Dear Faith. I grew up as a “Christian” but I consider myself a baby Christian as I have only in the last year really dug into the Bible and consciously studied the word having read the Bible front to back for the first time this last year at age 37. I don’t have any memory of ever hearing terms like complementarian and egalitarian or Calvinism vs Arminianism before discovering your channel. I never heard of the 5 solas or many other things that I have learnt about since watching your videos. I haven’t “dug deep” before finding your channel. You have inspired me greatly to learn more and truly get to know God’s word and who He really is, His character and about His immense love for us. I am so grateful to have you as a source of truth and I see you more as a friend/sister in Christ as a “preacher”. You just have a gift for delivering a message and encouraging others to learn. I grew up in the (Nederduitse Gereformeerde kerk) is an Afrikaans church and I don’t know nearly as much from my years there as I have learnt through watching your videos. I have printed your cliff notes and stuck them in my bible and I am hoping to join your Bible boot camp soon. Some of us learn better from sitting in a church listening to a sermon and some like me learn better through platforms like you that feels more intimate and direct. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos. It is highly appreciated by women like me. Keep going. Much ❤️

@@anestrydom871 I was from the Nederduits Hervormde kerk... I also read a lot of christian books but after years only found out that it was peoples opinions not really God's word. The only book to read and study is the Bible. I read different versions of Bibles and then I did a comparison between them and found lots of scriptures left out and changed. The only true bible I found is the King James 1611 version. It is the best reference bible against the other modern versions. I found a pastor online that is of great help Robert Breaker to explain the word of God better the biblical way. You are free to try it. Hope this will help you and get a better biblical inside.

As a former complementarian, and speaking as a man, I can’t emphasize enough that what you are doing is valuable and important. It’s so easy for us to put ourselves in doctrinal boxes that sort of come as a “package deal,” without questioning some of the things within that package. People also have knee-jerk reactions to different perspectives, because some of the people that hold those perspectives also believe strange things from the package they were given. We need to stop, rewind, go back to sound hermeneutical principles, and approach each text with a willingness to both be challenged and transformed in our thinking. You are not only modeling that, but also directing people to resources that are helpful for their own journey. I recently found your channel as I was also exploring this topic in depth, and I plan to stick around.
Also, I am a former Calvinist so I love that you delve into that world as well! For sound Arminian scholarship, check out William Lane Craig’s Divine Foreknowledge and Human Freedom.
And keep up the good work!

I'm a theologically conservative egalitarian Christian and I am so impressed that you have been seriously studying the subject, even if it turns out that you end up disagreeing. I think the most frustrating thing for bible-based egalitarians is the assumption that if we don't agree with complementarians is that we are all liberals who don't take scripture seriously and authoritatively when it is not at all true. But like you, I have dealt with people who are extremely vitriolic when it comes to this subject and it doesn't matter how many scripture verses or well thought-out arguments one might make with such people. They will just accuse you of being a rebellious Jezebel and put you in the same category with murderers, prostitutes, adulterers, fornicators, etc. as if God never once said a single positive thing about women anywhere in scripture. It would be nice to at least have it recognized that there might, just might, be different ways of viewing some of these scripture passages in question without bad faith assumptions!
I agree that it was probably a mistake for that author to use feminism to support egalitarianism, especially as feminism is such a loaded word and everyone seems to use it differently. I'd always thought of feminism as being "equal rights" like being able to vote and hold property and the like and couldn't comprehend why so many people, especially women, were against it. Only to later find out that third wave (or is it fourth wave now?) feminism has very little or nothing to do with such things and may not really have anything to do with women at all, unless the "woman" in question is actually a man. But that's another rabbit hole!
    Keep on keeping on. :)

Thank you so much for explaining what I am feeling about feminism but could never put it into words. I started out thinking it was a good thing and now really dislike anything connected to feminism. I feel like I wish it had never started, but that's because of what it morphed into. I would be offended to ever be considered a feminist.

I’m reading God of All Things that you recommended. I really like it. Definitely going to get Knowing Sin. Thank you for being open and honest about a struggle with understanding what a Women’s role in teaching looks like. I was indoctrinated with no women can teach or lead men too , along with other “doctrines” that the more I look at may not be what I was told/taught. I still believe they shouldn’t be behind the pulpit leading church but I realize I haven’t really studied the whole thing deeply for myself. I appreciate your willingness to open up and be real about it. It does help us that also have questions. I believe the Lord and Holy Spirit will give us the right direction and wisdom to understand what we need to do in these situations. Don’t be out off by the haters, which as Christians they shouldn’t be that anyways. Love your ministry!

I don’t know about the books. The videos that you put up about women in ministry have been extremely helpful to me. Your being vulnerable in those videos was monumental to me. It’s when we get desperate before Him that we start to see the true inward change that only the Holy Spirit brings. I have had the biggest struggle over this issue for over 35 years. I’ve been back and forth, and held fast to both sides at different times. My one absolute conclusion is that “I Don’t Know!” Perhaps I never really will and I’m ok with that. But I am totally interested in seeing where you end up. It surely makes a bigger difference in your life than it could mine. To be quite frank with you, it’s your pure honesty that has impacted me so much. I don’t see that often/ever. I do feel to point out that wisdom in the book of proverbs is depicted in feminine form. Just a thought.

