Hi faith, can you recommend a good interleaved KJV Bible? Not NKJV, the original KJV, seems to be by far the hardest translation to find in interleaved. I found one online, but it looks like the pages are regular Bible levels of thin. Thank you.

I’m only a minute in but I see it as a blessing those books sections are next to each other. As an ex newager, you never know if someone who went into the book store looking at the secular “witchcraft” books might be intrigued to buy a bible journal.

My old Pastor always said "Don't take my word for it, study it for yourself, make sure I'm correct". And your right it can be paralyzing trying to pick out a book by someone you don't recognize and worry that their theology will lead you the wrong way. Thank-you for your tips on choosing a good book/author. Now I want to go to half price books this weekend and see what gems I can find.

For all of the Mormons, or Latter Day Saints who are offended - I recommend the UA-cam channel called Hello Saints, where an evangelical Pastor compares your teachings with what Christians believe, what the bible says.

There are many of you on UA-cam and many young people here on youtube who have come out of the new age and cults etc. rescued by Jesus and their love and knowledge of the Word is stunning. Thank you, honey for taking the time out of your busy family life to impart so much good stuff to us! You are new to me, and I will pray for you all. Tfs Your sis in Christ, Kathy😍

Joe: "I'd like to read YOU up and down!!" 😳🤭 ... right on!!
Thanks for this, Faith! I've really begun to pray for discernment over the past several months because of YT mostly. I feel good about the Bible study materials I've gotten, many of them by your recommendation, but I had been going in hook, line, and sinker for pretty much anyone I would see on YT, but a few friends of mine caught me and called me on it, and they were absolutely right. Heads up, everyone!
Have a blessed weekend! Prayers, as always, for you and the fam. Hugs from the southern California desert, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗

Years ago, after my 2 yr walk away from the Lord due to grief, I’ve removed myself from other people’s ideas of Scripture. God has had me on a journey to remove all the focus off of what other people think and to focus on asking the Holy Spirit to help me understand. It’s been challenging as I’m not the most knowledgeable, however I’ve enjoyed the process of learning the Word. Thank God He meets us where we are at. Caveat, I did study to be a pastor, so I’m not ignorant, I just know there is soooo much I don’t know.
I personally would enjoy reading books on Christian Living. I use to have favorites! I’m a reader and was saved for 2 years before actually going to a church. I was saved through Christian Fiction book! Lori Wick was the author. I read 3 of her books back to back sobbing the whole time and then began my journey by praying a prayer of salvation with a character in the book. After that, I read the Word voraciously as well as Christian Fiction that pointed me toward the Lord and taught me how to live as a Christian. I read Lori Wick, Elisabeth George(Christian Living), Becky Johnson, as well as many others. Reading Christian Fiction taught me how to act in my daily life. I learned submission to my husband and other valuable actions and thoughts through the reading of Christian Fiction and Christian Living. Theology wise, I didn’t really understand anything, so I didn’t focus on that I focused on learning how to apply, how to pray, how to behave and forgive through Christian Fiction. I’ve been a Christian for almost 3 decades, not long, and I still enjoy a good story. I love to write as well, so I’m partial to reading fiction. I struggle with finding sound writings from a variety of authors these days. They may be spot on in a few sermons, but I pick up a book and they’ve written about this or that and they’ve fit Scripture around the concept they are trying to help with and not the other way around. Sometimes we get caught up in wanting to learn from someone else, however we have the Greatest Teacher in the Holy Spirit!
When I first began my pastor classes, our denomination didn’t require seminary school, my pastor’s first assignment. Get a Bible that had no commentary. Read only that Bible in our studies and ask the Holy Spirit to give us understanding. I chose the NKJV as the KJV was too difficult for me. I’d get distracted with how pretty it sounded and not focus on the content. I know probably a stupid reason, but…. Keeping myself focused was the most important part for me. My Bible had zero commentary, no cross-references. I had to find my own. That was interesting and fun! Really opened my eyes to how the Lord worked with me and how I think and give me what I needed. Amazing! Today, I have several translations, a few with commentaries that are interesting, most without and I enjoy studying.
Thank you for this channel and the few videos I’ve watched as I found myself becoming less focused on the Word and more focused on me lately. Battling illness etc and I can tend to go inward. I’m using some of your Bible Journaling to teach my kids for their homeschool. They are enjoying it. I appreciate this video because I’ve been nostalgic for Christian Living books. I must say, however the most impactful books I’ve ever read besides the obvious are a few series by the author Vikki Kestell. Beginning with her pioneer books that through the series go to 1980’s. It takes you on this journey of hardship and faith and one of the characters, the main character in a few of them is the mother, the first character and she writes in her journal with whole written out scriptures and teaches Bible study to other characters, the words of wisdom on her lips is amazing and it truly changed how I view my own walk with the Lord. In Vikki Kestell’s books, you actually get to “hear” the whole sermon, the whole Bible Study, the whole of Scripture that she’s referencing and it’s not skippable. You must read it because it’s integral to the story. It’s brilliantly written and challenging in that it causes me to apply the Word in every breath I take and choice I make. I would love to be able to write like this!
All that to say, don’t discount ALL of Christian Fiction! Most are fluff, however there are those that are just walk changing! I think its the Scripture use and how profound and fundamental it is to the stories as well as the application.
I write Christian Fiction(not published). I enjoy it! I’m considering a devotional in the form of a Christian Fiction.
I think I like to read Christian Fiction over Christian Living usually it’s because theology and doctrinal issues don’t play a huge role and I don’t like books that teach falsely because they are trying to fix something and taking Scripture out of context because it “fits.” Ugh! I guess I’m wary of other’s interpretations of Scripture because I know God corrects me when I’ve “reasoned” a Scripture and He directs me to other Scriptures that show me my interpretation is wrong.
Unfortunately, isn’t it the case that we read through the book, it sounds great, then you’ll read a trusted source that says why that book and its premise is wrong because of its use of this Scripture or that. I’ve been burned way too many times with that.
Please give a list of books and authors you do recommend as that would be helpful! I have to travel a long way to buy books in a book store. I usually try them out from the Library first, but it’s difficult sometimes.
For books on Eschatology, I like Tom Hughes with Hope for our Times. He has on several guests that have a variety of backgrounds, however I’ve found them sound in their teachings, so far. We all are fallible though. I don’t agree with a couple that he has on, however some I listen to for the historical teachings as I find they are spot on in many interviews etc. I have not read any of their books. I don’t have that much time right now with homeschooling etc.

