The Real Reason DWIGHT YOAKAM Quit Music

- For years, Dwight was your favorite country singer’s favorite country singer. While his peers were making sugary ballads and pop crossovers, Dwight was taking the genre back to its roots.
In 1987, he showed up unannounced at Buck Owens’ office and convinced him to do a record.
Buck hadn’t had a hit in years- but “The Streets of Bakersfield” was a smash. And then, seemingly out of nowhere, he disappeared from music, simply nowhere to be found.
In 2006, he briefly emerged from the shadows to perform at Buck Owens’ funeral. He seemed like an entirely different man.
The Real Reason DWIGHT YOKAM Quit Music - Розваги
You say he took on the country music establishment and failed let’s see 25,000,000+ album sold, 14 top 10 hits and a successful acting career. If That’s what you call a failure, I would love to be one.
Bingo 🎯
Yup. He's one of a kind. My Dad loved him and I was listening to him forever.
I still listen. My bands still play his music.
Tell 'em son!!❤
People will say anything just to get clicks and views
He’s a real country singer, unlike the performers nowadays.
Ive been hearing that since Hank Williams died. Bear in mind, that was before George Jones had his first hit.
New stuff, pop country, hickhop and all of it is trash
@@maggienorris7833Rest in Eternal Peace HANK WILLIAMS SR. And GEORGE JONES
@@jodyvance4114 Oh, Jody Vance! You're too young to feel that damn old.
I love Dwight Yoakum and his music. His voice is great and his songs are good. He will always be a Great Artist ❤
He still performs live shows...I went to one of his concerts 5 years ago..and he's about to begin his 2024 tour. Love Dwight..and he's far from the failure you tried to portray him as.
Thanks for letting us know. I was so upset when I heard he died. Turns out the UA-cam video saying he passed is still online. I have reported as fake. ua-cam.com/video/WEMvAGtglZg/v-deo.htmlsi=BM-JQT2BNhmUOH4w
Thank YOU!!! I love Dwight !!!
SOOO going to see him this year!!!
Is he still married and has a child
I met him at a concert in 2014. He put on the best show I’ve ever been to!
Umm … disappeared? 😅He’s ONLY been on tour for the past three years…
A lot of country music stars could only dream of being as good as Dwight
I'm a real country fan and the only reason I learned about him was through his cover of Hortons Honky Tonk Man.
He didn't sell his soul to the devil like so many singers do. Good for him!!!
And he didn't quit- just saw him not too long back...
I would never call Dwight Yoakum a failure. I was just 7 or 8 singing along with my Dad to his music. Still love his music to this day & still think he deserves recognition. I also think he is a good actor.
@@ellzietwinkle1089 I agree with you, great singer just as good of an acto.
Exactly true… I think he actually has a brain and he uses it…
Sold his soul to the devil? 😂 OMG honey do you really believe people can do that? 😂😂😂
I would never associate failure with Dwight Yokum.