Hopefully through centering myself in God and faithing my life I will find what is really important again, and be able to share his message with others, which is the goal. lol. A book that I really enjoyed that I actually recommended to my sister and a few of my friends was "How (Not) to Read the Bible" by Dan Kimball. He says at the beginning of the book that he knew a few people who decided to stop being Christians because they were actually reading their Bibles in its entirety and were finding things that they were having a hard time understanding, so he wrote the book to help people understand some of the more difficult topics of the Bible.

Hi Faith! I enjoyed your reviews but I was saddened when you asked "When do I stop teaching my boys?" I think the role of mother is unique from any ministry role a woman might have in the church. My son is now 23 and I still teach him but the nature of that teaching has changed for us. Up to about age 13 I was actively teaching him in order to convey to him my beliefs, values and facts about the world. Once he became a teen my teaching style changed to one of guiding him in how to use what I had taught him to make decisions about his life path. Our conversations now usually consist of him telling me about something he's thinking about doing and I ask thoughtful questions designed to get him to think through actions and potential consequences both positive and negative. In this way, his decisions are well considered and mostly in line with his chosen path. As a mother, I never stop teaching. I believe one of a mother's primary God given roles is to teach our children to be thoughtful, kind and faith-filled adults who will strive to bring goodness to whatever piece of the world God places them in.

I have dealt with guilt and shame most of my adult life. Recently I read a book by Green Daniel PH.D, Lawrenz Mel PH.D. Overcoming Guilt and Shame. This was a less heady book and more of a “How to” book. Great read about 200 pages and really drove the point that guilt is a status of wrong doing and shame is an emotion that we have a roll, partially, to play in. Here is a quote from the book.
“We may hold ourselves to unrealistic expectations, demanding perfection. Or, we may project our shame onto others, inaccurately believing they have the same critical thoughts about us that we have about ourselves” (p 83).

I got nerdy excited when you said Joe was reading Lord of the Rings lol. They are probably my #1 favorite books on the planet outside the bible. So good, C.S Lewis is also on the top of my list not only for Chronicles of Narnia but also his theology writings as well.

I'd be a bit surprised if she'd read/recommend John Bevere but I could be wrong. He's known to have some problematic theology -- a mix of NAR, Word of Faith, prosperity gospel, etc.

Yay. Another video by Faith. Me happy. And more books I can add to my list. Me even more happy. Oh & I can relate to the whole "carrying shame" thing. Totally feel you on that. It may not be for the same reasons, but I feel like the end result is the same. Lots of love & hugs, hun. (Hugs Faith) Oh & I'm a dude & don't mind learning from women. Otherwise I wouldn't click on your videos. I want knowledge & don't care where it comes from. And don't listen to the jerks on the internet. I know that's a heck of a lot easier said than done, but if you listen to them, they win. (Hugs Faith again) ☺☺☺❤❤❤

    7:08
Eve did NOT eat an apple.
That's one of those things that we were taught in Sunday School, but the Bible never says that.
Eve ate the fruit. It was the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. I'm not sure exactly what that fruit looked like, but I'm sure it WASN'T an apple.

Your read of Ehrman and Wallace together reminded me of another book-and-response-book pair (2014): Ehrman's "How Jesus Became God" and Bird et al.'s "How God Became Jesus." Michael Bird (an Australian Anglican theologian) served as editor working with Craig Evans, Simon Gathercole, Charles Hill, and Chris Tilling to fill out a *lot* of detailed material. They're all excellent scholars who also wrote in a way that communicates to the non-scholar reader.

I'm looking forward to reading Knowing Sin by Mark Jones as well. Wallace's Greek grammar is legendary, so cool you got to cross paths with him! My recommendations are if you haven't read books by Jerry Bridges I'd recommend either the Pursuit of Holiness or the Discipline of Grace. If you've read those, maybe Trueman's Strange New World if you're into thinking about "the culture" and tracing the history of the West.

PS: I’m a soft complimentarian. I’m constantly frustrated by the rhetoric from both sides. It seems like they’re both just talking past one another.

I'm also a woman in ministry, currently attending seminary. I have women in my family who have been clergy for much longer than I have. I understand the negative reactions that can bring, but we need to follow God's leading. I read a lot of excellent, deep books in my studies, but I'm currently re-reading a book on Jesus' life that I recommend. It's a long book written by a woman in ministry: The Desire of Ages, by Ellen White.

Hey Faith, I hope you are doing well and taking care 🤗 I have two books to recommend for you.
The first one is Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry. In my honest opinion, this book has shifted my perspective around this very delicate topic, and all of it being done full of grace and truth. It's more testimonial but in every situation she brings it back to the Scriptures.
The second one is Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund. This one has palyed a big role on my walk, specially as new believer. I hope you enjoyed!
