Your comment about not just being a mom but being first and foremost a follow of Christ blew my mind. I'm not a mom, I'm not even married, but a dream of mine is to be a mom, yet I feel I've already defined myself as a mother before being a follower of Christ in way. Yes I want to raise kids for the glory of God but but I feel I forgot that I need to train myself and enjoy my time with God as a single young lady. ❤❤❤❤ thank you, praise God and may He continue to bless you.
I'm so glad you brought up Mama Bear! I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Mama Bear was said a million times and almost no real information was given. As a woman who craves real theological information, your channel has been wonderful and I hope more women out there will dig into their Bibles and read into the Exegesis of the word.
I felt the same way!! It’s a DNF for me too. At the end of each chapter I was left feeling, “what was their actual suggestion for how to combat these lies?” I could never find their solution!!!
“I don’t even want to talk about the fact that I’m a Mom because I’m so much more than just a Mom. I’m a follower of Jesus Christ and that is my identity” 🫳🎤💥🙌🏼🤩
Yes! I am that anti mom group mom… not your sorority mom sister. No hate on those that are. I am like that even with tv shows, extremely slow to jump on the band wagon of trends. My skepticism and questioning has served me right so far.
Yes I so agree with you when Christian books are super popular they may be theologically tuned to the masses. Thank you for your reviews and your channel!
"The Gospel Comes with a House Key" by Rosaria Butterfield was one of the most convicting books I've read this year. Her first book Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert is also fantastic.
I ordered God of all things because of you. It is one of my favorite reads!!! It is gonna be one I come back to over and over for deeper study. I love your book reviews!!!
Love the reviews! Michael Card is/was most known for being a singer/songwriter in Christian circles back in the late 80s/90s in my "circle" as you called it. (As in, I probably would recognize the blurb authors ha!) Sometimes he does make things a bit more "light," as you mention - but I also think sometimes it's because it's his songwriting/creative/poetic side coming out in his writing. Love what you said about the mama bear title - totally agree. Added some great books to my list from your recs - thank you!
Mam Bear Apologetics, I liked the first chapter... For me it was very repetitive and world view focus VS practical ways to talk with your kids and combat the worldview.
Thank you for reading Mama Bear Apologetics and saving me the trouble. I have found way to many Christian books are for baby Christian’s, and not enough are for wanting to go deeper. Sounds like it’s a beginner Christian book.
I love your videos. I always learn something new from you Faith. Thank you for sharing your videos with your subscribers. We pray for you to be blessed. We love watching your videos.
I haven’t read a lot of the ones you reviewed but I felt the same about Mama Bear Apologetics. I ended up DNFing it too. Besides the part that I’m not a mama, I wanted to read it because I’m an auntie, but also, I was not vibing with it either. Right now I’m reading Misled by Allen Parr, which I know you’ve already reviewed. I love these videos! Thanks for doing it! -Hanna
Just finished reading “M is for Mama” by Abbie Halberstadt. Would love your take on it if you ever read it. I thought it was quite convicting but also gracious in its tone.
I highly recommend Jerry Bridges. The women’s ministry did a study of his book “Respectable Sins” amazing study of the “little” sins we do and tolerate. Other books of his that are: Trusting God, The Discipline of Grace, The Pursuit of Holiness, The Blessing of Humility, The Practice of Godliness, The Fruitful Life, and the list goes on. I truly believe every Christ Follower should read and have these books in their library.
Around the 12/13 minute mark where you are talking about your hesitations with Mama Bear Apologetics is 100% where I have been and how I have felt. I still haven't read it. So often the books that are marketed towards "Mama's" are too light for my taste. I will look at Voddie's book. That sounds like something that will really get my mind moving. Another mom in my church and I were talking about this very topic yesterday. Many Ladies Ministries groups leave us feeling flat. We prefer the Men's Ministry topics (which we can't attend), or mixed groups. Maybe we should consider approaching ladies' ministry more from the academic side for the ladies like us. We can't be the only ones that feel that way.
I finally gave up on women's ministries about a decade ago. They were ALWAYS shallow. Always. Mama Bear Apologetics and any other book directed toward women never make it onto my reading list. I don't even have to crack the cover to know that they will be a fluffy waste of time.
I also struggled with Mama Bear Apologetics. It made me feel guilty for not being a mom's mom. But now that you mention it, I probably felt that way because I see myself as more than just a mom and homemaker. I'm so glad you brought it up.
Love these videos! They've become the basis for my SecondSale reading lists. I'm so glad I didn't waste time and money on Mama Bear. You totally described my expectations of it. Kinda like you said, I've come to realize that if a book is recommended to me multiple times by moms in my circles, it is something pretty basic in depth that I can't get much from. I feel bad saying that, but it is just the truth.