@@Chickenapproval it is it's not it.🤣 Smartie britches.
@@rondayoung4350 ???
It says "Dwight Yoakam" on the Spotify page, UA-cam channel, Facebook page, etc.
@@Chickenapproval what?
My uncle once offered him a job, not knowing who he was. He owned an asbestos removal company and flew all over to oversee the various projects. He would often need to hire workers. He was in the restaurant/bar of the hotel he was staying in in New Orlando once, and kept seeing this “country-looking fella” that could’ve used some new clothes and new boots.
DY handled it extremely well and sincerely thanked my uncle for the offer. They chatted for a few minutes and DY left.
The waitress came over all excited and said “don’t you know who that was?? That was Dwight Yoakum!” So he called home and asked my aunt, a country music fan, if she’d ever heard of him. Bahaha! It took him a while to live that one down! But he said he was a gentleman and very down to earth, and never let on that he was famous or above any job. That was kind of nice to know. 😊
I enjoyed reading what you shared here..about your uncle offering him a job, and how DY was polite, never letting your uncle know who he was or letting on that he was famous. Such a cool story and what a memory for him and your uncle!
I’m a huge Dwight Yokam fan and I feel it is a badge of honor not to in the country music hall of fame especially the way country music is NOT country anymore!
I’m proud he stayed true to himself!
That’s how I think of the R&R Hall of fame. Both halls are pathetic in my opinion. I live in Cleveland and refuse to support that disgraceful institution.
All the music hall of fames are a big freaking joke now. It’s all political and not about the talent like it used to be.
Dwight never had a bad song! You can listen to his albums from beginning to end over and over.
I agree - I have a 5 disc set of his hits and I listen to it over and over - the musicianship and vocals soar
never a bad role either... i've grown up listening to his music, with the same attitude toward nashville, born and raised 20 miles from it. and watching his acting career with as much enthusiasm, if i saw dwight in the trailer, i was gonna watchi it. he's just too cool for nashville or hollywood.
Totally agree. I got on to him at the very beginning and have every record. He certainly didn't "lose."
His Singing and Acting were Amazing ...😊😊😊😊
I listen on Spotify, and, yes! His music is great. I'm a truck driver. I listen for hours sometimes.
Great singer songwriter, great actor, He is ten times better than half of any of the new country artist today on the radio.

somehow u gotta convince yourself to like country music as it is, wts on radio,
Modern country in not the only new music that stinks.
You got that right he is great 😊❤❤
Country music isn't country music any more. I hate it. I like the old timers and Dwight.
I met Dwight just after his SlingBlade part at a local Hollywood hole in the wall bar. I mentioned to a pal that I really liked him in Sling blade. He stopped by my table to say hello. A thrill for me. A real gent and a nice guy. He even gave me a little kiss on the cheek when he left. A fave memory of my years in Hollywood. I hope he makes a big come back.
God bless him for having a family, career, and his own way, not a sell out!
I still listen to Dwight like I did 30 years ago and I’m not through ! He’s a classic !!
ME TOO
I have liked Dwight Yoakam and his singing for years. I don't think he ever failed at anything, He seems happy now and I'm happy for him.
He’s a great actor too. I listen to his albums STILL.
So do I. I am a musician and Dwight Yokum is a big influence on my style of guitar playing/song writing. I have been with him since day one. I was pleased to view this footage. "She wore red dresses".
LOVE me some D wight. Always . Home for sale ... Help me through my second divorce.. kept me out of jail ..
I will be forever in his debt.....
I love Dwight’s music, always have, always will!
I resent your seeming lack of respect for Dwight. He is an original talent with integrity. I'm thrilled with the happiness he’s found. I'd love to still see him preform, but he’s entitled to a rich life.
You want him to preform? Huh? What is that?
I love Dwight Yoakum..his music and voice make my heart feel good. May God bless him always
Dwight Yokum is genuine and true to himself and his fans. Loved by true country fans and will always be respected as a real man.
Sorry excuse for a channel
Yeah gotta love that original, "authentic" Ohio accent........ y'all.

Dwight didn’t just cut a successful record with Buck Owen’s in 1987 and then dropped off the map. Dwight is a legend and has had a career most could only dream about. The music he made in the 80s and 90s still holds up….one of the best of all time….