Hi Faith, you demonstrate genuine scholarship in this video. You reference characteristics of research, of knowledge about a variety of authors, the explicit purpose of each of the commentaries and books you are selecting, and ways to avoid being hoodwinked by ideas that are not theologically sound. You did such a fine job on this video.

Love using the Isaiah commentaries from Young! My school library does sales sometimes of older books or donated books, where paper back books are 50 cents and 1$ hardback books, so I tend to do my commentary shopping that time of year 😅. I got the entire set for Isaiah for 3 dollars, and it was helpful for my Isaiah study.

Funny story about God of All Things….of course after your review I ordered it immediately. I had a dr’s appointment and took the book with me to read while waiting. I was checking out some new glasses and laid the book on the counter next to me. One of the sweet gals that works there asked me if it was a cook book! We had a good chuckle, I shared the AMAZING high points of the book, she took a photo of it and I’m sure is devouring it today. I dare say that this book should automatically be included with the purchase of every bible!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do and share with us. Psalm 91…..Beverly

I had to go to Abe Books online today, where I found several really good copies of books you recommended, thank you. Now for a little laugh for the day; prior to becoming reborn as a true Christian, I was in the Mormon church - yes I know, that's quite a jump and a true Gift from God. I binged the "Left Behind" series (2X!) and honestly just thought it was great. Now, having become a reborn true Christian, follower of Christ and in my Gospel daily (I now have about 20 Bibles, God knew I was hungry :) I have found the truth about so many things I honestly didn't know before. I have really learned a lot from you, Faith, thank you so much. I am learning to honestly read and understand the Gospel as though I had never read it before. It has changed my life.

You can tell it's a secular bookstore because if they had real Christians working there (dare I say that?) they would have someone (hopefully) who could separate the sheep from the goats, so to speak. Sometimes I use the publisher to determine whether a book is worth my time. Tynedale, Zondervan, IVP, pubs like that I know are not going to publish stuff that's not in line with the Word.