Oh! You HAVE to read "Do You Think I'm beautiful?" It has given me soo much perspective and it is just so beautifully worded and even has made me cry sometimes with joy and love in my heart, it really makes you feel, understand, and learn if all❤
Yup! Feel you on books like Mama Bear. "If everyone likes it it can't be good" is sooo how I am too 😬 but I will definitely look into Voddie Baucham. I love him, RC Sproul, Greg Koukl's Reality was a favorite of mine. I'm glad you were honest about Mama Bear. My best friend might love a book like that. Sounds like it's right up her alley. But like you, totally doesn't sound like something I'd like.
I know you said you mostly like to read men, but hear me out… M is for Mama: A Rebellion Against Mediocre Motherhood is amazing. Abbie is such a great writer and it’s packed with scripture.
Thank you for the book reviews! I'm going to do a similar series of reviews but on the books I read during my church internship. I find your view on Mama Bear Apologetics refreshing. I'm not a mom so I find it hard to resonate with a lot of books written by women who are.
I am with you 100%, I find a lot of things written for women to be annoying and I just want to study the Bible and go deeper ... Especially bibles for women 🤮 gives me a stomach ache.
My babies (now 28 and 31) fell asleep to Michael Card's "Sleep Sound in Jesus" for several years. His music was Biblically sound... so I'm interested in reading this book. Didn't know he was an author. Thank you for your review!
You need to teach at a seminary! They’d be turning students away from your classes… you’d be the #1 choice of teachers! Your knowledge AND thirst for more is astounding. 🧐
That is so funny!! I say the same thing “if everybody likes it, might not be good” and I believe this goes into the way our faith is as well!! We won’t be liked by everybody, we won’t be accepted by the multitude.
I recommend the left behind series by Tim Lahayne. I also recommend Isaiahs great light by Kyle swanson (hes one of my pastors) non-denominational church.
im a catholic and mass is boring to me so now I read the bible and try to understand it. thank you for all you do for all of us that are struggiling to undersand the bible verses,.
Great in depth reviews. The one book where you talked about where you didn’t agree with what was said was spot on. The part about Abraham-if you believe what he said about Abraham thinking God was asking what all the other gods would ask-that takes out Abrahams trust in the Lord, which we need to have, total trust and then Gods provision. It bothers me when people change the total intent of the Bible in those ways because it seems to take away from the trust and mercy and love of God.
I am exactly the same way, the stuff geared towards Momma's annoys me. I just want to be taught. I don't need it geared towards being a mom and grandma. I want to be taught as a Christian and that is it. I enjoyed Alisa's book and have ordered and not read yet, Live your truth. I am looking forward to reading it. I am going to order Expository Apologetics by Voddie Bauchmann. I am looking forward to reading it.
I agree with you about Mama Bear. I was the same with M is for Mama. I DNF. It just wasn’t the book for me. And like you I prefer to read the men. Again, it’s just how I’m wired.
I've also read Another Gospel... love it and enjoy listening to her podcast. Had the same problem with Mama Bear Apologetics! It's like you read my mind. Good stuff but not for me... gave to a friend who it has really worked for and given good info. I'm reading Rosaria Butterfield's Five Lies of our Anti Christian Age and would so far highly recommend! Have you read Becket Cook's A Change of Affection? His testimony is amazing. When I'm finished with RB, I'm starting God of All Things as per your rec. Just ordered it through our local Christian bookstore... for MORE than $5!!!! 😉 I can't wait.
I don't know why I've had a hard time reading through Mama Bear Apologetics either but it is DNF right now. I like when other moms talk about their messes because it helps me not feel alone and give myself grace but if I'm right, I don't think she has children. That may be my problem if I'm right. It's like reading a book from a man telling me how to be a mom. He doesn't understand enough to write about it. Maybe I'll try one of the other apologetic books you liked.😊
Faith!! After a long day with the littles 😊 it kind of made my night last night to see you read Inexpressible! 🎉 I am not currently a Patreon, 😢 but would love to be someday. I have sent you an email on how awesome the Bible dictionary is! Thank you! Currently doing a 12-wk study on Romans 8 through Ligonier at my church and just don't have the bandwidth, but hope to in the future! Also, after watching your videos enough I have begun to COMPLETELY rethink how I journal. I memory keep, take commentary notes, life journaling ALL OF IT in one journal (since 2019) and candidly just don't go back enough through it regularly to have those notes "serve me" in the future. Unless they're organized canonically I'll just not return to them, so I've been thinking for the last 2 weeks which bible I want to "commit" to and start adding notes!! And the fact you put book quotes IN your bible?! Mindblown 🤯 as an aside, I heavily looked in to Covenant College when I thought I wanted to do premed. I wanted a small liberal arts college before med school. It's a long story why I switched to business and ended up going to the Univ of Iowa, but needless to say the fact you went to Covenant is like really?! You are a couple years younger than me so don't know if we would have crossed paths, but still, how cool is that!! I've never even heard of anyone else who knew what Covenant was. My mom visited there with friends in 1999 and fell in love with the area and planted the seed in me about that place. They actually moved to Tennessee for 10 years because of their love for that area. To study the Bible for 4 years in depth...ah! Would have loved to. 😊 thanks for sharing your insights!!!!
