your channel
I wonder if these guys know the Old Castaway 🤔. Great model The Volgun really top notch
Thank you for the video friend!
finally a classic sounding old style miller story
too many borderline joke scp lately that are actual scp's nowadays
I can totally see the Lovecraft inspiration and im all here for it. It has the same vibes as At the Mountains of Madness.
hell yes, a motherfucking natvoltaic article being narrated by thevolgun. it's a dream come true
Ah, just read the wiki. Looks really good. Definitely worth getting into.
Between this and 4246, Antarctica seems a bit cramped for underground anomalies xD
19:35 It seems to me then that the creatures are just curious or something about humans.
Very cool. Really enjoyed this one 👍👏👏👏
My big brain moment of the day where I hear "one boring probe" and for a moment contemplate what exactly the criteria are to make a probe boring and disinteresting by foundation standards.
Further example of how the Elder Things really want to help humanity
Love these long story like ones, like the infinite ikea!