Amen absolutely 💯 correct
YES I don't know where hegot this crap from. Dwight is the best of the best. His style of writing is the best ever. The only country singer I like as well.
Love you Dwight stay true to your self and your fans No one doe's that anymore
Can't believe this AI nonsense has 100k subs. Horrible attention to detail.
I have always like Dwight Yoakum. Just saw him in a series under the dome on Paramount+. I was shocked but knew him right away. Good for him for being his own man and not giving in to the elites.
Dwight Yoakam has the best voice in the history of country music that’s right in the history of country music what he can do with his voice is absolutely incredible. I saw him at a really small venue in Aspen one time and stood 10 feet away for two hours it was the best thing that I ever saw in life his song she wore red dresses is one of the top country songs of all time the lyrics are absolutely stunning cut down to the bone pure and meaningful that song is incredible.
He sounds so authentic , old school ...not like the crap out now !!
I wouldn't put failure and Dwight Yoakam in the same sentence. The man is a living legend. Hes a great singer, song writer and great actor as well. He can play a real mean bad guy very well and convincingly too. The man is talented. He deserves way more credit and respect.
I Agree 💯%
"Streets of Bakersfield" with back-up Tex-mex accordionist Flaco Jimenez was the best! grew up watchin Hee-Haw, loved Buck Owens and Roy Clark dueling on guitars, and he was perfect as the role of the beer swilling wife beater in Sling Blade.I too fix small engines and have a picture of "Carl" in my work shop! "Ain't got no gas in it"!!!!!
Huge Buck Owens fan, I love Dwight Yoakam, he is not a failure, awesome guitar player and singer, he is his own man, and yes, he never sold out.
He did not lose with the country music establishment!!!
He was AWESOME and One of the Best! He didn't have a bad record or song! Good for Dwight to stand up for his music, his style, and his fellow country music artists! ❤
You betcha baby
Right!!! Who is this bozo talking?? What an idiot
I loved his music!!

The guy is real, multi talented and not afraid of failure.Just love the respect, he showed for Buck Owens
Been a fan since the 80s my favorite album is second hand heart I've never met anyone who has even heard of it
1000 mikes from nowhere was one of his best tunes..just love it...He should be in the Hall of Fame......
I never was into country music until I heard Mr. Dwight Yoakam as well as Jason and the Scorchers and Katey Lang And The Reclines. I still Love Dwight Yoakam both as an actor and a musician. He helped to change the sound and face of Country Music !!
I have always admired him for sticking to his musical roots and giving the Nashville control machine the proverbial finger.

Dwight Yoakam is one of the greatest modern country acts ever. Period. His style his songwriting is par excellence
My favorite song... He sang Dixie as he died. I guess now that would be forbidden to be played on the radio.
At 75, I've loved and listened to Dwight for many years. Love this video and I'm so happy to hear he's finally got married to a good woman and has a little boy. God bless him and I hope to keeps rocking for many years to come!!!
Dwight graced my small town of Torrington CT. I already was a fan but listening to him live was the ultimate. His performance was stellar and I remember it to this day. I’m still a fan regardless of concert dates. This man has got nothing further to prove. Legend.
He put out some of the best music and still enjoying it. Thanks Dwight.
Never liked it but I got it. I admired it for what it was. He came up with a 'thing' & made it work. Thats a lot harder than it looks. So, I can respect the guy for that.
I have loved Dwight Yokum’s music from the first time I ever heard him sing! I said he would be the next Hank Williams and, in my opinion, he is. He sings TRUE country music, not the stuff they call country music today. I also think he is a good actor. I rarely watch movies, or television, but I did see him in a couple of movies and was impressed that he could act as well as sing. I am glad he found the love he was looking for and has a family that loves and appreciates him. This Arkansas Hillbilly is proud of him!🌷💐
Slow dn na !!!!
Put some space in there !!!

Sling Blade, one of the best Movies in my Memories for me and my Husband and Many More. And Yes, Happy he never sold out to Nashville, one of the Worst Places in the Country in 2024. Just a bunch of drunken bars and drunks.
Dwight Yoakam is awesome a lot of great memories listening to his music 30 years ago and still listen to his music. He’s underrated and yes one of the best .
Love Dwight❤He was just here a month ago in Knoxville,Tn. At the Tennessee Theater. Long live Dwight Yoakum!!!
I am a big fan of Dwight. I feel he was under appreciated and yet a true talent. I feel shame for Nashville and their treatment of a man who gives joy to so many in this world. I am so sorry he has not received the recognition so deserved.
Legend
Like the rest of the music industry, Nashville is run by corporate gangsters.
They don't beat a true loyal loving fan base. May his star rise.
It took decades for Nashville to accept Hank Williams jr. Even Waylon said "Nashville only cares about you after you die". Now they do Waylon Jennings tribute shows every year. They always praise Hank Sr. while they ignored his son for decades. Dwight ditched Nashville to go to LA and started his music career there.
I said underappreciated by Nashville, not by his fans.@@Dartgame340
Dwight never failed.he is a wonderful songwriter and singer.
He is a very successful artist.
He got into a tight spot and will recover.
His beautiful wife has just had a baby and things are looking great for him.
More power to Dwight.x
Dwight Yoakem is one of my favorite country stars, saw him live in 2018 at white river theater canyon lake Texas. His music got me through a lot long times while serving in the Navy and going out on deployments. He took on Nashville now I love him even more
A great guy with a special voice! Always liked his music and his true nature.
Good for Dwight, for his authentic values, and true grit.
Surprised but very pleased
He is not a failure not at all, he is multitalented and very intelligent...I love his music!!!!❤❤❤❤