Oh and another I hit a lot out of was Finding Holy in the Suburbs. The authors tone sorta feared on me but subbing my small conservative city with suburb I finally understood a lot of things about racism, city problems, isolation…
I am going to order the Vodie B. book, as well as the Michael Card volume. I’ve met Vodie B. through YT and enjoyed Michael Card for many, many years. Please, delve into his music; it is so very good! Thank you for the video and the recommendations. p.s. I thought Another Gospel was enlightening. I have Live Your Truth and other lies… by Alissa Childers in my TBR stack. Just the title is excellent!
I am the same way when things blow up. I finally got the mama bear book but I’m guilty of not reading it yet because I like learning from men too. Motherhood is a great ministry in itself but I don’t like the labels on anything either. 😂
Hey, love these types of videos. Wish I had more time to read. Just wondering when you're going to take the leap and try a few fiction ( you mentioned that once) I rarely read fiction, more like hardly ever. But you must read Hind Feet in high places by Hannah Hurnard. It's the only fictional book I ever recommend.
I’m getting ready to read are-Enchanting the Text by Cheryl Bridges Johns. I saw her presentation a few days ago snd from it realized I think facts snd truth as synonymous snd strip the scripture down to facts facts facts and miss the beauty. I’m scientific in nature but curious what I’m missing. I’m curious of your thoughts on this book. I ordered Michael Card in hopes it helps me with this
I just saw your mail address was in McKinney! I’m local to that and was wondering if you do local things around there that we can be part of. I want to join your patron I’ve never felt led to join one until now!
Hi Faith. Greetings from a fellow book lover and reviewer. :-) Thanks for being upfront about the amount of time that it takes to read a book and prep for review. In my case, it's more of a reaction to what I'm reading. Why am I making such a statement? Last year, I reviewed my first book, in years. I was shocked at how popular it proved to be. So, I thought it would be a good idea to add reviewing books for a Christian audience to my channel. There's just one problem. If not for audio narration and Audible, I'd be struggling to read a book within a week. Yet, I'm shocked at the volume of books covered by booktubers. For me, it's discouraging. With you, I felt encouraged to not worry about my reading or listening speed. Just have fun reacting to what I'm reading. Yes, there are books that I don't have to read the whole book or can devour quickly. No, I'm not reading fiction. Keep up the good work, though.
Maybe you could look at the book and make a reasonable time frame to read it. Maybe start with a book or 2 a month depending on how much is in the book to digest. After all at the end of the day I would rather read 1 book and understand what I am reading than rush through a read and not understand a single thing that I read. I think it would make for a better review as well. You can always add books if you have time.
Yeah, as a childless Christian woman, I definitely wouldn't read Mama Bear Apologetics. I mean, would people read a book called Childless Bear Apologetics? Nope. I just want apologetics for people. And anyone reading this comment -- hey, if the book worked for you, I think that's great. I really do. I just don't like taking a topic that's for everyone and diverting it into very specific channels.
You have mentioned Westminster Short Catechism. I have looked on Amazon and I see 20 different books. Can you please recommend which one to use. Help 🙏 please
I’m reading you are more than you’ve been told by hosanna Wong and finished am I enough by grace valentine. Hosanna uses endnotes even with scripture and that’s the only thing bugging me as she’ll quote it often from voice or message and i recognize it but want to hear it in a regular translation. But they do keep the conversational vibe going
I guess my one question about Mama Bear Apologetics is: Is it Biblically sound? Like, I couldn't care less if you like it or not. Hate it, whatever. But, is it truth? Also looking forward to hearing your opinion on The Great De-Churching.
This is my question too…I started reading it and really struggled with one of the ways in which their approach to writing the book was described as it did not appear biblically sound at all…I stopped reading and haven’t been able to pick it up again…would love hear from someone who has actually read the book if it is biblically sound or not 🤔
Yes very biblically sound. Its really discussing the "isms" we see today and the historical background of each, how to think through them, recognize them in culture and questions to ask your kids of all ages. Definitely not a super deep dive but I felt equipped to know more about feminism, naturalism, etc.
I was writing a book about psalms 23 as my own story but my mother told me that I shouldn’t take that verse and turn it into a story because it goes against what GOD says in the bible. What should I do?
Your comment about not just being a mom but being first and foremost a follow of Christ blew my mind. I'm not a mom, I'm not even married, but a dream of mine is to be a mom, yet I feel I've already defined myself as a mother before being a follower of Christ in way. Yes I want to raise kids for the glory of God but but I feel I forgot that I need to train myself and enjoy my time with God as a single young lady. ❤❤❤❤ thank you, praise God and may He continue to bless you.