Our Christian bookstore went out of business more than 10 years ago sadly. Amazon is good with multiple reviews and many used titles. Many on Kindle. If you get something you really don't like, their return policy is excellent. Plus there are so many free to borrow titles in the internet archives. You borrow an hour at a time and only return if someone else wants it. I also never attempt to read any end times books. I have enough to focus on here and now. Love the channel.

I love the new/used book store near my house. It's part of a family, locally owned chain, so I love supporting them. They have a large section on religious literature, and I often see quite a few of the books my father has in his library. He was an ordained minister, once upon a time, and has a lot of great books from his days in seminary and others he collected through the years. I snatch them up when I can.
I've found Bibles at this same store that are brand new, still in the boxes for amazing prices.
It's a very peaceful place to be, as well, so I just love slowly browsing the shelves.

I don't think you Americans realised how blessed you are to have all these Christian resources. Here in New Zealand i don't know of any shops that sell commentaries apart from maybe one who might stock a 2nd hand set or two. We have a handful of Small Christian bookshops but they are usually top heavy with fiction. We normally mail order from Usa. I like how you show discernment looking at publishers etc.

"I'd like to read you up and down" 😂😂😂 as a massive reader, this is the greatest pick up line ever. I'm jealous of the US for the availability of christian resources. In 10 years of living in my city, I've only ever found 1 book that was a solid one. Its also very rare to find an actual christian bookstore. Everything is online and you can't check them out one site.

Thank you Faith, and Joe, for providing tips and details for selecting resources that could benefit our walk with Jesus. I think we even need to be careful about what we select from Christian book stores, in store and online, as they may carry resources and/or reading material that may be the best for us.

Hi! I new to your channel. Your videos popped up on my feed about 3 weeks ago. First, thank you so much for your realness! So refreshing! Second, I work in the library at a public school. Love that you have mentioned using document repair tape before. Well, there is a way to protect your paperbacks for long term use. It's basically like really thick clear contact paper. It's a sticky laminate that you put on the paperback books to extend their life with multi use. We purchase it from a library resource company called Demco. The laminate is CircExtender. And it comes in rolls in different thicknesses. But you can order it from different places like Amazon. Just make sure it is self adhesive and not the laminate rolls for laminating machines. We don't have a lot of paperbacks in the library, but the few we do have last a long time with this stuff. Just make sure you cut it to have enough to wrap around the edges of the cover to stop the edges from fraying. Then i use the tape like your document tape to secure the edges of the laminate on the inside of the front and back covers. Just for added protection. Students like to pick at the tape. And with just your family using those paperback commentaries, they will last you a lifetime.

This video was so helpful! I've been watching your channel now for weeks and I've learned so much from you about resources, and picking out the good from the bad.
I agree that reading opposing views is so important. And no matter what we read or whom we listen to, we should do it with discernment from the Holy Spirit and weigh it out with Scripture, discerning truth from lies.
There is this thing called gleaning that I learned about looong ago from the book of Ruth. Ruth and Naomi gleaned the fields, picking up whatever wheat was leftover after the harvest. And looong ago I saw the connection between that age-old custom of gleaning and how it relates to gleaning truth, often from the most unlikely people. And since I also knew that God spoke to Balaam through a donkey, I knew God could speak to me, even through an unbeliever, and even from a "secular" song, or a book written by a lost person. And God has spoken to me from unlikely people. So I glean the truth from wherever or whomever I can find it. And metaphorically speaking, I throw the rest of it in the proverbial trashcan.
Thank you again for spending time teaching others, including myself, about how to dig deeper into the instruction manual for life.

I'm not Christian but I study the bible in my spare time and it's super interesting to see that we struggle with the same things when buying resources! You always have to check authors, broad theology, and the denomination (or sometimes whether or not it's from a cult).

Appreciate your sidebar about discernment. On that topic, I would encourage people to read from people you may disagree with as well. If something stands out as weird, look into it more to find out why? Maybe you were actually wrong. Do that for the people you trust as well... same with multiple bible translations.