1000 miles from nowhere is on the list of my favorite songs of his. I was homeless for about a year. Things are better now. When things were not, this song would come to mind. It helped cheer me in some metaphysical way I can't explain. Peace and Love, everyone. 😊🙏
Yes love that song....now I think he went to college for theater. So that's is one of his loves too... I'm happy he's still singing and acting and family.
No the video..on that train..those skin tight leather pants.OMGoodness...😅
Glad to hear you are in a better place with your life. Keep on keeping on don't give up. Ask God to guide you He will.

I have seen Dwight two times in concert. Love his music! He actually sings Country music unlike so many these days. He has an extremely successful career.
Dwight didn't lose. Who comes up with this crap?
ur right TIM.....sifting bullshit on you tube is becoming a fulltime occupation lol
NO DOUBT
Dwight has always been his own man and always had a vision. Never sold out. He’s got more integrity than Nashville has phonies.
Dwight Yoakam was in my favorite movie of all time SLING BLADE, his performance was Oscar worthy, so was everyone in that movie from Billy Bob to Jon Ritter.
Agreed 100%

I love Dwight yoakam and he never quit music,I saw him live last year at Harrah's casino in Cherokee NC, he rocked that place and there were a surprisingly large number of younger people there,it was awesome

Dwight is the absolute SUCCESS STORY in every aspect of life. Everyone has bumps in the roads of life. He has done it all his way. Dwight is America's great neighbor. Dwight is and always will be a Legend 🎸
Thanks for this. I love Dwight. I'm sorry I missed him when he recently played here in Wisaconsin. And yes, I loved him in Sling Blade.
I worked security at one of his shows in the mid 80s. During soundcheck he called me out for my opinion on what sounded better (this? Played / or that? Played). Super nice guy. Just down to earth and a regular guy.
Streets of Bakersfield is my favorite song, especially his duo with Buck Owens, who I always loved.
One of my favorites too, Buck was very grateful to Dwight for one more moment in the sun,he was also very appreciative to his fans,he had cancelled his last show because he wasn't feeling well when he came upon a couple who traveled a long way to see him and decided the least he could do was go back in and perform ,he left the world sometime during the night afterwards. That's what real country is about.
1000 miles from nowhere , the man never had a bad album love them all . Truly one of the best!
Im from Bakersfield. I have always loved Dwight. Good music.
I loved his voice and his music! He's a legend and should be honored as one!
I love Dwight Yoakam!💗He has a wonderful voice.
Definitely not a failure. I don't even like country music but I love Dwight Yokam.. great musician and great actor as well
I always loved Dwight Yoakam's music. One of my fondest memories is listening to him singing with Buck Owens on the Streets of Bakersfield. My wife and I listened to that song so many times we wore out the CD. Even if he hadn't recorded another song, he would have been successful with that one record. But he didn't stop there, Dwight recorded so many great songs like Guitars and Cadillacs, Little Sister, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Long White Cadillac, I Sang Dixie, and many many more. Just like Buck Owens, he carved his own musical path and lived outside of Nashville. But where Buck decided to join up with Hee-Haw, which in turn boosted his career to stardom and made Buck Owens a household name, Dwight decided to follow the true rebel path. Dwight's music occupies a space in the minds of the people who love real country music. To his fans he deserves a place right along with some of its biggest legends like Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard.
I love, love, love, Dwight Yoakam❤❤❤❤❤ his hillbilly music and his acting…. Wish him the best for him and his family ❤❤❤❤❤
He's talented, with his own unique style. He's a damn fine actor that really interprets his character very convincingly. I would like to see more of him on screen. Because he was his own Man he has been ignored by the Country and Western community elites. He has proven himself to be very versatile, hardworking and persistent. All The Best To Dwight Yoakam. I wish him every success for the future. So glad for him he found Love.