This really hits home for me because I feel I'm falling into idolatry about marriage and kids. But this reframing I think will do me well.....

I’m a baby Christian and so glad I recently found your channel. Loving your content and find it so helpful to strengthen my walk with Christ
I love these book reviews!!! Would love your review of Alisa’s other book “Live Your Truth (And Other Lies)”
Yay!!!! I was just thinking we need a new book recommendation video from Faith!! Thank you ❤
"The Gospel Comes with a House Key" by Rosaria Butterfield was one of the most convicting books I've read this year. Her first book Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert is also fantastic.
Just finished The Gospel Comes with a Housekey.” Amazing book!!!
I love Rosario Butterfield books. Her books have helped me through a very difficult time with my daughter. Praying for a miracle.
I ordered God of all things because of you. It is one of my favorite reads!!! It is gonna be one I come back to over and over for deeper study. I love your book reviews!!!

Thank you for sharing how you add your notes, I have notes that I need to add to my bible ASAP. 💜💜
I love your hair like that!
Mam Bear Apologetics, I liked the first chapter... For me it was very repetitive and world view focus VS practical ways to talk with your kids and combat the worldview.
Love and appreciate your honesty!!
I love these videos by you & other Christian YTers. Gives me books to read. Me love books. ❤
I love your honesty. Thank you.
Thank you! You fit in so many of the books I was excited to hear you talk about 💕
Thank you for reading Mama Bear Apologetics and saving me the trouble. I have found way to many Christian books are for baby Christian’s, and not enough are for wanting to go deeper. Sounds like it’s a beginner Christian book.
Here is another recommendation, Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age by Rosaria Butterfield
I love your videos. I always learn something new from you Faith. Thank you for sharing your videos with your subscribers. We pray for you to be blessed. We love watching your videos.

I’m reading Misled, too! 😄
Just finished reading “M is for Mama” by Abbie Halberstadt. Would love your take on it if you ever read it. I thought it was quite convicting but also gracious in its tone.
I enjoyed it but it was almost too gracious and timid. Us mommas need the hard truth and Biblical guidance.

Michael Card, a wonderful musician/storyteller most popular in the 1980's. Had no idea he is a writer as well.
Thank you for all the book reviews! Would love to hear your review on Jackie Hill Perry books next
I also struggled with Mama Bear Apologetics. It made me feel guilty for not being a mom's mom. But now that you mention it, I probably felt that way because I see myself as more than just a mom and homemaker. I'm so glad you brought it up.
So very glad that you chose Alisa’s book and enjoyed it. ❤

You should read “if the tomb is empty” and “anything is possible” by Joby Martin!!!!
My husband LOVES Michael Card :)
I hope you read Ray Comforts books.
I am the same way when things blow up. I finally got the mama bear book but I’m guilty of not reading it yet because I like learning from men too. Motherhood is a great ministry in itself but I don’t like the labels on anything either. 😂
I’d love for you to read Dr. Michael Heiser’s “Unseen Realm.”
Have you read Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard?
Hey, love these types of videos. Wish I had more time to read. Just wondering when you're going to take the leap and try a few fiction ( you mentioned that once) I rarely read fiction, more like hardly ever. But you must read Hind Feet in high places by Hannah Hurnard. It's the only fictional book I ever recommend.
Have you read “End of the Spear”? It’s old, but so good.
Now I don’t feel guilty about not finishing Mama Bear! It’s still on my bookshelf too just in case.
Ooh girl I think you would Lovee this book (the finished work of christ) by wendy j clark .. chefs kiss 💋..
You should go to a half price books. They are full of Christian living books!
Have you read Nancy Percy, Love Thy Body. That would be my recommendation.
Mama Bear apologetics is. Amazing. Check out all talking to your kids about God by Natasha Crain
Where can I buy that amazing sweatshirt?
I'd be interested in your views on Systematic Theology and also on the New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
"I don't vibe with the main stream mamas. I like to read men." Same, girl, same....
Please review Emotionally Healthy Discipleship by Peter Scazzero . Appreciate you and your heart for the Lord!
What highlighters do you use please? Gonna order and read some of those books you reviewed.
Mr pen Bible highlighters!
@@HowtoFaithALife Thank you 😊
You have mentioned Westminster Short Catechism. I have looked on Amazon and I see 20 different books. Can you please recommend which one to use. Help 🙏 please
You don’t have to buy it! It’s free online!
Oh even better. Thank you Faith, I will check it out. ❤️
The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee ❤
You should listen to some of Michael Card's music.
You should read “hybrid church” by my pastor James E White, I think it would complement the great unchurching you mentioned
Have you read “Rethinking Sexuality” by Dr Juli Slattery?