"I Sang Dixie" is a favorite of mine, but love all his music!
I saw Dwight live a few months ago 2023. He is still strong good and worth the price of a ticket.
I saw a Dwight Yoakum, at the Delmar Fair, in the early 2000 years. I had travelled to San Diego by motorcycle, and was entertained by relatives to a day at the Del Mar fair. For an extra 5 bucks, I was fortunate to enjoy one of the best concerts of my life. Amazing, nothing held back. Total respect for Dwight ever since.
Thankful he didn’t sell his soul. My sister and I had front row tickets to his show in Louisville Kentucky about 25 years ago. We are and will always be big fans. He’s a rebel ❤
I LOVE Dwight Yokum's music, and have from the very first! Also, I loved him as a villain in "Slingblade"!!! Id like to see him do something else!! ❤❤❤ Dwight 👍👍👍
Interesting presentation - caught my attention immediately. I am a 70s rocker - Seger, Eagles, Foreigner, Springsteen - a wide variety. But for some reason in the last few years I have become a one-man Dwight Yoakam fan. I listen to his SXM Radio as much as I can and listen to his music a lot. He’s unique. I love his music! It’s a unique blend of different genres! I wish him great resurgence and success - I think he’s a highly overlooked and versatile talent. The real thing!
During that time he disappeared I saw him four times in concert and quite a few movies .
Yes he never disappeared.
My daughter won a radio contest by naming every Dwight Yoakum song by listening to snippets of each song. I'm talking like 2 seconds each! She won 4 tickets to his local concert. We saw him live and it was great! His music keeps a wholesome past alive.
HE's touring right now, so glad. His song from 1990, Turn It On Turn It Up Turn Me Loose is still one of my fave tuns in any genre.
Dwight Yokum is not only a great singer but he is also a great actor . He is also a true country singer that puts today's so-called country talent to shame ! !
he shopped in the store i work in in nashville he drove a pink cadillac
Dwight Yoakem was the real deal. He was fantastic and highly respected by artists of many genres.
I am a huge ,longtime fan. I think that he is Very Talented and should be in the Hall of FAME. I HOPE THAT HE IS HAPPY ❤

Thousand Miles from Nowhere, only song he ever had to release, all time favorite.
Dwight Yoakum has a superb voice which conveys great feeling. He is a legend, and has stayed true to his solid values, which a lot of artists don’t do. Have been an admirer of his since the beginning. God bless him and his family.

Great musician & many, many iconic songs & albums!!! Saw him at many concerts & he puts on a great show!! He so deserves to be recognized in the Music industry!
Absolutely one of my favorite artists. So many great songs.

Love my hillbilly music, and couldn’t be prouder of those strong people who helped settle our country.🇺🇸 Rockabilly rock on👍🏼
"would love to see him in concert" If you ever get the chance to go, if possible, do so. We went to see him many times, started going when we became aware of him in the 80's.
The last show we saw was on September 7, 2001. Out of all his shows we went to over the years, I thought it was one of the best; we had a great time. Of course little did any of us know what would come to be 4 days later, on 9/11.
My opinion to anyone wondering if they should spend their money to go see him, I think you'd be happy afterwards. We've never been disappointed!
I'm a huge Dwight fan , he showed up when Nashville country stars were all carbon copies created by executives . He's always played solid Country western with a great backup band .
He is one of my favorites country music artist.I want to hear more of his music.and also to see him in movies

Dwight Yoakum Is The Real Deal, His Talents Are Excellent & Happiness To His Marriage & Family, May It All Last In Happiness
